We have a great episode this week featuring our first look at Hideo Kojima's Death Stranding 2. We dive into this beautiful world and explore the early hours of the strand game. Brett dives into Sloclap's Rematch. These are the developers of Sifu entering into the competitive scene with a soccer game. It's a paid title with some solid mechanics, but is it enough to keep us engaged? We also review Thronefall on the Steam Deck. It just released on mobile devices, but this game originally released in 2024 and is an RTS/tower defense mix. It has a beautiful art style, great progression and a simple but complex loop that keeps you coming back for more.Sony brought a big update with the upcoming Ghost of Yotei from Sucker Punch. This is the follow up to Ghost of Tsushima and we want to know if Ghost of Yotei can outshine Tsushima? There's a ton of new features coming to this game and a whole new set of ways to uncover the world and we're excited to get our hands on it in October.Lastly, Brett rolled credits in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and it may be one of his favorite games of all time. This game has it all. A fantastic score, brilliant combat, an incredibly beautiful world and the most genuine team that crafted a masterpiece with an ending you won't forget. If you're tired of The Last of Us, well, it's really too bad. That's because Naughty Dog has updated The Last of Us: Part II yet again, this time with a so-called Chronological Mode that orders the game's chapters and subchapters sequentially. It's easy to mock this many updates, of course, but in reality, is Sony going above-and-beyond in keeping some of its older games alive? Shouldn't we applaud the years-long dedication to not only The Last of Us, but to God of War, Ghost of Tsushima, Days Gone, Horizon, and others? We discuss. Then: Twisted Metal's second season on Peacock gets a new trailer, STALKER 2 is finally confirmed for PlayStation 5, Final Fantasy IX Remake may be in trouble, Capcom acknowledges Mega Man, and more. Plus: Listener inquiries! If we could only play a single game-as-a-service, which would it be? Could gaming be entering a more serious phase, as the industry finds itself fused more with education? Is it crazy to play sequels without having experienced the original? What are the percentage odds Colin is on the precipice of becoming a Kingdom Hearts superfan? Carlos here—The Running Jackal—doing something a little different today. I'm not on foot. I'm on my little bike. After just missing the light at Mackenzie Avenue, I paused my recording. Then off I went—rolling past the noisy bustle, aiming toward Hamilton Hops & Grapes to pick up some brewing supplies. You see, Save-On-Foods was out of DME (that's Dry Malt Extract for the uninitiated). And yes, I'm still brewing—weekly batches now—finely tuned to the right bottle count and desired strength. As I rolled down Quadra Street, “Nothing But the Blues” played from my phone tucked in my pocket, while my trusty Sony voice recorder nestled deep in the pouch. I hoped the wind wouldn't muffle too much. The pouch's opening is quite large, but the recorder's weight helps—it settles deep. Hopefully no wind tunnel effects today. I cruised over the Swan Lake Trestle Bridge, past the spot where the Lochside and Galloping Goose trails converge. This stretch is familiar—I often see my birding friend here in the mornings. They say this spot is known as the Saanich Spur, where old rail lines once split toward Sydney and Courtenay. Now, it's a trail for thinkers, runners, and riders like me. As I zipped past cyclists (117 and counting), I chuckled to myself. Some say you can ride 30km/h. Me? I'm happy with 15. It's not just about the bike—though mine is humble—it's also about youth, strength, and that extra bit of juice I don't always have these days. Still, I got up a good head of speed—probably hit 35km/h—coming down the hill near Douglas Street on the Switch Bridge. Back in the day, that was a railway crossing. Now, it's a pedestrian bridge that gives you a nice acoustic thrill when you shoot through the tunnel. I may have done it twice... just for the sound. At home, life at the lair ticks along. I've made a deal with my neighbor, John, for some firewood. His dead Garry Oak needs to come down, but there's a delay—we're waiting on the city permit. Funny that you don't need a permit to prune a tree, but you do to take it down, even if it's clearly dead. Bureaucracy at its finest. John's letting me take the larger prunings—the stuff too big for the shredder. Once the permit's in, and the tree crew returns, I'll roll over my wheelbarrow and haul those logs home. Two trips, maybe. Enough for the winter, I reckon. They won't split the rounds, but I've asked for a burnable length. We'll see. Anyway, I arrived at Hamilton's a little early. No lights on yet. It's 9:22 and they don't open till 10. Sometimes the woman who helps with the business gets in early and opens the doors once the alarm is off and the lights are on. Fingers crossed. I brought my lock just in case. So, I did what I always seem to do lately—wait for the shop to open. Eight kilometers from my fridge, parked out back, I went for a little scenic walk. And just like that, my day came full circle—camera in hand, trail beneath my feet, back where I started this story: waiting, walking, and wondering. No Sunday show this week, but expect a fresh running podcast on Wednesday. Until then, this has been The Running Jackal, spinning down the trails and through life—on bike, on foot, and always on the move. Bye-bye everyone.

