Christine Massey sent FOIA requests to 225 institutions across 40 countries — including eight separate requests to the CDC — asking for any record of SARS-CoV-2 being isolated and purified from a patient's bodily fluid. Not one institution produced such a record. Massey and David Knight walk through exactly what virologists actually do instead: stress monkey kidney cells with reduced nutrition, add cow serum and antibiotics, watch the cells break down, and call that breakdown proof of a virus they never isolated in the first place. While Elsevier's most recent Clinician of the Future Report shows increasing adoption of artificial intelligence tools among physicians and nurses, and optimism that they will improve quality of care in the future, a majority raised concerns about trust and reliability. To increase the level of trust, 60% said transparent citations of evidence-based and peer-reviewed research will be key. How to provide that transparency is our focus today as Raise the Line host Lindsey Smith welcomes Elsevier colleagues Rhett Alden and Raman Kaur to guide us through the complexities involved, including the concept of traceability and what role it plays in how AI tools such as Elsevier's ClinicalKey AI are built and deployed.  “Traceability changes the confidence that a clinician has in an AI tool so that they aren't trusting the AI, they're trusting the underlying evidence they're consuming from the AI-assisted platform,” says Raman, who brings years of experience as a primary care practitioner to her work.  It's also important, Rhett adds, to provide additional information, pulled from both the clinician's query and the patient's medical record, to inform clinical thinking. “ClinicalKey AI can be more than a response engine by establishing a larger context to provide a more precise answer for that individual patient.” In this thought-provoking discussion, these experts also provide insights on: Mitigating bias in AI results; Using AI responsibly with sustainability in mind; What type of clinician will benefit most from AI Mentioned in this episode: ClinicalKey AI Clinician of the Future Report If you like this podcast, please share it on your social channels. Dr. Mike is back with a bonus episode nobody scheduled, because the screwworm did not check our calendar. The New World screwworm has arrived in the United States for the first time in sixty years, confirmed in Texas and New Mexico, with a quarantine zone now covering fourteen Texas counties. While livestock take the hardest hit, cats are absolutely at risk, because the fly lays her eggs in any open wound, and even a small scratch or post-surgical incision is enough of an invitation. The saving grace is that a year of preparation preceded this moment, with FDA emergency use authorizations now covering cats, including Credelio Cat and NexGard COMBO, and most recently a generic over-the-counter nitenpyram option that kills larvae within hours. Dr. Mike explains what living in the affected zone actually means for your cat, and whether the screwworm's steady northward march through Central America and Mexico is likely to continue up the map. We also cover the other infection keeping feline medicine on its toes: H5N1 in cats. More than 130 feline cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza H5N1 have been confirmed across the United States, from barn cats to strictly indoor pets, and cats appear to be exquisitely sensitive to the virus. The mortality rate sits somewhere between fifty and seventy percent, and whether infected cats can pass the virus to other cats remains an open and uncomfortable question. Two infections, one episode, and a very compelling argument for keeping your cat's wounds clean and your raw milk off the menu. Do not miss this one.miss.Thanks for tuning in to the Purr Podcast with Dr. Susan and Dr. Jolle! If you enjoyed today's episode, don't forget to subscribe, rate, and leave us a review—it really helps other cat lovers and vet nerds find the show. Our antibiotics are failing us. In 2025, the UK Government said antibiotic resistance (AMR) contributes to more than 35,000 deaths each year in the UK. Emergency doctors say they are losing patients on a regular basis when they run out of ways to treat them. Antibiotics have saved countless lives, but alongside them, there is another unlikely sounding ally in this fight: viruses, so small that they can attack and kill the bacteria causing these devastating infections. They are called bacteriophages, or phages for short. There are more of them than any other commonly occurring natural entity on the planet. And we could be about to see doctors using them on very ill patients in the UK. The thing is scientists have studied bacteriophages for nearly a century. They are used routinely in other countries, and science journalist Marnie Chesterton, who has been following this story for nearly a decade, asks why, suddenly, is phage all the rage?

