If You Want to Slide, Not Slam, into Perimenopause, You Should: Find a healthcare practitioner who listens to your own unique needs Focus on healing your gut, balancing your hormones, and managing your stress Keep raising the volume on these conversations to help empower all women Have you worried you are in early or perimenopause but secretly hoped you are not? If you answered yes, you are not alone. The misinformation and stigma surrounding perimenopause, menopause, and beyond is what is keeping so many women from sauntering into this new phase of life, and it's time that stopped. The good news is there are many ways for you to take care of yourself and learn what is going on in your body to approach this new chapter with ease and grace. Each of our bodies is unique, and it is only by empowering yourself through knowledge that you can gain the tools and resources necessary to take care of your body. This is not your mother's menopause, and it is possible to make empowered decisions about your body by gaining hormone literacy, having the courage to think outside of the box, and standing in your power of how you want to experience this new phase. While there is no magic pill, there are many natural ways that you can get to the root causes of your symptoms and take back your health. Quotes: “You really need to take care of yourself, so that you can continue to take care of others.” (14:20) “That is the beauty of finding the right person to be able to help you. Working with someone that actually is working in something called narrative medicine, where both of you come together, and you exchange your life experiences, and you are moving forward together for a common goal.” (24:26) “What we have to do is continue to have these conversations that amplify it. Because when we do that, when we shine the light on it, we actually take the boogeyman out of it. (26:25) “When you own it, when you own that part of your story, it empowers you. And that's what I am looking to do for my women. I want you to be able to say ‘I'm not crazy. This is me. This is what's happening, and this is what I am doing to make sure I can function every day and still show up and give you this bada*s whatever, that's me'.” (33:28) “We are seeing the symptoms, and we are understanding them more. How do you find purpose? What does it mean to live with intention? And why is it important to cultivate stillness? These questions are important. The answers are tricky. To solve these riddles to the human dilemma, you have to know where to look.Knowing Where To Look also happens to be the title of Light Watkins’ new book. Is it a sign or coincidence? The answer is up to you.In addition to being a good friend, a beautiful incarnation of the human form, a nomadic minimalist, and expert meditation and spiritual teacher, Light is also a prolific public speaker and the founder of The Shine (a groovy TED meets Self-Realization love child event series) and the author of three books: The Inner Gym, Bliss More, and of course, his latest work and the focus of our gathering, Knowing Where To Look.My third microphone communion with Light begins with a dive into his adventures in minimalism (every single thing he owns fits into a single carry-on bag) and what it’s like being a 50-year old ex-pat nomad living in Mexico City. We also touch on his experiences in meditation and mindfulness, and the impact of his activism on issues related to racial injustice. But mainly we focus on things like the power of kindness, the importance of patience and reflection, how to cultivate intuition, and how to have the courage to trust it.In a nutshell, this conversation is about how to put faith into action, and why the aspirational life is built upon a foundation of small gestures—tiny actions undertaken every day, every hour, every moment. If you’re new to the force of love that is Light Watkins, I suggest tuning up our earlier conversations, RRP #172 and RRP #357. Check him out in my book Voicing Change, which you can find here. Listen to his podcast At the End of The Tunnel and of course, pick up his new book, the choose-your-own-adventure style of daily inspiration that is Knowing Where To Look.To read more click here. If You Want To Overcome Your Estrogen Dominance You Should: Pay attention to your symptoms and get tested to identify which type of estrogen dominance you are experiencing Rethink the products and medications you are using and the impact they could be having on your hormones Include liver detoxifying foods, herbs, and supplements into your daily routine Stay consistent about detoxing your pathways and balancing hormones in order to see results Are you in your mid 30’s or 40’s and are having a hard time recognizing yourself? Are you experiencing unexplained weight gain or crazy PMS symptoms that make you want to smash your head against the wall? The culprit could be estrogen dominance. Most doctors don’t know that estrogen dominance is at an all-time high for women over 35, and it is often overlooked or dismissed. The good news is that you can reverse your hormone imbalance symptoms through natural remedies that can help you start feeling your best again. Overcoming Estrogen Dominance With Magdalena Wszelaki Magdalena Wszelaki is the founder of Hormones Balance, an online community dedicated to helping women rebalance their hormones naturally. She is also a certified nutrition coach, herbalist, a published bestselling cookbook author, speaker, and educator. After a health crisis that resulted from a highly stressful life in advertising, starting from Graves’ and Hashimoto’s Disease to adrenal issues and estrogen dominance, Magdalena was disappointed by the lack of information she found. Her new book, Overcoming Estrogen Dominance, seeks to provide a clear and complete path to empower women with what to do about their hormonal imbalance. A Comprehensive Guide to Hormone Imbalance When it comes to estrogen dominance, there is a lot to unpack. Estrogen dominance is on the rise and has been linked to allergies, autoimmune, breast cancer, infertility, blood clotting, fibroids, accelerated aging, and much more. Millions of women are dealing with estrogen dominance symptoms without even knowing it, which is Magdalena’s mission to change. Correcting your hormone imbalance can change your life, and it all boils down to the detoxification of your liver pathways and eating for your hormones. Consistency Is Key The first step to healing your estrogen dominance is by paying attention to your symptoms and identifying which of the two types of estrogen dominance you are struggling from. Knowing the cause of your hormone imbalance is crucial to feeding your body the right foods, herbs, and supplements to get onto a path of healing. Being consistent in your efforts to balance your hormones and detoxify your liver also plays a massive part in your recovery. Magdalena is here to share simple and easy ways to apply and adopt healthy strategies into your daily routine so that