This is a different kind of episode, introducing you to Aisha von Nahmmacher, who works with me on rooted healing and we, last minute as ever, decided to record a bonus episode of sorts in honour of the solstice and to mark our full cycle of work together.Aisha is a documentary producer currently delving into hidden ancestral practices in Britain and Ireland. She's also a yoga teacher who fuses the mycelial realm regularly into her work, and she was the curator of our gathering Forestlings, which was a joyous, playful exploration of autumns' delightful wisdom. So it goes without saying that Aisha is an avid plant + fungi medicine advocate who is also burrowing away to help Rooted Healing grow more roots. You may be hearing more from her as this new cycle of the podcast unfurls…We went on a meandering escapade through the landscapes of solstices, ancestral stones, ceremony and psilocybin. We spoke of going into the darkness at this potent time and so at the end of this episode we've woven in a beautiful song called Let the Light In by Bonnie Medicine from her new album Wide Open. Head to rootedhealing.org to explore our gatherings and upcoming online course ‘Deepen Your Roots'. The course begins on Imbolc so it could be a potent time to enrol now amidst the solstice, planting those intentions.Thank you Mike Howe and Chris Park for your music ongoing music contributions.Support the show

This episode focusses on the cultivation of belonging through bioregionalism, a life-way that Ben Stopford has explored on a deep level in North Wales. Ben is a facilitator, gardener and gatherer, offering the creation of wild-culture gardens and the pollination of foraging for food, medicine and connection to place. He holds a PGDip in Sustainable Food + Natural Resources and is the founder of Conscious Roots and co-founder of The Kingly Stag. Ben's group work stems from 'The Work That Reconnects' and contemporary Rites of Passage (vision quest), all guided by a deep-rooted, nature-based philosophy. This episode is seeded in the merging of our exciting, life-changing course 'Deepen Your Roots', which is a year-long slow-study weaving deep ecology, ‘the work that reconnects', and a folkloric, animistic exploration into the ecological self rewoven with place. It is a course to cultivate profound belonging and purpose.Next enrolment: Imbolc, February 1st, 2024 (we are offering a patron-exclusive discount).Learn more about Deepen Your RootsBecome a podcast patronExplore our 2024 gatheringsContact us or submit your musicFollow us on instagramMusic in this episode was by Mike Howe, Chris Park, Nathalie Nahai and Chiara Gilmore.Support the show
This week's show is with Chris Park. Chris Park is a founding member of the Beekeeping History Trust, a skep beekeeper, skep-maker, apitherapy student and a practicing Druid. Chris lives on an organic farm in the Vale of the White Horse, Oxfordshire, U.K. His work is wide and varied, from arts and crafts, ancient technologies, experimental archaeology and educational projects to eco-building, storytelling, folk music, mental health, apitherapy, and raising the awareness of the heritage of beekeeping. He is a practicing Druid of the Order of Bards, Ovates & Druids, being immersed and versed in the folklore and spiritual traditions rooted within the honeyed isles of Britain & Europe. In this conversation, Chris and I explored the old Irish triad of hearth as altar, work as worship, and service as sacrament, what each of them means to us both, and the invitation this triad provides to anyone, but perhaps especially those of us who are consciously working in some way in service to spirit. We'd love to know what YOU think about this week's show. Let's carry on the conversation… please leave a comment below or share in our fb group. What you'll learn from this episode: Hearth as altar: How can you pay attention, bring reverence, and allow your home to chart your relationship to spirit? Work as worship: Is your work worship? Is the way you be in your work worshipful? Service as sacrament: How are you of service in the wider world - to your land, your community of all beings - human and otherwise, the earth? How is your service an offering and receiving of divine grace? Sophie Strand is a writer based in the Hudson Valley who focuses on the intersection of spirituality, storytelling, and ecology. It would probably be more authentic to call her a neo-troubadour animist with a propensity to spin yarns that inevitably turn into love stories. Her first book of essays The Flowering Wand: Rewilding the Sacred Masculine invites masculine mythic and religious archetypes into more nuanced, complex ways of dealing with trauma, growth, and self-knowledge, rerooting them back into their original ecology.Sharing