You really think this guy gets a job 40 days before the assassination, moving to Dallas from New Orleans and just happens to work in a high rise building right at the end of the motorcade rout that had an empty (meaning no people) room on the top floor? You'd have to say one of 3 things. Either he was part of a plan, was extremely well handled, or was a super rare coincidence.Think about it, a covert asset of ONI and CIA who could speak Russian and was certainly not lacking intelligence, moves to a new city to get a minimum wage job moving books. And then as testified by Roselli, he was shot so as to silence him.Remember what Hoover wrote Nov 24th 1963Why say the Real Assassin?”It is nteresting because Nick Katzenbach who Hoover is referring to, himself wrote the next day in a memo to Bill Moyer “THE PUBLIC MUST BE SATISFIED THAT OSWALD WAS THE ASSASSIN; THAT HE HAD NO CONFEDERATES WHO ARE STILL AT LARGE; AND THAT EVIDENCE WAS SUCH THAT HE WOULD HAVE BEEN CONVICTED AT TRIAL.””Jack Ruby, also a Jew, even told the warren commission he had to do it “because of his Jewish faith”and what was he talking about when he told Earl Warren“Unfortunately, Chief Earl Warren, had you been around 5 or 6 months ago, and I know your hands were tied, you couldn't do it, and immediately the President would have gotten a hold of my true story, or whatever would have been said about me, a certain organization wouldn't have so completely formed now, so powerfully, to use me because I am of the Jewish extraction, Jewish faith, to commit the most dastardly crime that has ever been committed. Can you understand now in visualizing what happened, what powers, what momentum has been carried on to create this feeling of mass feeling against my people, against certain people that were against them prior to their power?” That goes over your head doesn't it.…I want to say this to you. The Jewish people are being exterminated at this moment. Consequently, a whole new form of government is going to take over our country, and I know I won't live to see you another time. Do I sound sort of screwy–in telling you these things?… All I know is maybe something can be saved. Because right now, I want to tell you this, I am used as a scapegoat, and there is no greater weapon that you can use to create some falsehood about some of the Jewish faith, especially at the terrible heinous crime such as the killing of President Kennedy….Now maybe something can be saved. It may not be too late, whatever happens, if our President, Lyndon Johnson, knew the truth from me. But if I am eliminated, there won't be any way of knowing. Right now, when I leave your presence now, I am the only one that can bring out the truth to our President, who believes in righteousness and justice.”Note that later while talking to the press that Jack Ruby says the Truth may never come above board and that it goes all the way to the top. If LBJ isn't in the loop and at the top as it were, then who is he talking about?“But he has been told, I am certain, that I was part of a plot to assassinate the President…. I am sorry, Chief Justice Warren, I thought I would be very effective in telling you what I have said here. But in all fairness to everyone, maybe all I want to do is beg that if they found out I was telling the truth, maybe they can succeed in what their motives are, but maybe my people won't be tortured and mutilated. ….No; the only way you can do it is if he knows the truth, that I am telling the truth, and why I was down in that basement Sunday morning, and maybe some sense of decency will come out and they can still fulfill their plan, as I stated before, without my people going through torture and mutilation. …But I won't be around, Chief Justice. I won't be around to verify these things you are going to tell the President. … I have been used for a purpose, and there will be a certain tragic occurrence happening if you don't take my testimony and somehow vindicate me so my people don't suffer because of what I have done. …All I want is a lie detector test, and you refuse to give it to me. Because as it stands now—and the truth serum, and any other–Pentothal–how do you pronounce it, whatever it is. And they will not give it to me, because I want to tell the truth. And then I want to leave this world. But I don't want my people to be blamed for something that is untrue, that they claim has happened. “It seems that Jack Ruby is paranoid that the president has been told already that he was party of a plot to kill the president that that “his people” meaning Jewish people or the Israeli state was behind it. Israel had several motives to want both JFK and RFK dead. It was in their eye a matter of survival.1 The Kennedys want Israel inspected for nuclear weapons. RFK also had information and testing done around Dimona showing the Uranium there had come from the US's Nautilus project, since it was the only uranium in the world enriched to that high a % at that point in time. It was all over the area.2 The Kennedys supported Palestinians right of Return.3 They wanted Israel's foreign lobbies to register as foreign agents4 JFK along with France's Charles de Gaulle who also survived an assassination attempt, supported Algeria independence. The John Birch Society, who Ruby tries to paint a picture of as all powerful, didn't kill the President. As