¿Qué patrón aún no has descifrado? ¿Cómo puedes mejorar lo que ya funciona? Tu genio está esperando ser ensamblado.

The internet is alight with word that a State of Play (or perhaps even a proper so-called Showcase) is right around the corner, and with it the purported reemergence of Insomniac's Wolverine, first revealed way back in 2021 alongside Spider-Man 2 (which itself came out two years ago). Is our clawed, self-healing, and somewhat short friend about to reemerge from the shadows, perhaps with a 2026 release on PlayStation 5 in tow? We're about to find out, along with -- perhaps! -- confirmation of a Venom title, too (and presumably much more). Plus: Ghost of Yotei and Helldivers 2 find themselves sucked into recent social events, Tencent hits back at Sony over its Horizon-based lawsuit, Borderlands 4 is a technical mess for many (and Randy Pitchford won't shut up about it), Hell Is Us' director calls Silksong's surprise release "callous," and so much more. Then: Listener inquiries! Would we ever attempt something as challenging as a company Top 100 Games of All-Time list? What are some potential launch games for PlayStation 6? How does one display their physical games collection when there isn't enough room for all of it? Is Dustin about to move into the poorhouse? It won't end nicely. Not this time. Welcome back to the podcast! Today, on a special epilogue episode, we're going to be taking another look at Bloodborne. This is a FromSoftware action RPG, tragically confined to the Sony ecosystem, but still containing a lot of the genre trappings of the games related to Dark Souls. However, the combat has ben retooled to be faster and more aggressive and the setting has been moved from medieval dark fantasy to gothic and Lovecraftian horror. Similarly to Sekrio, From, even when experimenting with genres and themes outside of their typical wheelhouse, manages to create a shockingly complete package. The mechanics of the notoriously difficult series play into the unfathomable nature of cosmic horror, the gothic werewolf stuff has a consistent narrative throughline into the otherworldly stuff, it's all very well considered. It still uses the Dark/Demon's Souls style of storytelling that leaves the burden of interpretation on the player, but it works especially well in a world in which clear answers would run counter to the game's themes. It's a fantastic game and one we wanted to take another crack at given that it's been eight years since our original episode. We're going to be talking about the interplay between the studio's signature style and the game's themes, how the weapon mechanics change the way you approach Bloodborne compared to other Soulslikes, and we give a massive shoutout to our boy Floory. Thank you for (re) joining us again this week! Without accounting for some anomalies here and there, we've released around three hundred episodes of this podcast over ten years and Bloodborne has been one of those that seemed ripe for the epilogue series given its age relative to how much we like it as a game. If you haven't played the game yet, is it because you don't own a Playstation? That would be a good reason. If you do own one, what's up? Do you hate quality? Let us know in the comments below or over on our Discord! Next time is an extremely special episode leading into some also special announcements, given that it is Episode 200 and on the cusp of our ten year anniversary, so we're finally playing the game that we are the last two people on Earth to have not played, Minecraft! We hope you'll join us then, and keep an eye out for the upcoming news.

[School of Movies 2025] This one came out of nowhere after seven years of development and production at Sony Pictures Animation. Yet after all that, Sony execs had zero faith in its success, so they sold it (along with all sequel rights in perpetuity) to Netflix for the modest budget of $100 million and then a nominal $20m that they could call profit. Then it broke the goddamn internet! For many reasons that we will go into, this one hit just right with a huge audience, and is now the basis for decades worth of sequels and spinoffs and live action remakes. Netflix got more than they could ever have wanted. At the last minute on this commissioned show (many thanks to Chris Finik, Toby Skeels-Jungius, Tylor Long, Holly Dotson, Nama Chibitty and Tripas) we brought in our buddy Ryan who lives in Busan, Korea, and was able to give us a rich cultural perspective on many details that we as westerners completely missed. In today's Daily Fix:Tencent has fired back at Sony in the ongoing lawsuit over Tencent's Light of Motiram video game. THE Leadership Japan Series by Dale Carnegie Training Tokyo, Japan