Welcome listener to the newest and book in the Dungeonetics collection. In this season we make a thematic return to the season and lands that started it all.   Glasfiel isn't unlike any high fantasy kingdom, faced with its problems for survival all while worrying about some concern on the edge of the protected lands. Heroes rise and some fall seeking the glory and story. With time those stories become larger than the actual reality of the events, or the opposite happens. The stories of Kazaa Kingsley, Lord Albert Shaw, and Marc Ezio Torre became interlocked in the deep survival tapestry of Glasfiel. The only thing to erase a memory, and a history, would have to be an event so cataclysmic it would reallign the construct everyone believed in...   Now with the passing of time we revisit Glasfiel, after a reshaking of the system, which heroes will rise this time. Welcome to Dungeonetics.   On an editors note I am truly happy to continue the light escapism and poignant acts of defiance that I self identify this cast to be. It is shouting truth to power on a budget in light of a sun that wakes me each glorious day. I refuse to stay quiet and I refuse to feel helpless. Art for the sake of art is a self expression you cant bomb out of existence. To the fighters, I say power to all. Now for the attribution. Thank you again to Virus of Ideals, Kellen, Games Brown, Free sound.org, Jon Francia, all the players this season who hopefully will self identify, and to all their unique support structures that lay behind them so grown creatives can play with plastic orbs on vinyl mats.   It matters.   Thank you again to The Geekonomics Podcast Network. If not for these noble few to take on the dragon, than who would be here to slog in the dungeon. By the way, this isn't hard work, anyone can podcast. Even badly...   But it takes something special to make it magical. Have a magical adventure

It's been one year since the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in an unprecedented move, dismissed all the members of its Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), kicking off what would turn out to be a very concerning and busy year for infectious disease specialists.  We're going to recap this turbulent period – which includes a resurgence of measles, an unusually rough flu season, the emergence of a new COVID strain and outbreaks of hantavirus and Ebola – with Dr. William Schaffner, one of the country's most frequently quoted medical experts on infectious disease, vaccination, and public health. As a member of ACIP for decades, Dr. Schaffner brings unique insight into the dismantling of the committee and the distrust of vaccines that lies at the root of the changes. As he explains to Raise the Line host Lindsey Smith, while many vaccine critics are beyond reach, there are those he describes as vaccine hesitant that may be persuadable if the right approach is taken. “Beyond providing facts, we have to listen to them and respond to their concerns and make them feel comfortable. Information is fundamental, but behavior change only comes with a change in attitude.” Tune in for a wealth of wisdom and context that includes observations on: What's complicating containment of the Ebola outbreak; Challenges in public health communication in the current social media environment; What grade health authorities should get on their response to the hantavirus outbreak. What Causes Cancer? The Truth Most Doctors Don't Talk AboutIn this episode of Intellectual Medicine, Dr. Stephen Petteruti explores the relationship between cancer, metabolism, sugar, insulin, body fat, and prostate cancer progression. He discusses the Warburg theory, which suggests that cancer may begin with dysfunctional mitochondrial metabolism, and compares it with the later focus on genetic causes of cancer. While he argues that the idea of “starving cancer” by eliminating sugar is too simplistic, he also emphasizes that metabolic health plays a real role in cancer risk and progression. The episode focuses heavily on prostate cancer, which Dr. Petteruti describes as unique compared with other cancers. He argues that conventional approaches often overlook the environment in which cancer develops, including excess body fat, high insulin, elevated blood sugar, inflammation, and poor metabolic health. He also discusses tests such as fasting insulin, hemoglobin A1c, and continuous glucose monitoring, as well as the importance of nutritional and behavioral change. The episode closes with a warning against extreme diets, oversimplified supplement advice, and one-size-fits-all cancer theories.Timestamps:(00:00) What Causes Cancer?(01:02 )The Warburg Theory(02:14) Genetics vs. Metabolism(04:22) Why “Starving Cancer” Is Too Simplistic(05:42) Body Fat, Insulin, and Prostate Cancer(08:30) Tests That May Help Assess Metabolic Health(10:47) Food, Weight Loss, and Cancer Risk(13:42) The Anti-Cancer Lifestyle(15:04) Toxins, Viruses, and Parasites(16:15) NAD, Mitochondria, and Supplement Caution(17:33) Growth Hormone, IGF-1, and Cancer Risk(19:12) Why Extreme Dieting Is Not the AnswerEnjoy the podcast? “There is more spending in defence and less spending in global health or in public health or health security, which makes us vulnerable...Because the invisible enemy could be more impactful. Imagine, have you ever seen a war in recent memory that killed 20 million people? Why can't we come to our senses?”Justin Webb speaks to Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organisation, about the invisible threat of viruses and the rapid spread of a new strain of Ebola.Tedros recently visited the Democratic Republic of Congo where this latest outbreak started. It is particularly challenging because it involves a rare species of Ebola for which there is no vaccine, and the epicentre is in an area affected by conflict. There are also cases in neighbouring Uganda. The WHO General-Director claims governments are focusing too much on defence spending, and he makes an impassioned plea for countries to allocate more money to global health, and to prevent future pandemics.Thank you to the Today team for its help in making this programme.      The word “intelligence” was never neutral. It was the sales pitch. This episode argues that the systems sold as artificial intelligence are not minds, thinkers, or neutral judges. They are privately owned prediction and sorting machines trained on human data, wrapped in language that makes people trust them, defer to them, and surrender power without asking who owns the system, who profits from it, or who answers when it is wrong.Name the machine correctly before it names you.

