Darren Aronofsky follows up his divisive Oscar-winner, The Whale, with a throwback to 90s capers. Caught Stealing is an After Hours pastiche without any ego and a studio potboiler aimed right down the middle of the road, it just happens to star one of the most charismatic casts assembled in 2025. Jeff and Derek discuss the star power of Austin Butler, the few surprises the film has in store, and this strange departure from Aronofsky's typical auteurism. Tune in!

Every once in a while, something extraordinary happens in rock'n'roll…I hate the use of the cliché of “a perfect storm,” but that's precisely what I'm talking about…a bunch of things involving culture, politics, demographics, economics and technology all collide and mix in just the right way for something totally new and unexpected to be created… Lemme give you some examples…Elvis came along in the 1950s just as millions of post-war kids—these new constructs that were now called “teenagers”—began gravitating to new radio stations that played music derived from a mix of the blues, country and R&B… This music greatly annoyed their parents, something that made it dangerous and forbidden… In 1964, the Beatles appeared on the Ed Sullivan show with a fresh, new sound that helped drag America out of the funk that followed the assassination of JFK…as far as rock is concerned, the 60s really began that February night in 1964… Let's try something more current…you might remember the appearance of the music video in the early 80s transformed the industry…. or the time you heard “smells like teen spirit” for the first time and immediately you somehow knew that whatever came next in the 90s would be very, very different… And hip hop? don't get me started…there are people—academics! —who will argue that the appearance of hip hop in popular culture was an even bigger deal that the Beatles… There's one other event that we need to include on this list: the rise of punk rock in the mid-70s…as it was happening, it was no big deal…it was an aberration, a niche thing that indulged weirdos and misfits… “It's just noise,” said the rock purists. “Ignore it and it'll go away.” But it didn't…in fact, we're still talking about punk…and punk became more than just a form of music… it became a way of thinking and acting and creating and presenting…it's music, film, visual art, literature, dance, politics… it altered much of western thought…the punk aesthetic—that “screw you, I'm gonna do it anyway” ethos—can be found virtually everywhere in society today… But what led to this? What were the factors that led to the rise of this music? And how did it appear worldwide at virtually the same time in an era long, long before the internet? Great questions…. let's see if we can find the answer to the question: “Why did punk happen at all?” Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Top Stories for September 9th Publish Date: September 9th PRE-ROLL: From The BG AD Group Studio, Welcome to the Gwinnett Daily Post Podcast. Today is Tuesday, September 9th and Happy Birthday to Ottis Redding I’m Peyton Spurlock and here are your top stories presented by KIA Mall of Georgia Stone Mountain Park's Pumpkin Festival returns with all-new glow-in-the-dark attractions Gwinnett Democrats blast federal, state leaders over raid at Hyundai-LG plant Buford Dam Road temporarily closing near Lake Lanier on Sept. 11 All of this and more is coming up on the Gwinnett Daily Post podcast, and if you are looking for community news, we encourage you to listen and subscribe! Break 1: Kia MOG STORY 1: Stone Mountain Park's Pumpkin Festival returns with all-new glow-in-the-dark attractions Stone Mountain Park is about to feel like a storybook come to life. Starting Sept. 13, the Pumpkin Festival: Play by Day, Glow by Night is back—and it’s bigger, brighter, and, honestly, a little more magical this year. At night, the park transforms. Picture this: Cinderella floating through the air in a sparkling gown, lighting up a massive pumpkin tree. Then there’s the glow-in-the-dark pumpkin parade—floats, fairy tale characters, and a dance party you can’t help but join. Oh, and the grand finale? The World’s Largest Pumpkin Drone & Light Show, complete with fireworks. By day, it’s all about family fun—rides, glowing pumpkins, and even mini-golf. This runs through Nov. 2. STORY 2: Gwinnett Democrats blast federal, state leaders over raid at Hyundai-LG plant Gwinnett County leaders didn’t hold back Friday, slamming federal and state officials over a massive immigration raid at the Hyundai-LG plant in Bryan County. Nearly 475 workers—many South Korean nationals—were arrested, sparking outrage in Georgia’s largest Korean-American