Show #870   Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Tuesday 18th August 2020. It’s Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story so you don't have to.   Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.   BMW iNext Will Be Available In Three Versions "BMW knows it needs to get the production version of the iNext (possibly called iX) right because it will face some stiff electric SUV competition. So it needs to look good, be technologically advanced, have good range and charging capacity, as well as outright performance." says InsideEVs: " the entry level iNext will have 308 horsepower, the mid-range model will have 522 horsepower and the top of the range model will get 610 horsepower. All, even the base model, will come with a dual-motor all-wheel drive setup, although their level of performance will vary quite drastically (the most powerful version is nearly twice as powerful as the entry level model). We still don’t know the exact reveal date for the production model (and its official production name), but BMW has confirmed that series production will commence in July 2021 and it will go on sale in Europe shortly thereafter; the U.S. market will reportedly have to wait one additional year."   https://insideevs.com/news/439432/bmw-inext-ix-610-horsepower/?utm_source=RSS&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=RSS-all-articles   Volvo XC40 diesel models pulled from sale "Volvo has removed all diesel versions of its XC40 from sale in the UK as it moves away from the fuel in favour of electrified variants" reports Autocar: "A Volvo UK spokesman claimed the decision “is part of Volvo Cars’ ambitious global electrification strategy, which includes our well-established commitment to the phasing out of diesel in the long term. It also reflects the strong shift in customer demand towards petrol and electrified models.”.   available are two Recharge models: a plug-in hybrid (from £39,130) and the electric P8. The latter is available in First Edition form from £59,985, with cheaper variants due later. Models such as the next-generation XC90 seven-seat SUV will ditch diesel in favour of hybrid and electric variants, Volvo has confirmed."   https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/volvo-xc40-diesel-models-pulled-sale   Elon Musk Says Tesla Is Developing a "Beast" Neural Network Training Computer "Elon Musk took to Twitter on Friday to share a new development in Tesla. He revealed that the firm is developing a Neural Network training computer called “Dojo" that will be a "beast."" says Interesting Engineering: "A follower asked the CEO what will be the next big public release that shows a massive leap in Autopilot Full-Self Driving (FSD). Musk responded that the FSD improvement will come as a "quantum leap." “The FSD improvement will come as a quantum leap, because it’s a fundamental architectural rewrite, not an incremental tweak. I drive the bleeding edge alpha build in my car personally. Almost at zero interventions between home & work. Limited public release in 6 to 10 weeks," said Musk. Musk added that going from 2D to 4D would be a giant improvement. The new system will interpret things like traffic lights, stops, turns, and changes in acceleration in a video setting."   https://interestingengineering.com/elon-musk-says-tesla-is-developing-a-beast-neural-network-training-computer   Tesla two-factor authentication ‘embarrassingly late’ "Elon Musk tweeted Friday that two-factor authentication for its app is “embarrassingly late” but apparently is now on the way. Musk didn’t provide a timeline, but said on Twitter that two-factor authentication — which adds an additional step to verify a user’s identity at sign-in— is in “final validation.”" says The Verge: "Tesla’s 2FA will be available via SMS and authenticator apps, which are generally considered more secure."   https://www.theverge.com/2020/8/15/21370140/musk-tesla-2fa-security-cars   Tesla gets approval for next construction phase for Giga Berlin "Tesla has received approval to begin the next phase of construction at the site of Giga Berlin. On August 17, the Brandenburg State Office for the Environment approved the early start of Tesla’s next construction phase for its European production facility. Construction crews on the site can now begin driving piles as a part of the continuing foundational work." reports JOey for Teslarati: "The main issue that arose from the request was the protection of groundwater at the Giga Berlin property site. Refueling the non-mobile pile drivers that Tesla’s crews need to use for the next phase was the primary concern for those who complained. The fueling process could lead to chemicals being spilled on the ground and contaminating the groundwater in the area. The required protective material will eliminate the possibility of polluting the water located at the Giga Berlin landmass. Additionally, more requirements will be made that will ensure local roads and railways are not damaged from the vibrations that will naturally occur from the piledriving process"   https://www.teslarati.com/tesla-approval-giga-berlin-next-construction-phase/   Tesla breaks ground on world’s largest battery storage facility "Tesla, a world-renown electric automobile manufacturer along with PG&E recently began the construction of the world’s largest battery storage facility that will be located in Moss Landing (Monterey), California. The energy storage unit will be able to dispatch up to 730-megawatt hours (MWh) of energy to the electrical grid at a maximum rate of 182.5 MW for up to four hours using 256 of Tesla’s lithium-ion (Li-ion) Megapacks. Tesla and PG&E will have the option to upgrade Moss Landing’s capacity to bring the system up to 1.2-gigawatt-hours which could, according to Tesla’s report, power every home in the state of San Francisco for a quarter of the day." says Construction Review Online: "The battery storage facility will be launched in 2021 and will be designed, constructed, and maintained under both Tesla and PG&E. The construction of the Moss Landing site and other such mega-storage projects around the world shows us that there is a massive shift away from hydrocarbon-based power systems towards renewable generation backed up by utility-scale storage."   https://constructionreviewonline.com/2020/08/tesla-breaks-ground-on-worlds-largest-battery-storage-facility/   RAC launches EV warranty to boost consumer confidence "Assurant, the RAC’s partner in the aftersales sector, has launched EV One, a warranty product available to all of the network’s 1,500 dealers. It can be applied to any used EV or hybrid – both plug-in and series – up to a maximum of eight years old and with 80,000 miles on the clock at the time of purchase." according to MotorTrader.com: "Cover can be for a variety of periods up to 24 months, and claims can be made at the supplying dealer or almost any other, up to a limit of the vehicle purchase price."   