Should You Feed A Viral Illness? This Nature news article discusses emerging evidence that eating may acutely enhance immune responsiveness, particularly through effects on T cells, the learning part of the adaptive immune system. The paper centers on the old saying “feed a cold, starve a fever,” suggesting there may actually be biologic truth behind at least the “feed a cold” half of the proverb. The article reviews a new study in mice and humans showing that T cells, key adaptive immune cells responsible for recognizing and attacking pathogens, behave differently depending on recent nutritional status. Researchers found that T cells from recently fed organisms proliferated more rapidly and mounted stronger activation responses compared with those from fasting states. In essence, nutrient availability appears to act as a metabolic “permission signal” for immune activation. .... Enjoy, Dr. M

"Do nothing for us without us." According to today's guest Robyn Bussey, that operating principle is the basis for effective community health work. "You don't go into a community and dictate. You go and listen and trust and be a partner," she adds. As you'll learn in this enlightening conversation, Bussey is following that approach in her current work as Just Health Director at the Partnership for Southern Equity, an Atlanta-based nonprofit advancing racial equity and shared prosperity across the South.  On this episode of Raise the Line from Elsevier, Bussey provides illuminating  examples of community-rooted work in South Fulton County and rural Georgia, and explains why community health workers may be the most underutilized asset in addressing health disparities. This wide-ranging interview with host Michael Carrese also explores: Bussey's candid perspective on what happened to the surge of interest in health equity that occurred during COVID; Why life expectancy gains in many Southern states have lagged behind the rest of the country; Her advice to students and early-career clinicians about where they're needed most.   Mentioned in this episode:  Partnership for Southern Equity If you like this podcast, please share it on your social channels. Episode 43: Preparation - Archangel Michael Episode 43 begins at night, starting with the Angels speaking in Angelic “light language” and channeling that shifts into English, describing escalating events and a shadow government allegedly choosing between a new virus campaign and a staged alien “Blue Beam” invasion near elections to prevent voting and retain power. People find the alien releases disappointing and want full transparency and proof of aliens and ET life. The Galactic Federation is watching and may intervene, and Pleiadian (human looking) ETs will be the first to meet humans. New information explains that time-manipulation can avert disasters. Current multiple timelines allegedly intertwine (causing duplicates and disorienting “dimension” experiences), with CERN said to have caused this. The channeling discusses hidden ocean creatures, underwater bases, Bigfoot secrecy, grays as time-traveling beings from the future. The Anunnaki have an agreement with the Galactic Federation regarding disclosure and open contact. We learn about multiple “Sources,” and discover information about China's advanced micro-drone surveillance. Practical advice includes solar power, seeds, fertilizer, leaving cities during calamity, weapons, and limited mask use; they warn against future shots and say a new virus would be claimed airborne.   00:00 Midnight Podcast Setup 02:11 Virus or Fake Invasion 05:49 Angels as Light Beings 06:57 Alara/Sarah Joins In 07:39 Mysteries in the Ocean 15:17 New Virus Talk Returns 17:11 Galactic Federation Watch 20:26 Who Are the Grays 22:09 Anunnaki and Human Origins 25:29 Free Energy Future 29:36 Time Machines and Comets 33:25 Why They Don't Intervene 38:09 Timeline Glitches Explained 40:49 Timeline Memory Glitches 41:29 CERN and Timeline Manipulation 42:16 Election Calamity Plot 45:06 Life Without a President 46:47 Prepping Solar and Seeds 51:00 Cities Collapse and Survival 52:09 Masks and New Virus Claims 56:15 Dolphins and Nano Drones 01:01:09 Tartaria and Ancient Earth 01:05:15 Many Sources and Religion 01:09:30 Aliens Versus Demons Debate 01:14:54 Project Blue Beam Finale 01:17:10 Closing the Channeling