community. Federal agents called it a criminal investigation, not an immigration raid, but the fallout is undeniable. STORY 3: Buford Dam Road temporarily closing near Lake Lanier on Sept. 11 Heads up, drivers—Buford Dam Road near Lake Lanier’s southern end is shutting down for a day. On Sept. 11, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will close the road to patch potholes, fix guardrails, and handle some tree work. If you’re in the area, plan to detour via State Route 20. Oh, and heads up—parks along the road, like Buford Dam Park and West Bank Park, will also be closed. It’s just one day, but still, maybe pack a little extra patience. We have opportunities for sponsors to get great engagement on these shows. Call 770.874.3200 for more info. We’ll be right back Break 2: GWINNET FAIR STORY 4: Many Georgia teachers say they are overworked, underpaid and exposed to violence Georgia’s teachers are burned out. Overworked, underpaid, and dealing with everything from disruptive classrooms to outright violence, many are questioning how much longer they can stay. A new survey from the Professional Association of Georgia Educators (PAGE) paints a grim picture: two-thirds of educators feel exhausted, and a quarter report severe teacher shortages at their schools. Even worse? 8% say they’ve been physically assaulted by students—double that for special education staff. Low pay, second jobs, and unpaid college debt only add to the stress. Something’s gotta give. STORY 5: Buford Corn Maze opens Saturday Fall’s not officially here yet, but the Buford Corn Maze is already gearing up for its 17th season of autumn fun—and honestly, who’s complaining? The Maze started Saturday, the 32-acre farm on Bennett Road is bringing back all the classics: the corn maze (of course), pumpkin patch, hayrides, pony rides, and the Kid’s Corner. Oh, and don’t forget the Haunted Forest—it opens Sept. 26 with this year’s theme, “Into the Twisted Hollow.” Spooky, right? New this year? Expanded animal encounters, carnival games, and a bigger kids’ play area. Tickets? Online or at the gate. STORY 6: ART BEAT: Lionheart Theatre returns all-female cast production of 'Radio T.B.S. Trailer Park Broadcasting Scandals' “Radio T.B.S.” is a fan favorite, so of course it’s part of Lionheart’s 25th Anniversary Season. Running Sept. 12–28, this all-female comedy stars longtime anchors Debbie McLaughlin and Tanya Gilmer, who’ve been with the show since its first run. Set in the Luna Del Mar Manufactured Home Oasis (aka “The Penicillin Capital of Central Florida”), the play follows radio hosts Vesta Poteet and Dixie Mandrell as they dish on everything from the Miss Manatee Contest to a “Jesus and Elvis” tribute. Oh, and those “Gone with the Wind” collector plates? Scarlett O’Hara looks suspiciously like Ernest Borgnine. Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m., with matinees on Sundays and Sept. 27. Tickets are $18 for adults, $16 for seniors, students, and military. Complimentary desserts at intermission—yes, really. Get tickets at lionhearttheatre.org or call 404-919-4022. But hurry—this one sells out fast. STORY 7: Suwanee wants tax rate to stay the same as past 13 years Suwanee residents, get ready to possibly see a familiar number on your property tax bill this fall. The City Council just voted to tentatively keep the millage rate at 4.93 mills—the same rate it’s been for 13 years. But here’s the catch: it’s slightly above the rollback rate, meaning a 3.88% tax increase is coming your way. Why? The city’s $20.8 million budget for FY 2026, which kicked off July 1, needs funding. It’s 7.8% bigger than last year’s and includes five new full-time positions, $650,000 for landscaping, and $606,000 for capital projects. Public hearings? Sept. 11 and Sept. 23. We’ll have closing comments after this. Break 4: Ingles Markets Signoff – Thanks again for hanging out with us on today’s Gwinnett Daily Post Podcast. Bec and Gurdip this week are setting themselves up for some fiery listener emails with their hottest takes yet as they pose the question: what are the biggest Elvis hits that they feel have become overrated?! (Or maybe just overexposed?) For Song of the Week, it's an Elvis movie double feature as Gurdip sets his course and picks "Go East, Young Man" from 1965's "Harum Scarum" while Bec decides to head out to the World's Fair and selects the cutesy "How Would You Like to Be?" Also discussed are last-minute teases by Baz Luhrmann that dropped just ahead of EPiC's Toronto premiere , including a new mash-up! This episode was recorded before the Toronto premiere and reviews began to release - check back for our reactions to all the excitement soon!

