This episode explores how the Neo-Assyrian Empire actually functioned at the administrative level under Sargon II, focusing on imperial bureaucracy, logistics, and governance. Using surviving Assyrian letters and court records, we examine the real machinery of empire: provincial governors, royal magnates, intelligence networks, military command structure, taxation, construction logistics, and the role of officials like the Rab Shaqe, Turtan, Sukkallu, Sartinnu, Ummanu, and Masennu.Rather than focusing on warfare alone, this episode shows how Assyria maintained control through record-keeping, resource management, legal authority, and centralized oversight. Topics include Dur-Sharrukin's construction, Assyrian spy networks, provincial administration, legal appeals, slavery and fines, river ordeals, divination in government, and the logistics behind canal building, armies, and royal projects.Primary sources from Neo-Assyrian archives reveal how officials negotiated with the king, managed shortages, tracked materials, and enforced justice across a multi-ethnic empire. This is a deep dive into Assyrian imperial administration, ancient Near Eastern bureaucracy, and the practical realities of ruling one of history's first true empires. Keywords: Neo-Assyrian Empire, Sargon II, Assyrian administration, ancient bureaucracy, Mesopotamian government, Assyrian letters, Dur-Sharrukin, Assyrian logistics, ancient empires, Near East history, Assyrian law, provincial governors, ancient military organization, Assyrian records, Mesopotamian history.I am also doing daily history facts again, at least until I run out of time again. Ever have one of those moments where everything looks great on the outside, but you suddenly realize you have not thought much about protecting the life you are working so hard to build? You are chasing big dreams, scaling the business, taking care of your family, and then it hits you. What about safety? What about awareness? What about being proactive instead of scrambling when something goes wrong? In this episode of the Happy Hustle Podcast, I chat with Michael Julian, a third-generation private investigator and the CEO of National Business Investigations. Michael began his journey into investigations and security at just 16 years old, working alongside his father. He later earned honors in Administration of Justice, became licensed across multiple states in executive protection, founded MPS Security and Protection, and created the ALIVE method, an active shooter survival training program. He is also a best-selling author, a father, and a true Happy Hustler who has spent decades seeing both the best and worst of human behavior. What makes this episode especially powerful is how relevant it is for entrepreneurs, leaders, and high performers. Michael shares why so many successful people make the mistake of treating personal and business security as an afterthought. This conversation matters because prevention is always easier than damage control, and awareness can literally save lives, reputations, and legacies. One of the biggest takeaways is the importance of being proactive instead of reactive. Michael explains that most people only think about security after something has already gone wrong. Whether it is personal safety, workplace violence, or online fraud, waiting until there is a crisis often means it is already too late. Building awareness early creates freedom, not fear. Another key lesson is the difference between a security mindset and a survival mindset. Security mindset is about preparation, awareness, and prevention. Survival mindset kicks in when a threat becomes real and immediate. Learning both allows you to stay calm, act intentionally, and protect yourself and others without panic. Michael also dives deep into situational awareness. Not paranoia. Not judgment. Awareness of behavior. Paying attention to what feels off can help you avoid dangerous situations before they escalate. This applies not only in public spaces but also in business partnerships, online interactions, and leadership decisions. The episode also highlights how common sense and verification are essential in the digital age. With scams, impersonations, and AI-generated fraud becoming more sophisticated, slowing down, double-checking information, and using available tools can prevent massive financial and emotional losses. Finally, there is a powerful reflection on growth, maturity, and fulfillment. Michael shares openly about evolving as a leader, working with family, letting go of old conditioning around overworking, and learning to enjoy the fruits of decades of hard work. It is a reminder that success without presence and balance is not the goal. Happy Hustlin' is. If you are building something meaningful and want to protect it while still living fully, this is an episode you do not want to miss. Go listen to the full conversation and soak in all the wisdom, stories, and practical insights. What does Happy Hustlin mean to you? Michael says belonging to a group of like-minded high performers that have probably been through a lot of the same struggles as me or other struggles that I can learn from. 2 Corinthians 8:16-9:5 - Speaker: Lukus Counterman - The relationship between Paul and the church of Corinth has been patched up and now the apostle wants to see the believers get reengaged in the famine relief project. He's talked to them about the generosity of the Macedonians and the generosity of Jesus and now he calls them to generosity themselves. But in the actual administration of these financial resources, Paul wisely avoids common missteps and instead operates with integrity and transparency. This week as we look into 2 Corinthians 8:16-9:5 let's ask the Lord to teach us how to wisely steward his resources for his glory.