much as big oil was tied to LBJ, and Texas oil man David Harold Byrd owning the building where Lee Harvey Oswald worked, they didn't control Jack Ruby nor did they gain anything worth the risk when RFK was assassinated in California. Guys like David Ferrie and Jacob Rubenstein were working for the Mafia. And the Mafia lost a billion dollars in revenue when Castro shut down the casinos. They had every reason to work with the CIA when they came knocking and they did, and the CIA had every reason to seek plausible deniability that the mafia provided for a variety of illegal activities, from narcotic and gun running to assassination. The CIA's Victor Marchetti testified that Ferrie worked for the CIA.Jack Ruby was a central mafia figure and knew almost every cop in Dallas. He also went the Cuba and even rode with FBN agents to the airport. So was Oswald's childhood friend and fellow closet f****t Efraim Sullivan, who became a chief of police in Louisiana and got 4 cops killed as well as 5 civilians all in one shooting. According to his son he work for the Mossad. These southern mafia heads guys were bragging about JFK AND Robert getting killed before both happened. The Kennedys demanded the ZAC/ZOA/AIPAC register as a foreign agent. RFK issued them a moratorium with 72 hrs to comply in November of 63. The PM resigned over it to stall for time and Kennedy was killed the same month. The mafia was the CIA's plausible deniability and ground distribution network for narcotics which is how they were covertly financing anti communist resistance in Cuba, China, and USSR. Vietnam's opium was a natural market move as Europe was recovered from WWII. RFK was prosecuting the same mob leaders who the CIA was secretly working with to sell drugs and even attempt to assassinate Castro. Think back to the CIA's earliest operations in the Middle East, operation Ajax and the Suez Crisis, which was itself the product of a botched 1956 Israel false flag operation, Operation Suzanna, now commonly called the Lavon Affair. As a Senator, Johnson blocked the Eisenhower administration's attempts to apply sanctions against Israel following the 1956 Sinai Campaign. Who did these CIA operation in Iran and Egypt really benefit? Not the United States. But of course both Dulles brothers were hardcore Zionists. Bobby was killed on the first anniversary of the six day war and set up a Palestinian. Now who would want to do that? The plan was to replace him with Katzenbach, which LBJ did. And none of it could move until JFK was out of the way. The mob lost a billion dollars a year in gambling revenue when Castro shut down casinos. Hoffa using teamster pension funds to create Las Vegas as the new Cuba was in reaction to this. These are the guys who end up in a series of murders for or before finishing testimony to the House Committee on assassination. Giancana had been Ruby's boss. Trafficante had him killed. The Jewish finger prints are all over both assassinations. Johnson's domestic and foreign policies on Cuba on Russia on Vietnam didn't really change. Kennedy was not getting out of Vietnam. This is wishful thinking on par with the fools who thought Obama was going to be an antiwar president. JFK had already procured 6 billion dollars, most of it left over from Eisenhower who had had enough of the MIC, to spent on the F111 fighter jet. Oh it is interesting that the Crown family benefited when Johnson lobbied to have the contract go to General Dynamics. They also married into the family who owned the hotel where Bobby was shot and allowed Jewish mobsters to use it for gambling operations. It was Henry Crown's personal lawyer Albert E Jenner, who was appointed by Johnson and to be part of the Warren Commission whitewash, was hired to look into the backgrounds of the two most important individuals, Lee Harvey Oswald and Jack Ruby. Of course he found no intelligence ties or mob ties. Jenner was also a director for general Dynamics. Reading the biographies given for these men by the WC and comparing them to the mountains of information we have now is enough to make even the most crooked lawyer blush. Jack Ruby's first jail visitor was the mob boss of Dallas. The only dramatic changes under LBJ were on his Middle East policy. He had Americans killed! About the USS Liberty which the Israelis attacked in the Six Day War, LBJ told Admiral Lawrence Geis “I dont care if that ship sinks to the bottom of the ocean.” LBJ stacked his admin with Zionists and the US has never recovered. Israel kept it nukes, Palestinians never got right of return, (it was never even brought up again) the lobbies never registered as foreign agents, and America as subsidized the racist apartheid state with billions every year from then to now. Of Course Johnson didn't want the ZOA (Zionist Organization of America) to be registered as a foreign lobby. His aunt, Jessie Johnson was on it! Few people know that according to Jewish law, LBJ was himself Jewish. His mother was Rebekah Baines, thus Johnson's middle name. She was Jewish. Her mother was Ruth Ament Huffman, and her mother was Mary Elizabeth Perrin all of whom were Jewish. Perrin's husband was John S. Huffman whose mother was Suzanne Ament, thus Ruth's Middle name. Ament was a German Jew. The Huffman's settled in Fredrick Maryland and from there went to Kentucky and finally Texas. The Jewish