Welcome to episode #966 of Six Pixels of Separation - The ThinkersOne Podcast. Christine Rosen is a thinker whose work boldly interrogates the intersections of history, technology, and culture, and she's someone I've long admired for her incisive intellect. Christine's new book, The Extinction of Experience - Being Human In A Disembodied World, invites us to reflect on what we lose when technology mediates so much of our lives. In this conversation, we unpacked the book's provocative thesis: that the human experiences most fundamental to our identity - face-to-face connection, serendipity, patience, and risk - are at risk of atrophy in an increasingly virtual world. Christine, whose earlier works include Preaching Eugenics, My Fundamentalist Education, The Feminist Dilemma, and Acculturated, takes a nuanced, critical stance on technology. She acknowledges its benefits but urges caution about its unintended consequences. Together, we explore the blurred boundaries between virtual and real, the societal implications of a two-tier care system, and the surprising resurgence of physical community spaces like libraries and malls post-pandemic. Christine's historical perspective, informed by her background as a fellow at the American Enterprise Institute and her experience as a columnist for Commentary, lends depth to her argument that we must actively choose to reclaim experiences that ground us in the physical world. She shared insights on how tools like AI might aid healthcare but warned of the risks when they replace human judgment in areas like justice or personal relationships. Her reflections on community, loneliness, and the enduring importance of “third spaces” remind us that connection is essential to our humanity. If you've ever wondered how to balance the convenience of technology with the richness of lived experience, this conversation is a must-listen. Enjoy the conversation... Running time: 1:06:40. Welcome to episode #964 of Six Pixels of Separation - The ThinkersOne Podcast. Tamsen Webster is an expert of messaging and an architect of transformative communication. Over her 25-year career, Tamsen has helped leaders, from Harvard Medical School to Fidelity Investments, craft messages that don't just resonate - they stick, long after the words are spoken. Her latest book, Say What They Can't Unhear - The 9 Principles of Lasting Change (she is also the author of Find Your Red Thread), is a guide to creating messages so compelling, they can't be ignored. In our conversation, we explored her fresh take on persuasion, focusing on building understanding before asking for agreement - a concept so simple yet often overlooked. Tamsen revealed why storytelling still works (hint: our brains are wired for it) but also why it sometimes fails, especially when the story doesn't align with the audience's core beliefs. Her approach, rooted in science and steeped in empathy, pushes us to find common ground - not by oversimplifying the message, but by connecting with deeply held truths. Our dialogue covered everything from the evolution of storytelling to the resurgence of Socratic discourse in modern conversations, and even how polarization impacts how we communicate. But what struck me most was her ability to balance the rational with the emotional, showing that truly effective messaging requires both. Tamsen's insights go beyond the typical “problem-solution” framework, offering a model that encourages dialogue, understanding, and long-term engagement. If you've ever struggled to present a big idea or faced resistance when trying to spark change, this episode is a masterclass in how to say what others can't unhear. Enjoy the conversation... What is a common fear of leaders in humanitarian and international development when it comes to coaching their teams? The fear of losing respect. Losing respect because their team sees them as needing to have all the answers. So if they start asking their teams what they think, then the team will question their authority. I understand the reasoning behind this concern, especially in certain cultures where leadership is more directive. But how true is it? And is it really true we need to provide our teams with answers all the time? In this episode I share how this way of thinking can limit your growth as a leader - and how to use a more balanced approach which will motivate your team and take pressure off of yourself to need to know it all. In this conversation, Helen interviews Ruth Sze, an art therapist and marriage and family therapist, about her work with postpartum moms. Ruth shares her personal journey of becoming a mom and going back to school to pursue her passion for art therapy. Takeaways Art therapy can be a powerful tool for expressing subconscious needs and emotions. The postpartum period can be a time of joy, but also loneliness, grief, and guilt. Creating a safe space for moms to share their experiences and process their emotions is crucial. Mindfulness and self-compassion are important for healing intergenerational trauma and building resilience. Mom guilt can be a significant barrier to self-care and personal fulfillment. Now, as an advocate and educator, Mya is dedicated to opening hearts and