Why leadership requires sensing and feeling, not just knowing, in 2025 Managers often prioritise what they “know,” while leaders rely more on what they “sense” and “feel.” This distinction, popularised by executive coach Marcel Danne, is more than semantics—it highlights a profound difference in mindset. As of 2025, with Japan navigating demographic challenges, digital disruption, and global uncertainty, the ability to sense and adapt has become more critical than simply knowing facts. What's the difference between managers and leaders in decision-making? Managers tend to focus on knowing first—building confidence through data, self-education, and sheer hard work. Leaders, however, prioritise sensing first—tuning into people, context, and emotions before deciding. In practice, this means managers often bulldoze forward with certainty, while leaders pause to feel and reflect before acting. In Japan, this distinction matters. Hierarchical firms often elevate those who “know,” but the complexity of 2025 requires leaders who can sense subtle shifts in markets, teams, and cultures. Mini-Summary: Managers lead with knowledge; leaders lead with sensing. In 2025 Japan, sensing is critical for navigating complexity. Why are managers often so confident in their own answers? Managers often rely on personal effort: self-education, long hours, and relentless execution. This creates confidence, even ego, but often without much self-awareness. Many managers assume the path is clear because they've worked hard to “know” it. This overconfidence mirrors Western corporate cultures where rugged individualism is prized. But in Japan, such confidence can clash with collaborative norms. A “my way or the highway” mindset alienates teams, undermining innovation and engagement. Mini-Summary: Managerial confidence stems from effort and ego, but without self-awareness, it risks alienating teams—especially in Japan. Why do Japanese firms prioritise questions over answers? Japanese business culture values asking the right questions more than having immediate answers. To a Western-trained manager, this seems counterintuitive, but it ensures decisions reflect collective wisdom. Leaders in Japan often pause to ask: Are we even solving the right problem? This contrasts with the West, where speed and decisiveness are praised. In 2025, Japanese organisations that blend both—rigorous questioning plus timely execution—are best positioned for global competition. Mini-Summary: In Japan, leaders prioritise asking the right questions before jumping to answers, ensuring collective wisdom shapes decisions. How do feelings reshape leadership effectiveness? Managers often dismiss emotions as distractions. Leaders, however, integrate feelings into decision-making. Dale Carnegie's Human Relations Principles emphasise empathy, appreciation, and understanding as essential leadership skills. Leaders who sense how people feel can adjust tone, timing, and messaging. In 2025, with hybrid work and employee burnout prevalent, emotional intelligence is more critical than ever. Companies like Hitachi and Sony are embedding empathy into leadership development to retain talent and drive innovation. Mini-Summary: Feelings, once ignored by managers, are now essential for leaders managing hybrid workforces and avoiding burnout. Can leaders evolve from “knowing” to “sensing”? Yes. Leaders can shift by gradually reordering their priorities. Many, like myself, began as managers focused on knowing and execution. Over time, through feedback and reflection, feelings and sensing moved to the forefront. For example, Dale Carnegie training encourages leaders to practice empathy, appreciation, and active listening. These skills shift behaviour from control to collaboration. Even small changes—like pausing before responding—signal growth. Mini-Summary: Leaders can evolve from knowing-first to sensing-first through training, reflection, and small behavioural changes. What should leaders do today to balance sensing and knowing? In 2025, leaders must balance data with empathy. This means: Asking the right questions before chasing answers. Listening actively to signals from teams and markets. Using knowledge as a foundation but not the driver. Modelling humility and curiosity in decision-making. Executives at firms like Toyota and Rakuten illustrate this blend, combining rigorous data with people-first leadership. Leaders who fail to evolve remain stuck in outdated managerial mindsets. Mini-Summary: Leaders must balance sensing and knowing by listening, questioning, and modelling humility—skills critical in 2025 Japan. Conclusion The difference between managers and leaders lies in order of priority: managers know first, leaders sense first. In Japan's complex 2025 environment, sensing, feeling, and questioning matter more than simply knowing. Leadership is a journey of self-discovery—moving from rugged individualism to collaborative sensing. The challenge for executives today is clear: are you still managing by knowing, or are you leading by sensing? Sarah Michelle Gellar cameo in I Know What You Did Last Summer (2025) Reaction, Recap, Commentary, Breakdown, Analysis, Theories & Spoiler Review — Coy Jandreau & Roxy Striar sit down to react to the highly anticipated legacy sequel in Sony's iconic horror franchise. Directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (Do Revenge) and co-written with Sam Lansky, the film brings back Jennifer Love Hewitt (Julie James – I Know What You Did Last Summer, Heartbreakers) and Freddie Prinze Jr. (Ray Bronson – She's All That, Scooby-Doo) while introducing a new generation of characters haunted by a chilling hit-and-run mystery. Producer Neal H. Moritz (Fast & Furious, The Boys) ensures this continuation ties back to the 1997 original and 1998's I Still Know What You Did Last Summer. We break down the callbacks, the