Having spent thirty plus years in his pursuit of understanding pain through the studies of neuroscience, physiotherapy, and pain science, Lorimer is currently a Professor of Clinical Neurosciences and the Foundation Chair in Physiotherapy at the University of South Australia. He's recently launched his non-profit grassroots movement called ‘Pain Revolution' which is ensuring that all Australians have access to the knowledge, skills, and local support to prevent and overcome persistent pain. For this conversation, we explore some of the key principles of his updated model of pain which draws from 50 years of research and data. It's deeply transformational work that has the potential to dramatically shift our relationship to what makes us hurt. If you wish to continue your journey into the world of pain science, head over to painrevolution.org or check out some of his lectures and Ted Talks over on YouTube. How AI is Revolutionizing Medicine | The Doctor Who Saved Himself With AI | Dr. David Fajgenbaum

There are defining moments that split your life into before and after. Moments when everything you thought you knew gets stripped away, leaving only what truly matters. For Dr. David Fajgenbaum, that moment came not once, but five times, each bringing him closer to death and, paradoxically, teaching him how to live. This week's episode explores what happens when the system fails you and you refuse to accept failure. When David was diagnosed with Castleman disease at 25, a rare condition where your immune system turns against your own body, traditional medicine reached its limits. But David didn't. Instead of surrendering, he became both patient and researcher, ultimately discovering the treatment that would save not just his life, but potentially thousands of others. In our conversation, David reveals the mindset shifts that kept him fighting when hope felt impossible, how AI is revolutionizing our approach to drug discovery, and why the cure for your condition might already exist in a pharmacy right now. His story challenges everything we think we know about medicine, healing, and what's possible when you refuse to take no for an answer. What struck me most about our conversation wasn't just David's survival story, but how he turned personal crisis into a mission that's reshaping medicine. His ability to stay curious even when doctors said there was nothing left to try, and his belief that the answers we need might already exist, just waiting to be discovered. David showed me that breakthrough thinking isn't always about creating something new, but seeing what's already there differently.About Dr. David Fajgenbaum:Dr. David Fajgenbaum is a physician-scientist, bestselling author of Chasing My Cure, and co-founder of Every Cure, a nonprofit on a mission to unlock the full potential of every approved drug to treat every disease it possibly can. Recently named to TIME's 100 Health list for 2025, he's revolutionising medical research by repurposing existing drugs to treat rare diseases. His TED Talk has inspired millions, and his nonprofit work continues to unlock life-saving treatments hidden in plain sight.Connect with Dr. David Fajgenbaum:Website: https://everycure.orgInstagram: @dfajgenbaumFacebook: David FajgenbaumTwitter: @DavidFajgenbaumBook: Chasing My Cure – Available on AmazonLove,Sarah Ann

    5. THE LAST / FINAL STEP OF THE LJ APPROACHA. Put the T/O foot down FLAT on to the T/O board. Not on your toe: not with the heel first....FLAT !!!B. Maintain a PERPENDICULAR POSTURE throughout this part of the jump.C. DO NOT have a full cycle of the T/O leg ( last step ) as you place it on the board. Simply scoot the leg through and put the foot down.D. The T/O STEP is the SHORTEST STEP / STRIDE in the LJ Approach.6. THE TAKE OFFA. The upper body must remain a PERPENDICULAR posture to and through the entire T/O process.B. There must be a checking or delaying of the onset of rotation with the arm opposite the T/O leg at the moment the athlete leaves the board.C. The Leading Leg must come through with the heel tight to the butt to create a SHORT, FAST MOVING LEVER at this T/O moment.D. Instruct the athlete to RUN THROUGH the T/O Board....NOT TO the T/O Board. This will assist in maintaining speed until the last possible moment.7. AIR MECHANICS AND LANDINGA. The HANG, HITCH KICK or HITCH HANG are all efficient techniques to be used. No one technique is better than the other. The purpose each of these techniques serves is to help delay the premature onset of rotation so the athlete can establish a good extension at landing.B. 3. THE RUNWAYA. The entire length of the approach must go from SLOW to FAST. The fastest part occuring at the moment of Take Off ( T/O ).B. The RHYTHM of the approach should be smooth, consistent and maintained throughout the entire approach.C. COUNTING ( out loud or to yourself ) can greatly assist in developing the above