minds. She stresses the importance of understanding rights and laws, and the support systems available in schools. Through MK Prevention Services, she has created a platform to educate and empower, reaching out to those who might be struggling in silence. In this episode of Ruby for All, host Andrew kicks things off with a warm welcome and well wishes to his absent co-host, Julie. Then he welcomes guest, Bhumi Shah, a self-taught web developer who transitioned from doing low-level embedded software for implantable medical devices. She shares her journey of learning Ruby on Rails, her love for teaching, and her approach to learning as well. Bhumi also talks about her ideas for creating accessible educational content, such as an audio-only technical content platform and a unique onboarding concept for junior developers joining a new company. As the conversation wraps up, Andrew expresses his admiration for Bhumi's insights, hoping that her story and ideas will motivate others to engage in content creation. Hit download now to hear more! [00:00:24] Bhumi details her self-taught journey into web development with Ruby on Rails and discusses her passion for teaching throughout her career and aims to pursue it more actively. [00:02:24] Bhumi shares her inspiration with teaching from Chris Oliver of GoRails and reflects on the importance of building a reputation and trust over time before monetizing content. She discusses her initial discomfort with identifying as a content creator and her journey towards embracing that aspect of her professional identity, and her current challenge with figuring out how to charge for her educational content. [00:04:13] Andrew comments on the coolness of being a content creator and his own struggle with this identity despite creating substantial content. He suggests Podia as a platform for hosting courses. [00:05:01] We hear what motivated Bhumi from Chris's story as she tells us the importance of focusing on the beginning of one's journey and the gradual process of building an audience and credibility. [00:06:31] Bhumi discuss the challenges and potential discouragement in charging for content. She feels that it's too early and she needs people to first know and trust her. [00:08:33] Andrew reflects on setting realistic goals for course creation and the difficulties of publishing content. Bhumi shares her sporadic content creation history and her resolve to maintain consistency going forward. [00:12:18] Andrew asks Bhumi about her research preferences and prompts Bhumi to discuss her learning approach where she shares her philosophy on learning technical skills by aiming to become “friends” rather than “acquaintances” with technologies, using CSS as an example. [00:13:26] She explains her strategy for tackling new topics like Turbo and Hotwire, focusing on practical application and “just-in-time learning” to solve immediate problems and “follow-on learning” to deepen her understanding later. She also mentions engaging in “intentional learning” or “deliberate learning” through reading programming books and taking courses. [00:15:21] Andrew shifts the conversation to teaching and asks Bhumi what she enjoys in teaching. She finds joy in seeing the moment of understanding in others and sharing her rewarding experience with mentorship on the Indie Hackers platform.[00:17:28] Andrew tells us he experiences joy when he sees other people experience joy which is why he mentors. He shares his own challenge of being naturally curious but not a deep learner, which affects his approach to teaching and sharing knowledge. [00:18:59] Bhumi asks Andrew about his perceived barriers to sharing content, prompting a discussion about perfectionism. Andrew describes his struggle with publishing content that meets his high standards. [00:23:36] Andrew asks Bhumi about her preferences for mediums, and she expresses her comfort with writing, particularly in her newsletter format, which excludes links to encourage focused reading. [00:29:52] Andrew reflects on the challenge of discussing code through audio and suggests a narrative approach to sharing technical content, focusing on problem-solving stories which can engage listeners. He references Darknet Diaries Podcast as an example of combining narrative storytelling with technical details, which helps listeners learn through context. [00:27:09] Bhumi proposes a podcast idea centered around debugging stories which Andrew expands on, and she shares another idea related to onboarding junior developers, suggesting that companies should hire a contractor as a full-time mentor to support new developers during their initial months. Andrew praises her idea![00:31:37] Andrew acknowledges the cost concern but emphasizes the long-term benefits of junior developers learning effective problem-solving. Being in nature is often thought of as a form of therapy itself. The serenity and calmness it imparts, and the tranquility one feels when surrounded by nature, is unparalleled. Dawn Gabriel sat down with the founder and CEO of Head First Health, Jenna Quinn Lancor, to discuss the spiritual side of hiking. Meeting Jenna Quinn Lancor With a notable presence in the field of therapy, Jenna Quinn Lancor chatted