Sean Kent, RAC director of sales at Assurant, said: “This is a very timely development with EVs and hybrids – especially plug-ins – starting to appear on the used market in larger numbers and, for the first time really, outside of franchise dealer networks. There is massive public interest in these vehicles but used car customers tend to be quite conservative in their buying choices. The new warranty, which provides the most comprehensive level of cover we have yet offered, is designed to deliver the peace of mind needed for them to feel comfortable with moving away from petrol and diesel power. As demand for EV and hybrids grows, car buyers are going to expect dealers to provide them as part of their stock mix, and the new warranty provides a cornerstone for new sales propositions for these kinds of vehicles."   https://www.motortrader.com/motor-trader-news/automotive-news/rac-launches-ev-warranty-boost-consumer-confidence-18-08-2020   CATL aims to boost EV range with battery cells installed in vehicle frames "Chinese battery maker CATL is looking to boost the range of electric cars by packing batteries into vehicle frames, according to a Reuters report published Wednesday. Distributing battery cells throughout a car allows for more total cells, increasing energy-storage capacity and thus range. This will allow future electric cars to achieve a 500-mile range, CATL chairman Zeng Yuqun said at an industry conference in Wuhan, China" says Green Car Reports: "In 2018, Swedish researchers said they were looking at making the entire vehicle body the battery—encased in carbon fiber. Prior to that, Volvo experimented with storing energy in body panels, using a composite material made from carbon fiber. But barriers remain. Safety is one. Placing the battery in the middle of the vehicle, mostly away from crush zones, in a centralized pack, has helped make it more predictable for first responders in crashes."   https://www.greencarreports.com/news/1129239_report-catl-aims-to-boost-ev-range-with-battery-cells-installed-in-vehicle-frames   Renault Twingo ZE gets official WLTP ratings "Now that the Renault Twingo ZE appears at Renault’s German and French websites, we have the official WLTP ratings. There’s good and bad news…" reports Pedro for PushEVs: "he bad news is that Renault’s on-board charger is still very inefficient at low currents. Charging at 10 amps has an efficiency of roughly 70 percent. To have a decent charging efficiency the current should be at least 16 amps, with 32 amps being recommended. Have this in mind when you choose an EVSE (Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment) if you have an electric car made by Renault. The good news is that the WLTP range is higher than was previously estimated by Renault. The WLTP city range is increased from 250 to 270 km and the WLTP combined range is increased from 180 to 190 km. (118 miles) from 22kWh battery. SEAT Mii electric. WLTP combined range: 161 miles. Total battery capacity: 36,8 kWh. Unfortunately the Renault Twingo ZE and the VW electric triplets are only considered as backup plans by their makers. They are the electric cars that Renault and Volkswagen will eventually try to sell only if the sales of the more profitable ZOE and ID.3 aren’t enough to meet EU emissions targets…"   https://pushevs.com/2020/08/14/renault-twingo-ze-gets-official-wltp-ratings/   Kia Niro EV = New #1 EV In The Netherlands "Overall, 5,685 plugin vehicles were sold in July, a new year best, pulling the YTD tally back into positive numbers (+15% YoY), thanks to over 25,000 registrations." says Clean Technica: "The Kia Niro EV won last month’s trophy, beating its personal best on the way with a record score of 644 deliveries. In 2nd place we have a surprise — the MG ZS EV won silver, thanks to a year best score of 501 units. In 3rd we also have a kind of surprise, with the VW e-Golf scoring 488 units, a new year best and an amazing performance for a model said to have just a couple more months to live."   https://cleantechnica.com/2020/08/16/kia-niro-ev-new-1-ev-in-netherlands/   You can listen to all 869 previous episodes of this this for free, where you get your podcasts from, plus the blog https://www.evnewsdaily.com/ – remember to subscribe, which means you don’t have to think about downloading the show each day, plus you get it first and free and automatically.   It would mean a lot if you could take 2mins to leave a quick review on whichever platform you download the podcast.   And  if you have an Amazon Echo, download our Alexa Skill, search for EV News Daily and add it as a flash briefing.   Come and say hi on Facebook, LinkedIn or Twitter just search EV News Daily, have a wonderful day, I’ll catch you tomorrow and remember…there’s no such thing as a self-charging hybrid.     PHIL ROBERTS / ELECTRIC FUTURE (PREMIUM PARTNER) BRAD CROSBY (PREMIUM PARTNER) AVID TECHNOLOGY (PREMIUM PARTNER) PORSCHE OF THE VILLAGE CINCINNATI (PREMIUM PARTNER) AUDI CINCINNATI EAST (PREMIUM PARTNER) VOLVO CARS CINCINNATI EAST (PREMIUM PARTNER) NATIONALCARCHARGING.COM and ALOHACHARGE.COM  (PREMIUM PARTNER) DEREK REILLY FROM THE EV REVIEW IRELAND YOUTUBE CHANNEL (PREMIUM PARTNER)   DAVID AND LISA ALLEN (PARTNER) OEM AUDIO OF NEW ZEALAND AND EVPOWER.CO.NZ (PARTNER) GARETH HAMER eMOBILITY NORWAY HTTPS://WWW.EMOBILITYNORWAY.COM/  (PARTNER) BOB BOOTHBY – MILLBROOK COTTAGES AND ELOPEMENT WEDDING VENUE (PARTNER) DARIN MCLESKEY (PARTNER)   ALAN ROBSON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ALAN SHEDD (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ALEX BANAHENE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ALEXANDER FRANK @ https://www.youtube.com/c/alexsuniverse42 ANDERS HOVE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ANDREA JEFFERSON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ASEER KHALID (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ASHLEY HILL (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) BÅRD FJUKSTAD (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) BRENT KINGSFORD (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) BRIAN THOMPSON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) BRUCE BOHANNAN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) CHARLES HALL (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) CHRIS HOPKINS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) COLIN HENNESSY AND CAMBSEV (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) CRAIG COLES (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) CRAIG ROGERS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DAMIEN DAVIS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DARREN FEATCH (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DAVE DEWSON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DAVID