It's hard to meet a famous person, but if that famous person writes a book, you get the best of that person, and you get to sit there in the comfort of your own home and that's like, 'How am I with this person that's telling me all their secrets?' They put everything in the book, and so Prabhupāda did the same thing. He said, 'If you want to know me and everything I had to say, read my books.' And he personally told a few of us—I was there with Keśava Bhāratī Mahārāja and myself and a couple of other devotees in San Francisco circa 1974—and our temple president gave the book distribution report, and then Prabhupāda looked at us, and he said, 'You must also read my books. I have not written them just for selling. I have written them for you to become a pure devotee and go back home, back to Godhead.' Thunderbolt! So that's what we're doing, purposefully coming to 'THE' place on the planet, which our authorities say is better than Rādhākuṇḍa, in a way, because from here we're like this (folded hands) 'to Rādhākuṇḍa. We stay here at Rādhākuṇḍa with Śrī Kṛṣṇa Mahārāja and his exalted devotees, and we just hear from Prabhupāda's books, and we discuss- 'smarantaḥ smārayantaś ca, 'and from that sādhana, then comes the emergence of bhāva. It comes naturally, so that's why we are here. Ways of Knowing: Oral Histories on the Worlds Words Create (Litwin Books, 2025) sits at the heart of the library project, shaping how materials are described and organized and how they can be retrieved. The field has long understood that normative systems like Dewey Decimal and Library of Congress do this inadequately and worse, deploying language and categories that are rooted in white supremacy, patriarchy, and U.S. imperialism. In Ways of Knowing, Emily Drabinski and Amanda Belantara present unique and timely oral histories of alternative thesauri created in response to the inadequacies and biases embedded within widely adopted standards in libraries. The oral histories tell the stories behind the thesauri through the narratives of the people who created them, revealing aspects of thesauri work that ordinarily are overlooked or uncovered. The set of oral histories included in the volume document the Chicano Thesaurus, A Women's Thesaurus, and Homosaurus. Drabinski and Belantara recorded hour-long oral histories with two representatives from each project, documenting the origins of each thesaurus, the political and social context from which they emerged, and the processes involved in their development and implementation. Introductory essays provide a context for each thesaurus in the history of information and activism in libraries. The book and accompanying digital files constitute the first primary source of its kind and a unique contribution to the history of metadata work in libraries. Capturing these stories through sound recording offers new ways of understanding the field of critical cataloging and classification as we hear the joy, frustration, urgency, and seriousness of critical metadata work. For 11 years, Baker’s been the heart and soul of her HOSA chapter. Her chapter’s done it all—blood drives, parade floats, Stop the Bleed certifications, and sending students to Internationals in events like Biomedical Debate. STORY 2: Gwinnett tops national mean score on SAT, but trails most metro neighbors   Gwinnett County Public Schools is celebrating its Class of 2025 SAT scores for beating the national average—1003 compared to 996—but the story’s a bit more complicated. While the district outpaced the nation, it fell short of Georgia’s state average (1029) and ranked seventh among 12 Metro RESA districts. Schools like Decatur City (1181) and Forsyth County (1178) left Gwinnett in the dust. Interim Superintendent Dr. Al Taylor remains optimistic. Bright spots? GSMST (1360) and North Gwinnett (1165). But some schools, like Meadowcreek (836), are struggling. STORY 3: Housing Matters: Rainbow Village breaks ground on expansion  Big things are happening at Rainbow Village. On Sept. 29, they broke ground on a major campus expansion that’ll more than double their capacity to help homeless families—going from 30 transitional apartments to 66. Families who live there get more than just a roof over their heads. They learn how to budget, tackle debt, and save for the future. Utilities and internet? Covered.
