Ep. 14 Experiencing Truth, Longing, Belonging, and Evolution w/ Kristin Urbanus

Wild Sacred Journey Podcast

This episode, like a healthy nervous system, oscillates between the personal and the collective; between our individual stories and how that informs what we see as being ‘up' for us as humans: what's being asked of us, what we're yearning for, and what evolution might, or even must, be possible. How perfect then that I'm joined by Kristin Urbanus, a Professional Certified Coach, Spiritual Psychology and Somatic Touch practitioner, and yoga and meditation teacher - someone skilled in a multidimensional approach to transformation and evolution; who can both hear the body and hear the subtle and larger currents we humans ride. The first thread you'll hear us follow is an exploration of the difference between ‘knowing' something and ‘experiencing' it and that seems to come full circle when we wrap up by exploring how we recognize ‘truth' from mirage; what ‘rightness' feels like in our bodies. Along the way, we also wend our way through : where orienting around “I think therefore I am” seems to have gotten us and some alternatives that might open up new possibilities for humanity; the role spaciousness, animism, body, and a sense of belonging to the wider world can play in making healing less scary; where ‘modern modalities' seem to fall short in effectiveness, why, and what role old ways of knowing and relating might play in modern evolution; what we yearn for, why we distract ourselves; finding the part of ourselves we trust… and so much more. There are a couple of moments Kristin flips the questions back around on me, continuing the trend of this podcast being less about interviews and more about conversations - two humans exploring the known and unknown, together. Gather with us? Awaken with us? Be moved with us? I hope you will. There is plenty of room for all of you here. On this episode, we're talking to FDN-extraordinaire, Kristin Thomas! While Kristin is now focused solely on helping other FDN Practitioners and health coaches run successful businesses, before this, her health was a mess. She dealt with debilitating pain in her gut, and this landed her in the hospital on numerous occassions. Like so many of us stuck in the cycle of trial and error (trying medication after medication and visiting doctor after doctor without relief/success), Kristin eventually realized she'd have to go elsewhere if she wanted to avoid surgery. Thankfully for her, there was systems out there that were able to get to the bottom of what she was dealing with, the most impactful of which was the FDN system! Kristin's success in working with her own FDN practitioner led her to pursuing the course herself and starting her own FDN business. Within months of beginning, she had already developed a wait-list practice, and was able to do the work full-time! Because of her success, Kristin now takes both her background in marketing and FDN to help other practitioners start their own successful businesses. In this episode, Detective Ev and Kristin will cover her health challenges for the first 30-35 minutes, and biz questions after that!  About Kristin: Kristin Thomas is the CEO & Founder of Health & Wellness Business School, a nationally recognized business and marketing school helping health and wellness practitioners to authentically increase their impact and income. Her and her team specialize in organic marketing, social media, authentic sales strategies, copywriting, client experience, and much more. She guides her clients to gain the confidence and know-how to step into the CEO role of their business so they can attract their dream clients, run a full and fun business, and reach financial freedom. As a marketing professional for the last 12+ years, she's helped hundreds of companies create and scale their businesses through organic marketing strategies, content storytelling, and human-to-human conversations. She's written well over 10,000 social media posts, over 500 web pages, and even worked for Twitter itself. She's been featured for her advice on marketing in publications including Inc Magazine, Entrepreneur, and Forbes. After failing miserably, she dedicated herself to learning everything about tech and selling and soon turned her fortunes around. After college, she started selling for various companies around Silicon Valley until she and her husband started an ad agency business together. When her husband retired, she decided to put everything she had learnt into helping companies grow and became a revenue coach. Knowledge that she has also captured in her book: Roadmap to Revenue. Don't miss this episode to discover more about Kristin's success story and the necessity of knowing the demands and mindset of clients in order to achieve continual business growth.   "Selling is not really selling. How to understand the customer's needs and wants by knowing their mindset. A simple way to acquire real customer feedback and how it will help you get the confidence to proceed. The value of delivering and keeping promises when building a business.       "Business takes bravery, courage and humility. We’re continuing this week with Bridging the Generational Gap in the Workplace Part 2 with generation expert Kristin Scroggin, with genWHY Communications. This week, we’re discussing how your bosses view you as a Millennial, Gen-Z or Gen-X. We’re also discussing techniques to have better working relationships with all the generations. Lastly, we’ll dive into why those high tech companies are doing better at retaining the younger generations! Generation Breakdown: Traditionalist: 1924 -1945Baby boomer: 1946 - 1965Gen X: 1965 - 1984Gen Y (Millennials): 1985 - 2005Gen Z (technically still Millennials): 1995-2005Gen Alphas (rename for COVID) - 2006 - PresentTop Tips:Gen X, also known as the “latch-key” kids, are not as social as the other generations. They are also very good at having work-life balance. Don't expect to socialize a lot with this generation in the workplace or outside of it. Baby Boomers are notorious for being SMEs(Subject Matter Experts). You need to be intentional of learning from these SMEs so that they are willing to give you all their nuggets of knowledge. Millennials have a strong need for everything to be fair.  Keep in mind not everything is fair and it's all about a balance. Connect with Kristin:Website: https://www.genwhy.com/Instagram: @genwhycommunications