times brags ” The line of Jewish mothers can be traced back three generations in Lyndon Johnson's family tree. There is little doubt that he was Jewish.” Regardless there is no doubt that LBJ was a Zionist and put Israel's needs first. Writing that list would take a long time.On November 21, 1963, a government informant named Thomas Mosley was negotiating the sale of machine guns to a Cuban exile named Echevarria. In the course of the transaction, Echevarria said that “we now have plenty of money – our new backers are Jews” and would close the arms deal “as soon as we [or they] take care of Kennedy.” The next day, Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas. You wont see that in Oliver Stone's film on JFK of course the Executive producer of that film was Arnon Milchan, Israel's largest arms dealer. It is unfortunate but many laymen JFK researcher use that film as their initiation.Echevarria's words are often associated with the Mocone -Rowley memo. CD 498 [Rowley memorandum| which does reference it. It goes on to explain how the conversation was interrupted by other bus drivers. The follow up interview with the informant is of course classified.Furthermore this adds. “I further told Mr Johnson that the informant had worked with us in a recent counterfeiting Case and had proved to be reliable.”However the primary source is a Secret Service ReportSpecial Agent Joseph E Noonan. What is the Jewish (mafia/state) doing mixed up with anti-Castro Cuban exiles who were illegally buying arms? And why isn't this pre Kennedy assassination foreknowledge more well known? Oh but you see it is, only the Jews part is usually removed. I don't think researchers should omit this just to be Politically Correct. The international angle and Johnson's deep ties with Israel and Israel's motives to kill not only JFK but RFK as well, is seldom explored. Stone's movie doesn't even mention middle eastern policy or Israel and instead focuses on the Bay of Pigs and Vietnam. I think enough eyeballs have been over every inch of those theories for over 5 decades. I have a working theory that cleanly ties both assassinations together. But I am censored on everything. How Israel stole the bomb and killed JFKI need you to subscribe, it is just $6 a month less if you sign up for a year. This is a public episode.   US Election comments Listerner questions answered Mike Benz on the Tucker Carlson show Watch Here Donald Trump won the 2024 US Presidential election! Will the perturbed liberal celebrities actually move out of the United States now, or just blowing wind? Trump received help from Joe Rogan, Carlson Tucker, Elon Musk, Megyn Kelly & others. The FBI had many agent provocateurs in the crowd, dressed as Trump supporters, egging people on. The media has constantly attacked Trump, ignoring his accomplishments. What has Kamala done? People would have voted for Trump simply because they didn't want Kamala as their representative. Jim feels Biden's foreign policies were very bad, he's pretty close to being a Neo Con. Biden refused to negotiate on the situation in Ukraine. Why would Boris Johnson travel to Ukraine & have Zelenskyy cancel the Peace Treaty? Over $100 billion has been spent on the Ukraine war at this point without a Peace Treaty. Why? Jim listens to Scott Ritter & Colonel Douglas MacGregor, both are on Twitter/X. Len listens to US Economist Jeffrey Sachs & Mike Benz, former State Department whistleblower. Len explains the goal of Ukraine supporters to bankrupt Russia, pulling Russia into unnecessary war. FK threatened to "pull the plug" when there wasn't even a war going on to stop the Dimona project. Biden hasn't protested Israel's targeted genocide against Palestine, Jim feels Biden has been a failure in Israel & the Middle East, continuing to fund illegal wars. Israel has now expanded their war into Lebanon & Iran. Hezbollah has over 100,000 troops that are highly organized & they've stymied Israel's advance. Jim feels Trump doesn't know what he's talking about most of the time & runs off at the mouth. Trump makes inaccurate claims at time, his understanding of events & history is often wrong. Iran started to build their missile arsenal after being attacked by Iraq in the 1980's. JFK would say "we can compete with the Russians, we don't have to be enemies with everyone". Iran has 15,000 missiles! They are set to buy the latest generation fighter jet from Russia! Russia & China have both helped Iran build up their military & arsenal. Israel's F35 attack against Iran didn't go so well with Iran having fantastic radar & military. Israel is now fighting Hamas, Hezbol'ah & Iran. Can Israel win on all three fronts? Bill Clinton was sent to Michigan for the election, expressing his anti-Palestine views. Clinton was shut down when it was pointed out Israel had recently murdered 43,000 Palestine natives. Kamala Harris ended up losing Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania destroying the 'Blue Wall'. Kamala had the Clintons, the Obamas & celebrities going around the country to rally & she still lost. Jim feels Bernie Sanders would have beat Trump in 2016 if he had run instead of Hillary Clinton. A book should be written about everything that has happened to RJK Jr. over the past four years. Jim's protest vote went to Jill Stein, the Green Party's 2024 presidential nominee.