you can correct your hormonal imbalance through natural remedies. Are you ready to empower yourself with the necessary knowledge to rebalance your hormones, detoxify your liver and overcome your estrogen dominance? Share which of Magdalena’s tips you will try first with me in the comments section of the episode page. We are joined for our very first female guests: Julia Bringolf and author, Stacy Manning, as we get a wife's perspective on masculinity. Definitely one of our best and most controversial episodes, with these bold and fiery women as we discuss marriage, if "toxic masculinity" a thing and is masculinity under attack in our culture. NOTES: This Weeks Whiskey: The Balvenie Caribbean Cask 14 year - Single Malt Scotch Guests: Julia Bringolf - Christian Bringolf's wife Stacy Manning - Co-Author of "Them Before Us, Why We Need a global Children's Rights Movement" Questions: Does "Toxic Masculinity" exist....? The role that absent fathers play in the home - Men are missing from the home and missing as fathers The inappropriate exercise of men's violence - Using it towards woman and children, instead of using their violence and strength for protecting, sports or battle Is there a correlation between man's anger and their violence? Can violence be expressed absent of anger? What happens when the cultural norm for a man swings from "The Greatest Generations" stoic, un-emotional, distant and quite man (like many of our grand fathers, to the soft and sensitive "man" who wears his emotions on his sleeve and is emotionally and physically delicate, who doesn't stand up for what is right and suites when life gets hard? The opposite side of men being violent, is them being gentle and tender towards their wives and children... and having both a father and mother in the home is key to children seeing and learning this Woman (especially single-moms) are statistically more likely to be the physical abusers of children in a household How is a young man not to be angry in a fatherless house, knowing that he is missing out and that his dad has chosen to abandon him and his mom How have you experienced masculinity? Men and women are simply made differently and relate to each other differently The message that Stacy learned from her father was that, "a woman's currency is in her appearance alone" and due to that messaging, she ended up putting herself into some pretty bad situations and a victim of rape But the number of men in her life that have cared for, loved, nurtured and rescued her, far out number those who have been cruel and unkind A woman wants to be protected by her husband... woman don't want to be the strong protector in the family Is masculinity under attack? Masculinity is largely under attach by woman, who are largely dissatisfied with how their lives have turned out, and they blame men in general or the larger culture. Feminism's goal is to erase the difference between men and woman and is a wrong response to a valid cultural concern. Real feminism would uphold woman as different and special based on what they can do that men can't (or aren't designed to under God's design), not trying to make them just like a man. Are woman afraid to push-back and admit that feminism has been peddling a false narrative and is a lie? Woman would do their daughters a favor if they taught them, "yes, you can have it all but it will be in a different order than men... and you need a man to accomplish it". Woman can still have their kids and be CEO... but they have to have their kids in their 20s and be a CEO after that. Feminism and chauvinism are both distortions of how God created men and woman to operate and relate to each other. Complimentaryism is the answer. Biblical complimentarianism: God created Man to be masculine and fill a role in the world and family and God created Woman to be feminine and fill a roll in the world and family. Of equal value and worth but distinct and different. We are often guilty of the arrogance of "chronological snobbery", where we assume that we are better, smarter, more advanced and "know better" and so is free to judge people and cultures of the past against today's cultural standards. Stacy is passionate that we are doing our children a disservice by lying to them by telling them they can "be anything they want to be". The scandal of the book, "The Surrendered Wife". Pick your battles, humble ourselves and surrender the small stuff Biblical authority and submission: Wives are to submit to their husbands BUT husbands are to love their wives, as Jesus loved the Church and died for her. Everyone is under God's authority, even if we don't recognize it or believe in God. If a husband and wife are primarily focused on how they can out-serve each other, they will avoid a lot of the selfish pitfalls in a marriage. If we know and trust that our spouse is reliant on God, it makes it that much easier to trust them and for a wife to submit to and follow her husband. Is there a valid reason for a cultural push-back against "bad" masculinity? Does a wife submitting to her husband mean she is quiet and docile? Not necessarily, but like Jesus, she can be meek (power under control & submitted to God). While the church is not directly responsible in the failure of men as husbands & fathers (that requires a much more intimate relationships, mentoring or discipleship) but the Church did fail in not standing up agains the divorce culture and defending marriage, which God gave us as the foundation for a healthy family. Final Thoughts: Julia Bringolf - For the soon to be wife: Your husband is meant to fill the role that you are not meant to fill. You can't be everything and don't try to be. Stacy Manning - Take your husband's name. "The patriarchy" is not a thing. If you are going to be associated with a man for the rest of your life, make it your husband, not your father. Do the hard things because the easier choices are almost never the right choice. God made men to be men and woman to be woman. Enjoy and celebrate the differences. Saule Omarova is a professor of law and the director of the Jack Clarke Program on the Law and Regulation of Financial Institutions and Markets at Cornell University. Saule joins Macro Musings to talk about the prospects of an emergency fiscal facility, as well as a broader vision for a National Investment Authority. Specifically, Saule and David discuss the need for a third public finance agency, what the mandate of such an authority would be, and how the agency would be structured and held accountable. Saule also answers common objections to her vision such as the potential institutional redundancies, as well as how to prevent cronyism and excessive politicization. Why We Need a Savior. ACU Sunday Series
