Two months ago, a now-fired Sucker Punch developer lost her job due to an ill-timed social media post, and she's been fairly quiet ever since, at least until now. In a new article, artist Drew Harrison talks about what befell her, but -- truth be told -- she seems to have missed the biggest part of her own story: How much she could have (and did) harm the hundreds of other people that worked for years on Ghost of Yotei, only to disrupt the entire marketing roll-out of the game on the precipice of its hyped release. Let's revisit the situation with new context and insights, and see if we can make sense of whether her dismissal was fair, unfair, or perhaps just the product of the environment many industry professionals gleefully cheered on when the shoe was on the other foot. Plus: Death Stranding 2 gets an ESRB rating for a PC release, PlayStation 3 emulation is actively being worked on outside of Sony's walls, Stellar Blade 2 is abandoning PlayStation as its publishing partner, RAM price spikes threaten the future of console pricing, and more. Then: Listener inquiries! Did Sony's recent update to PlayStation Portal ruin the functionality of the PS button? What happened to the so-called "One Sony" initiative? Could an ex-Housemarque developer's new game spark a renewed love for arcade-style romps? What's the latest on the misadventures of an entity called Young Colin? This Day in Legal History: Rosa Parks ArrestedOn December 1, 1955, Rosa Parks was arrested in Montgomery, Alabama, for refusing to surrender her seat to a white passenger on a segregated city bus. Parks, a 42-year-old Black seamstress and longtime activist, had been sitting in the “colored” section when the driver demanded she move. Her quiet but firm defiance violated local segregation laws, which mandated racial separation in public transportation and required Black passengers to yield seats to white passengers when buses became crowded. Parks' arrest became a catalyst for the Montgomery Bus Boycott, a coordinated campaign to end racial segregation on public transit. The boycott began four days later, organized by the Montgomery Improvement Association, with a then-unknown Martin Luther King Jr. as its president. It lasted over a year, during which thousands of Black residents refused to use the city's buses, severely impacting the transit system's finances. The protest was not only a powerful act of collective resistance but also a carefully structured legal challenge. Civil rights attorneys, including Fred Gray, filed a federal lawsuit—Browder v. Gayle—on behalf of several Black women who had experienced bus segregation. In November 1956, the federal district court ruled that Montgomery's segregated bus system was unconstitutional under the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. The U.S. Supreme Court affirmed the decision, and on December 20, 1956, the boycott officially ended when the Court's ruling was implemented. Rosa Parks' arrest and the movement it sparked marked a turning point in the American civil rights struggle. Her individual act of resistance ignited a mass movement and set the stage for future legal and social change. The U.S. Supreme Court will hear a key copyright case today involving Cox Communications and several major record labels, including Sony, Warner, and Universal. The case centers on whether Cox can be held financially liable for allegedly enabling its users to illegally download music. A jury originally awarded the labels $1 billion in 2019 after finding Cox secondarily liable for over 10,000 copyright infringements, but the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals later reversed part of that decision, leading to a retrial on damages.Cox argues it shouldn't be held accountable for users' actions, warning that a ruling against it could force ISPs to terminate internet access for entire households or public institutions over alleged piracy. The company claims it reasonably handled piracy reports and criticized the notion that it failed to act. In contrast, the labels accuse Cox of ignoring thousands of infringement notices and protecting profitable repeat offenders while readily cutting off nonpaying customers.Big tech companies like Google, Amazon, and Microsoft have sided with Cox, suggesting that a ruling for the labels could harm the internet economy. Meanwhile, the Trump administration—represented by Solicitor General John Sauer—is