An episode that isn't about making art that's palatable—it's about making art that's true. In Episode 145 of The Autistic Culture Podcast, Dr Angela Kingdon continues our journey through the 10 Pillars of Autistic Culture as we move onto Pillar 7 — Boldly Creating with Nina Danon, Composer, Sound Artist, and Doctoral Researcher, whose work explores the rich intersections between autism, music, creativity, and sensory experience.Nina's work on Musical Neuroqueering will be published in 2026 in Neuroqueer Theory and Practice, edited by Dr Nick Walker, providing the first draft of her toolkit to empower anyone to expand their neurodivergence through music, and music through neurodivergence.Autistic creativity is deeply rooted in our sensory experiences, emotional intensity, and need for authentic self-expression.Boldly Creating is the autistic drive to express truth through movement, sound, pattern, and special interest, using creativity as connection, regulation, and radical self-expression. So much of boldly creating comes from stimming and sensory experiences that are core to music and the heart of your work. Here's what defines this core Autistic trait:* Boldly Creating isn't about making art that's palatable—it's about making art that's true. * We don't wait for permission to make art, to move, to stim, or to build new worlds. We create in ways that often defy convention—through rhythm, repetition, structure, texture, sound, and story. * Autistics' creative work is fueled by special interests, hyperfocus, and bottom-up processing. We invent new forms when existing ones don't fit, building from the ground up, not following someone else's form.* Whether it's knitting, composing, coding, dancing, designing, scripting, or sound-building, autistic people boldly create because that's how we process, regulate, connect, and express our deepest selves.* Autistic creativity is sensory-rooted, emotionally rich, and self-expressive, often expressed through movement (like stimming), sound, visuals, and texture.Key Concepts:* Stimming is performance. Fandom is creation. Knitting is structure, roller derby is choreography.* Bold creation resists perfection—it values expression over conformity.* Autism-centered creativity often dismantles genre boundaries.* It's embodied, synaesthetic, non-linear: world as your playground.
California Man Allegedly Murdered Neighbors Over $1 Hot Dog Dispute at Nudist Ranch REDLANDS, Calif. — A 62-year-old man has been charged with two counts of murder after allegedly beating his neighbors to death and dismembering their bodies—an act prosecutors say was sparked by a perceived insult involving a hot dog. Michael Royce Sparks is accused of killing Daniel and Stephanie Menard, a longtime couple who lived near him at the Olive Dell Nudist Ranch in Redlands. The San Bernardino County District Attorney's Office announced the charges Tuesday, which also include two special circumstance allegations for committing multiple murders. Sparks' arraignment is set for Wednesday. According to Detective Thomas Williams, Sparks confided to a fellow inmate that his deadly outburst began when Daniel Menard bought him a hot dog. Sparks reportedly believed the $1 snack was a slight against his worth, telling the inmate he felt it was a “jab” at him. “He said that's what set him off,” Williams testified during a Monday hearing. Sparks then allegedly went outside and struck Daniel in the head until “his head caved in.” When Stephanie Menard ran out screaming, Sparks reportedly attacked both victims with a rake, hoe, and hammer, according to the detective's account of Sparks' jailhouse confession. The Menards were reported missing on Sunday, August 25, after failing to show up for church. Their neighbor, Irene Ingkref, said the couple had lived at their property for decades and were last seen around 10 a.m. the day before. When investigators arrived, they found the Menards' vehicle down the road—unlocked, keys inside—and both of their cell phones and Mrs. Menard's purse left behind in the home. Their dog, Cuddles, remains missing. At first, authorities treated the case as a missing persons investigation. Over the next four days, police and volunteers scoured the rugged terrain surrounding the nudist community. But the case took a grim turn on August 29 when a former coworker and a relative in Minnesota reported receiving alarming texts from Sparks. Gale Heidelberg, a dispatcher at a diesel repair shop where Sparks once worked as a truck driver, testified that she reached out after seeing news coverage. She texted, “I am watching the news. Something going on where you live. Are you in town?” Sparks replied, “It's me. Committing suicide today. Take care. Bye.” When she pressed him for clarification, Sparks responded chillingly: “Chopped up my neighbors. Didn't know I had it in me. SNAPPED.” Redlands police quickly zeroed in on Sparks' trailer at Space 43. Detective Laurel Shearer testified that a foul odor was already emanating from the property. Officers tried to contact Sparks, who refused to come out. Redlands police ultimately used a tractor to dismantle the trailer. Inside, officers found Sparks hiding in a bunker with a long rifle. He attempted to take his own life, but the gun jammed. When asked where the Menards were and if they needed help, Sparks allegedly replied, “They're underneath the trailer… they don't need help,” before adding, “They're in pieces.” Authorities later confirmed they discovered human remains and additional evidence tied to the crime, though the coroner is still working to officially identify the bodies. During Tuesday's press conference, Redlands Police Chief Rachel Tolber emphasized the collaborative effort between law enforcement and the community in locating the missing couple and bringing the case forward. District Attorney Jason Anderson said his office is confident in pursuing the charges, stating, “You don't get a free murder. We believe Mr. Sparks is responsible for both.” If convicted on all charges, including the special circumstances, Sparks could face life in prison without the possibility of parole. Sarah Kenny Growing up and going out: Youth culture, commerce and leisure space in post-war Britain Manchester University Press 2025 How did young people spend their time in the post-war era? In Growing up and going out: Youth culture, commerce and leisure space in post-war Britain Sarah Kenny, a lecturer in Modern History at the University of Birmingham, explores changing spaces and places of young people's leisure. The book uses the case study of Sheffield, a city in the North of England that has often been overlooked in histories of youth culture, to examine how young people's leisure was provided, commodified, and regulated. At the same time, the book has powerful stories of young people's experiences, challenging perceptions of attitudes and activities, as well as subcultures and styles. A fascinating history, as well as an agenda setting analysis, the book should be widely read across the humanities and social sciences. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

