The last couple of weeks for Bungie have been nothing short of catastrophic, calling into question whether their upcoming extraction shooter Marathon has any chance at all in finding market success. We've long discussed whether Sony should have bought Bungie at all (they shouldn't have), but now that they're so deeply invested, how do they get the team out of this mess? And what does all of this hullabaloo -- about stolen art, poorly-reviewed gameplay, and lackluster audience reaction -- say about the team's future, full stop? Meanwhile, things aren't much better north of the border, where Quebec-based Haven recently parted ways with founder and once-famous producer Jade Raymond, who has now left three different teams without any sort of release. Is Fairgame$ DOA? Maybe not, but we have lots of new information on the recent closed test of the game under the moniker Project Hearts, and... well... it's not sounding great. Also: MLB: The Show is seemingly getting a mobile release, PlayStation Stars is going away unceremoniously, Stellar Blade 2 is in active development, Xbox's Hellblade II is coming to PS5, Kojima's Physint is at least five more years away, and more. Then: Listener inquiries! Keeping in mind Sony's typical naming conventions, what will PlayStation 6's controller be called? Do we also find delight in Darth Vader's AI voice in Fortnite? Is the PS5 Pro truly worth purchasing before prices likely go up? Has Chris ever seen a ghost? Please keep in mind that our timestamps are approximate, and will often be slightly off due to dynamic ad placement.Timestamps: 0:00:00 - Intro00:44:13 - Best man bromance00:46:03 - ghoul-ing01:04:41 - Haven/Jade Raymond reflections01:37:51 - Bungie art theft reflections02:33:15 - MLB: The Show mobile02:38:25 - PlayStation Stars is over02:51:24 - Stellar Blade sequel coming02:56:49 - Kojima's next game is far off03:01:41 - Hellblade 2 is coming to PS503:05:56 - Randy Pitchford on Borderlands 4 pricing03:26:21 - Circana data03:35:21 - New Naughty Dog logo03:37:18 - Doom: The Dark Ages surpasses three million players03:40:44 - What Are We Playing (Doom The Dark Ages, Stardew Valley, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Shovel Knight Dig)04:05:34 - Iconic PlayStation Games04:16:19 - ChatGPT game hints04:19:15 - DualSense 2?4:22:38 - AI Vader in Fortnite04:28:19 - "Editions" releases04:35:04 - Current thoughts on PS5 Pro Learn more about your ad choices. In this episode of Money Tales, our guest is Dr. Marianne Cooper. Marianne has built a career exposing inequality, while living inside it. As a sociologist and parent in Silicon Valley, she's seen firsthand how even the wealthy fear falling behind, and how families across the spectrum quietly hustle to secure their children's futures. In this episode, Marianne shares what it's like to understand exactly how privilege is reproduced while trying to avoid passing it on herself. Marianne Cooper, Ph.D., is a sociologist, speaker, writer, and expert advisor. She is a senior research scholar at Stanford University's VMware Women's Leadership Innovation Lab and an affiliate at the Stanford Center on Poverty & Inequality. The boys head to Japan this week to discuss Akira Kurosawa's “Yojimbo”. Starring Toshiro Mifune, the film is considered one of the most influential movies of all time. It's so influential that an entire series of westerns ripped it off so good they couldn't be released in the US for years due to threats of lawsuits. Anyway, this film is awesome, but did the boys think it stands up to the other Kurosawa greats? Grab a beer and tune in! Our phone number is 646-484-9298. EPISODE 378: Bungie in Crisis, Kojima's Legacy, and a Ton of Games!Fred is 68 hours into Octopath Traveler II with just two storylines left to go, while Jake is still exploring Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. No listener feedback this week, but the news is pretty loaded.Bungie is facing some serious trouble with their upcoming game Marathon. They discovered plagiarized art assets in the alpha build, which led to scrapping the planned gameplay reveal. The team morale is tanking, and now there's a big question mark over whether they'll make their September release. On the Sony side, Jade Raymond recently left Haven Studios, the team behind Fairgames. This came after some internal concerns and delays pushed Fairgames into a 2026 release. It definitely adds to the uncertainty around Sony's live-service plans, which have had a rough ride lately.Over at SNK, Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves didn't hit the mark, and their CEO has stepped down. Meanwhile, Hideo Kojima is thinking long term—he's given his assistant a USB stick full of creative ideas, almost like a will, to keep Kojima Productions going strong when he's no longer around. Kojima's also pleased that Death Stranding 2 is scoring higher in internal reviews than the first game, though he admits he prefers more divisive feedback. He's all about bold storytelling and isn't interested in playing it safe. And get ready for a huge wave of new games dropping this week. There's RoadCraft, a disaster recovery sim from the makers of MudRunner; the classic S.T.A.L.K.E.R. trilogy finally coming to PS5; and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splintered Fate, a rogue-like ninja adventure. If you're into quirky stuff, Duck Detective has two new cases where you play as a down-on-his-luck duck detective solving mysteries. There's also a mix of retro