supporting Cox's view that merely knowing about piracy isn't enough to establish liability. Industry groups in music, film, and publishing back the labels, arguing that Cox's stance threatens collaborative anti-piracy efforts. The Supreme Court's decision could reshape how ISPs respond to copyright violations.US Supreme Court to hear copyright dispute between Cox and record labels | ReutersFollowing a deadly shooting in Washington, D.C., involving an Afghan immigrant accused of killing a National Guard member, President Donald Trump has intensified efforts to restrict legal immigration. Within 48 hours of the attack, Trump paused Afghan immigration applications, launched a review of asylum approvals from the Biden era, and hinted at expanded vetting under his existing travel ban targeting 19 countries. These moves revive and build upon restrictive immigration policies from Trump's first term, now framed as necessary for national security.Critics argue the administration is exploiting a tragic but isolated incident to justify sweeping immigration rollbacks. Afghan advocacy groups stressed that Afghan immigrants undergo extensive vetting and should not be broadly blamed. While Trump and top officials suggested large-scale reforms—like ending federal benefits for non-citizens and denaturalizing those deemed a threat—federal agencies have so far announced more limited actions, such as case reviews for applicants from travel-ban countries.Legal experts warn that some of the proposed policies, including denying welfare to lawful residents and mass denaturalization, would likely be ruled unconstitutional. Nonetheless, the administration is signaling an aggressive stance, despite polls showing declining public approval of Trump's immigration policies. Meanwhile, Democrats accuse Trump of targeting law-abiding immigrants and using fear-based tactics for political gain.Trump sharpens focus on legal immigration after National Guard shooting | ReutersA federal judge's decision to ban generative AI from his chambers after an intern used it in a flawed court opinion has sparked debate over how technology should be used in the legal system. Judge Julien Neals of New Jersey attributed the error in a June ruling to a law student who used AI in violation of their school's policy, prompting Neals to prohibit AI use entirely among his staff. His response to Senator Chuck Grassley drew concern from legal academics and judges who argue that banning AI outright may be shortsighted.Proponents of AI in the judiciary say the technology, if used responsibly, could reduce case backlogs and improve efficiency amid staffing shortages. Judge Xavier Rodriguez of Texas ran an experiment comparing traditional opinion writing with AI-assisted drafting, showing significant time savings without sacrificing quality. He and others advocate for structured AI use, emphasizing vetting, fact-checking, and clear protocols to preserve judicial integrity.Magistrate Judge Allison Goddard and law professors like David Kemp suggest that instead of bans, institutions should focus on teaching students ethical and effective AI use. With many law students already accustomed to using generative AI, schools are scrambling to develop policies and training. Some institutions, like the University of Chicago Law School, have embraced AI integration, while others lag behind. The incident in Judge Neals' courtroom has become a wake-up call for courts and law schools to align on responsible AI use in legal education and practice.Judges' AI Blunders Spark Debate on Technology Use in CourtsLuigi Mangione, accused of killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in a high-profile shooting outside a Manhattan hotel, appeared in court today for key pretrial hearings. The 27-year-old, arrested in December 2024, has pleaded not guilty to murder and multiple related charges in both state and federal cases. The hearings will determine whether crucial evidence—including a 3-D printed gun, silencer, and journal writings found in Mangione's backpack—can be used at trial. His defense argues that the items were obtained through an illegal search during his arrest in Pennsylvania and that statements he made to police should also be excluded.Prosecutors dispute those claims and are seeking to admit the materials, which they argue implicate Mangione in the killing. Mangione, who has gained a controversial following among