This is a special episode with my little sister Chelsea! She is apart of a General Conference study group with me called Sunday Studies! We go live every Sunday and discuss thoughts and impressions from a General Conference talk. For the month of December, we have been focusing our "lives" all on Christmas. Chelsea shared some really wonderful thoughts a few weeks ago that I knew I wanted her to share on this week of our Come Follow Me study. I loved our conversation and I hope you do too! The challenge that Chelsea leaves with all of you is "As you think about His birth, ponder why He came and how His coming has changed your life." What an AMAZING guest! Dr. Bill Schindler is an archeologist who has traveled to every corner of the globe to learn about our human roots. In his travels, Dr. Schindler learned that our current industrialized food system is vastly different than what we have eaten as a species for millions of years. He and his family, nicknamed the Modern Stone-Age Family, strive to eat and live the way our ancestors did, all while dealing with our modern lives. Today, we discussed the importance of taking steps to get closer to the source of the foods that you eat and share with loved ones. It was an honor to learn from him, and we are grateful that he took the time!Find Dr. Bill Schindler at Eat Like a HumanSave 50% on his amazing classes using the promo code- save50 (we loved the Bread and Butter class!)His book Eat Like a Human is coming next year! Carlos, Tim, and Hiram discuss whether it’s appropriate for Christians to vote for non-Christians, Trump, or Biden; how to avoid gagging at gnats while swallowing camels; discernment and the media; the 2020 presidential debates and town halls; the Supreme Court and Amy Coney Barrett; China; the Coronavirus COVID-19; and more! From Tim:The leftist media and politicians want you to believe that Trump is a racist but that is a lie. Unfortunately, I’ve seen lots of people level this charge because they believe the lie. Most of this stems from Charlottesville. Critics say he referred to white supremacists and neo-Nazis as “very fine people.” It’s hard to believe that people are still spreading that lie. Here is an honest breakdown of the Charlottesville speech:https://youtu.be/NM6k8uNAQBA Here is the original clip so you can fact-check it for yourself:https://youtu.be/JmaZR8E12bs During the presidential debate, Trump was asked to condemn white supremacists and militia groups and as the question was being asked, he, without hesitation, said, “Sure.” Folks, that is a condemnation! He then said, “Sure, I’m willing to do that,” and drew attention to the reality that mob violence in the cities primarily comes from Antifa and the radical left. He later said, “What do you want me to call them? Give me a name.”While Trump was trying to engage honestly, the “moderator” Chris Wallace and Biden were playing gotcha. He got sidetracked because of the dishonesty in the question. First, the question carried the assumption that he hasn’t already and repeatedly condemned white supremacy. Here is a montage of him doing just that:https://youtu.be/VjXGa14UwvgSecondly, the question carried the assumption that the violence is being perpetrated by the far right. That’s what Trump took issue with and unfortunately got sidetracked. Here is what an honest moderate would have said: “Mr. Biden, we’ve heard Trump repeatedly condemn white supremacists, neo-Nazis and the KKK. Trump has gone so far as to designate the KKK as a terrorist organization. Yet, you have falsely accused him of not condemning these groups while also pushing the Charlottesville lie repeatedly and have not been willing to condemn Antifa and the radical left. Are you willing to stop lying about your opponent and condemn Antifa?”That would have been an honest, appropriate question to ask, but what is a political hack like Wallace to do? You should also remember that while Trump has gone to great lengths to condemn these hateful groups it was Biden who said Antifa is an idea, not an organization. And he got away with it! Author and Electoral College expert Tara Ross joins Tim to tell the story behind the Electoral College, how it governs elections and why it is still needed. Tara’s latest book is entitled, “Why We Need the Electoral College.” https://traffic.libsyn.com/secure/shapingopinion/Electoral_College_auphonic.mp3 It’s happened five times. Five times a candidate won the presidency even though he did not win the popular vote. He won the presidency because he won the Electoral College. If you’re wondering why the United States doesn’t just choose a president based only on the popular vote, the answer as we know it was given in 1804. Some in congress wanted Congress to choose the president. Others wanted a democratic popular vote. And even to this day, many Americans believe that we do elect a president based on that popular vote. The country’s leaders arrived at a compromise which created the Electoral College. Tara Ross is a retired attorney and the author of four books on the Electoral College. While she is one of the nation’s leading experts on the Electoral College, she continues to find that most Americans remain generally confused about why it exists and what it does. She was also a music teacher, director of a large church school, and a college writing center consultant. Her greatest role is mother to 5 children. BIG IDEAS • The Social Dilemma is fantastic because it helps you understand that social media apps were designed for profit for the companies that designed, not for the benefit of the users (a good term because of the addictive nature of the apps). • If you have preteens or teens, we encourage you to have them watch The Social Dilemma with you. They'll understand more at the end, they'll maybe see themselves or their friends in it or their cousins. They'll understand it from the perspective of one of those ages. If you have young children, the film is really a cautionary tale. It's something that if you watch it now you can prevent some of these things from happening. • While we do have the children's online privacy and protection act, that has not translated into the regulations for social media that you would expect, and kids are still able to scroll. They're able to find things. • For our kids, it's so easy for them to believe everything that they see and for us to need to explain that not everything is real on the internet. Fake news and stories spread much faster than true ones. As I argued in Digital Minimalism, these tools are both powerful and indifferent to your best interests. Until you decide to adopt a minimalist ethos, and deploy technology intentionally to serve specific values you care about, the damage it inflicts will continue to accumulate. -Cal Newport, Do Smartphones Make Us Dumber? Chase DiMarco shares tips for dealing with failure in medical school and healthcare education. Failure can be the beginning rather than the end. [00:20] Why We Need to Talk About Failure [01:30] Feelings Surrounding Failure [03:51] How to Overcome Failure [05:25] Failures Involving Board Exams [06:57] Chase’s Failures [09:01] How Chase Persisted to Convert His Failures into Successes [11:25] Wish, Outcome, Obstacle, Plan (WOOP) Failure is inevitable, but