Recently, Brigadier General Ebrahim Rostami of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed that Iran possesses a secret weapon more powerful than nuclear arms and reaffirmed the country's readiness to strike Israel's Dimona nuclear reactor. He hinted at highly classified weapons, unknown even to some Iranian officials, and warned of a “big surprise” for Israel that would be revealed at the “zero hour.”This echoes a 2012 interview Rick Wiles did with an anonymous man using the pen name VS Marlow, who claimed to be a former high-level U.S. State Department diplomat. Marlow spoke of a mysterious manuscript given to him in the Middle East about an ancient treasure, an energy-rich ruby in Iran, believed to be a key to a weapon more powerful than nuclear warheads. According to this account, Israel's desire for war with Iran was linked to seizing this ruby. After the war, a charismatic Islamic leader would allegedly emerge, aiming to unite world religions and bring peace. While Marlow's story was viewed skeptically, the recent developments with Iran have revived interest in such theories.Rick Wiles, V.S. Marlow. Israels zweite Front gegen den Libanon | Von Jochen Mitschka

apolut: Standpunkte

How to find your place and keep up to your promise, as a 22-years-old woman founder?    Imagine taking the bus from Dimona, dreaming about helping people and establishing your own startup at the age of 22. That's May's story. A Cinderella one - and it ain't no easy to keep up the high expectations when everyone is watching.    May cut her hair and donated it when she was 13. That's how early she understood that she's gonna do things that not everyone will understand.  In her youth - she joined @First - an organization that promotes tech, science and social entrepreneurship, shortly after that - she led the whole operation in Israel with more than 10 millions volunteers.   She opened her 1st business when she was a teenager - an e-commerce platform for bathing suits, and a 2nd business for website creation within 24 hours - just after the army service.   So beyond the impact @Vee brings into this world - May, as its co-founder and CEO, needs to hold it all together at a very young age, and miss important milestones of her likewise friends. To do so, therapy and supporting surroundings is a must for her.   May shares how difficult it is sometimes to stand in front of investors or talents that don't believe that you can make it, and that you've got what it takes.  She speaks openly about her lack of managerial experience and decision making, how overwhelming it can be, and what she does in order to overcome those challenges.    Not being ashamed and believing in yourself is a must, so that when investors want to replace her - she simply asks - WHY? Having strong, experienced and supporting co-founders, makes it all much more possible.  When she started - she didn't even speak English, and now - there are so many people that want her to win. All together - it's not easy to live up to these expectations.    As all CEOs understand early down the road - in the good times - everyone is with you, but in the hard times - you are on your own. And it's a very lonely place to be in. May understands many life truths in a very early stage - for example, that it's OK not to be OK. She's afraid to fail all the people that put their trust in her - so she is keeping a very practical mode.   May's family has been through a lot. It's part of what makes her determined to succeed. Earlier this year, when she participated in a panel in the @Peres Center for Peace and Innovation - her parents and friends were in the audience - that's where she felt her worlds merged together - family, friends & Vee.    May has a very strong sense of people - or in her own words - “Moroccan sense” - to see people's authentic intentions. It's a very strong virtue that guides her in business.    She also understands the power of being a young CEO - as you understand inside-out your target audience.    May recently came back from the @WEACT delegation to @Silicon Valley, organized by @Darya Henning Shaked, and many more good things that we will hear about soon - are on the way.   So is it a Cinderella story? I don't think there is a specific time-sensitive or financial milestone that will confirm or deny it - seeing May's passion, commitment and efforts to succeed, grow Vee and bring value - is inspiring. She definitely has what it takes.

We speak to Palestine’s ambassador to the UK, Husam Zomlot. He discusses the importance of Nakba Day, where 750,000 Palestinians were violently displaced as Israel was created, the link between Nakba Day and Sheikh Jarrah, the arguable failure of the Palestinian Authority to protect Palestinians from Israeli airstrikes and occupation, the growing unity of Hamas and the PA against the occupation, the need for the Palestinian resistance to go ‘all the way’ and end what he calls Israeli apartheid and supremacy, why he believes trying to defeat Israel’s occupation militarily will not work. Finally, we speak to the Jerusalem Post’s Yonah Jeremy Bob. Afshin Rattansi challenges him on Israel’s airstrikes on Gaza which have killed scores of civilians including children, allegations from human rights organisations that Israel is an apartheid state, the ongoing expansion of illegal settlements, why Hamas is better able to penetrate the Iron Dome missile defence system, attacks targeting the Dimona nuclear facility and Israel’s nuclear program and much more!