critics of the U.S. healthcare system, faces life in prison if convicted of second-degree murder. In a separate federal case, prosecutors intend to seek the death penalty. Earlier in September, two terrorism charges were dismissed after a judge ruled there was insufficient evidence Mangione intended to intimidate healthcare workers or influence government policy. The hearings, overseen by Judge Gregory Carro, are expected to last through the week and include testimony from arresting officers. No trial date has yet been set, and Mangione remains in federal custody in Brooklyn.Luigi Mangione due in court for pretrial hearings over US healthcare executive's killing | Reuters This is a public episode. For this extra weekend Kevin gathers up more hopeful future game ideas from part of the Trophy Talk cast and Discord. We start with a follow-up to Max's latest episode of the Moogle Cast where Kevin was a guest for a breakdown of the Bioshock series. This time he digs into an old folder on his hard drive to share an idea he had for a future game that would follow up Bioshock Infinite. While it still feels like Bioshock, it's a new concept, setting, and story that would include the epic and grand ideas that the series is known for. Then Max takes the stage and shares his extremely detailed design for what the next game for Astro Bot should be. He covers how it should help launch the PlayStation 6 in the same way Astro's Playroom helped the PlayStation 5 and also how it might redeem Sony's failed attempt at live-service games (eeeww). As detailed as some of Kevin's ideas have been, they are nothing compared to what Max has prepared for this game. To follow that up Jordan Vickers stops to pitch some of his ideas for three games that he wants to see. He starts off with a few easy concepts for games that sound like they are perfect new directions for the series they come from, and then pitches a third game that would reboot a long-dead game from the 90's that not many of us have heard of. After finding footage of it and seeing a trailer for a failed reboot, this game has to be made. Gary from the Platinum Achievements podcast then joins in to give some ideas for a few beloved series that already have plenty of games, but deserve even more spin-off ideas into other genres. After a few of these game ideas both Kevin and Gary realize they need to start a game studio because they seem to be so good at adding to each other's ideas. We hope you all have a great weekend and have a great time listening to some more of our lofty dream game ideas. Be excellent to each other!

We kick things off with evidence that Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is heading to PC far sooner than expected. A new ESRB rating has surfaced for the PC version—listing Sony Interactive Entertainment as the publisher—strongly suggesting a rapid turnaround similar to the first game's sub-one-year PC launch. With Kojima Productions expanding the franchise into animated films, A24 partnerships, and Disney+ series, the Death Stranding universe is entering its biggest era yet. Next, a 10-minute leak of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake has spilled online, showing early gameplay, mocap sessions, Farah's redesigned character concepts, and confirmation of two new locations built from the ground up. Ubisoft has been issuing copyright strikes, validating the footage's authenticity. Quality looks early-alpha, but it's the clearest look yet at the long-delayed remake's evolution. We then turn to huge internal rumblings at Bungie: credible leaks point to Destiny 3 being in extremely early development, reportedly positioned as a major tentpole release for the PS6 generation. This comes as Destiny 2 struggles with engagement, follows a $200 million write-down from Sony, and Marathon continues through testing before launch. With Destiny fatigue setting in, Bungie is under immense pressure to deliver a franchise reset. FLASH NEWS breaks down the rapid-fire updates you need to know: • Cyberpunk 2077 hits a massive 35 million units sold • A Far Cry TV series is officially in the works with Noah Hawley attached • PlayStation Plus December lineup revealed: LEGO Horizon Adventures, Killing Floor 3, The Outlast Trials, and Synduality Echo of Ada If you're here for PlayStation insights, industry leaks, and deep-dive coverage of the biggest stories in gaming, this episode has everything.