it can be a starting point, rather than an endpoint. Think about your struggles with failure; be they academic, occupational, or social. You can transform these negative associations with failure into opportunities for growth. As Chase puts it: “Failure + Persistence = Success.” When we fail, we are often bombarded with thoughts such as “I cannot believe I did this again,” or “I am just not good enough.” Research indicates that this is not an optimal mindset for your education. So, how do you turn these failures into successes? First, think about whether the failure was actually your fault. For example, if 98% of your class failed a test, perhaps the instructor insufficiently prepared the class for the test. In these situations, do not get trapped in your thoughts. Let it go. However, if you do see a solution that you can implement, then do so. Consider the example of preparing for a board exam. If you realize that you are failing practice tests, then take steps to improve. Practice self-exploration and self-awareness, and reach out to people who can help you. Talk to peers who have gone through the exam, incorporate evidence-based study techniques, or maybe even delay your exam schedule until you are better prepared. Chase himself delayed his graduation date, made excuses about his performance, has been guilty of not implementing proper study techniques, and has often neglected his mental and physical health. The 1-Minute Preceptor podcast and his book Read This Before Medical School are both products of his initial failure. They are also both examples of how a small failure can be the seed for much greater success. Do not just read this post and walk away. Think back on your failure points. What have you done to mitigate your weaknesses? Can you pre-plan for possible failures? If you have neglected physical activity, can you buy some weights to use at home? If you have neglected social interaction, can you join meetups around the city? Be proactive, conscious, and intentional about bettering yourself. One concrete framework for planning for future failures is the Wish, Outcome, Obstacle, Plan (WOOP) framework, which was discussed in Episode 31 of this podcast with Dr. Daniel Saddawi-Konefka. One day, or Day One — you choose. Sign up for a Free Coaching session with Chase DiMarco, sponsored by Prospective Doctor! After indulging in several White Claws and glasses of wine, the duo break down their stand out stars and stand out scenes from the film. Michae gushes over the Jonas Brothers, a group she has stanned since their beginning and shares her ranking of the songs on the soundtrack. Katie addresses her beef with Alyson Stoner and asks several questions that the film left her with. Katie and Michae struggle to stay on topic however, it wouldn't be a Drunk Disney episode without their lovable tangents. Tune in next week for an episode about Jennifer Lawrence and her impressive career in Hollywood. There are several important issues that need our action and attention, immediately. Something a little different: this is the audio from a video on the DeClue's Views YouTube channel, which I am republishing here because I want to give these men a wider audience. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KeQenCC8iQo Description: In a recent video,Taylor Marshall presented what he considers to be errors in the documents of the Second Vatican Council. This video by Richard DeClue and Chris Plance serves as a rebuttal. It starts by highlighting general problems with Marshall's approach and the spiritual dangers it entails. It then goes through each of Marshall's "errors," offering corrective interpretations in light of the documents themselves and other magisterial texts. Show Notes This week's discussion is with Jenifer Joy Madden, author of How to be a Durable Human. We participated in a conversation for Digital Wellness Day, and this episode is a recording of our conversation from that webinar. We discussed concepts from both of our books. Madden is a health and environmental journalist who is also a digital broadcaster and adjunct professor for Syracuse University in their DC Program. Madden is a child advocate who has volunteered her time to establish new walking and biking trails throughout northern Virginia. Madden is also the parent of three durable adults. Listen to Episode 30 if you'd like to hear my first interview with Jenifer about her book, How To Be a Durable Human: Revive and Thrive in the Digital Age Through the Power of Self-Design. And you can listen to our second chat here: Ep. 71: Growing Your Child's Bushy Broccoli Brain. Big Ideas Our kids need to be seen and heard especially during the pandemic. We still need routines even if we and/or our kids are having a hard time right now. When we “think outside the loop” we can create memorable moments for our families. It’s important for us to be “durable” and for us to help our kids become “durable” as well. Quotes Audrey: We have to be more intentional and in control of this digital world that is so much now a part of what we do. Audrey: During times of stress or challenge is where we build our resilience or our durability. Jenifer: Resilience has more to do with being knocked down and being able to get up again, but durability is to endure day to day and to actually maybe even grow in strength. Jenifer: Almost every expert agrees that we need to be rocks and models. And what I mean by that is that for children, we are their constant in all of this. Their lives have totally been upended as have ours, except we're the adults in the room. And so we have to be reassuring to them and we have to be steady and they have to lean on us. Jenifer: Especially when we're talking about technology, we have to be aware of how we're using our technology so it doesn't get in the way of them. Audrey: During meals is a good time for everybody to catch up and see each other. And then bedtimes are very important for that, too. Audrey: I think a lot of parents are feeling really frazzled just from the pressures of everything going on. And I just think that I know with my kids who are a little bit older, it's been really good for us to just be sharing. We share at dinner our highs and lows. And just to say, “You know what, today was a better day because this and this and this, and today I was just really feeling discouraged or down.” and being really open and honest with them that these are very real and normal feelings during this time to not feel like your best self every day. Jenifer: We have to know we're not superheroes. We can't be. We can't have our finger on every pulse at every moment. We almost have to lower the expectations for ourselves. Audrey: Just a simple activity that we can all do right now is just to make a really short list of just the little things in life that bring us some delight. Audrey: They always say at the end of our life, the things that you're going to miss most are just the real basic stuff, like having a cup of coffee