#579 Zenia Monteagudo is an experienced music and event photographer who has recently begun exploring family portraiture. Zenia shares her personalized journey into photography, starting from her early fascination with disposable and point-and-shoot cameras to a pivotal moment when she purchased a Sony camera on clearance at Target. This chance purchase set her on an unexpected path, leading to opportunities in music photography, including shooting concerts at iconic venues like Red Rocks.KEY TOPICS COVEREDStarting a Photography Journey & Building Confidence - Zenia's chance transition from hobbyist to semi-professional highlights the role of curiosity and saying "yes" to new experiences, even without a portfolio. Building confidence can be a struggle, but validation from others—such as bands requesting to use her photos—provided the encouragement to pursue her passion professionally.Concert Photography: Skills, Challenges, and Opportunities - Zenia offers a frank look at shooting concerts, from initial “shot in the dark” gigs to handling pro gear, unpredictable lighting, and the high-energy atmosphere of music events. She emphasizes the need for adaptability, technical growth (moving from kit lenses and manual focus to more sophisticated equipment), and the thrill of capturing authentic moments.Transitioning Between Genres & The Power of Candid Photography - The episode contrasts concert photography with family portraiture and events, exploring Zenia's process as she adapts to settings with different expectations, emotion levels, and technical requirements. Her candid approach, focused on real moments over posed photos, remains consistent.IMPORTANT DEFINITIONS & CONCEPTSPhoto Pass: Special permission or credentials granted (often by a venue or band) allowing a photographer to access areas for professional photography, particularly in concert settings. It often requires a portfolio and/or assignment from a publication.Candid Photography: A style of photography where subjects are captured naturally, without posed arrangements or direct awareness of the camera. This approach centers on authenticity, emotion, and storytelling.DISCUSSION & REFLECTION QUESTIONSWhat opportunities can arise from saying "yes" to experiences outside your comfort zone as a photographer? How does photographing candid moments at events or concerts build storytelling skills in photography? In what ways does the environment (concert, event, family session) influence the techniques and mindset you bring as a photographer?RESOURCES:Follow Zenia Monteagudo on Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/zen_e_ah_/Sign up for your free CloudSpot Account today at www.DeliverPhotos.comConnect with Raymond! James Gunn's Superman held its premiere in London July, 2, where the director confidently told The Times of London that his superhero epic celebrates "the story of America" and champions basic human kindness in a world that desperately needs it. Meanwhile, star David Corenswet shared at the London premiere that his predecessors did “a very Superman thing,” with former Men of Steel Henry Cavill and Tyler Hoechlin encouraging him to make the role his own.Universal's Jurassic World Rebirth chomped its way to a $147 million five-day weekend opening during the Fourth of July. While those numbers would make any studio exec happy, they're actually a steep drop from the franchise's predecessors, suggesting that after 32 years, audiences might be experiencing some dino-fatigue. Universal clearly saw the writing on the wall and slashed the production budget from a mammoth $250 million down to a more modest $180 million, but the franchise is still roaring overseas. Australian-American actor Julian McMahon, beloved for his roles in Nip/Tuck, Charmed, and as Dr. Doom in the 2000's 20th Century Fox Fantastic Four films, died peacefully on July 2nd at age 56 following a private battle with cancer.Michael Madsen, the gravel-voiced character actor best known for his menacing roles in Quentin Tarantino's Reservoir Dogs, Kill Bill, and The Hateful Eight, died Thursday morning from cardiac arrest at his Malibu home at age 67.The next installment in Denis Villenueve's Dune franchise will officially be titled Dune: Three. Villenueve also revealed that the film will be shot entirely using IMAX cameras.According to a rumor from The DisInsider, Disney and LucasFilm are having active conversations planning a full reboot of the Indiana Jones franchise. The Last of Us co-creator Neil Druckmann is stepping down as co-showrunner of the HBO series after completing work on season two, choosing to return his focus to video game development at Naughty Dog including his next project Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. Craig Mazin will continue as sole showrunner for season three, while Druckmann retains his executive producer credit on the critically acclaimed series. The Office star Craig Robinson announced on Instagram that he's officially quitting comedy to focus on his true calling. However, industry insiders believe this is likely a marketing stunt, as mysterious billboards have appeared in Los Angeles and Robinson still has comedy shows scheduled through the end of the year.Chris Pratt will reprise his role as the voice of Garfield in an animated sequel to Sony's 2024 The Garfield Movie, which grossed over $230 million dollars at the worldwide box office.Wicked director Jon M. Chu has signed on to helm a live-action Hot Wheels movie for Warner Bros. and Mattel Studios, with screenwriters Juel Taylor and Tony Rettenmaier from Creed II and They Cloned Tyrone penning the script and J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot producing. The high-octane action film follows Mattel's success with Barbie as the toy company continues mining its properties for big-screen adaptations.Jimmy Olsen actor Skyler Gisondo revealed he mistakenly believed he was auditioning for the title role in James Gunn's Superman film, thinking the character name in his audition materials was just a placeholder to hide the fact he was reading for Clark Kent. The mix-up led to an awkward phone call with his representatives who had to clarify who he was actually auditioning for, though director James Gunn reportedly loved the story.

