What if stress isn't actually the problem? What if the real issue is that your body never got to finish the stress response? In this episode, we revisit one of the most powerful conversations we've ever had on the podcast: why healing isn't about becoming calm all the time and how sacred rage, movement, and emotional expression may actually be the missing piece to your healing. Using the archetype of the Hindu goddess Kali, we explore the difference between suppression and regulation, why so many yogis get stuck in spiritual bypassing, and how somatic practices help the body finally complete the stress cycle. We explore:

Fear Is the Quiet Devil in Divorce (Here's How to Stop Letting It Run the Show)Divorce is scary. Not because every fear is true, but because fear has a way of convincing us that the worst-case scenario is right around the corner. In this mini episode of How Not to Suck at Divorce, Andrea Rappaport explores why fear becomes one of the most powerful forces during the divorce process—and how you can stop it from controlling your decisions.Get The $50 Divorce Crash Course. Drawing on insights about nervous system regulation, anxiety, and personal experience, Andrea explains why confidence doesn't come from feeling fearless. It comes from collecting evidence that you can do hard things and survive them.If you're feeling overwhelmed by attorney consultations, difficult conversations, legal decisions, or uncertainty about the future, this episode will help you understand how fear works—and how to move forward anyway. In This EpisodeWhy fear becomes so powerful during divorceHow your nervous system learns through evidence, not reassuranceThe connection between confidence and small winsWhy tackling smaller fears helps prepare you for bigger challengesHow knowledge and information reduce anxietyThe role of curiosity in overcoming fearWhy waiting is one of the hardest parts of divorceHow catastrophic thinking keeps you stuckThe surprising benefits of positive daydreamingHow to calm your brain before making important decisionsKey Takeaways✔️ Fear loses power when you gather evidence that you can handle difficult situations.✔️ Confidence is built through action, not certainty.✔️ Small challenges train your nervous system to tolerate bigger ones.✔️ Knowledge reduces fear because uncertainty fuels anxiety.✔️ Divorce decisions are easier when your nervous system is regulated.✔️ Catastrophizing is a habit—not a prediction.✔️ You are allowed to imagine positive outcomes too.✔️ Calm first. Then apply the tools.A Practical ExerciseThink about one thing you're afraid of during your divorce. Now don't tackle that thing first.Instead, ask yourself:What's one smaller thing I can do today that feels slightly uncomfortable but manageable?Maybe it's:Scheduling an attorney consultationPosting in a support groupAsking a question you've been avoidingCompleting paperwork you've been putting offSetting a small boundaryEvery action becomes evidence. And evidence creates confidence.Divorce Doesn't Require FearlessnessYou do not have to become fearless to get through divorce. You only need enough evidence to remind yourself:"I've survived 100% of the difficult things I've faced so far."You can survive this too.Divorce Crash CourseLooking for practical guidance, legal insights, and emotional support during divorce? Our Divorce Crash Course walks you through the biggest mistakes people make during divorce, how to save money on attorney fees, what to expect during the process, and how to make smarter decisions when emotions are running high.Typically priced at $150, available now for $50 thanks to our angel underwriters, Our Family Wizard and SoberLink.