with your spouse and chatting in the morning and smiling and talking with your kids and laughing over a funny joke around dinner. I mean it's those things that money can't buy. Jenifer: The experts are also saying that we need to validate their feelings, which is if they're moping around, rather than giving them a hard time, say, “I understand, I know what you're going through,” and they suggest you can say, “I’m here.” Audrey: It is great to have a really warm, close relationship with your kids, but it is not the same. We are not the same for them as what their peers and their friends do for them. Jenifer: The hug is like a muscle relaxant, tranquilizer, and love potion all rolled into one. Jenifer: Having screen-free bedrooms is a good idea. Audrey: We need to raise people who are able to make good decisions and promote their own good habits. Audrey: In order for your little microcosm of your home to function well, everybody needs to be pitching in. Audrey: The message of pro kindness and reaching out and having compassion for others is far more powerful in a way that we can appeal to their identity as a person. Jenifer: Once you get them going, their imaginations do take off. Audrey: When the kids are there all day, you really do need to strategize some ways to get them and encourage them to play either on their own or with their siblings without needing you there all the time. Jenifer: When they grow up and they want to go to medical school, they want to be a surgeon, they have to be able to handle a needle. So this is another reason to give them play-dough instead of a screen. Jenifer: We have to have this overview of giving our children some time to be bored and not be constantly entertained. So they actually start to think for themselves. Audrey: Doing things with our hands is to me kind of a good, relaxing thing too. Audrey: It's interesting that we are being drawn to these things that make us more durable. Jenifer: I think things might get even more confusing than they are now. And so we have to be checking in with ourselves about: Are we getting upset? Is there a way that I can back out of this and not be so upset? I think that using techniques such as deep breathing, removing yourself from the situation, placing your hands on a hard surface if that's the least you can do, close your eyes and take some deep breaths just to get yourself pulled back together because there are going to be challenges and we need to have quick strategies to figure out, “Wait a minute, I'm flying off the handle. I don't want to, I'm not going to.” and walk away. Audrey: What a great example we can set if we can manage to just take even one or two deep breaths before we respond. Jenifer: I know it's possible for you to be durable and keep that compassion and that intuition and creativity up front. Today, I am blessed to have here with me an expert in all things Chiropractic, Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, Nutrition, Exercise, Detoxification, Dr. Jason Sonners. He has always been fascinated by the machinery of the human frame and strives to learn everything and anything he can that might help even one of his patients. Always working to integrate new knowledge and practical experience, in addition to his Doctor of Chiropractic, Jason earned his Diplomate of the Chiropractic Board of Clinical Nutrition (DCBCN) and his Diplomate of the International Board of Applied Kinesiology (DIBAK). He is one of only 250 professionals in the world with this distinction. Dr. Sonners utilizes his combined training in various modalities to create comprehensive programs and help patients achieve their health goals. His patients are dealing with, among other conditions, a variety of autoimmune and neurological conditions, allergies, autism and cancer. He combines Chiropractic, Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, Nutrition, Exercise, Detoxification programs and more to naturally support patients and guide them through their health challenges. Dr. Sonners and his wife, Dr. Melissa Sonners, are co-owners of Core Therapies Family Wellness Center in Northern New Jersey, a holistic center with eight chiropractors whose specialties include functional neurology, functional medicine, pre/post-partum, pediatric and sports injuries. Core Therapies also offers acupuncture, massage, infrared, sauna, spinal decompression, yoga and laser therapies. Drs. Jason and Melissa Sonners are also the owners of NJ HBOT and HBOT USA. In this episode, Dr. Sonners describes the benefits of hyperbaric oxygen therapy and how it all works. Dr. Sonners dives deep into the mitochondria and how improving our cells will boost energy, improve our quality of life, and also longevity. Plus, Dr. Sonners explains how to improve your mitochondria by doing things like taking magnesium and utilizing red light therapy. Later, Dr. Sonners reveals why you may lack oxygen, and he dives deep into some other tools that you can use to get the oxygen flowing in your blood. Stay tuned for Dr. Sonner’s body hacks! // E P I S O D E S P ON S O R S PureForm Omega Plant Based Oils (Best Alternative to Fish Oil): http://www.purelifescience.com Use ben4 for $4.00 off. http://www.Kettleandfire.com/ketokamp and use KETOKAMP at checkout to save 15% on your entire order. [00:55] About Dr. Sonners Sonners regained the feeling in his foot after using hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Needless to say, Dr. Sonners bought a chamber and brought it home. Eventually, his foot completely recovered. Before hyperbaric oxygen therapy, Dr. Sonners couldn’t even stand on his foot and had no motor control. [04:20] About Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy All of our cells need oxygen. Most of us will be 98% - 100% oxygen saturated. We are limited to how much oxygen we can carry. Hyperbaric allows for a more significant amount of oxygen to run through our blood. [06:15] How Our Mitochondria Helps Us The mitochondrion is a little part inside of our cells – they need energy. For our brains to create thoughts, it needs energy. All of our cells have mitochondria to build energy, so the cells of those tissues can do its job. Improving your mitochondria is enormous. It is the cornerstone of improving the quality of life and longevity simultaneously. Running on fat is a clean burn. Magnesium will help make your mitochondria work better. Red light and oxygen will also assist with giving your mitochondria energy. [09:45] Why You May Lack Oxygen You may need more oxygen if you have lung issues or heart issues. Anytime you have an injury, there will be damage to your capillaries. Then, the oxygen will not be able to get through. With hyperbaric, the oxygen will be able to travel through plasma. As long as there is liquid flow, there will be oxygen exchange through plasma using hyperbaric. [12:50] What Oxygen Can Do For COVID-19 COVID-19 is attacking lung tissue and resulting in a difficulty to breathe. Oxygen is not getting into our respiratory