Serious question, why call something Rebirth, if there is no rebirthing, where was the rebirthing? Yes I have a full review of Jurassic World Rebirth in todays drop. Plus more fallout from the Microsoft and Xbox layoffs, and who is to blame? Helldivers 2 is dropping on Xbox next month, and Nintendo ponders the future of game development. ScarJo is now the highest grossing lead actor ever, John M Chu is going to be racing into theaters as the director of Hot Wheels. Meanwhile James Gunn and Zack Snyder portal into Rick and Morty in the least suspecting way.

In the early 2000s, the Japanese press referred to Sony, Sanyo and Sharp as the 3S. Sanyo has this fascinating history. A ubiquitous Japanese electronics brand I saw all the time growing up. The company rode a wave of economic growth and globalization. But like other Japanese companies of this first generation, they failed to adapt. In today's video, the life and times of Sanyo.

This week, the boys get trippy with the 1980 psychedelic sci-fi transformation drama “Altered States”, a film so divisive that writer Paddy Chayefsky put his three Oscars in a closet and penned his adaptation of his own novel under a pseudonym. The Ken Russell-directed film introduced the film world to William Hurt and let Bob Balaban keep his beard, and it also unleashed Bigfoot on major metropolises. We also revisit F1: The Movie, give some context to the film year 1980, before engaging in our featured conversation. Grab a beer and give us a listen! Our phone number is 646-484-9298. Let Us Know What You Think of the Show!Date: July 9, 2025Name of podcast: Backstage Pass RadioS9: E1: Kristen Kelly - Silence Finds Its VoiceSHOW SUMMARY:Meet Kristen Kelly, the knife-carrying Texas singer-songwriter whose journey from small-town volleyball player to Nashville recording artist defies all expectations. In this raw and revealing conversation, Kristen takes us behind the music to share the remarkable story that shaped both her life and artistry. Growing up on 10 acres in Lorena, Texas, with a musical family heritage including her grandfather Sterling Kelly (a country singer-songwriter), Kristen first found her way to music through an unexpected opportunity while bartending during college. What followed was a winding path through the Texas music scene that eventually led to a Sony Nashville record deal in 2011, touring alongside legends like Willie Nelson, Brad Paisley, and Alan Jackson. Kristen courageously shares her experience as a child sexual abuse survivor, revealing how writing poetry to process her trauma ultimately transformed into songwriting that connected with audiences. This healing journey has inspired not only her music but also her advocacy work through her restaurant Storyville Texas and her newly launched podcast "Something We're Saying," where she creates space for others to share their truths. Music aficionados will appreciate the behind-the-scenes stories of co-writing the Texas chart-topper "Down in Flames" with Brandon Jenkins and Stoney LaRue, working with legendary songwriter Paul Overstreet, and the 12-year journey to finally release her complete "Warrior" album that Sony had shelved. Kristen also reveals exciting news about her upcoming live album recorded at the Floribama and her song "Drink Myself Out Of Love With You" impacting Texas radio. Through every high and low, Kristen demonstrates what it means to lead with love and find purpose through pain. Outsourcing To Grow Profitably with Yoni Kozminski What if you could scale your business into eight figures using an offshore team, lean capital, and rock-solid systems? On this episode of The Profit Answer Man, we sit down with Yoni Kozminski – a global entrepreneur who built not one but two bootstrapped companies past the $10M revenue mark. He shares the exact strategies he used to scale using top-tier talent from the Philippines, all while maintaining high profitability and operational control. If you're looking to reduce margin-killing inefficiencies and systematize your way to profit freedom, this episode is your game plan. In This Episode, You'll Learn: How Yoni bootstrapped two companies past $10M+ with just $100K in capital. Why hiring offshore isn't about cheap labor – it's about buying leverage strategically. The difference between SOPs that gather dust and those that create clarity and scale. How to avoid the hidden tax of operational chaos and stop being the bottleneck in your business. Why process improvement is your best risk management tool. The playbook to build an EOS-aligned, system-driven company with profit-first thinking at its core. Key Takeaways: You don't need VC money to scale. Yoni's blueprint shows how leveraging talent and process beats chasing capital. 