FINCH (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DAVID MOORE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DAVID PARTINGTON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DAVID PRESCOTT (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DON MCALLISTER / SCREENCASTSONLINE.COM (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ERU KYEYUNE-NYOMBI (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) FREDRIK ROVIK (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) GENE RUBIN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) GILBERTO ROSADO (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) GEOFF LOWE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) HEDLEY WRIGHT (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) IAN GRIFFITHS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) IAN SEAR (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) IAN (WATTIE) WATKINS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JACK OAKLEY (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JAMES STORR (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JIM MORRIS (EXECUTIVE PRODICERS) JOHN C SOLAR (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JON AKA BEARDY MCBEARDFACE FROM KENT EVS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JON MANCHAK (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JUAN GONZALEZ (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) KEN MORRIS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) KEVIN MEYERSON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) KYLE MAHAN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) LARS DAHLAGER (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) LAURENCE D ALLEN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) LEE BROWN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) LUKE CULLEY (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) MARCEL WARD (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) MARK BOSSERT (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) MARTY YOUNG  (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) MATT PISCIONE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) MIA OPPELSTRUP (PARTNER) MICHAEL PASTRONE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) MIKE WINTER (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) NATHAN GORE-BROWN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) NEIL E ROBERTS FROM SUSSEX EVS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) NIGEL MILES (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) OHAD ASTON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PAUL RIDINGS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER)                 PAUL STEPHENSON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PETE GLASS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PETE GORTON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PETER & DEE ROBERTS FROM OXON EVS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER)  PHIL MOUCHET (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PHILIP TRAUTMAN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) RAJ BADWAL (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) RAJEEV NARAYAN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) RENE KEEMIK (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) RENÉ SCHNEIDER (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) RICHARD LUPINSKY (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ROB HERMANS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ROB FROM THE RSTHINKS EV CHANNEL ON YOUTUBE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) RUPERT MITCHELL (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) SEIKI PAYNE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) STEPHEN PENN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) STEVE JOHN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) THOMAS J. Aktuelle Wirtschaftsnews aus dem Radio mit Michael Weyland

Show #746   Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Sunday 12th April 2020. It’s Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story so you don't have to.   BMW 7 SERIES ELECTRIC RUMORED TO HAVE AT LEAST 650 HORSEPOWER "When BMW announced the beefiest version of the next-generation 7er will have zero emissions, it didn’t disclose any details about the power delivered by its electric motors. Now, our pals at BMWBLOG claim to be in the know about the hottest version of the fullsize luxury sedan." says Motor1: "Rumored to be called Mi7 or i7 M60, the range-topping 7 Series is said to have at least two electric motors delivering a combined output of 650+ horsepower or about 50 hp more than the M760i.  The report goes on to mention the flagship 7 Series will have a large battery pack with a capacity of over 100 kWh for a range between charges of up to 400 miles (644 kilometers). It won’t be the only M Performance version as below it will reportedly sit a plug-in hybrid model tentatively called M750e with a turbocharged straight-six 3.0-liter combined with an electric motor. The electric derivatives will have some stiff competition coming from existing models such as the Porsche Taycan and Tesla Model S as well as from the upcoming Audi E-Tron GT, Jaguar XJ, and the Mercedes EQS."   https://www.motor1.com/news/408983/bmw-7-series-electric-power/   InsideEVs has more info on the pack sizes: “Regarding the i7, there will apparently be (at least) two variants. One will draw juice from an 80 kWh battery pack while another will have an even bigger 120 kWh pack; this should take it up to 600 km (385 miles) on a single charge, and there’s a good change it will only be offered in the long-wheelbase model in order to actually have enough room for the pack to fit.”   https://insideevs.com/news/409390/bmw-i7-rendering-all-we-know/   HOT PLUG-IN HYBRID VOLKSWAGEN T-ROC GTE "The Volkswagen T-Roc range could potentially be bolstered by a high-performance GTE version in future, should the market produce sufficient demand" says Auto Express: "When asked during a press conference call if a performance plug-in hybrid for the T-Roc would be a good fit, VW’s Project Manager for Electrified Drivetrains, Dr Kai Philipp, said: “Our MQB technology gives us the possibility to do so.”Power would come from the petrol-electric powertrain that’s widely used across the Volkswagen Group. A 1.4-litre turbocharged engine is paired with an electric motor, which is capable of producing as much as 242bhp in the new 2020 Golf. However, the GTE would be more efficient than either: the 13kWh battery should enable an electric-only range of around 40 mile."   https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/hybrid-cars/352045/hot-plug-hybrid-volkswagen-t-roc-gte-cards   CONSTRUCTION OF TESLA GIGAFACTORY 4 REPORTEDLY POSTPONED "After the super quick pace of work at the Tesla Gigafactory 4 (aka Giga Berlin) site in Grünheide, near Berlin in Germany, the activity now is almost frozen. Some were saying that Tesla is waiting for a permit, but the latest reports indicate that the company is revising its construction plan." says InsideEVs: "Tesla previously completed clearing the tree farm and ground leveling. The next stage would be the foundation, which seems to be postponed. Torque News reports: "We just got breaking news from Tesla Giga Berlin. Brandenburg’s public radio RBB 24 reports that Tesla has to postpone the construction of the foundation for its Gigafactory 4 in Grunheide, outside of Berlin." According to the State Environment Agency, Tesla wants to revise the approval documents on one more point: In response to criticism from local residents, the company had announced that the factory should use less water than originally planned."   