modern horror tone, and even nods to Julie's legendary scream “What are you waiting for?!” as well as tease at the rumored post-credit setup for the future of the franchise. From Southport, North Carolina to Hollywood's legacy of slashers, this sequel connects to the great horror revival of 2025 while honoring its roots. Tucked inside the first floor of the Gwinnett Historic Courthouse in Lawrenceville, the Gwinnett County Veterans Memorial Museum (GCVMM) is a hidden gem. It’s free, volunteer-run, and packed with over 4,000 artifacts honoring those who’ve served since 1776. The museum’s story is as rich as its collection. It started in 1989 as a small military display, born from a mission to preserve the courthouse and the graves of eight soldiers from the Creek Indian War. After years of effort, it officially opened on Veterans Day 2005. Now, 20 years later, GCVMM is celebrating its anniversary on Nov. 11 from 3–6 p.m. at the Historic Courthouse. Expect patriotic demos, speakers, and tours. It’s free, it’s meaningful, and it’s a chance to honor history. See you there! STORY 5: From Ada Twist to Rosie Revere: New hands-on exhibit inspires young problem-solvers at Children's Museum of Atlanta Things are about to get very curious at the Children’s Museum of Atlanta. Starting Sept. 20, they’re unveiling a new traveling exhibit: “The Questioneers: Read. Question. Think. PLAY!”—a hands-on, life-sized dive into Andrea Beaty and David Roberts’ beloved book series. Kids (and let’s be honest, probably some adults too) can step into Miss Lila Greer’s classroom and join Ada Twist, Scientist; Rosie Revere, Engineer; Iggy Peck, Architect; Sofia Valdez, Future Prez; and Aaron Slater, Illustrator. Build bridges with Iggy, fly Rosie’s Cheese Copter, or dream big in Ada’s thinking chair. It’s all about curiosity, creativity, and, yes, a little failure along the way. Running through Jan. 4, 2026, this bilingual exhibit (English and Spanish) is packed with STEM, art, and civic lessons—plus a whole lot of fun. Find it at 275 Centennial Olympic Park Dr. NW. More info? Head to childrensmuseumatlanta.org. STORY 6: 4-H Farm Friends — A Gwinnett County Fair tradition for more than 3 decades Logan, a sixth-grader with a heart for animals, has always been drawn to anything with fur, feathers, or scales. At his first 4-H event, he spent the day doting on baby ducklings, goats, and sheep—each lovingly named, of course. This year, 4-H Farm Friends is back at the Gwinnett County Fairgrounds, running through Sept. 21. For just $1, visitors can cuddle baby chicks, meet cows like Moolan and Ellie May (who turns five on Monday!), and even hang out with goats—new this year. For Logan and his mom, Misty, 4-H is more than animals—it’s community. Pam Bloch, a 4-H leader for 17 years, says the program is about more than cute animals. “We’re teaching kids where their food, clothes, and milk come from,” she said. “It’s hands-on learning they don’t always get in urban areas.” And for Logan? It’s pure joy. STORY 7: Police arrest suspect in North Gwinnett Co-Op burglary A Clarkston man, already serving time in a work-release program for burglary convictions, is now facing fresh charges tied to last month’s break-in at the North Gwinnett Co-Op’s Second Blessings Thrift Store in Buford. Lavan Hickman, 38, was charged with burglary and second-degree criminal damage to property after investigators determined he left the Gwinnett County Correctional Institute on work release before committing the Aug. 19 crime. Surveillance footage showed someone smashing a window with a rock to enter the store, causing over $10,000 in damages. Stolen items included a cash box, money bags, and a Sony camera. Kim Phillips, the co-op’s executive director, expressed heartbreak but also compassion. We’ll have closing comments after this. Today, I chat with Drew Thurlow, a strategist focused on how AI might be democratizing the music industry, rather than destroying it. We talk about how AI is changing everything from the creative process to copyright law, whether or not we should be worried about AI-generated music like the Velvet Sundown, and how AI is being used to surface the most popular songs made by whales in the sea. Name any random PlayStation IP from the days of yore, and people will claim to want it back. One such franchise is Sucker Punch's long-dormant Sly Cooper trilogy, the third game of which is now 20 years old. (And yes, we got a fourth Sly game from Sanzaru in 2013, but it's not like many of you played it.) A recent interview indicates there are very few people at Sony's Washington-based studio interested in returning to the Thievius Raccoonus, and perhaps for good reason. After all, they want to sell actual units. We discuss! Plus: New PlayStation 6 rumors percolate in the wild, Bend is apparently hiring for a multiplayer title, precious details about Naughty Dog's Intergalactic emerge, and deep sales information has been released about PlayStation's historic software sales here in the US over the last 30 years. Then: Listener inquiries! Will the Hollow Knight: Silksong pricing drama ever end? Should Media Molecule invest in the 'cozy game' revolution? Is Marathon even worth being excited over at all? Can we help ingratiate the younger generation into the psychosis of Sacred