the culmination of eight years of research into myth, folklore, and the history of religion, Sophie leads us back into the forgotten landscapes and hidden secrets of familiar myths. Her eco-feminist historical fiction reimagining of the gospels The Madonna Secret will also be out this year. Her books of poetry include Love Song to a Blue God and Those Other Flowers to Come and The Approach. We talk about the renaissance of animism, rewilding our cycles and selves into the landscape, and redefining health or healing through the lens of chronic illness and ecology. We also touch on queer ecology and the context behind her wonderful books. Singer and song collector Sam Lee traces a map in stories, folklore and song along England's longest and most famous river, the Thames. Beginning at its underground source in the idyllic Gloucestershire countryside, Sam follows the Thames from a trickling stream to a majestic river carrying a myriad of human and animal lives. He witnesses its changes of mood and meaning as it squeezes through its busy, embanked, central London stretch searching for the soul of the river - the deep stories of its waters and banks. Through folklore, music, ecology and lives lived along 215 miles of water, Sam uncovers the past, present and future influence of the river's deep cultural roots. Who is fed and who is starved by the Thames now and what does it mean to the people who come under its influence? With storyteller, Druid and mead maker Chris Park at Thames Head, via author and land rights activist Nick Park on his houseboat in Oxfordshire, Debbie Leach of Thames 21 working to help communities reconnect with and clean up the river in London, retired Thames lighterman Dave Jessop and Sourav Niyogi who explains the river's significance to many in London's Hindu community, Sam explores a flow of ideas running from source to sea. Finally, with author Rachel Lichtenstein, he stands on Two Tree Island on the Essex shore of the Thames estuary and gazes out across the Thames's final incarnation, as a 5 mile wide delta mouth. We are a world away from the pure waters of the river's beginnings as Sam considers the ambiguous future of the Thames, its communities and the attention owed to it by the people who live along its banks. Christmas Day, 2006. Alfonso Cuaron's dystopian sci-fi thriller 'Children of Men' was released during the most wonderful time of the year. It's bleak look into a future where humans are unable to procreate due to a zero percent fertility rate won critics' favor, ending up in the Oscars race the following year. Considered one of the best films of the 00's, 'Children of Men' initial run couldn't find it's audience, mostly blamed on the nihilistic tones and lack of any real marketing campaign. This week, Blazo Comedy's very own Chris Park joins Liam to deep dive what has been called "The best movie covered on this podcast so far". The lads go into 'Children of Men' themes of fate, the 1992 novel and how it compares to it's feature film counterpart, John Lennon impersonations and Liam's inability to pronounce the casts' names correctly. This is a professional podcast for sure. ig: @bombedcast, @liam_wolfe_man Guest: @chrisparkcomedy
How can we embrace folklore wisdom traditions as life teachings and nourishing life strategies for the creation of a thriving world? In this special episode Amisha shares time with Chris Park, an active member of the order of ‘Bards, Ovates & Druids' for nearly 25 years, a prolific beekeeper, enthusiastic storyteller and folklore wisdom keeper. He lives on an organic farm, and as a druid priest, he has worked as celebrant and teacher with schools, wildlife trusts, local authorities, mental health projects, communities, families and more, aiming to strengthen our connections to the natural environment and each other whilst building knowledge, skills & thriving community. Chris hosts ceremonies and gatherings around the U.K. and within a sacred grove at home. Most recently he co-created a bee-themed podcast ‘Living Beeing' interviewing artists, musicians, bee-scientists, beekeepers and apitherapists together with friends Verity Sharp and Patrick Randall. Chris takes us on an insightful journey into the nature-based spirituality of Druidry, a tradition that survives in folklore and the stories of our landscapes, and evolves with generations. Being a priest and active member of Bards, Ovates and Druids' has inspired Chris' unique lifestyle and enables him to share inspiring creative strategies for creating thriving communities living in reciprocity with our natural world. Chris shares a flow of folk tales, song and mythologies taking us into ‘the other world', the imaginary realm, where we experience magic, symbolism, mischief and exceptional power