https://insideevs.com/news/408936/construction-gigafactory-4-postponed/   LORDSTOWN MOTORS SHOWS ENDURANCE ELECTRIC PICKUP'S IN-WHEEL MOTORS IN ACTION "Several automakers, from Ford to Tesla, are planning to launch electric pickup trucks, but startup company Lordstown Motors will have something that sets its Endurance pickup apart from the rest—in-wheel electric motors. A new video shows one of the in-wheel motors in action." says Motor Authority: "Mounting the motors inside the wheel hub frees up space, and offers the potential to more precisely control how much torque is sent to a wheel. Torque can be added or subtracted by adjusting the amount of current going to the motor, rather than using the clutch packs, differentials, or brake applications typically used to adjust torque split. Lordstown says the Endurance carries a base price of $52,500. It is accepting $1,000 refundable deposits for early build slots. In comparison, Tesla says its Cybertruck starts at $39,900. Lordstown has said it will start deliveries in the fourth quarter of 2020. Lordstown is also targeting commercial fleets, while the Cybertruck is aimed at individual retail buyers."   Lordstown, Cybertruck, Rivian, Ford F150, Hummer, Bollinger.   https://www.motorauthority.com/news/1127234_lordstown-motors-shows-endurance-electric-pickup-s-in-wheel-motors-in-action   ELECTRIC CAR WAITING TIMES REVEALED "The average waiting time on a new electric car has significantly dropped in the past 12 months, with the majority of new electric vehicles now available within 12 weeks, according to What Car?’s analysis of all 26 electric models currently on sale." says WhatCar: "Last year, lead times for some electric cars exceeded more than 12 months, making it nigh-on impossible for buyers to commit to purchasing one. the Kia e-Niro, had a waiting list that extended to more than a year 12 months ago. As a result of increased supply, its lead time has been halved to 26 weeks. The longest wait is on Porsche’s first electric car, the Taycan (36 weeks), followed by the Seat Mii electric and Skoda Citigo e IV (26 weeks). But as I've got a long weekend off I'm leaving it at 80% . But in the past I've had the leaf plugged in at 100% for 3/4 days. Holidays when I've flown from the airport 30 miles away left it for two weeks at 60/70% . TBH I don't think it matters short term. Eg long weekend. But longer term week to two weeks plus I would say leave around 80% . Just my experience of 3yrs EV driving   Ybe EV  • 2 days ago Hi Martyn, Regarding your question of the week. I keep my Nissan Leaf connected up to my V2G charger. I have set it to charge to maximum of 95% and discharge to minimum of 25%. It tends to do one full cycle over a 24 hour period. I have been on the OVO V2G trial in the UK since July 2019 and have seen no significant battery degradation in that time. The current lockdown just means the car spends more time connected to the V2G charger and goes some small way to help smooth out the demand peaks. The best part is that I have had basically free electricity for my home and EV since the trial began :-)   Chris Avram Car models may have special needs in layup. Chevy/Holden Volt Amperra will only maintain the 12 Volt battery if it is "rumning" or plugged in. Cant choose SOC so mine sits plugged in at 100% SOC = 85 % REAL. Also need to run it for 10 minutes on gas every month  or so.   Fabian Bonasera  • 5 days ago We're keeping our 2013 Nissan LEAF at 80%.   We're not sure if we should keep it plugged in all the time or not.  We are still driving it 1 or 2 days a week for small trips, so we could charge just one night every week if that's better for the battery's health   Victor Wood I parked up my Ioniq with about 75% charge as that’s what it was at when I last parked it. Once every couple of weeks I will go to the (remotely located garage) and change it’s parked position and leave the car on for 15 minutes to recharge the 12v battery. Tbh the 12v battery worries me more than the HV battery.   Kenz300 x  • 6 days ago If the car is parked for a long time leave it at 50-60% no more.   Bill B Our Audi E Tron is setting @ 79 miles in the garage, here in FL USA. Probably not going anywhere for a while. Getting groceries delivered.   PETER GLASS The BMW i3 manual is pretty clear. If you are leaving the car for over 3months then it should be plugged in. It has so little vampire drain that as long as it’s on reasonably high charge frankly there’s nothing really to worry about. There is no facility to set a charging limit, e.g. 80%, like a Tesla or Kona so you’d have to unplug manually at the right time if you wanted to leave it short of 100%. One important thing is, the i3 battery management has ‘passive cell balancing’ which is best done at 100% [it does happen at high charge but what level is unclear] so having the car idle is an opportunity to leave it balancing and getting a deep sleep. [The manual is equally clear about not leaving the car on low charge. What is low? Well, it won’t let you turn on the heaters while sitting waiting at a rapid charger if it’s under 12%, so clearly the BMS is unhappy there. I drove back from Poole in 2017 with only 6 or 7% left and didn’t charge it back up for over a day – I’m sure the car emailed me it was unhappy, but I can’t remember for sure…!!]. I think most EVs need to be concerned about is their 12Volt batteries and it’s worth waking up the car, switching it on for say 20mins letting the DC to DC converter do it’s work [especially if they are a few years old]. I expect the i3 manual on the 3month lay up is thinking about this issue.   RAJEEV NARAYAN I’m a physician so I’m driving 80 miles a day or more! In the past however when I have left the EV for a week or so, I left the battery at about 50% under the assumption that the battery dislikes extreme states of charge or discharge.     QUESTION OF THE WEEK   How can the EV industry help people get driving electric as soon as this is all over?   I want to say a heartfelt thank you to the 237 patrons of this podcast whose generosity means I get to keep making this show, which aims to entertain and inform thousands of listeners every day about a brighter future.