brilliantly about the connections between spirituality and nature. Through her virtual group practice, Head First Health, her team specializes in treating millennial women dealing with anxiety, OCD, depression, and life transitions incorporating the mind body spirit approach. A truly holistic approach to mental health! Conscious Collaboration Series at Head First Health Dawn was intrigued by Jenna's ‘conscious collaboration series', a monthly feature where they partner with a functional medicine doctor or holistic wellness practitioner to educate their staff about holistic health and well-being. It was heartening to see that Jenna's practice places such an emphasis on looking at a client holistically. Engaging the Spiritual Element In her conversation with Dawn, Jenna candidly shared the reason behind why she wanted to participate in the podcast - the lack of discussion around spirituality in therapist and business owner conversations. She passionately believes that the spiritual component of well-being is often overlooked and needs more attention. Experiences with Nature and Spirituality Jenna spoke about her life-changing hiking and backpacking experiences. Interestingly, the physical suffering from hiking morphed into a spiritual breakthrough for Jenna. She expressed how she genuinely connects with nature and the divine when she's on those trails. According to Jenna, once you experience that kind of spiritual awakening, it's challenging to forget it, and it leaves a lasting impact. In Tune with Spirituality – A Guide for Enthusiasts If you are keen on exploring your spiritual side through nature but do not know where to start, Jenna suggests starting with something simple available around you. She emphasizes the importance of slowing down and practicing mindfulness. Next time you cross a plant or a rose, just pause for a moment and try describing it in your head without using any names or labels. Notice the subtleties, the intricate patterns, and how every small detail contributes to the whole. This simple exercise is a great way to usher in mindfulness and create an environment conducive to spirituality. Conclusion Jenna's insightful conversation around spirituality, hiking, and therapy was genuinely enlightening. It drives home the point that sometimes answers to some profound questions lie in nature itself. It's all about taking a pause, observing, and understanding. By slowing down and letting go of the facades of daily life, it becomes easier to connect with the divine and the deeper truths within ourselves. So, go out, find your spot in nature, and enjoy a wonderful spiritual escape - And just like Jenna said, "You are going to keep crying until you don't feel like crying anymore." After all, it's not about having a breakdown, it's about having a breakthrough! “We deal with money in similar ways to how we deal with passion and how we deal with love. Money, power, and love - we tend to bring the same characteristic ways of dealing with each of those. When you think about your own money stories: substitute power, substitute, love, and see if you see those similarities.” Today our host Ed Coambs embarks on an enlightening journey with psychotherapist and financial therapist, Marilyn Wechter. With her rich experience working with clients on money issues, Marilyn provides invaluable insights into the intricate psychological relationship we have with money. Listen in as they explore how our character shapes our approach to money, power, and love and how understanding this can help in overcoming financial stress in relationships. This episode takes a deep look at how money, power, and love intersect with our identity. Ed and Marilyn address how societal values and cultural norms impact our perception of money, which can sometimes lead to feelings of shame despite being successful. Marilyn sheds light on how money is merely a tool and the importance of detaching our self-worth from our financial status. They then navigate the complexities of money dynamics and power imbalances within relationships, highlighting how mutual respect and understanding can be fostered. Wrapping up the episode, they delve into the concept of financial intimacy and the importance of reflecting on our own relationship with money. They discuss how acknowledging our past experiences with money can aid in forming a healthier relationship with it. All this and more in today's episode of Healthy Love and Money! In the pre-modern area whenever someone would get sick, people went to the priest and the illness was almost always considered as a kind of possession. Witches, having known the way of herbs and healing, psychic emotional healing was considered the work of the devil. Because of this, they were burned and punished. In the arc of human history, humans have been on earth for thousands of years and these burnings only took place a couple of hundred years ago and to this day, modern-day witches still carry the shame of being one. They are still living in the shadow of that time and the pain that came with it. However, Seraphine aims to clean and reclaim that. Witches carry valuable knowledge, and they are here to be of service to the Earth and humanity. They are wise people