Carl Jung's personality archetypes are essentially an outline to that features all characters that we embody while helping people understand what ones they lean towards more and what motivates their choices in life. Join Dave and Greg as they discuss the Jungian Archetypes and discuss how understanding yourself can help you become a more effective individual.
In this podcast we will be talking about how to know your true self using Jungian Archetypes according to the philosophy of Carl Jung. Carl Jung's psychology is called analytical psychology and his philosophy is dubbed as “Jungian philosophy”. Jung's most famous theory is ‘the individuation process.' Carl Jung introduced the world to the idea of archetypes - common personality patterns that exist in everyone's mind. These archetypes affect how we think, act, and interact with the world. Imagine waking up with no memory of who you are—no name, no past, no identity. Yet, even with this blank slate, something inside you pulls in a certain direction. Maybe you feel an instinct to protect others, an unshakable drive to explore the unknown, or a knack for bending situations to your advantage. As you observe the world, patterns emerge. Some people step forward with confidence, while others linger in the background. Some deceive, some nurture, some fight for justice, and others thrive in chaos. At first, it seems random, but then a realization hits—you're not alone in this. People everywhere are shaped by unseen forces, playing out roles they may not even be aware of. You can think of Jung's archetypes as universal patterns that shape how we think, feel, and act. They appear across cultures and time periods, persisting in myths, stories, and even our daily lives. And these roles aren't confined to fiction. They shape us in the real world. A young entrepreneur fighting for a vision is living the Hero's journey. A mentor guiding others embodies the Wise Old Man. A disruptor challenging the status quo channels the Trickster. These patterns influence how we see ourselves, the choices we make, and the way we navigate life - often without us even realising it. So, which archetypes are shaping you? So here are the steps you need to take to truly know yourself using Jungian Archetypes according to the philosophy of Carl Jung. 01. Understanding the Structure of Your Psyche 02. Understanding different Archetypes 03. Analyse your dreams 04. Pay attention to your archetypes in your waking life 05. Integrate Archetypes for Personal Growth I hope you enjoyed listening to this podcast and hope that this wisdom on how to truly know yourself using Jungian Archetypes according to the philosophy of Carl Jung, will be helpful in your life. Carl Jung, together with Sigmund Freud and Alfred Adler, is one of the 3 founders of psychoanalysis which is a set of psychological theories and methods aiming to release repressed emotions and experiences - in other words, to make the unconscious conscious. Jung was born in Switzerland in 1875 and died in 1961, leaving behind great works in the fields of psychiatry, anthropology, archaeology, literature, philosophy, psychology and religious studies. Jung had Freud as a mentor for a good part of his career but later he departed from him. This division was painful for Jung and it led him to found his own school of psychology, called analytical psychology as a comprehensive system separate from psychoanalysis. If classical psychoanalysis focuses on the patient's past, as early experiences are very important in personality development, analytical psychology primarily focuses on the present, on mythology, folklore, and cultural experiences, to try to understand human consciousness. One of the most important ideas of analytical psychology which Jung founded is the process of individuation, which is the process of finding the self - something Jung considered an important task in human development. While he did not formulate a systematic philosophy, he is nonetheless considered a sophisticated philosopher - his school of thought dubbed “Jungian philosophy”. Its concepts can apply to many topics covered in the humanities and the social sciences. A good part of his work was published after his death and indeed there are still some articles written by him that to this day have yet to be published. Some of his most important books are: “Psychology of the Unconscious”, “Man and His Symbols”, “The Archetypes and The Collective Unconscious”, “Modern Man In Search of a Soul”, “The Psychology of the Transference”, “Memories, Dreams, Thoughts”, and “The Relations Between the Ego and the Unconscious”. Besides being a great writer and a researcher, he was also an artist, a craftsman and even a builder. His contribution is enormous and there is a great deal we can learn from his works.