Welcome to a new episode of ASMR Sleep Recordings. In this episode, you will hear gentle rain.Improve your health and happiness. The sound you hear in this episode creates a calm atmosphere and at the same time blocks out disturbing noises. This will help you de-stress, unwind, and rest. Enjoy two hours of relaxing sounds to help you relax, focus, study and fall asleep.About ASMR Sleep Recordings:The purpose of ASMR Sleep Recording is to help you sleep and concentrate better. This particular episode lasts two hours and has no ads in the middle, so you won't be woken up or disturbed while focusing or relaxing. When you listen to ASMR Sleep Recordings, you can lock your phone, so you won't get any bothersome stimuli from notifications and other sounds from your phone. You can switch between apps while studying or working without pausing the ambient sound.About our sounds:Water creates a natural white noise. Infused with the relaxing quality of nature and the sound-masking properties of white noise, listening to running water is an ideal way to turn off all the stressful things life brings, and to de-stress. Some of our most popular sounds include a river, flowing creek, babbling brook, gentle waves on a lake, and a bamboo fountain. Rain also creates a natural white noise. Infused with the relaxing quality of nature and the sound-masking properties of white noise, listening to rain is an ideal way to switch off all the stressful things life brings and to de-stress. Some of our most popular sounds are rain on an umbrella, hailstorms, hard rain, soft rain, gentle rain, wind and rain, rain on a car.White noise helps babies and children to get a better and deeper night's sleep. This is because external sounds are masked by the noise. With white noise in the background, your child will not hear annoying cars driving by or dogs barking in bed. This allows your little one to sleep better. And it also saves you as a parent a lot of hours!Pink noise is more common in nature than you might expect. It can be compared to continuous rainfall or wind. In addition to white noise, pink noise is also increasing in popularity, especially in business environments. Because it can increase productivity, concentration and creativity.Brown noise can be compared to waves of the sea, a river current, strong winds or the sound of thunder during a storm. Like pink noise, brown noise is very similar to white noise. However, the frequencies have been lowered even further and a lot more concentrated. This gives it a rougher/coarse tone than pink noise. It sounds a bit deeper and a bit bass-like. The benefits of brown noise are the same as the other types of noise. It provides relaxation, increased focus and improved deep sleep.DISCLAIMER: Be aware that loud noises can damage your hearing. If you can't carry on a conversation without raising your voice while playing one of our spheres, the sound may be too loud for your ears. Do not place the speakers directly next to a baby's ears. If you have trouble hearing or ringing in your ears, stop listening to the white noise immediately and see an audiologist or your doctor. The sounds provided by ASMR Sleep Recordings are for entertainment purposes only and are not a treatment for sleep disorders or tinnitus. Consult your doctor if you regularly have severe sleeping problems, experience fitful/restless sleep or feel tired during the day.ASMR Sleep Recordings is the white noise and nature sounds podcast to help you sleep, study or soothe a baby. ASMR Sleep Recordings has uploaded more than 400+ episodes in the 4 years that the podcast has been online. You can listen to all episodes of the podcast on your favorite podcast platform. This podcast has the sound for you, whether you're using white noise to study, to soothe a baby with cramps, to fall asleep, or to just enjoy a quiet moment. Three Pillars of the Calm, Confident, Consistent Leadership Loop Each pillar of the loop is distinct. Pillar One: Calm — Leading from a Regulated Nervous System What Calm Leadership Looks Like in Practice What Calm Parenting Leadership Looks Like Pillar Two: Confidence — Leading from Identity, Not Performance What Confident Leadership Looks Like in Practice What Confident Parenting Leadership Looks Like Pillar Three: Consistency — The Foundation of Trust What Consistent Leadership Looks Like in Practice What Consistent Parenting Leadership Looks Like The Neuroscience Behind the Calm, Confident, Consistent Loop Faith as the Foundation of the Calm, Confident, Consistent Loop Scripture Verses for The Calm, Confident, and Consistent Leadership Loop Isaiah 26:3 Philippians 4:13 Joshua 1:9 Romans 12:2 Proverbs 31:25 Psalm 23:1–3 Philippians 1:6 How Christian Women in Leadership Access and Sustain the Calm, Confident, Consistent Loop Entering this loop is not a one-time event. It is a daily practice of choosing regulation over reaction, truth over comparison, and trust over control. Here is how to build and sustain it. 1. Regulate Your Nervous System as a Daily Practice 2. In Your Parenting Calm becomes their foundation. Consistency becomes their security. And confidence in who God made you to be becomes the model they carry into their own lives. In this episode, Charlotte explains how prolonged caregiving can train the nervous system to normalize hypervigilance, mistrust calm, and brace for the next crisis even when nothing is wrong in the moment. She talks about why rest can feel unfamiliar, why quiet can trigger scanning instead of ease, and why this response is not a personal failure but an intelligent adaptation to living inside ongoing uncertainty. Charlotte also shares a simple grounding practice to help you notice when your body is waiting for something to happen and begin collecting a different kind of evidence: that sometimes quiet is just quiet.