On October 2, 1993, 37-year-old Dana MacKay and 49-year-old Mary Huffman were found murdered inside their Las Vegas home. The couple had been shot at close range, likely just after returning home from grocery shopping. The only thing missing from the house was a manila folder filled with important documents. The Vegas community was shocked by the double homicide. The couple was well-known around town: Dana was America's first Elvis impersonator, and Mary had once been crowned Mrs. Nevada. It was hard to believe they'd been murdered in their home, known as Mini Graceland. But despite the initial attention their case received, it quickly went cold. More than thirty years later, their murders are still unsolved and the question remains: who killed Dana and Mary? 37-year-old Dana MacKay and 49-year-old Mary Huffman were found murdered inside their Las Vegas home, known as Mini Graceland, on October 2, 1993. They had been shot several times at close range, likely just after returning home from grocery shopping on September 30. While one room appeared ransacked, cash and jewelry were left behind. Arkansas is set to welcome $12 billion in new data centers that will require significant electricity, while recent legislation has made it nearly impossible to develop new wind farms. The state will have to rely on importing power and building natural gas plants, leading to higher costs for ratepayers. And subscribe to Rosemary Barnes' YouTube channel here. Have a question we can answer on the show? Email us! Allen Hall: Let me tell you a little story about wind energy in the state of Arkansas. But first, let me pick you a picture of the natural state. Arkansas sits right in the heart of America. This is the land that gave us President Bill Clinton and the retail giant Walmart. It's the home to the rugged Ozark mountains and the fertile Mississippi River Delta, where folks still wave from the front porches. And Sunday dinner means the whole family surround the table. Arkansas has always been a place where old traditions meet new opportunities. Rice fields stretch across the eastern flatlands. Timber companies harvest the dense forest. The Buffalo River runs wild and free. And now. Wind energy companies are eyeing those wide open spaces and [00:01:00] mountain ridges. But here's where our story gets interesting. The natural state is about to welcome $12 billion in new data centers. That's Google building a $10 billion facility in West Memphis, just across the river from where Elvis lived. Two more billion dollars centers go up in Little Rock and Conway near the center of the state. These data centers will demand massive amounts of electricity. How much Arkansas Electric Cooperative Corporation says they've got requests for 4,000 megawatts of new load. That's more power than the entire system has built in 80 years. And the data center companies want it in just three or four years. And here's an interesting turn of events. Arkansas just made it nearly impossible to build wind farms that could power these data centers cheaply. And cleanly. Senate Bill 4 37 passed by just one vote in the Arkansas [00:02:00] Senate 18 4 14 against, they called it the Arkansas Wind Energy Development Act, but don't let the name fool you. This 20 page regulatory monster is designed to kill wind development. The bail requires wind turbines to be set back three and a half times their height from property lines. That's up to a quarter mile it. Bans turbines within one mile of schools, hospitals, churches, and city limits. It demands extensive environmental studies and public hearings. Wind companies warned this would kill future development. Wire, Hauser the Timber Giant with 1.2 million acres in Arkansas said the rule would limit their ability to host wind projects to zero acres. Zero. Representative Jack Leman, a Republican from Jonesboro, Arkansas, summed it up on the house floor, quote, if wind is a bad idea, it will fail on its own. It's not our job to kill an [00:03:00] industry, unquote, but they killed it anyway. Six Arkansas counties have already banned wind development. Carroll County, Boone, Madison, Newton Crawford, and Criton Counties have all said no to commercial wind projects. The current projects get a pass. The Crossover Wind Project in Cross County and the Nimbus Project in Carroll County. Were already under development by April 9th of this year, so they're exempt from the new rules. Crossover wind will be Arkansas's first operational wind farm, 135 megawatts, 32 turbines enough to power 50,000 homes. It's going online next summer in the flat farmland of Eastern Arkansas. Nimbus is more controversial. 180 megawatts. Plan for the Ozark Mountains in Carroll County near the state line with Missouri...

Imagine marrying someone who turns the ceremony into a full-blown Vegas residency. This bride grabbed the mic, stormed down the aisle, and belted out a ballad like she was headlining the Coliseum – while her new husband stood there in sneakers, clinging to his phone like a hostage. Elvis lit up his lighter, the room looked like a conference centre, and the whole thing was so unhinged… we couldn’t look away.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

get the full episode at patreon.com/extended_clip On today's podcast, we talked about Todd Solondz's Storytelling. Picking up where Happiness left off with its provocative humor, deadbeat tone, and exploration of taboos, its, the bifurcated narrative splits the runtime into “fiction and nonfiction,” or more accurately, literature and cinema. The material gets pretty dark, per usual for Solondz, so in an effort to bring a little levity to the table, I unwrapped a pack of Elvis trading cards on air.