Versprochen.

Show #640   Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Wednesday 13th November 2019. It’s Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story to save you time.   Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.   TESLA’S MODEL 3 SUCCESS HITS BMW THE HARDEST Part 4 of Bloomberg's Tesla Owner survey is out and it's a recommended read. Here are some highlights: "We asked 5,000 owners about what it’s like to live with Elon Musk’s electric car. Here’s what we found. The average Model 3 goes for around $50,000, which is more than any of the top 10 vehicles that buyers traded in from other brands, according to responses to Bloomberg’s Model 3 owners survey. No other sedan in America is generating more revenue. While Tesla took the largest number of customers from Toyota, it affects the Japanese automaker very little. That’s because Toyota’s market share in the U.S. is enormous. [However] as a proportion of a brand’s U.S. sales. It shows BMW to be the automaker with the most to lose—almost five times more vulnerable than Mercedes-Benz.  Many said Tesla’s mission to accelerate the adoption of electric cars creates an unusual sense of owner camaraderie. About 55% of respondents said their opinion of Musk influenced their decision to purchase the car. Model 3 Owners Are Tesla’s Biggest Sales Force."   In terms of the brands most vulnerable, BMW, Mini, Audi, Acura, Infiniti, Porsche, Lexus and Mercedes-Benz.   https://www.bloomberg.com/graphics/2019-tesla-model-3-survey/market-evolution.html#intro   TESLA ADDS MORE BATTERY CAPACITY TO HELP EV OWNERS ESCAPE BUSH-FIRES "Tesla has issued a temporary software update to vehicle owners in regions of NSW and Queensland currently impacted by bush fires. It extends the available battery capacity in some models that otherwise have that capacity locked by the vehicle’s software." reports TheDriven.io: "the software update would allow owners of models that include the Tesla S 60 and 60D, which come installed with a 75kWh battery, but that is limited by software that makes only 60kWh available"   https://thedriven.io/2019/11/13/with-flick-of-switch-tesla-adds-more-battery-capacity-to-help-ev-owners-escape-bush-fires/   SEAT MII ELECTRIC SEAT starts its electric offensive with the introduction of the Mii electric. The new model is SEAT’s first all-electric production vehicle and lays the groundwork for future members to join the family. More EVs and PHEVs are due in the near future, including the allelectric SEAT el-Born, plug-in hybrid versions of the Tarraco and Leon, and high-performance plug-in hybrid versions of CUPRA Formentor and CUPRA Leon. The Home Charge option adds a charging cable to charge directly at home using a 2.3 kW system, while Fast brings CCS fast charging capability with a DC charging capacity of 40kW.   The all-electric city car is the first model to include SEAT CONNECT. The system gives remote access and management of the vehicle, so customers can review driving data, parking position, the vehicle’s status, including doors and lights, manage the charging process via the e-Manager and the ability to control air-conditioning remotely – an important technology when you’re faced with extremes in climate – all from a smartphone app.   From electrive: "Seat makes the affordability of the electric model a selling point: Mii costs around the same as a combustion engine car of comparable size and power, only with lower running costs  – and here Seat also refers to the significantly lower maintenance costs of electric vehicles. With regard to equipment, Seat has decided to keep the range simple: With the Mii electric and Mii electric Plus"   EMPLOYERS SHOULD SEE WORKPLACE CHARGING AS MORE THAN A PERK FOR ITS WORKERS "Workplace electric vehicle charging is often seen as an employment perk both by businesses and their (current or prospective) employees, but that strategy could be short-sighted. On-site electric chargers may actually be a boon for business, a report suggests, potentially bringing in customers and attracting a stable, engaged workforce." according to Green Car Reports: "The study, conducted by Wood Mackenzie (a subsidiary of data analytics firm Verisk), says that businesses underestimate the value of on-site electric chargers. Data suggest that not only might electric chargers attract customers, but the particular types of buyers they bring in are highly desirable."   https://www.greencarreports.com/news/1125927_report-employers-should-see-workplace-charging-as-more-than-a-perk-for-its-workers   CHINA: 46.38 GWH OF EV BATTERIES DEPLOYED SO FAR THIS YEAR "The Chinese EV lithium-ion battery market grew so far this year to over 46 GWh, and close to 51% falls on CATL. BYD's share over 10 months is 20%, which together is almost 71%." reports InsideEVs: "Despite the YTD numbers being healthy, the past three months bring decline. Let's take a look at the details, provided by the Moneyball.   Top Chinese EV battery manufacturers by installed capacity (January-October):   CATL - 23.58  GWh (up 65%) BYD - 9.23 GWh (up 12%) Guoxuan - 2.37 GWh (up 43%) Lishen - 1.27 GWh (down 1%) CALB - 1.12 GWh (up 307%) Over ten months of 2019, some 46.38 GWh of batteries were deployed in New Energy Vehicles, which is 38% more than a year ago:   Passenger cars - 33.61 GWh (up 55%) Buses - 9.39 GWh (down 8%) SPV (other) - 3.39 GWh (up 19%)"   https://insideevs.com/news/381619/china-46-gwh-ev-batteries-deployed/   TESLA AUTOPILOT NEARS 2 BILLION MILES DRIVEN, FULL-SELF DRIVING CONTINUES TO IMPROVE "Tesla is yet to issue a formal announcement about its total Autopilot miles to date, though a model by MIT researcher Lex Fridman has predicted that the 2-billion-mile mark will be crossed sometime on November 11, 2019. That being said, Fridman’s model might even be a bit conservative, considering that Tesla’s fleet is growing by the day and more and more vehicles are traveling across the globe on Autopilot thanks to the Model 3 ramp." says Simon at Teslarati: "If Tesla does confirm Autopilot’s 2-billion-mile milestone, it would be a great accomplishment for the electric car maker. After all, it took 4 over four years for Tesla’s fleet of vehicles to reach 1 billion real-world miles on Autopilot. Provided that Lex Fridman’s estimates are accurate, Autopilot’s next billion miles seems to have taken less than a year to accomplish."   