What happens when you stop thinking of satellites as data collectors and start thinking of them as data analysts? That is precisely the shift we explore in today's episode of Tech Talks Daily with Michael Bartholomeusz, CEO of NOVI. Traditionally, Earth observation has relied on satellites to capture massive volumes of raw data, which is then transmitted back to Earth for processing. However, this model presents several significant challenges: cost, latency, and complexity. NOVI is flipping this model on its head. Instead of sending terabytes of data back down, their satellites analyze it in orbit and only transmit the results. That means smaller data packets, faster insights, and drastically reduced costs. Michael and I dig into how NOVI's space-based edge computing infrastructure is opening new opportunities in defense, agriculture, mining, and more. With multiple sensors onboard each satellite and a proprietary AI processing platform, NOVI enables organizations to fuse and process Earth observation data in real time. It is a shift from intelligence as a feature to intelligence as the foundation. We also discussed NOVI's evolving roadmap as it transitions from Department of Defense projects to a dual-use model that includes commercial services. Their commercial constellation is set to launch in early 2026 aboard SpaceX Transporter missions, and the company is already onboarding early adopters who are building custom inference models in preparation for this launch. What stands out in this conversation is NOVI's goal of democratizing Earth observation. Their open-access platform enables users to retain full ownership of their data, marking a significant departure from the closed systems that currently dominate the industry. Lower cost, faster processing, and open access could change who benefits from space data and how. So, what does it take to process AI in orbit? How do we reimagine satellites as part of the compute layer, not just the sensor layer? And what happens when access to real-time Earth intelligence becomes available to more than just governments and large enterprises? Listen in to find out.

Here is the second set of the band's performance at the Forum in Inglewood California on June 4, 1977. A long and fine set of music, luckily for us captured by a nice audience recording, results in one of the few Spring '77 shows that hasn't been commercially released. This show features quite a few 'big' numbers - Estimated>Eyes, Terrapin, Playin in the Band, Franklin's Tower.. The Playin' sandwich is really nicely done,, as is the transitions throughout the set. I hope you enjoy this one, my advice is to turn it up! The first pictures from Rubin are finally here, construction begins on the LISA mission, Webb directly images a Saturn-sized exoplanet, and do pulsar have mountains? And in Space Bites+, a fast radio burst is coming from inside the Solar System.
On this week's episode, I'm joined by Daniel Drezner—cohost of the Space the Nation podcast with Ana Marie Cox and proprietor of the Drezner's World Substack—to discuss the eternal popularity of zombies (most recently via the hit movie 28 Years Later, which I reviewed here) and the continued relevance of his book, Theories of International Politics and Zombies, which is now in its third edition. We chatted about the ways different political theories might confront waves of the undead and discussed how this book can help explain basic problems of international relations to even lay audiences. If you enjoyed this episode, I hope you share it with a friend! (And, as a bonus, here's a link to a video starring Dan, me, and Across the Movie Aisle's Alyssa Rosenberg that asked what Star Wars would have looked like if it had been shot in the style of Ken Burns's Civil War. Enjoy!)
In this show Whitley reminds us that we live in a prison of materialism. But there is so much more, and Simon Bown has written a book that can convince even the most intense skeptic that consciousness does not begin and end in the brain, that life has meaning and beauty and importance, and we are part of a great cycle of consciousness that is worth living in and participating in