Prince Immanuel Ben-Yehuda, the spokesman for the African Hebrew Israelites, said the Israeli Interior Ministry had given notice to at least 46 families, saying they must leave the country within 60 days, calling it a “shock to the system.”Black Hebrews are a spiritual community of African-Americans who identify as descendants of an ancient Jewish tribe and view Israel as their ancestral homeland. With around 2,500-3,000 members, most of them live in the southern desert town of Dimona. The community was founded by Ben Carter, a Chicago steelworker who renamed himself Ben Ammi Ben Israel after moving to Israel along with 30 of his followers in 1969. They were able to settle in the country as the Israeli Law of Return grants automatic citizenship to Jews who settle on historically Palestinian lands. In 1973, Black Hebrew Israelites were denied Israeli citizenship as Israel concluded that they are not ethnically Jewish, but were given temporary residency status, because of the pressure from US Congress in the early 1990s, according some information.“For quite some time, we've had a number of members of the community with different levels of immigration status, some of us have full citizenship, some taken permanent residency, some have temporary residency, and some have no status whatsoever,” said Ben-Yehuda. But Israel says it gave residency status to around 1,200 and claims those whose applications were rejected were not members of the community. “All those who were not included in the list of community members and didn't meet the criteria received a negative reply and in effect are residing illegally in Israel for a long period and must leave according to the law,” Israel's Population and Immigration Authority said in a statement. Right-wing and ultra-Orthodox jews have been advising the Israeli government to expel African migrants to protect the Jewish identity of Israel . in addition, Benjamin Netanyahu in 2018 had called the new African migrants' presence a threat to Israel's social fabric and Jewish character, however, he proposed to pay thousands of African migrants living illegally in the country to leave, threatening them with jail if they are caught after the end of March.

Atak oznacza znalezienie luki w izraelskim systemie bezpieczeństwa. Iran zaczyna wracać do międzynarodowej gry. Shema Yisrael with Dr Y'Shua Yisrael THE CONTENT OF THE THIRD BBS RADIO BROADCAST by Dr. Y’shua Yisrael Accepting the yoke of the Kingdom of heaven implies a comprehensive grasp of the implications of the first commandment given at Mount Sinai in Exodus 20:2. When the first mitzvah is accepted, and the sovereignty of God’s Oneness is proclaimed (Deuteronomy 6:4) a sequence of primal spiritual letters that reverberate with the universe are released. The words, “Shema Yisrael Hashem Eloheinu Hashem Echad” initiate a heavenly reverberation of spiritual light that proclaims God kingship eternally. In addition, the words: Ve-a-hav-ta eit Adonai e-lo-he-cha b-chol le-va-ve-cah, u-ve-chol naf-she-cha, u-ve chol me-o-de cha” elevates the level of the heart, and repeated recitation conditions the nervous system to experience ecstatic conductivity, the nervous system maintains the all-time awareness of God consciousness. This is the prophetic final redemption when the dormant seed of Abraham will be in-gathered. The lost sheep of the House of Israel are being awakened and summoned to the House of the LORD. The Mashiach is coming! Therefore, ten men from every nation and tongue will seek out and gravitate to the Yahadut. (Zachariah 8:23). The remaining broadcast reviews of the proliferation of Black Hebrew groups in the United States. There is a strong conviction in the African American population of having Israelite ancestry. Throughout my childhood and during my travels in the developing world I have encountered this remnant of Israel. Her in America F.S. Cherry begin his outreach to the Lost Sheep of the House of Israel in 1880 in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He encouraged Black people to investigate their history to discover their spiritual heritage. In 1896 William Crowdy established a Hebrew congregation in Lawrence Kansas. 1899 a Moorish Zionist Temple in Brooklyn New York. There was an exponential increase in the number of Black American that identified with The YAHADUT following world war I. During the great migration of Blacks from rural areas of the deep south in 1900’s Arnold Josiah Ford founded the congregation, Beth B’nai Abraham in New York. 1918 Wentworth Arthur Matthews founded “The commandment Keepers” and became one of the leading Rabbis in Harlem. Branches of the commandment keepers sprang up in cities Philadelphia, Pittsburg, New Jersey. In 1967 Ben Ammi and his follower migrated to the Holy Land to the city of Dimona where they currently live in an African Hebrew kibbutz. There are groups of Hebrews in Ethiopia that I visited recently, in Ghana and other parts of Africa. This is the fulfillment of biblical prophecy; a glorious moment in time. Babayisrael@aol.com