https://www.teslarati.com/tesla-autopilot-hits-2-billion-miles-full-self-driving/   NISSAN IS IN ABSOLUTE SHAMBLES From Forbes: "In Europe the Leaf also seems to be paying the price for being the pioneer overtaken by late-comers with better technology and sexier-looking models, said Berlin-based automotive analyst Matthias Schmidt. “The Leaf is in danger of being in the position of standing before the EV wall and assisting others over it, thanks to establishing the electric market early on with its first generation model, yet potentially finding it more of an effort to clear the wall itself once the other manufacturers have cleared it,” Schmidt said."   https://www.forbes.com/sites/neilwinton/2019/11/12/nissan-leaf-sales-falter-as-new-competitors-offer-better-technology-looks/#7aacee5f1a74   From Jalopnik: "Hot on the heels of Honda announcing sales down, Nissan laid out a historically bad report of profits being down an amazing 70 percent, the company’s worst outlook in 11 years, as the Japan Times reports: Nissan, whose financial performance has been in the doldrums for nearly two years, cut its forecast for operating profit to 150 billion in the year through March 2020, from a previous forecast of 230 billion. The new forecast means earnings for the full year will be at their worst in 11 years."   https://jalopnik.com/nissan-is-absolute-shambles-1839799530   SHELL FIXES FIRST EV CHARGING STATIONS IN U.S "Shell’s first electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in the United States, has been installed at Boston Logan International Airport."   says PetrolWorld.com: "The 50-kW Veelfil-RT DC fast-charging stations were installed by Greenlots, a Los Angeles-based provider of EV charging and energy management software that was acquired by Shell in 2019, with the units manufactured by Tritium, an Australian firm. "   https://www.petrolworld.com/headlines/item/33599-netherlands-shell-fixes-first-ev-charging-stations-in-u-s   And from Fleet Europe: "Shell are extending their EV offer to our customers’ homes and workplaces.  The acquisition of NewMotion in Europe has enabled Shell to provide charging points to tens of thousands of homes and businesses and it is offering a similar proposition with Greenlots in the US. To help enable cheaper charging for their customers, Shell have also been piloting smart-charging technology in the UK and Germany that helps integrate EVs into the power grid at times when overall demand is at its lowest."   https://www.fleeteurope.com/en/new-energies/europe/features/transition-low-carbon-energy-shell-fleet-solutions?t%5B0%5D=Shell&t%5B1%5D=NewMotion&curl=1   QUESTION OF THE WEEK The MYEV.com Question Of The Week…   If you had to pick ONE upside to driving an EV, what would be it be?   I want to say a heartfelt thank you to the 254 patrons of this podcast whose generosity means I get to keep making this show, which aims to entertain and inform thousands of listeners every day about a brighter future. Space is tight at the factory, with workers already making some Model 3 sedans on an assembly line under a massive tent erected outside the facility."   https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-09-09/tesla-permit-application-hints-at-another-fremont-assembly-line   THE HONDA E ELECTRIC CAR DEBUTS WITH OFFICIAL PRICING BEFORE SUMMER LAUNCH "Honda has released the first official images of its new honda e electric vehicle ahead of its summer launch. Unveiled for the first time during the Frankfurt Motor Show" according to the website DesignBoom: "Two 12.3-inch LCD touchscreens in the center form an infotainment display, while an 8.8-inch screen acts as the driver’s instrument cluster. it also comes equipped with a personal assistant that lets users control certain functions by saying ‘OK honda’. away from the car, honda e owners can use the my honda+ smartphone application, with features like charging point navigation, climate control and vehicle condition reports. the honda e’s 134-hp spec starts at £26,160 (approximately €29,470/$32,300), with the more powerful priced at £28,660 (about €32,180/$35,300). customers can make a reservation for priority ordering online in UK, germany, france and norway, or register their interest in other european markets on honda national websites. the honda e will start to ship later in summer 2020."   https://www.designboom.com/technology/honda-e-electric-car-pricing-09-13-2019/   TESLA IS NOW INSTALLING FULL SELF DRIVING HARDWARE 3 UPGRADE "The first confirmed upgrade to Tesla’s new Full Self Driving hardware version 3 (HW3) took place today after a customer took his 2018 Tesla Model S P100DL into the Santa Barbara service center to get a new HEPA filter." says CleanTechnica "After the service, Twitterer and longtime Tesla supporter Sofiaan Fraval noticed that a line on his service documents indicated that the new hardware had been installed at the appointment as well. Sofiaan went on to clarify that the HW3 upgrade was currently only being offered to Model S and X owners, but just the fact that the upgrades have started is sure to get anyone who purchased the FSD suite excited. The new HW3 cannot yet be requested by customers for installation, as it is only being installed by eligible vehicles that come in for other service at service centers that have the new hardware and have been trained to install it. Even if you think your vehicle qualifies, you may not get the new HW3 installed at a service appointment. The arrival of HW3 currently only impacts Tesla owners running HW2 who have purchased the FSD software stack."   https://cleantechnica.com/2019/09/11/tesla-installs-first-customer-upgrade-to-full-self-driving-hardware-3/   HIGHLY MODIFIED TESLA MODEL S P100D+ SPOTTED TESTING NEAR NURBURGRING First up from Road & Track: "To set a time, you need to rent the track privately. We're now hearing that Tesla has done just that. A source on the ground has informed R&T that a time could be set next week. Our source told us that the Nurburgring issued a schedule change for September 21st, with a 30 minute private window carved out of a session that already had public laps and Ring taxi laps on the calendar. There is also the possibility of lap timing in a session on the 18th, though it doesn't sound like that session would be private. Carving out that time, from a session that was previously booked and was guaranteed to make the track money, is an expensive proposition."   And from InsideEVs: "According to our spy photographers: "...we’ve spied Tesla at a private test facility not far from the Nürburgring prepping a Model S for a run at the lap record. The Model S Tesla is prepping for the record attempt does not appear to be stock. We can see wider fender flares, aggressive wheels and tires, and a trunk lip spoiler. From what we heard the tires where Michelin Cup 2 R for that extra grip and we also spotted a roll cage inside the car." Additionally, it seems the lower grille opening is bigger to enhance cooling. And if you zoom in on shots of the rear badging, it seems to display P100D+."   