Feliks Banel's guests on this LIVE REMOTE BROADCAST of CASCADE OF HISTORY from the farewell event for Seattle High School Memorial Stadium include Clay Eals and Jean Sherrard of the Seattle Times' Seattle Now & Then; Northwest sports historian and collector David Eskenazi; and music historian Eric Magnuson. The 1947 stadium, deemed unworthy of landmark status, will soon be demolished and a shiny new stadium built in its place. The structure, designed by noted architect George Stoddard, was dedicated in 1947 to the memory of 800+ Seattle Public Schools alums who died in World War II. Apart from bidding farewell to the doomed (not "domed") stadium, discussion also included the recent passing of Bobby Sherman, who played Jeremy Bolt on "Here Come The Brides" - the 1969-1971 TV series set in 1860s Seattle, which also spawned the song, "(The Bluest Skies You've Ever Seen Are In) Seattle." This LIVE broadcast of CASCADE OF HISTORY was originally presented at 4pm Pacific Standard Time on Thursday, June 26, 2025 via SPACE 101.1 FM and gallantly streaming live via space101fm.org from the rainy and nearly deserted parking lot in front of Seattle High School Memorial Stadium at Seattle Center. Early LGBTQ+ history can be hard to find. Photos, letters, literature and other artifacts have been destroyed or hidden away, in acts of homophobia, out of a fear of repercussions, and even by witting and unwitting family members. “I think a lot of LGBTQ people, when they were passing away, their materials were being destroyed by family members that didn't understand them,” said Jen Dentel, the community outreach and strategic partnerships manager at Gerber/Hart, a large LGBTQ+ library and archive in Chicago. “And so having a space by us, for us, where we would collect and preserve the history became really important.” As we learned in our last episode, some queer women boldly operated sapphic establishments in Chicago during the 1920s and ‘30s. However, there was very little written about these places. Often, the only evidence of their existence came in the form of old newspaper articles reporting on the sudden closure of these businesses at the hands of Chicago police. In this episode, Dentel and Erin Bell, Gerber/Hart's operations director, take us on a tour of this LGBTQ+ library and archive. They uncover archival treasures of the past, reveal unexpected moments in local gay history and explain the mission of the archive: to preserve queer history as a means of achieving justice and equality.

Beyond the Sessions is answering YOUR parenting questions! In this episode, Dr. Emily Upshur and I talk about... What “scaffolding” and “accommodations” actually mean, where they differ, and where they overlap. Why the exact same parenting move can either build your child's confidence or unintentionally undermine your intentions, and the simple trick to figure out which one you're doing! How your child's discomfort plays a role in how you respond to them, and the important information that can reveal to us as parents. A real-life example of the difference between scaffolding versus over-accommodating when you have a child with social anxiety - a helpful framework for what to do and what to try to avoid doing. How scaffolding is specifically tied to skill-building, both emotionally and practically. Why your own bandwidth matters and how to balance consistency with realistic expectations. Tuesday Afternoon Twitter Space 24 June 2025This lecture examines the complexities of forgiveness, arguing that it should be earned rather than given freely. Stefan Molyneux discusses the risks of unearned forgiveness, illustrating how it can lead to a lack of accountability and perpetuate harmful behaviors. He critiques societal pressures to forgive for personal peace and highlights the importance of genuine restitution, which involves acknowledgment of wrongdoing and corrective actions. The lecture further explores the implications of forgiveness in relationships, the nature of apologies, and the need for moral responsibility across generations. Through audience interactions, Molyneux emphasizes the importance of navigating forgiveness with ethical integrity and mutual respect, ultimately urging listeners to reconsider their understanding of forgiveness as a process grounded in moral accountability rather than emotional obligation.GET MY NEW BOOK 'PEACEFUL PARENTING', THE INTERACTIVE PEACEFUL PARENTING AI, AND THE FULL AUDIOBOOK!https://peacefulparenting.com/Join the PREMIUM philosophy community on the web for free!Subscribers get 12 HOURS on the "Truth About the French Revolution," multiple interactive multi-lingual philosophy AIs trained on thousands of hours of my material - as well as AIs for Real-Time Relationships, Bitcoin, Peaceful Parenting, and Call-In Shows! You also receive private livestreams, HUNDREDS of exclusive premium shows, early release podcasts, the 22 Part History of Philosophers series and much more!See you soon!https://freedomain.locals.com/support/promo/UPB2025

Australia is known for its unusual animal life, from koalas to kangaroos. But once upon a time, the Australian landscape had even weirder fauna, like Palorchestes azael, a marsupial with immense claws and a small trunk. There was Protemnodon mamkurra, a massive, slow-moving, kangaroo-like creature. And Zygomaturus trilobus, a wombat the size of a hippo. They're all extinct now, and researchers are trying to figure out why. Host Flora Lichtman talks with researcher Carli Peters about ZooMS, a technique that allows researchers to use collagen from ancient bone fragments to identify species, offering clues to those ancient extinction events. Peters recently described using the technique in the journal Frontiers in Mammal Science. And, a recent study in the journal Nature Astronomy hints that our own Milky Way galaxy may not be doomed to collide with Andromeda after all.