Have you ever woken up with a racing heart, a tight chest, or a sudden, overwhelming sense of dread? Whether it hits at 3:00 AM or in the middle of a Tuesday meeting, a panic attack can feel like a medical emergency. In today's episode, we deconstruct the physiology of panic and provide you with the clinical tools to outlast the wave and return to calm.I'm Martin, a clinical hypnotherapist and former paramedic. After betrayal, it is natural to want the whole map before you move. You want to know if your marriage can be saved, if they are telling the truth, whether you will regret staying or leaving, and if you will ever feel like yourself again. But what if the map does not appear until you move? In this episode, Lora Cheadle shares a story from her 10-year podcast anniversary trip to New York, where her GPS kept spinning and recalculating until she finally started walking. That moment became the perfect metaphor for betrayal recovery: standing still does not always create clarity. Sometimes movement creates clarity. Through stories from New York, Broadway, The Wizard of Oz, Wicked, and her own betrayal recovery journey, Lora explores why healing requires more than listening, learning, or waiting to see what your partner will do. Healing requires a path, a plan, support, and the willingness to take the next step. If you are tired of spiraling, eroding your boundaries, betraying yourself to keep the peace, or waiting for someone else to become clear before you reclaim your own life, this episode will help you understand why it is time to stop waiting for the map to appear and take the path.   Top 3 Takeaways The map may not appear until you move. After betrayal, it is tempting to wait for certainty before taking action. But clarity often comes through movement, not before it. Listening is not the same as having a plan. Podcasts, books, therapy, and support groups can all be helpful, but gathering information is not the same as walking a structured recovery path. You do not have to walk the path alone. Healing after betrayal requires heart, head, courage, support, and action. Like Dorothy gathering companions along the Yellow Brick Road, you need people and a process to help you move forward.   Favorite Quote “The map will not appear until you move. Cravings can feel random.Like they come out of nowhere.Like something is wrong with you.But what I want you to understand in this episode is this:Cravings are not about willpower. They are about physiology.More specifically — they are driven by hormones responding to your stress, sleep, food patterns, and emotional state. Why Cravings Feel So ConfusingOne of the biggest frustrations with cravings is that they don't come from just one place. They are influenced by:Stress signalsBlood sugar patternsHunger hormonesSleep qualityReward pathwaysThis is why cravings feel unpredictable…but once you understand them, they are actually very patterned.Stress Is Driving More Than You ThinkYour body is constantly responding to stress. And it doesn't distinguish between:being chasedbeing overwhelmedworrying about your weightstepping on the scaleIt all registers the same.So when you're thinking:“I need to lose weight”“I shouldn't have eaten that”“I'm out of control”Your body hears: stressAnd stress creates a demand for energy. That demand shows up as cravings. Why You Crave Sugar and Quick FoodsWhen your body is in a constant “go” state:It releases energy into your bloodstreamYour brain expects that energy to be usedIf it's not used, your body pushes you to consume moreThis is why you crave:sugarsalty snacksrefined carbsNot because you lack discipline —but because your body is trying to keep up with perceived demand. The Blood Sugar LoopOnce you respond to cravings:Blood sugar risesStorage hormones kick inBlood sugar dropsAnother craving beginsThis creates a loop:Craving → spike → crash → cravingThis is where things start to feel out of control. But it's not random. It's biological.5. How Sleep Makes Cravings WorseWhen this pattern continues into the evening:Late eatingBlood sugar spikesDisrupted sleepThe next day:You feel hungrierYou feel less satisfiedCravings feel strongerSleep loss amplifies hunger and reduces fullness.6. Why You Feel Hungry Even After EatingThere's a disconnect many people feel:You eat…but you're still not satisfied. This happens when your body becomes resistant to fullness signals. So instead of:“I've had enough”Your body keeps saying:“Keep going.”This is not a mindset problem. It's a signaling problem.7. The Pattern Most People MissA very common pattern I see:Not eating much during the dayEating most of your food at nightAnd then trying to “fix” nighttime eating. But the truth is:The reset doesn't happen at night. The reset happens the next morning.8. The Shift That Changes EverythingInstead of:restrictingcontrollingfighting cravingsI want you to focus on:Supporting your body earlier in the dayEven something small:a light breakfasta simple mealconsistent nourishmentThis helps:stabilize energyregulate your rhythmreduce cravings laterStruggling with emotional or binge eating? Many professionals believe confidence comes from doing more — more preparation, more control, and more effort to manage anxiety. But real change often looks very different. In this episode, Anna Manning explores what happens