John Heath joins Justin as they get any final thoughts we've had off their chests after having sat with Peter Guralnick's "The Colonel & The King" a bit longer, watching other fans' reactions start to stream in over the last month or so. Consider this a follow-up to both the TCBCast and EAP Society reviews, as well as John's excellent Atomic Wax breakdown (if you hadn't seen it - here's the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jdxN0xeTT1o) The guys also take a look at a number of things Peter has stated in public interviews surrounding the book's release and whether they stack up with what he writes in the book or go further. For Song of the Week, John's got HIS mojo working as he walks us through the deep Memphis lore around "Got My Mojo Working" - the 1970 warm-up jam on an old blues number (perhaps most famously known from Muddy Waters but previously done by Ann Cole) which Elvis turned into a medley with Priscilla Bowman & Jay McShann's R&B hit "Hands Off." Elvis's version surfaced with added overdubs on the Love Letters from Elvis album in '71 and the unedited version on "From Elvis in Nashville" remains a rocking treat. Justin's Song of the Week is the underrated "Anyone (Could Fall in Love With You), written for inclusion in "Kissin' Cousins" but removed from the production - yet still left on the soundtrack album. However, its songwriters' most famous non-Elvis hit from the 1940s - which Elvis almost certainly knew - might inadvertently give us a small insight into Elvis's gentle, one might say even "Spot-y," vocal approach. If you enjoy TCBCast, please consider supporting us with a donation at Patreon.com/TCBCast. Darren Aronofky's latest film "Caught Stealing" starring Austin Butler and Zoe Kravitz is now in theaters. What makes this so unique from Aronofky's previous films? Tune in now to hear it all...
Today on part two the Rarified Heir Podcast, we continue our conversation with Sharyn Felder, daughter of the late, great songwriter Doc Pomus and trust us, this episode is as jam packed and fun-filled as part one from last week. Last week we spoke to Sharyn on the release day of a new box set of her father's music, You Can't Hip a Square: The Doc Pomus Songwriting Demos on Omnivore Recordings, a six-CD set of lost, archival tracks. We continue that conversation today and learn that there just may be more tracks in her father's archive that have never been released co-written by a very famous musician from New Orleans. We also hear more about her father's second career as a card player when the royalty money dried up in the 1970s and the characters who inhabited that word – the mobsters, the octogenarians, the hypochondriacs, the gun-toting security and more. We also learned why the games stopped (take a guess) and how Doc began the second phase of his songwriting career, years after his career started. Sharyn's colorful stories on this episode include two very popular music business folks who absolutely hated each other, Doc Pomus' connection to a massive film in the 1970s that launched a comedy duo and became part of pop culture icons, how a bathhouse singer gained massive fame via Doc's help but never acknowledged it publicly and much more. Part two is every bit as good as part one as you will hear right now on this episode of the Rarified Heir Podcast. Everyone has a story.

In this special Elvis Week episode, acclaimed music historian Peter Guralnick joins us to discuss his new book, "The Colonel and the King," a deeply researched portrait of the complex relationship between Elvis Presley and his manager, Colonel Tom Parker. Guralnick, author of the definitive two-volume Elvis biography (Last Train to Memphis and Careless Love), offers new insight drawn from thousands of letters and documents never before made public. In addition to stories of his early meetings with Colonel Tom Parker and others from the world of Elvis Presley, Guralnick shares his experiences researching and writing about early rock 'n' roll, blues, country and soul in the American South.
The Duran Clan dives into what they’ve learned (and what they definitely haven’t) this semester—journaling on trains, craving Elvis merch, debating Sandals resorts, and swapping music recs that somehow end with the Fifty Shades soundtrack.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
All week we're revisiting archival interviews with key figures in early rock and roll, rockabilly and R&B. Sam Phillips discovered Elvis Presley and produced his first records, which many consider Elvis' best. He also founded Sun Records and launched the careers of Jerry Lee Lewis, Roy Orbison, Charlie Rich and Johnny Cash. Cash is one of the most influential figures in country music. His collaboration with producer Rick Rubin, starting in the late 1990s, transformed Cash's image and gained him a new, young audience.