stated RHYTHM.D. While correct Sprint Mechanics must strive for perfection during the approach, an ' elastic loading ' ( or SPLITS ) must occur on each successive stride. In effect, this is an increase of the actual stride length of the athlete, all the while maintaining excellent sprint technique.4. THE PENULTIMATE STEPA. The athlete must remain PERPENDICULAR throughout the approach...This means the UPPER BODY is sitting / postured directly over the LOWER BODY. There can be NO leaning backwards or forwards in any part of the approach and take off.B. The PENULTIMATE STEP ( second last step of the approach ) is always the LONGEST STEP / STRIDE in any jumping approach. ( LJ, HJ, PV, TJ ). However, speed can NOT be compromised here. Maintaining a PERPENDICULAR POSTURE will help in keeping the speed in tact during the penultimate step.C. The athlete must LEAD WITH THE HEEL OF THE PENULTIMATE FOOT as he / she is going into the Penultimate Step. BUT...the athlete MUST put the foot down FLAT as it strikes the ground.***Welcome to Gill1918, the track & field coaching podcast powered by Gill Athletics. The APPROACH and the TAKE OFF in the Long Jump (LJ) accounts for 90-95% of how success will be measured in this event!!Hence, developing a consistent, correct and simplified runway approach and take off are critical components of any LJ training program. A full and complete understanding and development of the following " 7 Points of LJ Excellence ", will set both the athlete and coach on a path toward high level success in this event.SECONDARY INTRODUCTIONThe following 3 statements / facts must be fully understood and used in the full and complete development of a technical package in training for the LJ event.1. Speed of release is critical to distance attained.2. Immediate DECELERATION and ROTATION occurs the instant the jumper leaves the ground/board at Take Off. ( T/O ).3. Excellent and correct SPRINT MECHANICS on the runway approach will not only help create greater speed of release at the Moment of T/O, but will also help create a more consistent stride pattern to insure a correct foot placement on the T/O board. ( In effect, a fair and not foul jump )7 TEACHING / COACHING POINTS OF EXCELLENCE IN THE LONG JUMP1. POSTURE AT THE VERY BACK OF THE RUNWAY DURING THE START OF THE APPROACHA. Stand tall; Head up looking down the runway; Chest up...NO BENDING / BREAKING at the waist.2. FIRST MOVEMENT / STEP OUT OF THE BACK OF THE RUNWAY APPROACHA. Head up, Chest up, Eyes focused straight down the runwayB. PUNT STEP is the very first movement...as the athlete begins his / her first step, the knee of the front leg ( the push leg ) must NOT pass a perpendicular line extending straight upward from the toe of that same leg. C. Speed of Movement is NOT a critical factor in the first 2 steps out of the back of the approach. Instead, POSTURE, POSITION and CORRECT SPRINT MECHANICS are where all emphasis needs to be placed.***Welcome to Gill1918, the track & field coaching podcast powered by Gill Athletics. But what does the research say about how to achieve it?For more than 86 years, researchers at Harvard University have been trying to figure out how humans can live happier lives.  In one of the longest-running and most comprehensive studies of human happiness, Harvard tracked 724 teenagers through every stage of their adult lives since 1938. Some of them are still alive today and the findings are clear: lasting happiness isn't about wealth or fame—it's about something much deeper.Robert Waldinger, a professor and psychiatrist, has directed the study for over 20 years. His TED Talk about it went viral with nearly 50 million views, and in 2023, he wrote a book about it - The Good Life: Lessons from the World's Longest Scientific Study of Happiness.I asked Robert to share what the study has revealed about happiness over the decades, how its insights have shaped his own life, and the one essential ingredient for a joyful, meaningful existence. This…is A Bit of Optimism. To learn more about Robert and his work, check out:The Harvard Study of Adult Developmentrobertwaldinger.com

This week on Cosmic Injectables, Gemini season kicks the door open like it's late to its own party—and immediately starts oversharing. What was supposed to be a light-hearted romp through the air sign of quick wit and connection quickly devolves (or evolves?) into a full-blown therapy session for Brie, who—plot twist—has a Gemini stellium and absolutely no place to hide from the cosmic call-out.Ali plays the grounded Scorpio to Brie's Mercury-fueled emotional unraveling, casually holding space while Brie processes 19 conflicting thoughts per second, mid-sentence. There's talk of identity ping-pong, spiritual shapeshifting, and the metaphysical importance of having 47 open browser tabs, both literal and emotional.  (No surprise, Brie literally has 300+ tabs open on her phone.) You'll learn about Gemini's trickster energy, why this season feels like a cross between a TED Talk, an improv show, and your ex texting you at 2am to say they've had a revelation. And you'll laugh (maybe cry?) as Brie comes to terms—on air—with how her entire personality has been engineered by Gemini placements and her spirit guides are probably just texting “lol” in group chat.Expect dry wit, astrological insights, and moments of “wait…am I okay?” wrapped in a sparkly bow of cosmic validation.Connect with Your Cosmic Guides: Briana Christine: TikTok | Instagram Ali: TikTok | Instagram Join the Cosmic Community: Follow Cosmic Injectables for more episodes filled with spiritual insights, laughter, and a touch of magic. In Erased: What American Patriarchy Has Hidden From Us, best selling writer Anna Malaika Tubbs reveals the secret history of American patriarchal values. Tubbs argues this patriarchy is the central narrative thread of American history. She emphasizes that patriarchy affects everyone differently according to their race, class, and gender - thereby creating a "gendered hierarchy" that excludes many from traditional gender roles. Tubbs maintains that this patriarchy persists. Indeed, she presents the Trump administration's Project 2025 as a reactionary attempt to return to this central narrative of American history. Five Key Takeaways * American patriarchy was intentionally built into the nation's founding documents, with women deliberately excluded from the Constitution. This systemic design continues to influence modern American society and politics.* Patriarchy affects different groups in varying ways—white women experience oppression differently than women of color, who historically weren't even afforded the "protections" of traditional gender roles. Understanding these distinctions is crucial for building effective coalitions.* Agency is central to resistance against patriarchal systems. Throughout history, marginalized groups have consistently demonstrated alternative ways of living despite systemic constraints.* Current political movements like Project 2025 represent a conscious return to traditional patriarchal values, particularly in their emphasis on women's reproductive roles.* According to Tubbs, addressing patriarchy requires multi-level approaches: personal reflection, reimagining relationships, mindful parenting, and policy change. Understanding how patriarchy operates helps explain voting patterns and can inform strategies for social change.Anna Malaika Tubbs is a New York Times bestselling author and multidisciplinary expert on current and historical understandings of race, gender, and equity. With a Ph.D. in Sociology and a Masters in Multidisciplinary Gender Studies from the University of Cambridge in addition to a Bachelors in Medical Anthropology from Stanford University, Anna translates her academic knowledge into stories that are clear and engaging. Her articles have been published by TIME Magazine, New York Magazine, CNN, Motherly, the Huffington Post, For Harriet, The Guardian, Darling Magazine, and Blavity. Anna's storytelling also takes form in her talks, including her TED Talk that has been viewed 2 million times, as well as the scripted and unscripted screen projects she has in development. Lasting change begins with a shift in both mindset and behavior. Many people remain stuck in self-defeating patterns because of unconscious narratives, emotional triggers, and a disconnection from their body's inner wisdom. Change isn't just about willpower or information—it's about learning to rewire the brain through small, intentional actions that generate powerful emotional feedback loops. Identity transformation happens not through repetition, but through experiences that create a sense of success. In a world flooded with conflicting advice and manipulative marketing, reclaiming agency requires tuning into your own signals, building self-trust, and recognizing that behavior change is a design challenge—not a character flaw. Empowerment comes from realizing that the ability to change is built into who we are as humans. In this episode, I speak with Tom Bilyeu, Dr. Rangan Chatterjee, and Dr. BJ Fogg about cracking the nut of behavior change. Tom Bilyeu is a filmmaker and serial entrepreneur best known as the co-founder of Quest Nutrition, a billion-dollar company built to combat metabolic disease through value-driven innovation. After nearly a decade of chasing financial success and feeling unfulfilled, he realized the importance of loving the struggle itself. This insight led him and his partners to shift focus from profit to purpose. Quest quickly became the second fastest-growing company in North America, according to Inc. Magazine. After achieving significant personal wealth, Tom turned to the other global crisis he saw—disempowering mindsets. To address this, he co-founded Impact Theory, a media studio with