This week, the boys pick up DeNiro in between “The Mission” and “Goodfellas” when my man just wanted to have some FUN in “Midnight Run”, an action adventure comedy directed by Martin Brest (Beverly Hills Cop). The FBI, the cops, the mafia, bounty hunters, white collar crime, blue collar crime, smoking on airplanes…The movie looks real, the people are real, the car crashes are real, the helicopter is terrifyingly real, and DeNiro's comedy chops with Charles Grodin, Joe Pantoliano, Dennis Farina, Yaphet Kotto, and more. Trusting Your Magic with Biet Simkin, Spiritual Teacher & The David Bowie of Meditation

Join me for an extraordinary conversation with Biet Simkin, renowned spiritual teacher, bestselling author, and the self-proclaimed "David Bowie of meditation." Biet's journey from abject poverty in Queens with an awakened shaman father to becoming a sought-after spiritual guide earning seven figures is unlike anything you've heard before—and it will challenge everything you think you know about money, success, and destiny. In this raw and transformative episode, Biet shares her childhood growing up in a roach-infested tenement apartment after her mother died of pancreatic cancer, being raised by a father who believed love and consciousness were the only currencies that mattered. She was reading Carl Jung at nine years old, meditating deeply, and already convinced she possessed magic—even as she cried every day at public school where she was punched for seeming "too intelligent." Biet takes us through getting signed to Sony at 18, watching her music career collapse as the industry imploded, and descending into drugs, alcohol, and dating "the wrong men" as a DJ in New York's party scene. But after the devastating loss of her four-month-old daughter to SIDS, followed by her best friend's suicide, her father's death, and her house burning down, Biet found sobriety—and with it, her true calling. She reveals how she went from earning $12,000 a year (living on $1,000 a month in NYC) to $170,000 in one year, then tripling to over $400,000, and eventually hitting seven figures—all without following conventional business advice, creating funnels, or doing what everyone said she "should" do. Instead, she trusted her magic, priced herself like Picasso, and believed the quantum field would deliver. This episode is for anyone who's ever been told they're "too much," too spiritual, too unconventional—and for those ready to stop apologizing for their gifts and start claiming their worth. Key Topics: Why being raised in "abject poverty" by an awakened shaman became her greatest blessing The dangerous lesson: when you're taught that money is shameful and love is the only real currency From signed at Sony to career collapse: navigating the music industry implosion without a safety net How devastating loss and trauma became the portal to sobriety and spiritual awakening The moment her partner asked to see her numbers—and why shame kept her hiding from financial truth Going from $12,000/year to six figures by trusting her magic instead of business gurus The Picasso pricing philosophy: "I said so, therefore it's worth it" Why sales and marketing are spiritual practices—and how to sell yourself without apology   Connect with Biet online: Website: https://www.bietsimkin.com Instagram: @bietsimkin   Find more from Syama Bunten: Instagram: @syama.co, @gettingrichpod Website: wealthcatalyst.com Podcast: wealthcatalyst.com/getting-rich-together-podcast Download Syama's Free Resources: wealthcatalyst.com/resources Wealth Catalyst Summit: wealthcatalyst.com/summits Speaking: syamabunten.com Big Delta Capital: www.bigdeltacapital.com

PlayStation has had an interesting year, where its smaller output in terms of first-party releases has not hurt it at all in terms of console sales. The gaming giant has made several future-facing announcements, one of which includes the existence of PlayStation 6 not that far down the line. Sean and Marc look into PlayStation's year from its games to its other media endeavors and what things look like heading into the looming 2026. An interesting take from Strauss Zelnick that we are headed to a PC future may mean that Xbox is right? But will it be the leader on that end? As two different anecdotal reports state that the recently announced Steam Machine may not be as price-friendly as many were hoping it would be. Could it be compounded by this ongoing memory shortage? Also, Xbox had its Partner Preview event, which included an interesting list of games. Not to mention, its weird announcement of Xbox Crocs that came out today as well. Marc has spent some time with Once Upon a Katamari, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is down sales-wise, while Battlefield 6 and Arc Raiders are booming in its stead. All of this and more on this edition of Video Games 2 the MAX! Last year, Sony launched it's service-based