platformers, deckbuilders, action RPGs, VR zombie shooters, samurai remasters, and even a dark fantasy open-world RPG called Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon. The year was 1985, Freddy Mercury was bringing down the house at Wembley, Rocky Balboa won the Cold War by defeating Ivan Drago, and the Nintendo Entertainment System was release in the United States. It took the country by storm on the overall clad back of an Italian plumber named Mario. Nintendo ruled the home video game market until 1989 when a new player joined the game. The Sega Genesis' step onto the scene wasn't a home run right away. Sega decided to bring in a legend of the toy industry, a man named Tom Kalinske. This guy had his hands all over your childhood (not in the bad way) . Flintstone Vitamins? He created them. Barbie? He's the reason she's around today. Matchbox Cars? Who amongst us hasn't smashed one with a hammer when they no longer rolled properly. Tom and his team decided the only way to fight Nintendo's death grip on the market was to appeal to an older more mature and rebellious audience, teenagers. Sega became MTV to Nintendo's Disney Channel. Their battle took place in the stores, at the conventions, and on your TV. It had everything, corporate sabotage, defection to the competition, Joey Lawrence, Japanese rent-by-the-hour hotels, and a Hedgehog with attitude who's still doing his thing today. Today on the podcast, I'm joined by Krissy Miles—speaker, author, and leader with the Nfluence Network. From growing up in a home marked by poverty, trauma, and instability, Krissy's journey is one of radical repentance, transformation, and total submission to God.She shares candidly about the pain of her past, the deep emotional wounds she carried, and how her desire to escape it all only led her deeper into confusion and despair. But when Krissy surrendered her life fully to Jesus, everything changed. In just four months, the trajectory of her life shifted dramatically—including the miraculous way she met her husband.Krissy now equips others to walk in freedom through biblical discipleship, obedience, and hearing God's voice clearly. Her testimony is a powerful reminder that no matter how far we feel from God, He's still able to reach us—and restore us.

One of the biggest releases of the year, DOOM The Dark Ages, is out, and Sean's been playing it, but best of all, we have a guest, Krafty1111 from the Video Game Happy Hour podcast, on to discuss his thoughts on the game as a big DOOM fan. He's also been playing Clair Obscur Expedition 33, and he joins Sean and Marc to discuss his thoughts on that game, too. Also, after an impressive full fiscal year financial report put things in great light for Sony and PlayStation, came more dower news in regards to their live service efforts with the scandal involving Bungie and art plagiarism from a former employee, taking art from another artist and putting it into assets for the game. Jade Raymond also left Haven Studios (a studio she founded) with no details from Sony. Does this put Fairgames in jeopardy of being canceled? Plus, more information on which Switch 2 games are getting free updates at launch, Krafty' s gaming journey, Riders Republic is getting a movie, Ubisoft delays some big games, Square-Enix cancels the Kingdom Hearts: Missing Link mobile game, Injustice 3 may be in development, Marvel 1943 delayed, and more! You can also watch this episode in video form on the W2M Network Youtube Channel, please give us a like, comment on the episode, and give the channel a subscribe and follow as well: https://youtube.com/live/JKz6STlRJjQCheck out Krafty1111 and the rest of the Video Game Happy Hour crew Friday nights at 11 pm ET live on Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/krafty1111 Watch later on the VGHH YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@videogamehappyhour Listen on Podcasts: https://video-game-happy-hour.captivate.fm/listen Join the VGHH Community: https://discord.com/channels/1273761456961093682/1277029203581079562
PlayStation is booming, at least depending on how you look at things. On the one hand, Sony's annual financial results are incredibly strong: PlayStation drove more revenue last year than any gaming entity ever has in the entire history of the industry. Meanwhile, PS5 will surpass 80 million units sold soon, and has become the default console for most players this generation. But there's a downside; indeed, Sony is doing all of this damage with one hand tied behind its back, as major exclusive releases have slowed down to a trickle, while the level of behind-the-scenes mismanagement becomes ever-starker. As we were wrapping our episode up, word dropped that first party studio Haven lost its founder and biggest name, Jade Raymond, apparently after a tumultuous testing of Fairgames, boding poorly for the future of that product and team. Maybe this entire initiative was a bad idea, after all? Plus: Death Stranding 2 goes gold, Stellar Blade is coming to PC, rumors percolate about a Grand Theft Auto IV remaster, and more. Then: Listener inquiries! Will Final Fantasy XVII be turn-based? What does the 11th hour saving of Giant Bomb mean for the future of games media? Could Game Pass' undeniable value proposition begin peeling away the Sony hardcore? Who should we cast Obesaga on, so that we can have an overweight cast member for representation's sake? Please keep in mind that our timestamps are approximate, and will often be slightly off due to dynamic ad placement.