95% offshore doesn't mean lower quality – it means higher ROI. When done right, this approach creates margin-rich scale. Process is the new profit lever. SOPs aren't just for compliance; they're the foundation of sustainable growth. Hiring top talent isn't about geography – it's about alignment, clarity, and culture. Financial freedom starts with operational freedom. If your business can't run without you, you don't own a business—you own a job. About Yoni Kozminski: Yoni brings 15+ years of global marketing and strategy expertise, having worked with brands like Mercedes-Benz, Sony, and Mastercard. After scaling and selling a $5M Amazon business, he founded MultiplyMii and Escala – powerhouse agencies that specialize in elite offshore hiring and process optimization. His companies were bootstrapped with just $100,000 and now generate over $10M in combined revenue annually, with a team that's 95% based in the Philippines. Yoni now helps entrepreneurs systematize, scale, and reclaim their time – all while growing their bottom line. Conclusion: If you're serious about scaling without stress and multiplying your profits without multiplying your headaches, this episode is a masterclass in operational leverage. The warning was given by many last week, we discussed it, and on Wednesday, it happened. Microsoft 9,100 employees were laid off across all departments, with a sizeable chunk coming from the Xbox division. Sean and Marc discuss the fallout of it all, which includes the cancellation of Rare's Everwild, the closure of The Initiative studio, and the subsequent cancellation of its game, the Perfect Dark Reboot. There's even more, including the incredible downsizing of the Forza Motorsport studio, Turn-10 as well. Is Game Pass to blame? Is it the push towards AI? Is it mismanagement from executives? Has the Activision-Blizzard-King merger's spending come back to generate some revenue? We examine it all and try to make any sense of this, and will this ever reach a stopping point for Xbox? On another front, Sony's prize live service game, Helldivers 2, is headed to Xbox on August 26. Is this a sign of Sony following in Xbox's footsteps? Or is this a one-off case where a multiplayer game needs more players to keep thriving? Plus, Marc has more to say on Death Stranding 2, Sean has finally made progress on Clair Obscur Expedition 33, and has made it to Act 3 too. You can also watch this episode in video form on the W2M Network Youtube Channel, please give us a like, comment on the episode, and give the channel a subscribe and follow as well: https://youtube.com/live/FRVncpBsHmw
For the first time ever, PlayStation is publishing one of its own games on Xbox. The new port comes in the form of 2024's smash-hit multiplayer game Helldivers 2 from second party studio Arrowhead, and though Sony has a long-but-silent history of bringing games to other consoles -- there was a Wipeout game on N64, after all, and the likes of Death Stranding and MLB: The Show have already migrated to Xbox via intermediaries -- never before have they acted as publisher. Is this a one-off, or a move that could signify a new strategy? Will Xbox players conditioned to Game Pass put their money where their mouth is? Are single-player exclusives next? Then: Neil Druckmann announces he's done with The Last of Us on HBO, instead turning his full attention back to Naughty Dog, while it sure does sound like Sony-owned team Firesprite is openly hiring for a PlayStation 6 project. After some other news, we get into what we're playing before ending the show as we always do, with six questions, comments, concerns, thoughts, and ideas from our audience. What are our ruminations concerning Xbox's recent layoffs and cancellations? Will the PS5 era be looked back upon as a generation of wasted potential? How do we feel about the Stop Killing Games initiative in Europe? Are some listeners intentionally exposing their wives to Sacred Symbols in order to facilitate a divorce?