his wife, Lisa Bilyeu. Their mission is to scale mindset transformation by producing empowering content that shifts the cultural subconscious. Just as Disney built the most magical place on Earth, the Bilyeus aim to build the most empowering one. Dr. Rangan Chatterjee is regarded as one of the most influential doctors in the UK. A practicing GP for the last two decades, Dr. Chatterjee wants to inspire people to transform their health by making small, sustainable changes to their lifestyles. Host of the #1 Apple podcast, Feel Better, Live More, and presenter of BBC 1's Doctor in the House, Dr. Chatterjee is the author of 5 Sunday Times bestselling books and his TED Talk, “How to Make Diseases Disappear,” has now been viewed over 4.8 million times. His newest book is Happy Mind, Happy Life: The New Science of Mental Well-Being. Dr. BJ Fogg is a behavior scientist, author, and founder of the Behavior Design Lab at Stanford University, where he has researched human behavior since 1998. He developed the groundbreaking “Behavior Design” system, which explains how behavior works and how to design it effectively. Over the past decade, his lab has focused on practical applications—from helping people navigate coronavirus-related challenges to training climate change professionals in behavior change strategies. BJ is also the creator of the “Tiny Habits” method, a simple, science-backed approach to habit formation that has helped over 40,000 people make lasting life changes. His work empowers individuals and organizations to design behavior that benefits both people and the planet. ABOUT THIS EPISODE: In this episode, I'm joined by my friend and messaging expert Brandon Lucero for a powerful deep-dive into what really makes content convert. We go beyond surface-level strategies and into the psychology of messaging that drives demand—without relying on hype or constant how-to posts. Brandon breaks down his three levels of trust that every business needs to build with its audience, and how to shift from over-teaching to creating true resonance and relevance. We talk about how to stop overwhelming your audience, the difference between encyclopedic content and TED Talk-level impact, and why self-identifying content is one of the most effective ways to generate demand before ever mentioning your offer. Brandon also shares practical examples of how to structure your messaging, content, and even Reels to attract aligned clients who are ready to buy—not just engage. If you're ready to stop chasing attention and start creating true connections and conversions, this episode is a must-listen! Liked this episode? Intellect is important. Using your expertise to really showcase and break down processes in a logical way that is digestible for someone to understand is important, but that doesn't always lead to a sale. In fact, a lot of times that can kind of put you in the friend zone where people are engaging with your content. Maybe they find you valuable. They find you inspiring, they think that you're really smart, but they're not buying from you.” - Julie Solomon  “   When it comes to information, I always talk about teaching concepts. Don't teach them how to actually do something, but what's the concept they need to learn? And then if you follow it up with like a metaphor or analogy or something like that, now the brain automatically goes, oh, that makes sense. I get that” - Brandon Lucero GUEST RESOURCES: Brandon Lucero @iambrandonlucero The New Generation Entrepreneur RESOURCES: [JOIN MY VISIBILITY TRAINING] With just 1 hour a week, my proven content framework will help you refine your messaging and turn your offers into consistent, scalable sales. Today we bring you a story stranger than fiction. In 2006, paleobiologist Natalia Rybczynski took a helicopter to a remote Arctic island near the North Pole, spending her afternoons scavenging for ancient treasures on the ground. One day, she found something the size of a potato chip. Turns out, it was a three and half million year old chunk of bone. Keep reading if you're okay with us spoiling the surprise. It's a camel! Yes, the one we thought only hung out in deserts. Originally from North America, the camel trotted around the globe and went from snow monster to desert superstar. We go on an evolutionary tour of the camel's body and learn how the same adaptations that help a camel in a desert also helped it in the snow. Plus, Lulu even meets one in the flesh. Special thanks to Latif Nasser for telling us this story. It was originally a TED Talk where he brought out a live camel on stage. Thank you also to Carly Mensch, Juliet Blake, Anna Bechtol, Stone Dow, Natalia Rybczynski and our camel man, Shayne Rigden. If you are in Wisconsin, you can go meet his camels at Rigden Ranch. And follow his delightful TikTok @rigdenranch to see camels in the snow!  Terrestrials was created by Lulu Miller with WNYC Studios.