reminding us of the rich tapestry of life. Every traditional folk tale gives great traction into the natural world with themes, mottos and symbolism, trees, plants and animals, stars, rocks and spirits of nature. He believes such stories can be cathartic and restore our separated sense of connection to the natural world, to oneself and one's ancestry and bring forth a sense of well-being and belonging. Together they explore his work as a sustainable beekeeper and apitherapist. Chris shares that bees are ancient teachers reminding us of the cycles of life and the interconnectedness of our world with nature. In exchange for keeping them well and thriving, we receive their medicines of honey, pollen propolis, royal jelly from time to time, bee venom, wax and beehive air. We learn that putting down roots and drawing closer circles around our communities inspires a village sufficiency that is vital for our greater communities to thrive and keep on growing. And if we are not growing, then we must start growing food or plants or gardens, as they will bring us happiness. Links from this episode and more at www.thefutureisbeautiful.co

In this episode of the Hacker Valley Studio podcast, Ron and Chris are joined by co-founders of Material Security, Ryan Noon and Abhishek Agrawal. They co-founded Material Security in 2017, today Ryan serves as the CEO, and Abhishek the CTO. Abishek has a background in engineering, infrastructure and analytics and his MBA from Harvard. Ryan’s background is in engineering and data analysis, and holds multiple computer science and security degrees from Stanford. Before they moved on to creating their own company, they worked together at DropBox.While they both have a strong engineering background, they are developing a security product. Ryan explains that coding and engineering is why he’s able to work in cyber security, all his years of engineering helped him make a reliable and effective product. Abhishek agrees that both their different backgrounds have carried over into the security industry and says the lessons he learned in productivity and engineering have been incredibly useful. Despite these diverse backgrounds, Ryan says going into security was an easy decision. “Go to where the problems are,” he says. Around the time of the founding of Material Security, there were a lot of problems with email. Abhishek agrees, and says he’s always been interested in email and how it’s being destroyed by threats. When hackers access your email, what are they looking for? Abhishek explains that they may be downloading all of its contents, or resetting passwords to services like Twitter or Instagram. Material Security works to ask those questions and stop the effectiveness of a breach in email security. This shifts the focus from all the ways someone may hack you, to the implications of that hack. Ryan likens it to a burglary, explaining that their security is less about all the doors and windows - ways to get into your home - but rather what someone may want once they’re inside. There is a lot of hand wringing in startup land, Ryan says, but there is no one right way to do it. The startup can burn you out, and what made Material Security’s leadership work was the reliance on each other, both he and Abhishek and their third co-founder, Chris Park. For them, this was the magic answer, having a third person gives them a tie breaker and someone who could cut through the noise with clarity. Abhishek agrees, joking that they compliment each other by Ryan giving long detailed answers, and Abhishek can summarize his thoughts. In all seriousness, this balance of responsibility and strengths requires a level of trust and lack of ego but makes the team work smoothly. Having unique skill sets is important, but Abhishek explains overlap is important as well because you can speak the same language and push each other for the best solutions. When you come from similar backgrounds, no one is the authority and ideas get pressure tested. One of the challenges is using this overlap of skills for good - not letting it paralyze you. Another challenge they faced is knowing where to question and press industry standards, versus where to accept and excel at current practices. When thinking over their challenges and journey they offer some advice to new founders. Ryan stresses, “stop trying to get into things.” People can fall into the trap of trying to get into college, programs, and industries, and end up giving up some of their productivity and creativity to others. He also encourages people to know their partners and communicate with them about everything. Abhishek says people should divorce the idea of leaving their job from starting a company. Instead you should decide if you’re ready to leave your current job and then if you want to go to a new company or start your own. 0:00 - Intro1:40 - Listeners are introduced to co-founders of Material Security and the episode ahead.3:05 - Ryan and Abhishek introduce themselves. 