third-person shooter Concord, and it bombed worse than virtually any PlayStation-developed title in history. In fact, it was received so poorly that Sony disappeared it off the market in a matter of two weeks, gave everyone their money back, and snuffed the entire project out of existence while closing the studio that made it. Fast-forward more than a year, though, and Concord has kinda-sorta returned. Tech-savvy enthusiasts have revived the game on private servers, but Sony has already caught wind of it all and are working to nip it in the bud. Do we really need Concord to return? Why does Sony care if it does? And why do smart people work so diligently on things they don't own or have control over? Plus: Black Friday will be exceptionally nice for those looking for PlayStation hardware, accessories, and games, Sony dominates The Game Awards nominations with 19, Bungie prods its playerbase for ideas on how to improve Destiny 2, EA's F1 series is taking a year hiatus, possibly indicating the future of EA Sports, Peacock renews Twisted Metal for a third season, and more. Then: Listener inquiries! Do we keep the physical boxes for our gaming hardware? Would Sony ever revive The Legend of Dragoon? How does one navigate gaming's ragebait culture? But the whirlwind of 24/7 news cycles and the pressures of telling human stories in rural news deserts have not deterred today's guest, Keren Carrión, a photojournalist and short form video producer currently working on the NPR visuals team. Follow along as we chart Keren's evolution from stills to documentary video stories to vertical social media clips that can be absorbed in two minutes or less. We also learn about the many opportunities for feedback and career advancement she's explored, and the mix of internships and mentorship programs that have been central to her career success. When asked about parting advice for current students she notes, "I think it's really important to have a visual voice. And the only way to find that is to keep shooting. Yeah. And I will also say meet with as many people as possible, be mentored, go to portfolio reviews figure out how to elevate that voice."   Guest: Keren Carrión Episode Timeline: 2:28: Keren's early photo experiences, pairing pictures with stories for her high school paper. 5:05: Adding video to the mix in college and how this has influenced her storytelling. 10:40: Keren's advice to college students: Seek out networking and internship opportunities. 12:17: Momenta Workshops and other non-profit mentorship programs, and how these opportunities can shape creative vision and skills. 20:20: Working with Report for America in Texas, covering under-reported stories and rural news deserts. 26:22: The evolution of news media and Keren's work at NPR to create short form videos for distribution across social media platforms. 31:12: Keren's current gear, from iPhones to Sony mirrorless cameras, for shooting vertical videos 35:32: Non-traditional news reporting and how user-generated content is now shared by larger news organizations. 38:28: Keren's future aspirations to evolve with the industry and learn new skills as platforms and audiences change. 39:56: More advice for the next generation: Keep shooting to find and elevate your visual voice.   Guest Bio: Keren Carrión is a photojournalist and a short-form video producer currently working on the NPR visuals team. Originally from Puerto Rico, Keren graduated from George Washington University in 2019 with a BFA in Photojournalism. Prior to her current role, she spent two years as a photojournalist for KERA News, NPR's affiliate station in Dallas through Report for America. She has also worked with CNN as a video editor in Atlanta, and interned with Univision, USA Today, The Hill, and the New York Times Student Journalism Institute. Additionally, Keren is an alumna of the Eddie Adams Workshop and Momenta Photo Workshop's Project Puerto Rico. When Keren isn't working, she's probably sitting in the window seat of an airplane, heading to a new destination. If not, you can always find her with a camera in hand — or petting the nearest dog.   Stay Connected: Keren Carrión Website: https://www.kerencarrion.com Keren Carrión Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/kerencarrionphoto Keren Carrión on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/keren-carrion  Keren Carrión at Report for America: https://www.reportforamerica.org/members/keren-carrion/ Keren Carrión at NPR: https://www.npr.org/people/1213266959/keren-carrion   Credits: Host: Derek Fahsbender Senior Creative Producer: Jill Waterman Senior Technical Producer: Mike Weinstein Executive Producer: Richard Stevens