Iran’s permanent mission to the United Nations calls on the international community to adopt a strong stance against Israel’s atomic threat. In a letter to the UN, the Iranian mission said Israel’s nuclear arsenal is the biggest threat to global peace and security. The letter urged the UN to compel Israel to join the nuclear non-proliferation treaty and put its nuclear program under the IAEA’s supervision. It also demanded that the U-N condemn Israel for threatening Iran with atomic annihilation. Noah Efron, Allison Kaplan Sommer, and Bradley Burston discuss three topics of incomparable importance and end with an anecdote about something in Israel that made them smile this week.   This week's extra segment is available to our patrons on www.patreon.com/promisedpodcast   Gaza: A Moment Before Israeli politicians and military brass have begun sounding the alarm about the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, where electricity is available for four to eight hours a day and where municipal services are being cut in half. While the military threat form Gaza appears containable, it is less clear that Israel can contain the ramifications of a total humanitarian collapse in Gaza. How can and should Israel act to forestall or prevent the humanitarian crisis that is about to swallow Gaza whole?   Show Me a Hero (and I’ll Write You a Tragedy) Mizrahi journalists and activists, are calling for the name of journalist Aryeh Gelblum name to be stripped from a cul-de-sac, which was named after him after his death in 1991. Should Israel purge the names of those who described Mizrahi Jews as ignorant from the public sphere?   Judaism: The Theme Park A massive new project is being planned for the relatively remote Israeli city of Dimona: the "Park of Wonders", a theme park based on Judaism. “The park will have the same rides and the same layout [as Disney World] but with content,” the project's CEO says. What, if anything, does it say about the place of Judaism in Israel, in Zionism, in the hearts and minds of Jews, in the 21st century?   Music: Omer Adam, in honor of this week selling out his May 24 concert Sami Ofer Stadium in Haifa, in less than 3 hours (including 40,000 folks signing up for the waiting list): Aharei kol ha-shanim itach  Mahapecha shel simha (with Lior Narkis) Az halachti  Matzati ba-Aron

Since the Gaza war and first Ferguson protests, many projects have traced intersections between these two contexts: the role of military power and systemic oppression of POC in Israel and in the US. We visited the African Hebrew Israelites’ Village of Peace in Dimona looking for less familiar language to describe the colonial legacies connecting Israel and the US. What we got was a lesson in deep history, meta-narrative, and prophetic visions. And, many lingering questions: about what it means to reclaim an ancestral home, a promised land; about the margins of Israeli society and the politics of outsidership there; and about the legacy of slavery in the US today.

In the third episode of Israel Story, we’ve got three stories that all revolve around people who rescue books, chase after books, or otherwise allow books to determine their destiny—from a Yiddish book collector based in the Tel Aviv central bus station to a lonely college student to bibliophiles in search of the lost fragments of the Aleppo Codex. And we chat with Israeli writer Etgar Keret, who has some original thoughts on where the “people of the book” tagline came from. (Listen to the full episode

TRANSFORMATIONSJazz guitarist Roni Ben-Hur has earned a sterling reputation as a musician and educator, renowned for his golden tone, improvisational brilliance, compositional lyricism and ability to charm peers, students and listeners alike. Eminent jazz critic Gary Giddins wrote in the Village Voice: "A limber and inventive guitarist, Ben-Hur keeps the modernist flame alive and pure, with a low flame burning in every note... [He's] a guitarist who knows the changes and his own mind." Ben-Hur - born in Israel in 1962 but a longtime American citizen, now based in New Jersey - has released nine albums as leader or co-leader, with Time Out New York calling him "a formidable and consummately lyrical guitarist." The Star-Ledger of New Jersey summed him up this way: "A deep musician, a storyteller, Ben-Hur works with a warm, glowing sound and has an alluring way of combining engaging notes with supple rhythm." Along with releasing acclaimed educational products - including the instructional DVD Chordability and method book Talk Jazz: Guitar - Ben-Hur has directed international jazz camps for nearly 15 years. Jazz guitar star Russell Malone got it right when he said: "Everything Roni does is beautiful. He has the magic touch."Ben-Hur's latest album is Our Thing (Motéma Music, 2012), a co-led trio project with Panamanian-born