Today on the podcast I welcome back author and psychotherapist Rod Boothroyd as we revisit the archetype of the Sovereign, King or the Queen. The Sovereign is the part of us that is responsible for vision, power, potency, blessing ourselves and others, and bringing order to our internal and external worlds. The King is also the part of us responsible for the spiritual side of our lives. Today Rod goes deeper into the subject of the King archetype with the release of his new book, Finding The King Within. What are the positive aspects and what are the shadows? How do we connect to this energy in a benevolent way? --- Rod Boothroyd is a counsellor, psychotherapist, a certified “Healing The Shadow” practitioner and the author of the books Warrior, Magician, Lover, King – a guide to the male archetypes updated for the 21st century and Finding The King Within. He works with men, women and mixed groups to heal the wounds of childhood with Marianne Hill and also trains people in the art of working with the shadow and healing emotional wounds. Some of the questions for Rod: What is the King or Sovereign archetype? What makes a balanced and mature King?In writing the book you talk about 41 different qualities and values that a mature King embodies. What for you are 5 of the most important qualities that we need to cultivate? What are the shadows of the archetypes? What are the specific shadows of the King archetype?I would love you to speak more about the importance of emotional intelligence in the realm of the sovereign? Why is it so important? If we don't have access to our emotions how might that affect the relationship to our sovereign?“Many men today are really a kind of adolescent “boy-man”, arrested in development between boyhood and mature masculinity.”( p.7) Could you please talk to this. How do we move into mature masculinity? What would you say is the key emotion of the King and why is this emotion so important for a mature male? What are some ways of embodying this emotion?Could you please talk about stewardship and the connection to the sovereign archetype? How do we cultivate the King - what are the steps that we can take to embody the King more fully in our lives? You give 20 different ways of embodying the King energy. Which of these methods are the most relevant to today's man? If someone was to start with 5 practices what would you start them out with?#kingwarriormagicianlover #kingarchetype #rodboothroyd --- Piers is an author and a men's transformational coach and therapist who works mainly with trauma, boarding school issues, addictions and relationship problems. Cronin Cullen breaks down the 12 Jungian Archetypes, giving an overview of each archetype's characteristics, strengths, and weaknesses. He reveals why Castability breaks down scenes into archetypes, and how each character seen on TV and Film can fit into one of these 12 character types. Understanding which archetypes best showcase your acting skills helps you market yourself accurately to those around you, while being able to write for these archetypes allows writers to create well-developed characters and gives casting more specificity as they go into casting a role. — What are Archetypes? — Archetypes, Stereotypes, Stock Characters, and Typecasting — The Lover (ex: Claire Danes as Juliet, "Romeo & Juliet") — The Hero (ex: Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, "Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope") — The Wizard (ex: Laurence Fishburne as Morpheus, "The Matrix") — The Rebel (ex: Kerry Washington as Olivia Pope, "Scandal") — The Explorer (ex: Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones, "Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade") — The Sage (ex: Pat Morita as Mr. Miyagi, "Karate Kid") — The Innocent (ex: Tom Hanks as Forrest Gump, "Forrest Gump") — The Everyperson (ex: Quvenzhané Wallis as Annie, "Annie") — The Caregiver (ex: Viola Davis as Aibileen Clark, "The Help") — The Creator (ex: Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka, "Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory") — The Jester (ex: Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow, "Pirates of the Caribbean 1: The Curse of the Black Pearl") — The Ruler (ex: Chadwick Boseman as T'Challa, "Black Panther") Episode Resources: Quiz 1: Discover Your 12 Jungian Archetypes Quiz 2: Jungian Archetype Test by Psychologist World Castability's Archetype Breakdown The Hero's Journey by Joseph Campbell Email admin@castability.actor with all your archetype thoughts! ──────────────────────────── Learn more about the Castability app right here. As a couple of kids who grew up in American evangelicalism, Tarot cards were a taboo we never even considered violating in our youth. Now, we discuss the ways in which Jungian understanding of archetypes of the collective unconscious helped us make use of Tarot for personal healing and growth. Part 1: Our uneasy relationship with tarot, CG Jung's idea of the archetypes of the collective unconscious, how we got into using these cards for self exploration rather than fortune telling, and why we think this all might be helpful for folks extracting themselves from unhealthy religious landscapes. Part 2: Exploration and demonstration of the newish phenomenon of Neo-shamanistic, New Age oracle cards, which tend to involve inspirational messages for transformation and growth. BTW: If you are an expert in tarot or oracle cards and think we've got something wrong, feel free to reach out and help us get it right.