You’ve heard all the generation stereotypes. Some think Millennials whine too much. Others think Baby Boomers work too much. Now that we have a new generation entering the workforce, we wanted to know how we could all get along. We brought along generation expert Kristin Scroggin, with genWHY Communications, to break down all of those quirks and habits that stem from our generational upbringing. Tune in to Part 1 of this episode as we dive into how to bridge the generational gap in the workplace!Top Tips:Generational differences are influenced by the different parenting styles we grew up with. Millennials have attributes in the workplace such as,  informality, refusing to “look busy” when you’re out of work, and feeling entitled for things instead of working for them. These are perceived negatively by the older generations. Not all Millennials are the same. There are those who are considered to be outliers . These include people that got raised by a single parent or grandparent, raised by older parents, parents battled addiction, raised in a small town, or if a family member was in the military. Traditionalist: 1924 -1945Baby boomer: 1946 - 1965Gen X: 1965 - 1984Gen Y (Millennials): 1985 - 2005Gen Z (technically still Millennials): 1995-2005Gen Alphas (rename for COVID) - 2006 - PresentConnect with Kristin:Website: https://www.genwhy.com/Instagram: @genwhycommunications

On today’s episode, I had the pleasure of speaking with the lovely @kristentraverse. Kristen is a Registered Nurse, wife, mama of two boys, podcaster, a private Nursing Consultant, a recovering stroke patient, and so much more! Five years ago, when she was just 31 years old, Kristen suffered a severe stroke which at the time, was misdiagnosed as a migraine. After many tests, she was diagnosed with having severe Broca's Aphasia and Apraxia. Her stroke left her unable to speak or communicate words for two years and she was also incapable of performing familiar movements on command. Her story of how this unfolds and how she got to where she is today is incredible, and I can’t wait for you to listen! Following the stroke, she adjusted her career path to better suit her “new norm,” and decided to pour her love for being an RN into becoming a Private Nursing Consultant. Kristin is now working to change the narrative for stroke patients and those dealing with chronic illness or brain injury. On this episode we dive into: Kristen’s journey on the day she had her stroke, her diagnosis, how she started on her road to recovery, and how she’s doing today living in her new norm. Finding your “why” in a hard situation to use that to propel you forward through tough times. Putting yourself first when your body and mind need you to - as well as asking for and accepting help when you need it. Being more intentional with your words, because you just never know when the last time you will get to speak to someone might be. Letting go of the constant worry and doubt that you’re not good enough. Coming from a place of love instead of fear when you make decisions. Building a legacy instead of a resume. The take-home: Kristen shared her favourite quote, “If you talk, you’re only repeating what you already know, but if you listen, you might learn something new.” From these words, she decided what she wanted her life to look like after her stroke. “You have to decide if you are going to act out of fear or love. I am very intentional with my time and what I want to do to bring more meaning to my life and other’s lives as well. Helping other people is so important to me, and no matter what I do, I know my boys are proud of me - which is ultimately what matters to me the most.” Do the best you can to pour your time into purposeful and meaningful things and into things that you love doing, because life is much too short to be anything but happy. Kristin Schell is on a mission to love her neighbors. She put a picnic table in her front yard, painted it turquoise, and began inviting neighbors, friends, and even strangers, to hang out and do life together at The Turquoise Table. As founder of the Turquoise Table and Front Yard People movement, Kristin travels the country speaking at conferences and events with an encouraging word on how to open our lives and homes to others. Faith Story (1:49)  Kristin's testimony is the backdrop and preparation God used for the story of The Turquoise Table. In middle school Kristin was beat up so her mama pulled her from school and enrolled her in a parochial school where she wasn't allowed to participate in the daily church service. Other events developed during those years that led to Kristin walking away from Jesus. Spoiler alert! She found her way back to him after a friend in a foreign country invited her to church and she realized that the Lord had been there all along. Encouragement For During The Journey (9:20)  Kristin offers encouragement to women who are in the midst of the struggle to not fall into the trap of comparison when they hear someone else's story. There's a story that isn't mine but shows those good and Godly characters I know to be true no matter what's going on your life. The Turquoise Table (11:00) Kristin talks about the story behind The Turquoise Table. She had a craving and wanted to share her story and Jesus with others. She often tried inviting people to church and many times it didn't work out. The table is almost like the Lord's way of saying, "Let's start at the beginning and keep this simple."  She asked the Lord to teach her about hospitality, outreach and loving others.