bassist Santi Debriano that also features Brazilian drummer Duduka Da Fonseca. Marked by soulful grooves, telepathic interplay and a rich, organic ensemble sound, Our Thing ranges from deeply swinging interpretations of Thelonious Monk's "Green Chimneys" and Irving Berlin's "Let's Face the Music and Dance" to a pair of poetic tunes by Antonio Carlos Jobim and several beautiful originals that channel the players' Middle Eastern, Latin and Brazilian heritages through a post-bop prism. One of Ben-Hur's compositions is a fresh rendition of a longtime favorite in his songbook: "Anna's Dance," written for one of his two daughters. DownBeat called Our Thing "mesmerizing," while New York City Jazz Record captured it colorfully: "Ben-Hur, Debriano and Da Fonseca sway with the grace of palm trees, exuding a laidback introspection." The Buffalo News encapsulated the album by describing it as "delectable jazz internationalism of near-Olympic variety. Ben-Hur and Debriano are players of first-rate fluency and taste."Ben-Hur's family relocated from Tunisia to Dimona, Israel, where he was born into large family - teaching him good ensemble values early on. The guitarist began playing in wedding bands and in Tel Aviv clubs as a teenager enraptured by the recordings of Wes Montgomery, Grant Green, Jim Hall and Kenny Burrell. The young musician also came to love the classical Spanish repertoire via Segovia, hearing a Moorish sound that resonated with his family's North African roots. Later, after moving to New York in 1985, he would fall for Brazilian music, particularly through the work of guitarist-composer Baden Powell. When Ben-Hur came onto the New York jazz scene, he was fortunate to be taken under the wing of veteran jazz pianist Barry Harris, a Monk disciple and Grammy Award-winner who led the influential Jazz Cultural Theater during the mid-'80s in Manhattan. The up-and-coming guitarist played in Harris's band, absorbing musical wisdom and life lessons.Teaching has become increasingly important to Ben-Hur over the years, as he has developed an international reach as an educator. As founder and director of the jazz program at the Lucy Moses School at the Kaufman Center in Manhattan since 1994, Ben-Hur has educated a multitude of jazz enthusiasts in ensemble playing, improvisation and jazz guitar. Along with his jazz camp with Santi Debriano in the South of France, Ben-Hur led camps for years in Patterson, N.Y. More recently, through his company Adventures in Jazz - which he operates with his wife, singer Amy London - Ben-Hur conducts jazz camps in Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico, in Istanbul, Turkey, and in Schroon Lake, N.Y., teaching workshops in straight-ahead jazz, Latin jazz and Brazilian jazz with Debriano and other teachers. With Brazilian bassist Nilson Matta, Ben-Hur also co-leads Samba Meets Jazz camps in Paraty, Brazil, and in Bar Harbor, Maine. With his partner in the Samba Meets Jazz camps, bassist Nilson Matta, Ben-Hur released the album Mojave (Motéma, 2011), which also featured drummer Victor Lewis and percussionist Café. The album was the second in Motéma's Jazz Therapy series. The series was co-founded by Ben-Hur and the label to raise money and awareness for the Dizzy Gillespie Memorial Fund of New Jersey's Englewood Hospital and Medical Center Foundation, which provides care for uninsured jazz musicians. The first album in the series wasSmile, Ben-Hur's 2008 duo set with veteran guitarist Gene Bertoncini.Ben-Hur and Matta are each masters of a musical tradition, the guitarist with bebop and the bassist with samba. Mojave sees them meld the two worlds, in league with New York jazz drummer Victor Lewis and Brazilian percussionist Café. They range from pieces by such Brazilian icons as Jobim, Baden Powell and choro pioneer Pixinguinha to Burt Bacharach's "The Look of Love" and deftly rhythmic originals by all four players. One of Ben-Hur's contributions is the moody beauty "Eretz" (Hebrew for "land"), another of his signature tunes interpreted afresh. The Rochester City Newspaper offered a glowing review of the album: "Mojave is magical from start to finish... The combination of Matta's samba and Ben-Hur's swing is a marriage made in heaven.Acclaim for Smile, Ben-Hur's dual-guitar album with Gene Bertoncini, was equally wide-spread. The New York Times lauded the "sophisticated and lyrical" musicianship, and DownBeat simply called the album "stunning," as the players stretch from the Charlie Chaplin title track and the Arlen-Mercer standard "Out of This World" to an enterprising take on Roberta Flack's hit "Killing Me Softly" and two of Ben-Hur's personal standards - his "Anna's Dance," written for one daughter, and "Sofia's Butterfly," penned for the other. Jazz sage Nat Hentoff praised the "lyrically meditative dialogue" between the two guitarists in the Wall Street Journal, while the Washington Post was enamored by "the dazzling dexterity and tasteful