Lynn and Destiny are BACK (and a little buzzed) to talk about more shadows and more archetypes. But first, we talk about our moon and rising signs and Lynn tells an embarrassing childhood story. After that, we get into eight Jungian archetypes: the self, the shadow, the anima, the animus, the persona, the hero, the wise old man, and the trickster. We also get into the female version of Robert Moore's archetypes from last episode and Lynn throws a mini fit about how crappy she thinks they are. What does Bigfoot mean to you? Why does he pop up all over the place? Why is Bigfoot such an iconic symbol of cryptozoology, and why is he shared among people of every culture around the world? Darwin gathers up the courage to open up and talk about the bane of his cryptozoological interests! But this is not an attempt to bash Bigfoot, no, on the contrary! We explore the psycho-social significance of Bigfoot as an archetype in the collective unconsciousness, how much it may tell us about the human experience, and how it is a symbol shared among all people worldwide regardless of their cultural or historical context. Unfortunately, this is not the Bigfoot discussion many are expecting, or are used to. Many in the cryptid community will deny it, and many will not be willing to face the ultimate truth: That cryptozoology is a social science! ====================== Send us suggestions and comments to tracingowlspodcast@gmail.com Follow us on Instagram @tracingowls Intro sampled from "Something strange lurks in the shadows" by Francisco Sánchez (@fanchisanchez) Sound effects obtained from https://www.zapsplat.com ====================== FURTHER READING: Indiana Mud Mermaids and Extended History of Van Meter, Iowa | Campfire: Tales of the Strage and the Unsettling | Jordan Heath | Bigfoot Society Episode 45 - The Ozark Howler | Campfire: Tales of the Strange and Unsettling Jungian archetypes | Wikipedia Loren Coleman, Patrick Huyghe (1999): Field Guide To Bigfoot, Yeti, & Other Mystery Primates Worldwide. Daniel J. Moore is Creative Director at Iron Dragon Design, a freelance creative studio based in Bournemouth, UK. Daniel's a graphic designer whose designs are eye-catching, often encapsulating the love and interest he has in all things ‘mythical'. It's a passion he brings to both his work and play. He's an avid live-action role player. Part artist part psychologist Daniel uses the 12 Jungian Archetypes to help businesses define their brand story. It's a concept I find fascinating. Alongside that, we discuss how his mental health has been an issue in the past and he shares with me the strategies he used to help him put his depression in context. What archetype are you? There's a lot of cultural clutter these days around 'The Goddess.' She appears everywhere, her many names are invoked free of context in a hundred thousand ways. She's what? An empowerment tool. An archetype. A self-help course. A political symbol. Something that is invoked to bring more creative energy or material abundance into our lives. Something that, in an individualistic modern world, always seems to have a whole lot to do with us. Yet the goddess, traditionally, is much more than this. She is the animating power of the universe itself, felt in bodies, realized in states of deep conjunctive rapture, accessed through ritual protocols, alive in trees and stones and living geography, alive in song, alive in the myths and stories of her, alive in sound, alive in longing, alive in trance, alive in the states of consciousness realized by those who feel her. This devotional episode honors the goddess as the animating power of creation, drawing on her texts, her myths, her songs, and on personal experiences of journey to her sacred seats to evoke her as a living presence rather than as a conceptual abstraction. With songs and slokas from special guest Nivedita Gunturi. Support the show (http://www.patreon.com/theemeraldpodcast)
Hello and Welcome Back to The Psychotic Break! This week, Madey and Kimi have taken on a very difficult topic: Jungian Archetypes. Ever heard of the collective unconscious? This is a concept proposed by Carl Jung that states each human being is connected by shared experiences and ideals of the past. These shared ideals take the form of archetypes or images/patterns of who we are on the inside. Tune in to learn more!Instagram: @thepsychoticbreak.pod

In a world that idealizes both romantic love and living as an independent woman, it's easy to find yourself stuck between these two black and white extremes. Our guest this month has found herself at this very crossroads; protective of the loving relationship she's carefully crafted for herself over the years while also longing to eventually build a life with a partner who she connects deeply with. Using a wide array of perspectives including social conditioning, Jungian Archetypes, and of course, Attachment Theory, Love Guide + Women's Empowerment Coach Taryn Newton-Gill helps our guest break down her black and white thinking into smaller shades of gray so that she can learn to balance and integrate her co-existing identities as both a strong, independent woman and a loving partner. Hey everybody! Episode 36 of the show is out. In this episode, I spoke with