system. Whenever we see oxygen levels dropping, people assume it’s a lung issue. However, the oxygenation might be the problem. COVID-19 might be attacking the hemoglobin. All of a sudden, the hemoglobin is inefficient at carrying the oxygen. What are other ways we can be oxygenating people? Dr. Sonners says we should avoid the need for ventilators all together. [17:10] How Does Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Work? You are inside a tube. The chamber fills with air or oxygen. As it is filling, you need to make sure your ears are equalizing. People read a book, take a nap, or meditate. The average session is sixty-minute sessions. [18:50] The Role Oxygen Plays on Reducing Inflammation Oxygen will help regain normal flow in the damaged tissues. This, alone, will improve inflammation. Our bodies are constantly regulating chemicals. Hyperbaric oxygen will help lower inflammatory chemicals. If we can improve how much energy the body is making, we can improve the tissue function. [22:20] Other Ways to Get Oxygen Flowing in the Blood All oxygen therapies have a place. Exercise with oxygen therapy is a great tool. Ozone is another excellent tool. We need oxygen! In many cases, we need more oxygen regularly so that our system can become better and more efficient. Some simple things you can do: Breathing techniques Cold immersions Cryotherapy [26:45] Why We Need to Revolutionize Health Care We suppress the body’s ability to express itself and block the messages our body is trying to tell us. Oxygen doesn’t cure anything – it provides a nutrient for our body to heal itself. We need to allow our body to heal itself and create an internal environment that is essential for the healing process. Oxygen therapy is simple; our cells already know what to do with it. Oxygen therapy needs to be on the front line. [30:10] Practical Body Hacks for Energy The most effective body hacks are recreating what we should be getting naturally. Red light therapy is a fantastic tool. We are getting way too much blue light from spending too much time inside. Also, we avoid the sun. In reality, we need responsible sun exposures. Breathing exercises and grounding while outside will also help energy levels. [34:20] The Role of Oxygen on Brain Disease The oxygen will heal damaged circulation in the brain. Oxygen will also help our body multitask. Our brain uses 20% of the oxygen that our body gets. If we increase oxygen, can we see an increase in brain function? The answer is yes. AND MUCH MORE! At least 1 in 5 people are differently wired, says Debbie Reber, founder of TiLT Parenting. Differently wired kids are neurologically atypical. They perceive the world differently than their peers and express themselves differently as well. These differences can be subtle or glaring, and as a parent or teacher, it can be hard to know how to respond to these quirks. Debbie and her husband noticed their son Asher's differences early on. He was "more intense, more precocious, more challenging" than similarly aged children and was "moving through the world in a different way" than his peers. By elementary school, his differences were creating challenges. Eventually, the family learned that Asher is "twice exceptional;" he's gifted and has some learning challenges, including ADHD and executive functioning and sensory issues. The diagnoses confirmed Debbie's gut instinct: Asher moves through the world differently than most boys his age. But the diagnoses didn't unveil any magic solutions. The family still had to learn how to help Asher thrive. "It's tricky to figure out a path and a plan when your child doesn't fit the box," Debbie says. "It's important to realize that there is no handbook for these kids. It's really about trying to identify your child's areas of weakness, learning what kind of support might help them right now and then taking one step at a time." Identifying and supporting your son's strengths is also essential. After all, differences aren't necessarily a bad thing. "We value disruptors as the innovators, the people creating new products and solving the problems of the world. Disruption is a buzzword!" Debbie says. "Our kids are disruptors because they're non-conformists, they see the world differently, they're going to challenge authority and question everything. Isn't that what we want?" In this episode, Jen, Janet & Debbie discuss: Identifying differently wired children What to do if people dismiss your concerns about your son's behavior The link between lagging skill development and "bad behavior" Respectful transparency (or, how to talk to your son about his challenges) How to find help for your differently wired kid Why you need to challenge your beliefs about what you (and your child) "should" do Homeschooling as an option for differently wired boys Why non-conformity and disruption are good things Links we mentioned (or should have) in this episode: tiltparenting.com -- TiLT Parenting online (includes links to TiLT Parenting Podcast too) TiLT Together FB Group Differently Wired: A Parent's Guide to Raising an Atypical Child with Confidence and Hope, by Debbie Reber Twice Exceptional Boys (w Ramsey Hootman) -- ON BOYS episode ADHD with Ryan Wexelblatt the ADHD Dude -- ON BOYS episode Sensory Processing Disorder w Nancy Peske -- ON BOYS episode Snoop Dogg listening to Let It Go (Video mentioned at 29:02. Cynthia has been a nurse practitioner for 20+ years, and is a two-time TEDx speaker. She has been featured on ABC, FOX5, KTLA, CW and in Medium and Entrepreneur. She's also the host of Everyday Wellness podcast, which was listed as "20 Podcasts That Will Help You Grow in 2020" by Entrepreneur magazine. As an advocate for living a fulfilled, healthy and well- balanced lifestyle, Cynthia has committed her career to serving women in their thirties and beyond. She is countering the notion that "this is just how we age, now settle and accept it" and is leading the way for change. As part of that endeavor, Cynthia brings over 20 years of medical experience, combined with current and progressive nutritional perspectives/approaches to truly serve women frustrated with the status quo. Cynthia provides hope and customized programs that work. She selflessly and transparently shares her own personal experiences navigating hormonal imbalances, peri-menopause, and all of the symptoms that plague so many women. She authentically connects to her clients and tribe. Cynthia has been a guest on numerous podcasts including JJ Virgin's Reignite Wellness, Natalie Jill's Leveling Up, 365 Driven with Tony Whatley, Low Carb MD podcast with Drs. Tro and Lenzkes, and University of Adversity to name a few. Cynthia has been featured on Good Morning Washington, WJLA-ABC 14+ times, KTLA, Fox and speaks on intermittent fasting, hormonal health, fat loss, self-care, the power of whole food nutrition, carb cycling, adaptogenic herbs, digestive health and more. She has worked with thousands of individuals who desire to live their lives