when situations at work that used to trigger anxiety — meetings, presentations, or high-pressure conversations — start to feel noticeably easier.Instead of trying to perform confidence or stay in control of anxiety, something shifts. You feel more present, more steady, and less internally preoccupied. To bring this to life, Anna shares four real client shifts from anxiety to ease, including experiences of board meetings and exec meetings, presentations and public speaking, and delivering training.Across all examples, the pattern is the same: where there was once anxiety and overthinking, there is now calm focus and ease.We also explore why this shift happens from a nervous system perspective — and why “feeling natural” is often what real confidence looks like in practice. Not forced. Not managed. Just easier.Want to be more Confident At Work?Start here: take our free: Confidence Assessment Get private support to feel confident at work - book a call to explore private coaching  Explore and join the Confident At Work Programme - https://www.yesyoucoaching.com/confident-at-work-programmeCover art by Jacob McFaddenTheme song by Melissa Carter @ Making Audio Magic

Your Next Best Step: Helping Small Business owners build a plan for a brighter future

It's Black Friday. The busiest shopping and dining day of the year, in a town known for being the Christmas city, packed with people in from out of town. Theresa had just hosted Thanksgiving — a houseful of family and friends — and all she wanted that afternoon was to finish cleaning up and sit down with a glass of wine. Not think about anything. Five minutes after she said it out loud, the phone rang.   "Teresa, it's raining in the basement. We don't know what to do. It's brown water."   She lived an hour away. So she drove. The whole way up wondering what she was about to walk into. A restaurant packed. A retail store packed. A city packed. And in the basement, water pouring out from under a door — brown — heading straight for the inventory.   By the time she got down there, one of the restaurant managers was already on the stairs. In a garbage bag. Kitchen gloves on. Holding a spatula. "T, we can do this. We got this. I Googled how to fix a pipe." It was a sewage pipe. And Theresa is a germaphobe.   Here's what most people would have done: run. Theresa did the opposite. She leaned in. She started assessing — first, second, third. Call the plumber. Call the remediation company on a holiday weekend. Save the inventory. Call the owner, who was in Mexico. And make sure nobody upstairs ever found out.   They didn't fix the pipe themselves, by the way. She threw her sneakers out and drove home barefoot in the snow. But the business never skipped a beat on the busiest day of the year — because the right things were already in place.   That flooded basement became one of the stories that taught Theresa what it actually takes to run a business in a crisis. It comes down to four things: presence, people, processes, and perseverance. The only thing we ever really control is the effort we put in and how we choose to face the moment when it breaks.   So here's the real question. It was never whether a crisis like this would happen — because it will. It's whether you have the presence, the people, the processes, and the perseverance to walk through it and come out the other side completely intact.   Key Takeaways: • Crisis isn't the question — it's coming no matter what. The real question is whether you have the leadership and systems in place to walk through it and get to the other side completely intact. • The only thing you truly control is the effort you put in and how you face the moment. You can run from the crisis, or you can lean into it. • Presence is leadership when it's hard. It's being the person they call because they know you'll figure it out — not the leader who panics and waits for someone else to handle it. • People matter most in the breakdown. The right team thinks critically and creatively under pressure, brings diversity of thinking, and keeps the business from bottlenecking on you. • Processes are the skeleton that holds everything upright. Real operational structure is what let the restaurant and store keep running on Black Friday while the basement flooded — business continuity in action. • Perseverance is radical resilience — the 6th gear. Cry for a moment, get frustrated for a moment, then shift into the strategic, critical, creative-solution brain and keep moving. • Good leaders bring calm into the chaos, not more chaos into the chaos. Intention beats running around like a chicken with its head cut off. • Every business owner has a version of this story — a pipe, a fridge going down, people quitting, COVID. What separates them is what they put in place before it hit.   Timestamps / Chapter Markers: 00:00   The one question — what crisis taught you how to run your business? 