In the comments from eric W: "Pictures 7 and 12 show back of car and it looks to me like it has "P100D+" on it. The +Plus is what they used for the original P85 to P85+ to add track enhanced features, so done in past. Like the article says, new Model S P100D+ added to ordering studio makes it all legit. If it beats Taycan, how much could they charge for it? They have +$140K to work with and still come in under Taycan Price?"   https://www.roadandtrack.com/car-culture/a28999141/tesla-could-set-a-nurburgring-lap-time-on-september-21st/   https://insideevs.com/news/370314/tesla-model-s-spy-nurburgring/   TESLA MODEL S BREAKS LAGUNA SECA LAP RECORDS "Following the recent launch of the Porsche Taycan, Musk appears to be on a mission to show that Tesla’s vehicles are still the highest-performance EVs available today." writes Electrek: "While they couldn’t get things done in Germany, Tesla tried for its own record at home at the Laguna Seca racetrack. Musk said that they broke the fastest lap record for 4-door vehicles. Laguna Seca has become somewhat of a proving ground for electric vehicles in recent years. Last year, the record for the fastest production EV lap has changed hands several times."   https://electrek.co/2019/09/11/tesla-model-s-breaks-laguna-seca-lap-records-elon-musk/   SEAT MII ELECTRIC IS THE CHEAPEST VW TRIPLET "Today at Frankfurt Motor Show 2019, SEAT announced the price of the Mii Electric in Germany, making it the cheapest VW triplet." according to Push EVs: "Anyway, the VW triplets are the first electric cars with decent range (260 km in WLTP) that we can really call affordable. The brand’s first electric model can be purchased starting at €145 per month with no down payment with a 36-month leasing formula in Germany or outright for €16,300 (including government and brand subsidies)."   SEAT Mii Electric Germany: 20.650 euros (before subsidies) and 16.300 euros (after subsidies)   ŠKODA CITIGOe iV Germany: 20.950 euros (before subsidies) and 16.570 euros (after subsidies)   Volkswagen e-up Germany: 21.975 euros (before subsidies) and 17.595 euros (after subsidies)   These are all the same car, so checking out the specs from the VW e-UP: "The updated e-Up! is not likely to receive any major styling changes – the main difference being its underpinnings. Thanks to a larger 32.3kWh battery (up from 18.7kWh), the e-Up! is now able to travel 161 miles on a full charge – a sharp rise over the last car’s 99-mile range. It’s also able to charge at a 40kW rate, meaning that by using a rapid charger its batteries will be able to be topped up to 80 per cent from near-flat in an hour. The 82bhp electric motor remains the same – enabling a 0-60mph time of 11.7 seconds and a top speed of 81mph."   https://pushevs.com/2019/09/10/seat-mii-electric-is-the-cheapest-vw-triplet/   https://www.carkeys.co.uk/news/updated-volkswagen-e-up-ev-set-to-debut-at-frankfurt-motor-show   TESLA DOUBLES SUPERCHARGING REFERRAL BONUS TO 2,000 FREE MILES IN Q3 SALES PUSH "Tesla’s referral program has been an effective tool for the company to promote car sales. By using a referral code or link to order your new Tesla, both you (the buyer) and the referring owner get free Supercharging. Until today, that bonus was 1,000 miles of free Supercharging for buyer and referrer. But Tesla just announced that it is doubling that bonus to 2,000 free Supercharging miles for any Tesla car ordered on or after September 10, 2019 and delivered before October 1, 2019." reports CleanTechnica: "Unlike previous referral bonuses which only required that the car be ordered by the deadline, this time, Tesla is requiring that the car be delivered by the deadline. So those who want to take advantage of this offer may need to select an available “inventory” model from their local Tesla showroom. Though, Tesla has tightened up its delivery rates lately, so it is possible that you could custom order a Tesla today and have it delivered with your exact specifications by the October 1 deadline."   https://cleantechnica.com/2019/09/10/tesla-doubles-supercharging-referral-bonus-to-2000-free-miles-in-q3-sales-push/       QUESTION OF THE WEEK The MYEV.com Question Of The Week. Show #518   Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Thursday  4th July 2019. TESTING SUGGESTS NEW 62 KWH NISSAN LEAF SUFFERS FROM #RAPIDGATE "A recent road test by German EV rental specialist Nextmove has found that the new 62 kWh Nissan LEAF still suffers from similar DC fast charging throttling (#Rapidgate) issues at elevated temperature as the 40 kWh LEAF." according to Dr Max Holland for CleanTechnica: "the Tekna trim price being £35,895 in the UK (higher prices than its battery electric competition, the Hyundai Kona EV or Kia Niro EV) and €47,000 in Germany (more than the Tesla Model 3 Standard Range Plus).  whether or not this best-seen-charge-speed of 44 kW was temperature-limited or charger-power-limited, the drastically lower power (28 kW and 24 kW) delivered at subsequent DC charge sessions, corresponding to higher battery pack temperatures (47°C  and 49°C, respectively) can only be explained by thermal throttling. The 24 kW (corresponding to 49°C) was seen on the 2nd DC charge session on the first day of the test. On the 40kWh car, to its credit, in some regions, Nissan has recognised the issue and offered a software update to make the charge power restrictions a little less stringent. This effectively changes the battery management firmware to allow the battery to reach somewhat higher temperatures before restricting the DC charging power."   Nissan give this guidance "“The Nissan LEAF is designed to support the majority of journeys in daily life and is equipped with charging safeguards to protect the battery during repeated rapid charging sessions in a short period of time. The time taken for successive rapid charging can take longer if the battery temperature activates the battery safeguarding technology.”   https://cleantechnica.com/2019/07/02/initial-testing-suggests-new-62-kwh-nissan-leaf-suffers-from-rapidgate-on-longer-trips/   IN JUNE 2019, E-TRON SALES ACCOUNTED FOR 3.7% OF AUDI VOLUME IN U.S. "In June, Audi e-tron sales in the U.S. were a little lower than in May (726 vs 856), but overall it wasn't a bad result for the second full month of availability." says the InsideEVs Sales Scorecard: "Currently, the e-tron accounts for 3.7% of Audi sales (compared to 4.5% in May), which is significant as the brand balances on the growth/decline edge (in June sales decreased by 0.3% to 19,409). Comparing the e-tron to the Tesla Model X (2,725) reveals a huge difference of around 2,000, but it will be interesting to see how the situation progresses over time."   https://insideevs.com/news/357881/june-2019-e-tron-sales-us/   Volkswagen quietly announces the new e-up for 2020 "Following the announcements of the ŠKODA CITIGOe iV and the SEAT Mii, the new Volkswagen e-up is finally unveiled to complete the electric city car trio.   