Symbols? TCW Podcast Episode 242- Fumito Ueda Fumito Ueda entered game design through art rather than a love of traditional play. Influenced by titles like Flashback and Another World, he sought to tell stories with minimal interfaces and expansive environments rich in mood. After early work on D and Enemy Zero, Sony gave him a trial period that led to ICO, a game shaped by surreal landscapes inspired by Giorgio de Chirico and a hand-holding mechanic to convey emotional connection. ICO struggled in Japan but became a critical hit abroad, influencing games from Uncharted 3, The Last of Us, Dark Souls, and Journey. Ueda expanded his ideas in Shadow of the Colossus, a meditation on cruelty and consequence that inspired epic boss battles in other franchises such as God of War. His long-delayed The Last Guardian explored companionship through a giant creature, though with mixed reception. Now independent, Ueda continues to shape gaming with projects yet to be revealed. “If you look very intensely and slowly things will happen that you never dreamed of before.” This Aaron Siskind quote neatly sums up the deeply contemplative discussion we had with landscape photographers John Paul Caponigro and Joel Simpson in this week's podcast. Siskind's name is mentioned several times in our chat—as are many other 20th century photography legends—making this show both an exploration of photo history and an exercise in a holistic way to envision and record the world around us. Our focus on landscape quickly diverges from realistic depictions in favor of terrain that celebrates abstraction and metaphor. Follow along as we unpack the unwieldy term Pareiolia—the tendency to see familiar things in otherwise random patterns—and discover unique pathways to relate to the natural world. As John Paul Caponigro aptly points out, “I think of every exposure that I make as having a conversation with the subject and myself. I think of every move that I make in Photoshop as having a conversation with the image that started one way and is developing in another. And I ask, you know, what does the image want?” Guests: John Paul Caponigro & Joel Simpson Episode Timeline: 3:30: Joel Simpson describes his early landscapes as a way to re-experience being elsewhere. 9:24: Pareidolia: what it means and its relationship to Joel's photographs. 13:24: John Paul's relationship to the term pareidolia: a way to find patterns and make sense out of chaos. 19:12: The influence of Gestalt psychology when interpreting abstract patterns and photographing the bare bones of the earth. 24:55: Differences between making pictures with the aid of pre-visualization vs going in empty and refining ones' vision in post using digital tools. Plus insights about getting beyond the imitation phase to find a path to originality in your work. 35:58: How do you know when your unique vision from the pictures you make are ready to be released into the world? 42:12: Episode Break 43:24: John Paul's approach to post-processing—using the tools as a laboratory to make multiple iterations. 47:00: Joel describes the discoveries he made when finessing photos of a wonderous landscape from Zhangjiajie, China. 50:21: How does AI factor into crafting an authentic vision, plus the mind as the original AI. 1:03:18: Using photography to tap into things that haven't yet been discovered and elicit a sense of wonder from viewers' responses. 1:06:50: Joel and John Paul talk about the places that inspire their respective photographic projects. Guest Bios: John Paul Caponigro is a digital media pioneer, combining his painting background with a variety of photographic processes using the latest in digital technology. His work is about the perception of nature and the nature of perception. Widely respected as an authority on creativity, photography, and fine art printing, John Paul's images and writings are widely published in periodicals and books, and he's been a contributing editor to a variety of magazines and websites. He's also author of the video training series R/Evolution and the book “Adobe Photoshop Master Class,” now in its second edition. As a highly sought-after speaker and educator, John Paul has presented lectures and workshops around the globe. His art has been exhibited internationally, and his prints are housed in numerous public and private collections. Select clients include Adobe, Apple, Canon, Kodak, and Sony, and he is a member of the Photoshop Hall of Fame, Epson's Stylus Pros, and X-Rite's Coloratti. Joel Simpson began making pictures as a teen in the 1960s, turning pro in 2002. Since that time, he's had more than 50 exhibitions in the US and abroad. His work has also been widely published and received numerous awards, including a Nautilus Gold Award for Art and Photography for his 2019 book Earthforms: Intimate Portraits of our Planet. His new book, Faces in the Rocks: Beyond Landscape to Psycho-Geological Photography, organizes his discoveries about the aesthetics of abstract and figurative forms in the earth, concluding with a tongue-in-cheek collection of imagined extra-terrestrial landscapes and future cityscapes. In addition to his career in photography, Simpson holds a PhD in comparative literature, and spent 22 years as a professional jazz pianist. He lives in Union, New Jersey.