holistically, balanced, and fulfilled. In this episode, Cynthia Thurlow dives deep into her background and explains the inspiration behind her mission. Cynthia speaks about her passion for intermittent fasting and describes why stabilizing your blood sugar is so crucial for a healthy life. Plus, Cynthia reveals her favorite benefits of fasting and explains the importance of doing the inner work. We need to be aware of limiting beliefs, our negative thoughts, and where our energy is going. Then, Cynthia worked with cardiology. When Cynthia became a parent, she found her child had eczema. This led Cynthia to learn more about nutrition. Cynthia recommends The Unhealthy Truth: One Mother's Shocking Investigation into the Dangers of America's Food Supply-- and What Every Family Can Do to Protect Itself. Cynthia started to think if she was happy with writing prescriptions. Truthfully, she wasn’t happy. When Cynthia started to study nutrition, she finally felt like she found her calling. Four years ago, Cynthia woke up and realized she was done with traditional medicine and gave her notice the same day. Cynthia wants to make a larger impact on her own terms. Frankly, she was tired of people telling her what to do. Now, she is doing exactly what she is supposed to do. [06:40] Why Cynthia Recommends Intermittent Fasting People have been conditioned to believe that they need to eat in the morning. However, our bodies are not designed to be eating all day long. When we are going against convention, we need the confidence to say BS. The cereal companies will benefit when they convince us that we need to eat breakfast garbage. Our bodies are designed to fast, feast, and fast again. Snacking is making us fat. [11:50] How To Stabilize Your Blood Sugar Each meal needs to have protein and healthy fats first. Carbs should be the non-processed variety. We have to stabilize our blood sugar first. Bacon, eggs, and avocado is a great example of fat-filled breakfast. If you are hungry within an hour of eating, your macros are off. Once you get your blood sugar stable, then you can move onto the concept of fasting. If you can’t sleep through the night, then you can’t lose weight. Also, if you are stressed, then you can’t lose weight. If a woman starts losing their period because of a fast, then the fast is too much for their body. [15:30] The Best Benefits of Fasting Mental clarity is Cynthia’s favorite benefit of fasting. She likes to know that she has loads of energy. The improved digestive process is Cynthia’s second favorite benefit. Lastly, the benefits of autophagy are fantastic. People are attracted to fasting because of weight loss; however, they find out that they feel so much better too. [17:20] Why We Need to Focus on Our Inner Work Inner work is what keeps us sane. We need to be aware of limiting beliefs, our negative thoughts, and where our energy is going. “Our thoughts become our actions.” -Cynthia Thurlow Mindset is the most important thing that we possess. [21:20] How to Build a Mental Six-Pack You need high-quality sleep in a cold, darkroom. Physical activity in the morning is critical. Cynthia enjoys drinking tea – it is beneficial for boosting autophagy. What are you going to do for your brain? Cynthia is always listening to a book or listening to a podcast. Coldwater therapy will also assist with your mental six-pack. [25:20] How to Build Confidence Building confidence requires being in tune with your passions. Take time each day to be inspired by other people. Creating a plan will help with your confidence. Cynthia says the best investments she has made in her business are the big-ticket ones. Sometimes you just have to leap. [29:45] How to Achieve Youthful-Looking Skin How to achieve youthful-looking skin: Autophagy Sleep Hydration Eating healthy Less feeding More fasting Be around people that make you feel joyful and happy Find something that you enjoy doing AND MUCH MORE! DEBATE: Has The Electoral College Outlived Its Usefulness? Five American presidents — two in the last 20 years — have assumed office without winning the popular vote. As the nation gears up for another contentious presidential election, some are calling for an end to the Electoral College. They argue that the college subverts the will of the American people by unfairly prioritizing rural and swing states over the nation’s majority. But others say the Electoral College, which the Founders established in the Constitution, is necessary to ensure voters in less populous states have a voice in picking our president. Has the Electoral College outlived its usefulness? This debate is presented in partnership with the Northwestern Pritzker School of Law as part of the Newt and Jo Minow Debate Series. In 2015 Dr. Clum was accepted into and started a Ph.D. program in Health Psychology at Northcentral University where his emphasis of study is centered on the relationship of chronic stress, food and general addiction cycle, and early onset of male depression in what is termed the Irritable Male Syndrome. In this episode, Dr. Clum opens the show explaining why we shouldn’t focus on boosting our immune systems; instead, we need to stop suppressing our immune systems. He then reveals the things that are suppressing our immune systems, including sugar, baked goods, and fiber. Then, Dr. Clum describes how to break a fast and the benefits of time restrictive eating. Stay tuned as he speaks about the importance of vitamin D, sleep, and exercise on our immune systems.

Today I interview, an investor, author, public speaker, lifestyle influencer, and empire builder, Elena Cardone. The Queen of her Empire, Elena has designed, constructed and protected a life outside of the ordinary. She has inspired a legion of followers to create their own empires – lives that are truly fulfilling and beyond the average. She counts her current job as her most important one – Chief Family Officer, where she is loving mother, fierce wife and loyal friend. Hosting her podcast series Women in Power, Elena interviews and speaks with other influential women about a variety of topics – social media, business, health, children, education, government, entrepreneurship, travel, beauty, fashion… and yes, sex! Bestselling author of the book Build An Empire and an in-demand speaker, Elena has traveled the globe sharing her insight, wit and experiences building an empire and creating an extraordinary 10X life for herself, husband and family. The architect behind many of Grant Cardone Enterprises’ ventures, Elena is an experienced businesswoman, entrepreneur and investor with her and Grant’s influence felt with Cardone Capital which is closing in on 10,000 units under management with a real estate portfolio valued at $1.5 Billion. In this episode, Elena dives deep into her background and explains how she fell into abusive alcohol and drug use. One day, Elena woke up and realized that she needed to get it together. Elena speaks about her ability to change and why it’s so essential to have a