5:38 - How do engineering and cyber security intersect?8:39 - Why did Ryan and Abhishek decide to go into security?14:28 - Ryan and Abhishek explain what hackers do when they’ve gotten into email.18:08 - How do Ryan and Abhishek navigate their relationship?24:19 - Ron asks Ryan and Abhishek about the challenges of the founder’s journey.26:45 - What piece of advice do they have for new founders? October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, so in this episode, Dr. Christopher Park and Dr. Ryan Rebowe wanted to discuss breast reconstruction and all of the options available to their patients. Dr. Park lays out the five general categories for breast reconstruction. Dr. Rebowe explains microsurgical options and why both doctors are excited about this procedure. And lastly, Kim Anderson asks about insurance coverage for breast reconstruction and who is the best candidates for this common procedure. Need a consultation with Dr. Park or Dr. Rebowe? Click here or call 251.445.8888 Key Takeaways There are many options for breast reconstruction after a cancer diagnosis, surgery, and treatment. Dr. Park and Dr. Rebowe are focused on doing breast reconstruction and all other cancer reconstruction procedures. If there is something that's bothering you, after being treated for breast cancer, no matter what it is about the way you look or feel. Breast reconstruction can help your confidence, self-esteem, and overall quality of life. There are five general categories for breast reconstruction options. Ask your Plastic Surgeon about Microsurgical Breast Reconstruction as it may be an option for you. Sponsor The Park Clinic in Mobile, Alabama The Docs Said: Dr. Park and I are expanding the gulf coast reconstruction focus a bit more on microsurgical reconstruction, especially of the breast. - Dr. Ryan Rebowe Dr. Park and I both love doing reconstructive surgery of all kinds. - Dr. Ryan Rebowe We both focus on cancer reconstruction, especially breast cancer, but we love doing all kinds of reconstruction. - Dr. Ryan Rebowe Abdominally based breast reconstruction takes tissue from their abdomen and transfer it to their chest and make them a new breast out of their abdominal tissue. It's the tissue that we would typically throw away during a tummy tuck. - Dr. Ryan Rebowe Microsurgical Breast Reconstruction has an easier recovery for the patient because we're using the microsurgery to disconnect and reconnect the tissue. We do not have to disrupt the muscle. - Dr. Chris Park There are two basic ways to reconstruct breasts, and one is with a tissue expander and implant the others is with your tissue or what we call autologous tissue. In terms of microsurgical breast reconstruction, you can take fat from a lot of different areas. - Dr. Chris Park The fat from your abdomen matches the feel of a breast a lot better than your buttock tissue. Buttock tissue is very hard and almost brick-like in some women. - Dr. Ryan Rebowe Some women are candidates for breast implants after breast-conserving therapy. - Dr. Ryan Rebowe It's easier to get coverage after a mastectomy for both breasts. It is more difficult and not a guarantee that insurance will cover it after a partial breast procedure. It can be done, but it's not automatic. - Dr. Chris Park

In this episode, Host Kym Anderson and Dr. Chris Park talk about the most popular and most frequently asked about procedures at The Park Clinic: breast augmentation, implants, reductions, and lifts. Dr. Park explains the types of breast procedures, typical recovery times, determining the right size, and all the improvements and differences between the newer implants and those that were available in the 1980s and '90s. Ep.3 - Big Questions 1. How do the doctor and patient determine the right breast size or reduction? 2. What are the options in the types of implants? 3. When does insurance cover breast augmentation, implants, or reduction? 4. Do men get "boob" jobs? 5. What should be the overall goal/outcome of breast augmentation and plastic surgery? 6. What's a breast lift? 7. How often does Dr. Park perform this type of surgery? 8. How long will I be out of work after my breast reconstruction, implant, or reduction surgery? 9. Are implants a one size fits all decision and operation? 