my friend Irene Pérez Méndez. Irene and I met working at the Amazonian plant medicine center, the Temple of the Way of Light, where she initially came down to do research with ICEERS on the long-term effects of ayahuasca. While there, she also taught art therapy and worked with Jungian archetypes, and eventually started facilitating retreats. I've had the chance to know Irene for a number of years and she's one of my favorite people in this work. She brings joy, passion, humor, and integrity to her work. And she has a lot of knowledge about this work through her own experience and also through having worked with many people. It was a pleasure for me to sit down and catch up with her and I think there is a lot to be gained by her sharing. To view bonus material and extended conversations, check out my Patreon page below. Enjoy!"Irene Pérez Méndez is a certified TRE facilitator, art therapist and anthropologist. TRE is a somatic technique that helps us to release tension patterns in the body and regulate the nervous system; it is indicated for those who suffer from anxiety and stress. In the last 10 years, Irene has guided more than a thousand people in the process of working with master plants, focusing on the intention setting, facilitation and integration of experiences. In this episode we discuss Carl Jung's theory of the self, which includes the conscious Persona, the unconscious Shadow and Anima/Animus, and the collective unconscious, rich with archetypes that we all have access to. Stories that we loved as children, which are often full of archetypal inferences, can give insight into how we connect with the world today. Jeff Cassel is a designer, guitarist, and all around creative wizard. We've known each other for around 15 years so in this episode we opened up with a bit on our history and walked through Jeff's childhood, specifically in how he was raised by two families in two ways of thinking, which shaped his perspective of dualism early on. From there we got into the topic of archetypes centered around Carl Jung's work— something that Jeff is fascinated by and studies constantly. After that we pivoted into talking about Jordan Peterson, who is a public figure that both Jeff and I were invested in years ago and have since deconstructed and reshaped the way we perceive him, along with others like him in "The Intellectual Dark Web." In closing we talked about how to think critically using nuance and third way tools to help avoid groupthink, cognitive dissonance, and hero worship. Enjoy! Over the past couple of months, we’ve been talking a lot about archetypes and how you can use them in writing and life, but we’ve failed to discuss where all this talk stems from. It’s all from Carl Jung who is an old, dead, psychology pioneer who didn’t agree with another old dead guy, Sigmund Freud. Jung was about the ‘collective unconsciousness.’ And he thought that in humanity’s collective unconsciousness there were basically twelve archetypes of character. It’s like if we are all part of a video game and the programmer only made twelve basic characters. According to “Exploring Your Mind,” Exploring Your MindTo define his 12 archetypes of personality, Jung studied the symbols and myths of many different cultures. These archetypes represent behavior patterns that make up different ways of being. They’re also cultural symbols and images that exist in the collective unconscious. He defined the 12 Jungian archetypes as an innate tendency to generate images with intense emotional meaning that express the relational primacy of human life. They’re imprints that are buried in our unconscious. These terms define the particular traits that we all have. So here’s the basic rundown of those twelve as related to poop found in the middle of the driveway because how else can you take a new spin on this? Every single psych major has blogged about archetypes. We’re going to do the first six in this podcast and the next six next week. Cool right? It’s like a cliffhanger. Let’s start. Get ready for poop talk. THE SAGE It’s all about being smart and thinking. If someone poops, the sage is going to want to examine the poop, analyze the poop, and probably create a witty yet analytical tweet about the poop. THE INNOCENT The innocent is optimistic that the poop randomly sitting in the middle of their driveway is meant for good. They will be happy that someone was capable of pooping out in the open like that. They will tweet about the goodness of pleasing others and possibly create a self-help book about poop or at least look for one which they will not download illegally but instead buy from a nice local independent bookstore. They might even put up a sign that says, “Feel free to come inside and use the bathroom next time, but no judgement.” For the rest of the text that goes with this podcast, check out Carrie's website. Lately, I have been sitting with the question: what can MEN do to help the world today? What do we need to do to insure that future generations thrive? How do we leave the world better than we found it? As a teacher who works with male archetypes, I have been dimly aware that there is one of the archetypes that today seems strangely dormant in the collective male psyche.......THE KING.