01:30   Why this story is in the upcoming book 02:21   Picture this: Black Friday, the Christmas city, the busiest weekend of the year 03:40   "It's raining in the basement. LEARN HOW TO JOURNALSPEAK In this episode, we dive into what it really means to move through life in alignment, especially when stress, symptoms, anxiety, and overwhelm are all trying to pull you into fear. I share a recent experience from my own life, during a season of major transition, travel, work, family milestones, and my youngest child graduating high school, when a strange new neuropathy-like sensation showed up in my face. Instead of spiraling, Dr. Googling (or Dr. ChatGPTing!), or giving the symptom a terrifying meaning, I used it as an opportunity to practice the work in real time: pausing, noticing, refusing to meet it with fear, and asking what my body might actually be trying to communicate. What came through was not danger, but a need for tenderness, self-compassion, and a gentler way of being with myself. I also share the story of sitting with a dear friend who is struggling with POTS, chronic fatigue, dizziness, nausea, and intense nervous system symptoms, and what happened when she was willing to meet those sensations differently. Rather than collapse into the first reaction of terror, she practiced sitting up, letting the symptoms be there, and discovering that uncomfortable does not have to mean unsafe. This episode is about the life-changing power of the pause between your first reaction and your second one. Your first reaction may be a reflex, shaped by everything you have lived, but your second reaction is where your agency lives. When we stop running from symptoms and begin meeting them with curiosity, compassion, and steadiness, we teach the nervous system that we are safe. Join us! XOOX n. I also share an exciting announcement: Lisa and I will be teaching at Miraval Austin from September 25–27 for a relaxing, immersive retreat experience rooted in this work. Barry Diller's People Inc. just offered $18 billion to take MGM Resorts private, days after Fertitta agreed to buy Caesars. MGM's own CFO didn't argue the company was fairly valued — he argued investors aren't doing the work. Ben, Scott, and Edwin debate whether public markets are simply too lazy to underwrite experience-driven hospitality, and what the next-generation casino actually looks like. Then: the deal that almost rewrote the industry. On a recent podcast, Airbnb's former Chief Strategy Officer Chip Conley revealed that Marriott and Airbnb spent six months negotiating a major partnership in 2016 — including talk of earning and burning Bonvoy points on Airbnb stays — before Marriott's owners killed it. Was it the most expensive "no" in hospitality history? Plus: Zach got access to Odesia, the AI travel search platform from Sonder's co-founder that just landed $6M from Sequoia — and it's the best AI trip-planning experience he's seen, full stop. And a new survey of 2,000 travelers reveals what premium guests will actually pay more for: quiet rooms, verified sustainability, and tech that connects rather than dazzles. Spoiler — it's a home-field advantage for independents. Spice of the Week covers a sandwich shop that turned away revenue over a tiny dog, why full hotels fool owners into thinking their marketing works, the OTA-fee budget shell game, and Zach's big announcement: Journey's new strategic partnership with Cloudbeds. This Week in Hospitality is presented to you by Journey. Journey is a loyalty platform built specifically for independent boutique hotels and high-touch hospitality brands. One prom-night emergency.A week in the hospital with my daughter.A college move-out.A college graduation.A forgotten passport.A magazine launch. And somehow, through it all, I stayed present. In this episode, I'm sharing what the past month taught me about time, planning, capacity, and what it really means to "have it all."The biggest lesson wasn't about getting more done. It was about learning how to hold more without losing myself in the process.I'll take you behind the scenes of a month that felt like a year and share why I believe momentum and calm aren't opposites. In fact, we need both.If you've ever felt like one unexpected event could derail everything, this episode is for you. This is part 2 of a conversation that's on one subject - the foundation lesson that I call the grown-ups are talking, please don't interrupt. In several recent podcasts Dominique has said this is her favorite behavior. That's a strong statement to make, so we both thought we should have a conversation where she gets to explain why she likes grown-ups so very much. It turns out we both have a lot to say about grown-ups. In Part 1 I got us started by describing the behavior I'm referring that I call the grown-ups are talking, please don't interrupt. We ended that episode by saying that we aren't just looking for a particular head orientation, but we are looking for the whole expression of the horse because we want to build calmness and a deep all-is-well relaxation into the behavior. In Part 2 we describe how you go about creating not just a horse who stands still when asked, but one who is relaxed, confident and at ease when doing so. We include some handling tips for building duration. Building duration helps expand the base behavior of grown-ups. It transforms basic grown-ups into ground tying, meaning your horse remains in stillness while you move around him and perform tasks such as grooming, foot care, saddling, etc. We explain what it means for grown-ups to be an off switch for other behaviors. And we end with the way grown-ups can be used to teach great balance. We can use grown-ups to normalize the feel of standing in balance.