elegance of these duets."Two other key albums in Ben-Hur's discography are Fortuna (Motéma, 2009) and Keepin' It Open (Motéma, 2007), both quintet sets with piano vet Ronnie Matthews and ultra-swinging drummer Lewis Nash, plus percussionist Steve Kroon. Keepin' It Open, which also includes bassist Santi Debriano and trumpeter Jeremy Pelt in the group, has a wide purview, from Monk's rollicking "Think of One" to a dark-hued old Sephardic melody, "Eshkolit." Tapping into his family's Sephardic Jewish roots and his love of the Spanish classical guitar repertoire, Ben-Hur recasts Granados' "Andaluza" as an ensemble piece. And the guitarist's originals include the finger-snapping "My Man, Harris," a tribute to his mentor Barry Harris. JazzTimes called the album "a delight from start to finish," while critic Scott Yanow singled out the guitarist on All Music, saying that Ben-Hur "can swing as hard as anyone."Fortuna, which has Rufus Reid on double-bass, sees Ben-Hur recast Albéniz's "Granada" with an ear for the early Israeli popular music influenced by the Moorish sound. Along with two Jobim numbers, the disc includes the Irving Berlin ballad "I Got Lost in his Arms" and Ben-Hur's funky original "Guess Who." Jazz scholar Dan Morgenstern listed Fortuna as one of his top 10 discs of 2009. JazzTimes described the album this way: "A keen story teller, Ben-Hur's dexterous, melodic and emotive playing is supported by a tight-knit cast of stellar musicians... his skill and warm tone underscoring the band's chemistry." All About Jazz said, "Fortuna is a sparkling ode to the brightness of life."Ben-Hur's album Signature (Reservoir, 2005) put the guitarist in the company of pianist John Hicks, bassist Rufus Reid and drummer Leroy Williams, again plus percussionist Steve Kroon. The tracks include the first appearance of Ben-Hur's gem "Eretz," plus two pieces by Villa-Lobos and tunes by Jobim and Cole Porter. DownBeat said: "Signature is a collection of consummately played music that matches the six-stringer's consistently creative melody reading, soloing and comping with the supportive work of superb sidemen. Ben-Hur's original compositions are similarly impressive, from opening burner 'Mama Bee,' which dazzles with a brilliantly constructed guitar solo, to 'Eretz,' a gorgeous ballad intended as a tribute to the guitarist's native Israel that feels like an instant standard."For Anna's Dance (Reservoir, 2001), Ben-Hur convened a combo of elders: Barry Harris on piano, Charles Davis on saxophone, Walter Booker on double-bass and Leroy Williams on drums. The highlights include the debut of Ben-Hur's title composition, as well as the Billy Strayhorn ballad "A Flower Is a Lovesome Thing." In the Village Voice, Gary Giddins said: "As eloquent as a cool breeze, this understated exercise in bebop equilibrium goes down so easy that you might underestimate the magic. Ben-Hur and Charles Davis, who trades in his Sun Ra baritone for suave tenor, speak Harris's lingo like natives." Ben-Hur's kick-started his discography with two bebop showcases.Sofia's Butterfly (TCB, 1998) saw the guitarist - with drummer Leroy Williams and bassist Lisle Atkinson in tow - offering much promise; there's the ultra-fluid virtuosity of his take on Monk's "Four in One," not to mention the first appearances of his original title tune and "Fortuna." Ben-Hur made his initial splash on record with Backyard (TCB, 1996), which presented him with the Barry Harris Trio.In addition to leading his own bands, Ben-Hur has shared the stage and the studio not only with the heroes and great peers mentioned above but with the likes of Cecil Payne, Etta Jones, Marcus Belgrave, Charles McPherson, Jimmy Heath, Clark Terry, Slide Hampton, Earl May, Teri Thornton and Bill Doggett. Ben-Hur regularly performs in the top jazz venues and in major festivals across the country and around the world. As an educator, he has established jazz programs in New York City high schools, along with presenting workshops for students of all ages in the U.S. and Europe. His instructional releases include the DVD Chordability (Motéma, 2011), which offers 20 lessons on chord voicings and jazz harmony for intermediate and advanced guitarists. He also translated "the Barry Harris method" to guitar with the publication Talk Jazz: Guitar (Mel Bay, 2003), which has appeared in English and Japanese editions.Ben-Hur’s latest album is Our Thing (Motéma Music, 2012), a co-led trio project with Panamanian-born bassist Santi Debriano that also features Brazilian drummer Duduka Da Fonseca. Marked by soulful grooves, telepathic interplay and a rich, organic ensemble sound, Our Thing ranges from deeply swinging interpretations of Thelonious Monk’s “Green Chimneys” and Irving Berlin’s “Let’s Face the Music and Dance” to a pair of poetic tunes by Antonio Carlos Jobim and several beautiful originals that channel the players’ Middle Eastern, Latin and Brazilian heritages through a post-bop prism.