SHOW NOTES (www.mikejamesreid.com) Brandon Clift has achieved and experienced a lot in his 25 odd years. He was running a fitness business in Australia called Zone Fitness for almost ten years, being recognised as Young Entrepreneur of the Year for getting his gym to the #1 rank on the Gold Coast. Just six months ago, Brandon realised he wasn’t happy. He was out of alignment and he needed a change. He needed to find a purpose and mission that fulfilled him. So he embarked on a global adventure, and has since created an organisation called ‘The Path of the Warrior’ - an initiative that aims to create a world of men who are living their lives fully, with passion, integrity, and aligned with their purpose. In this episode, we talk about the Jungian archetypes and how to use them as a framework for understanding the decisions we make. We also talk about the dichotomy of head versus heart, and the one question Brandon asks himself when he is faced with a big life decision. Enjoy! Episode Highlights: Jungian Archetypes and how to use the male archetypes as a framework for understanding the deep psychological drivers of men How to prepare for getting into the right kind of relationship The dichotomies of health and the desire to want to let go while also finding balance with good health Staying ‘on mission’ and what that really means How to navigate the dichotomy of head versus heart and the one question that guides Brandon’s big life decisions The question Brandon asks himself to aid self-discipline Resources: King, Warrior, Magician, Lover: Rediscovering the Archetypes of the Mature Masculine by Robert Moore and Douglas Gillette The ManKind Project BrandonClift.com Brandon’s Instagram Brandon’s LinkedInBrandon’s Facebook Dent Global is launching in Toronto in 2019. In 1913, psychologist Carl Jung fell away from the world and lost himself within his own mind. For five years, he wandered his unconscious and struggled with a seemingly endless series of mental images. When he finally returned to the everyday world, he brought back with him the knowledge of these mental images . These mental images were the archetypes. In this episode, I explore and explain their story. Rather proclaim it, Westmorland, through my host, That he which hath no stomach to this fight, Let him depart; his passport shall be made, And crowns for convoy put into his purse; We would not die in that man's company That fears his fellowship to die with us. This day is call'd the feast of Crispian. He that outlives this day, and comes safe home, Will stand a tip-toe when this day is nam'd, And rouse him at the name of Crispian. He that shall live this day, and see old age, Will yearly on the vigil feast his neighbours, And say "To-morrow is Saint Crispian." In this episode, a chat with Nathan Lee Miller Foster aka Occult Fan about occult symbolism in the Twin Peaks Universe. If you’re a fan of filmmaking, you’re undoubtedly familiar with David Lynch and the surreal stories and soundscapes he’s contributed to the lexicon of popular culture. His work is filled with an education typically reserved for initiates and adepts of the various mystery schools found throughout our occulted history, and one of those works that speaks perhaps the greatest truth most of us have never known is found in a universe known simply as Twin Peaks. Comprised of the original thirty television episodes, a feature film called Fire Walk With Me, a novel published by the show’s co-creator Mark Frost called The Secret History of Twin Peaks, and the television reboot that premieres Sunday, May 21st on Showtime, the Twin Peaks Universe has done more to divulge the true nature of reality than perhaps any other piece of art ever has or will. On the surface, Twin Peaks is more of a story about conspiracy and corruption in a small town in Washington State than it ever was a story about who killed Laura Palmer. But unravel a thread here and unpeel a layer there and you’ll discover a world inhabited by duæling magicians, Jungian archetypes, mutable realities and extradimensional entities, with references to everything from the writings of Aleister Crowley, UFOs, secret societies and the secret space program to Lewis & Clark, alchemy, Native American mysticism and Jack Parsons’ Babalon Working. And while I’m not nearly famous enough to pull a guest like David Lynch or Mark Frost--and believe me, I tried--I did get the next best thing: an occult fanboy named Nathan Lee Miller Foster who has lent his ear and support to me as I venture down this podcasting path, and someone who’s shown me privately just how well he can dissect occult symbols and themes in showpieces such as this. And now it’s time for him to do the same thing for you publicly. Nathan Lee is full of extradimensional energies and eccentricities, and as any of our grandfathers would say, he’s quite the character. We’ve struck up a bit of a friendship, so this conversation may strike you as a bit more casual than most. Honestly, while I was in the midst of it I had no idea how it would play back, but after editing it I have to say that we turned a molehill into a magical mountain that David Lynch and Mark Frost would be proud of. This requires a bit of working knowledge of the Twin Peaks Universe, and those of you who have that will hopefully appreciate our efforts. And those of you who may not know the first thing about it, well, I hope what you’re about to hear piques your curiosity, pun definitely intended. Who Are You? Who Am I? Understanding Personality Types with Paul Morris? From as far back as 400 BC the ancient Greek philosophers have been codifying personality types. The Greeks used terms like Sanguine, Choleric, Melancholic, and Phlegmatic to describe what they called the four fundamental bodily humours or fluids, where an imbalance and dominance of one or the other would tend to create a different personality type. Other systems like Myers Briggs, based on Jungian archetypes exist as well and are most often encountered in corporate HR departments. I will be using a method illustrated by the diagram shown above with four personality types called Driver, Expressive, Amiable and Analytical. This analysis is most often taught in sales training courses for understanding the personality type of the prospect so as to facilitate communication between them and the sales representative. But even if you are not in sales, understanding these types that represent significant individuals in your life an those you may encounter, could simplify and amplify your ability to influence them. Or just tune in to satisfy your curiosity and just for the fun of it! ---------------------- Find Paul Morris @ www.depressivesanonymous.org. Listener call in number (347) 215-9456