This week delivers one of the biggest news drops of the year across PlayStation, Xbox, and the wider gaming industry. We break down PlayStation's massive Black Friday 2025 deals, including $100 off PS5 consoles (Standard, Digital, and Pro), major discounts on PSVR2, PlayStation Portal, DualSense controllers, Pulse headsets, and more. We also cover the huge PlayStation Plus sale, plus deep cuts on hundreds of digital PS5 and PS4 games—just in time for holiday shopping. But that's only the start. Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is stumbling hard out of the gate. UK physical sales are down 61% compared to Black Ops 6, Steam concurrency is far below expectations, and Activision appears to be quietly hiding player-count data. We look at what's causing the drop—AI art controversy, campaign reception, franchise fatigue—and what it means for Call of Duty going forward. We also dive into the Game Awards 2025 nominations, where indies dominate the field. A living room PC that wants to be your next console, a cloned dog that raises bigger questions than it answers, and a museum heist made possible by the world's laziest password. That's the lineup we tackle as we break down the most head-scratching, revealing tech stories of the week with equal parts clarity and humor. We start with Valve's Steam machine: a sleek, SteamOS-powered box aiming for 4K/60 on your TV. We unpack the real-world hurdles—8GB VRAM limits, upgrade ambiguity, and the make-or-break pricing line—while noting the window of opportunity as Sony stays quiet on PS6 and Microsoft doubles down on cloud and subscriptions. If Valve can balance performance, cost, and openness, they might just rewrite the console conversation. From there, the show gets wonderfully weird—and instructive. Tom Brady's reported dog clone spotlights the gap between genetics and identity. A Russian humanoid robot faceplants onstage, underscoring how hard dynamic stabilization really is. A Florida homeowner learns her address has been hijacked by a fake garage-door business, the kind of “legitimacy theater” scam that thrives on stolen photos and Google listings. And a payroll glitch sends $87,000 to a factory worker who spends first and argues later, setting up a courtroom lesson in what “salary” really means. We also get practical: holiday travel phishing is spiking, with fake Booking, Expedia, and Airbnb pages skimming cards in seconds. We share simple, effective defenses: go direct to official apps, inspect URLs, and enable card alerts. Then we pour Elijah Craig Barrel Proof B520 and compare notes—rich chocolate, caramel, and spice at a hefty 127.2 proof—while reflecting on why the Nintendo Wii's motion-first design still matters. To top it off, Kia's gas-scented EV air freshener proves sensory nostalgia can be a clever bridge to cleaner tech. The jaw-dropper comes from Paris: a Louvre security failure reportedly tied to a camera password you could guess in two tries. It's a blunt reminder that protecting treasures requires basic cyber hygiene: strong unique credentials, MFA, segmentation, and monitoring. Whether you're guarding crown jewels or your photo library, the fundamentals are non-negotiable.Enjoy the ride, share a laugh, and leave with takeaways you can use—from buying choices to security habits. If you're into smart tech talk without the jargon, hit follow, share with a friend, and drop us a review with your hot take: would you buy Valve's Steam machine for your living room?Support the show

PlayStation 5 has officially turned five, giving us much to reflect upon. Has the console lived up to its potential, left folks disappointed, or fallen somewhere in between? We get into that -- alongside new Sony financials that paint an admittedly rosy picture -- before getting into the meat of our show. Two new Sony-aligned games have been revealed, but they've left many potential players puzzled, as neither offering is actually on PlayStation hardware. For starters, NCSoft's long-rumored Horizon MMO is real. It's called Steel Frontiers and it actually looks really nice. But it's only on PC and mobile. Meanwhile, a new Ratchet & Clank game has also been showcased, an online arena shooter called Ranger Rumble. But it too eschews PS5 and PS4, instead going straight to mobile platforms only. What gives? Why does Sony seem half-in on these off-platform initiatives, all the while neglecting their core audience that could give these respective titles the boost they need? Is it time for them to break old habits and embrace a more cogent multiplatform direction that centers PlayStation first and foremost? Plus: Sony's new 27" gaming monitor has people intrigued, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Spirits is getting another closed test, Elden Ring: Nightreign is receiving some much-needed DLC, and more. Then: Listener inquiries! What do we think of Valve's new Steam Machine PC-console hybrid? In any given game's menus, where should subtitle options be nestled: General, Audio, or Graphics? Does ARC Raiders success potentially benefit Marathon? Is Dustin wielding his power over Brad in unsavory ways?