10. What should the patient expect at the first consultation with their surgeon? Need A Consultation or Appointment with Dr. Park? To set up an appointment with The Park Clinic staff call 251.445.8888 or click here >>> Please Plastikos on Facebook Dr. Parks Says: I do everything all over the body, but I spend more than half my life on the breast. - Dr. Chris Park There's cosmetic breast surgery, implants, and lifts. There are the breast reductions which can be considered medically necessary, and sometimes covered by insurance, and then you have breast reconstruction after cancer in women. And then there's even male breast surgery. - Dr. Chris Park We have better implants than we've ever had in the last ten years or so and have numerous sizes, shapes, profiles, different textures. It's incredible what we have and how we can even customize. That's why it's not a one-size-fits-all breast implant. - Dr. Chris Park The long and short of it is silicone implants feel better than saline. - Dr. Chris Park I'm going to make a range of recommendations that are all going to look good. I'm not going to pick one that's ever going to be too small or way too big, and patients can choose their own flavor. - Dr. Chris Park I'm not going to do something that just destroys the tissues and the skin. - Dr. Chris Park My goal is to make you happy, so the first thing I do is listen because I'm not trying to make breasts that I'm going to like the way they look. - Dr. Chris Park Most people are off pain medicine in two or three days, and getting back to normal and we ask you not to lift anything heavier than 10 pounds for two weeks. - Dr. Chris Park The beauty of a breast reduction is it's a breast lift as well, so if a woman happens to have a large enough breast, then we can do a breast reduction with a breast lift. - Dr. Chris Park We're not removing the breast. It's not like a cancer operation. Our goal is to make a prettier breast as well, with a more controllable size. - Dr. Chris Park A breast lift tightens everything up and puts the nipple where it's supposed to be. - Dr. Chris Park A reduction would be removing volume, and then implants can be adding volume, but the volume we add with an implant is usually in the upper portion of the breast. - Dr. Chris Park There are patients out there that need a breast reduction and an implant. - Dr. Chris Park Certain patients need a breast reduction, and they get approved by insurance very often, and then certain patients don't meet the insurance criteria, but they still get the benefit of the relief. - Dr. Chris Park Breast implants, unless you've had a mastectomy for medically-necessary reasons such as cancer, is rarely covered by insurance. - Dr. Chris Park
In this episode, Kym Anderson and Dr. Chris Park discuss some of the most popular procedures in plastic surgery: liposuction, tummy tucks, and fat grafting. Dr. Park explains the different procedures, typical recovery time, and the considerations that need to be addressed before any surgery. Kym brings up some common misconceptions on removing and injecting fat cells and gaining weight after liposuction. Plus, Dr. Park shares his thoughts on finding the right plastic surgeon, teens wanting plastic surgery, and the characteristics of an ideal patient. Ep.2 - Big Questions 1. What is a Brazillian Butt Lift? 2. What is liposuction? 3. Is it common to gain weight after having liposuction? 4. Do men ever get liposuction? 5. What's the best way to keep my flat tummy after my surgery? 6. What are fat grafting and fat injections? 7. When does insurance cover liposuction? 8. What is the importance of choosing a board-certified plastic surgeon physician? 9. Is there a too old and too young for surgery? 10. Is financing available for plastic surgery and other cosmetic procedures? Need A Consultation or Appointment with Dr. Park? To set up an appointment with The Park Clinic staff call 251.445.8888 or click here >>> Please Plastikos on Facebook Dr. Park Says: Most people have their own spectrum; you're not going to achieve something extreme without doing something extreme. - Dr. Chris Park The best patient is already pretty healthy, already paying attention to their body. They're not just coming in expecting surgery to fix everything. - Dr. Chris Park The Brazilian buttock lift is when you take fat from elsewhere and inject it into the buttock. You sculpt the hips, the waist, the abdomen, and then you are making the buttock larger. But it's the combination makes for the dramatic change. - Dr. Chris Park When you do liposuction in an area, you are removing fat cells. Nobody gains weight in other areas because we did liposuction. - Dr. Chris Park If your problem area has always been your stomach, and you come in for liposuction, and we make your stomach look so much better, a lot of those patients may not keep dieting and exercising because their area looks good. But, then they will gain that 10 pounds, but instead of one and a half of it go into their abdomen, all of it goes elsewhere. - Dr. Chris Park Fat grafting has exploded in the