In a massive blow to the administration's trade agenda, the Supreme Court ruled 6-3 on February 20, 2026, that President Trump exceeded his authority by using the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) to impose sweeping global tariffs. This decision effectively invalidates the "Liberation Day" reciprocal tariffs and raises immediate questions about billions of dollars in potential refunds for U.S. importers. In this episode, we dive into:The Ruling: Why Chief Justice Roberts and Trump-appointees Gorsuch and Barrett ruled that the power to tax belongs solely to Congress. The "Major Questions" Doctrine: How this judicial philosophy was used to curb a "transformative expansion" of executive power.Economic Impact: What the end of IEEPA tariffs means for inflation, supply chains, and your wallet. The Administration's Pivot: Analysis of the President's plan to use Section 122 as a "stopgap" to keep a 10% baseline tariff in place. The Refund Chaos: How businesses can navigate the complex process of recovering illegally collected duties.Key Fact: While the court struck down IEEPA-based tariffs, Section 232 tariffs on steel and aluminum remain in effect, as they are governed by a different statute.

The white Anglo-Saxon supremacy in Trumpland is so over the top that even child-of-Cuban-immigrants Marco Rubio claims America's common cultural heritage is European. But then with a schizophrenic touch, our secretary of state went on to endorse the reelection of Viktor Orban, who has decidedly turned Hungary away from Western democratic values. In response, some high-profile Democrats weighed in, including AOC from Munich. Plus, we are constantly reminded to not trust anything DHS says, the Dems should not agree to give one more penny to ICE, and Marco: The music of The Beatles and The Rolling Stones would not have existed without African American culture.Bill Kristol joins Tim Miller for the holiday pod.show notes Monday's "Morning Shots" Tickets are now on sale for our LIVE shows in Dallas on March 18 and in Austin on March 19. Scripture reminds us that leadership is never outside of God’s sovereign reach. Proverbs tells us that the king’s heart is in the Lord’s hand—that He directs it like a stream of water. No matter who holds office, God remains the ultimate authority. Praying for our president—whether we agree with every policy or not—is not optional for believers. It is a biblical calling. In 1 Timothy, Paul urges believers to pray for those in authority so that we may live peaceful and godly lives. Prayer is not about political preference; it is about spiritual obedience and national stewardship. When we pray for our president, we are acknowledging that wisdom, protection, discernment, and righteous leadership come from God alone. We are entrusting the future of our nation to the One who truly governs all things. Even when leadership decisions feel uncertain or troubling, prayer anchors our hearts in the truth that God is still at work. Presidents come and go. Administrations rise and fall. But the Lord remains faithful. As we lift our leaders before Him, we participate in God’s purposes for our country and the world. Prayer is not passive—it is powerful. May we be faithful to intercede, trusting that God hears and moves according to His perfect will. Main Takeaways God remains sovereign over all leaders and nations. Scripture calls believers to pray for those in authority. Prayer for leaders is an act of obedience, not political agreement. Interceding for our president invites God’s wisdom, protection, and guidance. Our ultimate trust rests in God, not in human leadership. Today’s Bible Verse “In the Lord’s hand the king’s heart is a stream of water that He channels toward all who please Him.” - Proverbs 21:1 Your Daily Prayer Prayer excerpt for listeners: “Father, guide our president according to Your will. The latest release of more than three million Epstein files has exposed the vast network of powerful and ultra-rich elites who were part of Jeffrey Epstein's social and business circle. This week, Alex speaks to journalist Kurt Andersen about the way people at the highest echelons of politics, business, academia, and beyond co-mingle. Then, she's joined by The Bulwark's Sarah Longwell to discuss whether or not this issue might finally bring about some political consequences for President Trump and his administration.