It’s curious that Volkswagen have not made a worldwide press release yet, since this automaker is the champion of announcing electric cars for the future. Instead, the new Volkswagen e-up was announced at the Volkswagen Nederland website." notices Pedro for PushEVs.com. It turns out this info was also on the Nederlands VW page as far back as APril: "The popular small car Volkswagen e-up! comes in an updated version with up to 260 km range (WLTP test cycle) "   https://pushevs.com/2019/07/03/volkswagen-quietly-announces-the-new-e-up-for-2020/   ASTON MARTIN GIVES A GLIMPSE INTO ITS FUTURE IN LONDON "Aston Martin has been showcasing its electrified future in London, with two of its future models on display." reports Motor1.com: "The Rapide E, Aston Martin's first all-electric production car; and the Lagonda Vision concept which showcases the reborn brand and its future all-electric products have been on show this week at Aston Martin's central London showroom in Mayfair. The £250,000 Rapide E is Aston Martin's first all-electric production vehicle, and only 155 will be built."   https://uk.motor1.com/news/356858/aston-martin-evs-london/   LONDON: FIRST ELECTRIC BYD DOUBLE-DECKERS ARRIVE "Together with their British partner ADL, BYD has introduced the first of 37 new all-electric Enviro400EV double-decker buses. The first five buses have gone into service in London on Line 43." says electrive: "The Enviro400EV is based on the well-known Enviro200EV, but is larger. The new aluminium body is 10.9 metres long, 4.3 metres high and 2.55 metres wide. The bus is powered by wheel hub motors. The iron phosphate batteries have a capacity of up to 382 kWh, which enables a range of 250 kilometres, according to BYD."   https://www.electrive.com/2019/07/03/london-first-electric-byd-double-deckers-arrive/   2020 RENAULT CAPTUR BREAKS COVER WITH FAMILIAR LOOK, NEW TECH "the new Captur will also get a plug-in hybrid powertrain with up to 28 miles (45 kilometers) of purely electric range in mixed use. The so-called E-Tech mill features over 150 new patents from the French manufacturer and should become the segment’s first such offering when it debuts early next year."   https://www.motor1.com/news/357843/2020-renault-captur-unveiled/amp/   SOLAR POWER INSTALLATIONS TO INCREASE 1,600% THIS YEAR "NEWLY installed solar power will see a massive 1,600% increase in Spain this year, according to a leading renewable energy union." says the olivepress.es: "The Spanish Voltaic Union (UNEF) predicts the installation of 4,400 MW of solar power this year, up from just 261.7 MW in 2018. The newly installed power will be made up of 4,000 MW of power from large-scale plants, and 400 MW from personal consumers. The spokeswoman added that the repeal of the controversial ‘sun tax’ in April this year has opened the floodgates for new renewable energy. The stultifying tax was introduced in 2015 by Mariano Rajoy’s PP government and penalised houses with solar panels if they wished to remain connected to the national grid. This meant households with solar panels were reportedly paying around €70 per month to national energy companies – even if they never used any external power."   https://www.theolivepress.es/spain-news/2019/06/28/solar-power-installations-to-increase-1600-this-year-thanks-to-repeal-of-sun-tax-leading-industry-union-predicts/       COMMUNITY And thanks to MYEV.com they’ve set us another Question Of The Week. I was on the UK Model 3 configurator today, checking prices so I'm up to date. And on the final page they now present a new option for Solar + Storage: "Produce and store your own clean energy to power your home and charge your car, day and night."   A BATCH OF 250 TESLA POWERWALLS ARE GOING TO THE UK "Tesla has been having a tough time ramping up its Powerwall production, but we are now starting to see more projects including a new batch of 250 Tesla Powerwalls going to the UK." says electrek, quoting Tonik Energy: "Tonik Energy announces that they are the first UK energy supplier to offer the state-of-the-art Tesla Powerwall. Following a successful pilot programme, Tonik has commenced rolling out 250 Powerwalls to homes across the UK, with installations performed by their in-house team."   https://electrek.co/2019/06/04/tesla-powerwalls-going-uk/   GM, FIAT CHRYSLER ADMIT BUYING REGULATORY CREDITS "Amidst reports on Tesla’s varying stock price, sales, and competition, the news is that the electric car maker has been making good money by selling greenhouse gas credits to fellow carmakers." says ibtimes.com: "According to filings by General Motors (GM) and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) to the state of Delaware, GM's agreement with Tesla for greenhouse gas credits was inked on Feb. 25. The filings affirmed how established carmakers such as GM and Fiat Chrysler have been relying on Tesla to comply with the United States’ environmental regulations. Tesla has generated almost $2 billion in revenue from the sale of regulatory credits since 2010."   https://www.ibtimes.com/tesla-rescue-gm-fiat-chrysler-admit-buying-regulatory-credits-musks-company-2797469   VW'S FIRST ELECTRIC CAR ALREADY HAS OVER 20,000 RESERVATIONS "Preorders for Volkswagen's first production EV are running ahead of schedule. That's according to VW board member Jürgen Stackmann, who tweeted on Tuesday that the German automaker now has over 20,000 "pre-bookings" for its battery-powered ID 3 small car." reports CNET: "European order books for the five-door hatchback opened one month ago, and according to Stackmann, the German automaker was hoping to reach 30,000 reservations by the time the IAA -- the Frankfurt Motor Show -- opened its doors in mid-September. While 20,000 ID 3 reservations are a drop in the bucket compared to the 400,000-plus reservations that the Tesla Model 3 claimed upon its introduction, VW's total is somewhat encouraging, especially as reservations require a 1,000-euro refundable deposit (around $1,100, £885 and AU$1,610)."   https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/vw-id3-electric-car-reservations-ev/   2020 SEAT MII ELECTRIC REVEALED IN PRODUCTION FORM "SEAT has confirmed it will launch an electric version of its Mii city car in the autumn of this year, marking the brand’s first foray into the zero-emission market."says Motor1.com: "Offering a provisional range of 161.5 miles (260 kilometers) on a single charge and boasting an 82-horsepower electric motor like that of the VW e-Up!, the little runabout will be imaginatively named the Mii Electric. SEAT says the new model, which is based on the gasoline-powered Mii that shares so much with the Skoda Citigo and Volkswagen Up!, will mix “dynamism, urban design, an advanced powertrain, and new levels of connectivity with affordability and low cost of ownership. 6.8-kWh battery pack.