last 20, 30 years. - Dr. Chris Park Essentially injecting fat, we're pulling fat bulbs out of a patient, like tulip bulbs, and you're planting them back somewhere else. - Dr. Chris Park At a minimum, you look better where we took the fat from, and then the fat is just adding it somewhere else. - Dr. Chris Park Probably half of the work I do is insurance related, but it's not usually the stuff that everyone wants to talk about. - Dr. Chris Park While board certified is just a term, and every medical specialty has that, plastic surgery, the American Board of Plastic Surgery, really takes it upon themselves to look out for the safety and the reputation of plastic surgery in general. - Dr. Chris Park Just because a physician says "I do plastic surgery or fat grafting" or whatever, it doesn't mean that they are a plastic surgeon. - Dr. Chris Park I'm here to keep people safe and treat people the way that I would want my own family members treated. - Dr. Chris Park My clinic, it's not Hollywood, we're here to help people. And so, there is really no age limit as long as you have an ethical and caring surgeon who's not just trying to run a business. - Dr. Chris Park
Plastikos is an informative and fun plastic surgery podcast that candidly and clearly discusses everything that you've always wanted to know about Reconstructive and Cosmetic Surgery and Medicine. In this first episode, host Kym Anderson talks with Plastic Surgeon Dr. Christopher Park about his family, career, and passion for his practice. Dr. Park walks us through his family life and full medical career from his calling to medical school to his current position of Plastic Surgeon at The Park Clinic in Mobile, Alabama. So, I'm hoping that this podcast helps people easily hear some answers and discuss it. - Dr. Chris Park I like to address multiple things at once and combining recovery. It just gives you more ability to have that patient see a dramatic change when it's done. - Dr. Chris Park Most commonly, a Mommy Makeover is a breast lift with or without implants and a tummy tuck and liposuction, in general. - Dr. Chris Park My practice is not the Hollywood type of dramatic eye-change. I mean, we're looking to make people happy with their body again and live a normal life. - Dr. Chris Park Men want to look great too. - Kym Anderson Medspa is everything in my practice that is non-surgical. It embodies the things that I do outside of Surgery that are a treatment. There's a lot of injectables and lasers and devices and facials and products and all sorts of things, and it's inside the practice. - Dr. Chris Park

He said there are a number of genetic mutations that increase the risk of obesity, and the majority is located somewhere in the brain.Andrews said it is a control issue, but it&`&s not a willful conscious decision, because in obesity, the brain doesn&`&t perceive information correctly from the body. His focus was on brain cells responsible for sensing hunger that also influenced motivation and reward.Early results indicated that the brains of obese people were not sending messages to tell the body that they already have enough energy stored.Andrews&`& team has identified that part of the problem could form while the brain pathways are forming during childhood, with children who are rewarded for good behavior with sweet treats, forming an association between sugar and feeling good. You&`&re listening to Special English. It was arranged at the last minute, they are a full, four-piece rock band, their profile is riding relatively high at the moment and I'd never really recorded anything so loud in our house before. As it was, it turned out pretty fucking well, if you ask me, so when PAWS came in I was confident enough that we'd get decent recordings, but I have to confess I was a little nervous about how we'd get away with the racket and the general lawlessness of their performances. There were some changes to the team this time as well, as a lot of the usual suspects couldn't make it. Wee Matthew was helping out on cameras again, and Rory from Broken Records was back for a second batch of filming. But we also managed to coax former ace Edinburgh gig photographer extraordinaire Nic Rue out of retirement to take the pictures, and Rory 'brought at friend' to help out with the filming. And his friend just happened to be Chris Park. Who just happens to be a serious professional. So if you're wondering why this isn't as shit as usual, that's probably why. As per usual, all the session mp3s are available to download for free, either below or in this zip file, we have videos of the songs and of the interview here, photos here, Nic's slightly larger portfolio of pics here, and of course the interview podcast below, with the playlist at the bottom of the page.