full schedule, especially during the quarantine. Stay tuned as Elena explains the difference between haters and naysayers and why your opinion is the only one that matters. // E P I S O D E S P ON S O R S PureForm Omega Plant Based Oils (Best Alternative to Fish Oil): http://www.purelifescience.com Use ben4 for $4.00 off. [00:30] About Elena Cardone Growing up in New Orleans, Elena had an excellent childhood. After a traumatic fire, Elena lost her childhood best friend. The very next day, she was sent back to school. Elena had no time to acknowledge or process her feelings. So, Elena decided to start self-medicating. Elena dove into alcohol and drugs. Fortunately, Elena never became a drug addict or an alcoholic. At seventeen, Elena left New Orleans and flew to Los Angeles to become an actress and a model. Elena lost eight friends before the age of seventeen. One day Elena woke up and realized that she couldn’t use her friend’s death as an excuse to drink and use drugs. [07:00] About the Ability to Change Elena has the ability to experience change. She isn’t fixed to ideas of how things are supposed to be. Every time Elena has a fixed idea, she has gotten herself into trouble. Early on, Elena had an idea that her relationship was supposed to look a certain way. However, she realized that she needed to let go of that idea and think about why she ever thought it. Then, Elena realized she didn’t need to look to her husband for her own happiness. If Elena was 100% happy, she understood that it would make her relationship evolve. Start looking at your beliefs – are they yours or did they come from someone else? Are you willing to solve your own problem? [12:20] The Importance of Health in Building an Empire You have to generate energy when building an empire. Energy is valuable – you can’t rely on someone else to give you energy. You have to produce your own! Elena takes control of her body – if she didn’t, she would sleep all day. Get Elena’s book, Build an Empire. [16:15] Why We Need a Full Schedule Elena has to have a full calendar. When the quarantine started, Elena doubled her workload. A full schedule keeps her so busy that she just keeps going and doesn’t have time to get introverted or depressed. It’s hard to get stressed when someone is working on a full schedule. We only have so much time – stay busy! When we aren’t busy, the game becomes to attack each other. [19:20] The Difference Between Haters and Naysayers A naysayer is a person who attacks your strengths. For instance, Elena says people tell her she needs a break. However, Elena has all the energy in the world; she doesn’t need a break. Elena says true friends wouldn’t tell her she looks tired; a true friend would come over and make her meal or take her outside for a walk. Naysayers need to be schooled and educated with what you will tolerate and what you won’t tolerate. Haters are the ones that are actively trying to seek your demise and reputation. When you have confidence in yourself, no one else’s opinions really matter to you. [23:20] Elena’s Keto Experience Elena has tried bulletproof tea. However, she has never tried a keto thing. She simply doesn’t know enough about it. As a model, she was told to never eat fat. As a result, Elena has limiting beliefs that fat is the enemy. [25:50] What Elena Wishes People Asked Her Elena wishes people would ask her what she could change if she could change anything in the world. Elena says her answer is that women should be acknowledged and valued for their role in society. Women should never be diminished or devalued – it’s hurting society. What if we could never take back words, decisions, and mistakes? What if we were in a world where every heartache lasted forever. This is what the world would be without a Savior. Long ago, one night in a tiny town, a child was born. Born to change all hearts and fix all mistakes. He understands all of us. He can heal us. He is there to bring us home if we let Him and follow Him. This is why we celebrate, sing, and give praise this Christmas season. This is why Jesus Christ was born. Family: it makes a nice picture. But if we look outside the frame, there is a bigger picture. When we are born we are pretty helpless. And as we grow older we continue to take care of each other. The more families take care of each other, the more they can build stronger communities. And the stronger communities become, the better the world becomes. Families are much more than the here and now. We wouldn’t be who we are without our ancestors. This is why we have a responsibility to find them and learn their stories. We can also create family relationships so strong that they last beyond this life. In temples, couples can be married not just till death but for eternity. So families can be together forever. God is our Father and we are His children. That is the big picture. Subscribe to Mormon.org: https://www.youtube.com/user/mormon?s... Watch this video at- https://youtu.be/r6CA2AtYkFM Mormon.org "Following God is how we find lasting happiness in this life and salvation in the next. God sees us as who we can be. Every day we are faced with choices, and to help us make good decisions, God gave us commandments. Instead of looking at them as a list of rules, see them as lights. Together they show us the best path. Sometimes we lose sight of God’s path and we find ourselves in darkness. This is why we have repentance. It is not about feeling guilty; it is about asking God for help. Because His son Jesus Christ died for all our sins, we get to feel the joyful feeling of forgiveness. It is a light so bright it makes the shadows of our mistakes disappear. And as far as God is concerned, it is like it never happened at all. There is one name that almost everyone has heard but many don't know. Jesus Christ, the King of Kings, Alpha and Omega, Lord of Lords, and the reason we have Christmas. We know His teachings that include love your enemies and love one another. Christ is not just a man or a teacher, He is the Messiah to save all His people (including us) from sin and death. He is also the Son of God. This gave Him the power to come to Earth, share God’s teaching, and perform miracles. His greatest miracle is giving mortals life and happiness after death. All we have to do is follow and have faith in Him. Sometimes we fail, but that is why Jesus is still relevant today, to help us be better. Learn more about mormon.org: https://www.mormon.org/" What Is a Church Community? https://youtu.be/dQvZqYQVc2I Mormon.org Mormons strive to be actively involved in their church community, believing that stronger church communities lead to a stronger society. God doesn’t love us for just an hour or two once a week. So if church exists so that we can become closer to God, it needs to be bigger than a Sunday service. A group of members aren’t just a congregation; they are an extended family of faith. No matter where Mormons live, members belong to a local congregation called a ward. In each ward there...