who know how to live, dance, breath, and create with the forces of nature as well as healers who know the way, how to listen, and read the signs of nature. Seraphina Capranos is a clinical herbalist, homeopath, initiated priestess with a practice spanning over two decades, as well as being deeply engaging as a teacher and speaker. She has a clinical practice on Salt Spring Island. Unique blend of gifts straddled the vast world of plant medicine, homeopathy, and ritual and ceremonial practice. She is a sought-after international teacher and the founder of The Center for Sacred Arts. Today on Sense of Soul, joining us from Brazil, author Cátia Machado dos Santos and her son Diogo Machado Mafra who joined us to share the amazing story of an encounter that Cátia experienced 46 years ago. On an island off Brazil, Cátia had an experience with a flying saucer. After that her whole life changed. This experience lead her to seek self realization and over years processed what seemed to be a download of information, secrets of the universe, how to access our cellular memory and clear negative entities (draconians, etc.) all which awakened her to a deep understanding of our purpose. With profound experiences and dreams she developed a method, with symbols she recieved a system that allows access to cellular memory in order to unlock traumas, cleanse viruses, balance the mind and the emotional body. This method clears and cleanses to the point where people can access and clear our Akashic records as well as our DNA. These symbols Cátia developed are the energetic translation of the Tachyons that permeate the universe inside and outside of us. Tachyons process information from the Akashic records and help us to read and understand our energetic blocks. The Universe is fractal, repetitive, what changes is the vibration and depending on the vibration, time and space also change. Her Work, as well as the transformed Runic symbols, are based on the Hermetic Laws of Ancient Egypt and Greece in the Kybalion. The method is simple and now accessible to anyone who wants to develop themself in her book RUNES: The Cryptology of the Soul https://www.fellowshipoftherunes.com/p/book.html Instagram: @catiamachadodossantos YouTube: Cátia Machado dos Santos Visit Sense of Soul at www.mysenseofsoul.com Do you want Ad Free episodes? "The idea that a person can't relate to something because it's not directly about them is a misunderstanding of who's been reading books this whole time." Since June is Pride Month and we're cos-playing in our favorite rainbows spandex, we decided to share our Modern Minorities chat with award winning comics creator Mariko Tamaki - who's work we've covered a LOT on Quarantined Comics - from Skim & This One Summer, to I Am Not Starfire, to Laura Dean Keeps Breaking Up With Me - Mariko's work is powerful and transcends identity. Mariko Tamaki's many (Surely) Books — Mariko Tamaki is an award-winning Canadian comics creator and writer — known for works like Skim and This One Summer (with her cousin Jillian Tamaki). Her latest novel is Cold, a haunting YA novel about four students who knew too much and said too little. AND Mariko's also the Co-founder & Editor of Surely Books - a comics imprint of LGBTQIA+ creators. Mariko's ALSO known for comics like Laura Dean Keeps Breaking Up With Me, Emiko Superstar, and several prose works of fiction and nonfiction. AND since 2016, Mariko's been writing for Marvel & DC comics - on powerful books like I Am Not Stafire, and Harley Quinn: Breaking Glass. Mariko's also only the second woman to write Detective Comics - the 1000+ issue flagship DC series about the Dark Knight. If you can't tell by now, one of us has been a BIG Mariko Tamaki fan for awhile, and after hearing her approach to writing and sharing personal stories, you soon will be too. Crabb and Sales have a nervous chuckle about an Adele interview bungle and discuss how to prepare for a celebrity encounter. They spend too long talking about Taylor Swift's red scarf, and Leigh stuns Annabel yet again by revealing she has never heard of a non-fungible token. A talk by Alok Pandey on the significance of 24th April, celebrated in the Sri Aurobindo Ashram as Darshan Day. Recorded in Pondicherry in 2017. The 24th of April occupies a special place in the Ashram History. It was the day when the Mother returned back to Pondicherry for good; the day of Her final arrival which marked a new phase of Her Work with Sri Aurobindo for Earth and man. Historically also the 24th April is the day when queen Hatshepsut (a previous incarnation of the Mother) had assumed powers in Egypt leading to revolutionary changes. It is also the day when the Greeks enter Troy leading to its downfall. Whether the Mother’s final coming is connected in any way with these events or not but it marked a definitive change in the rhythm and scope of the Ashram life. The Mother has noted that it ‘…was the tangible sign of the sure Victory over the adverse forces.’ This day is also one of the four Darshan days at the Ashram. Today we share some thoughts on some aspects of the Darshan day with the background of the Mother’s final arrival to Pondicherry.

Even if you're ranking really well organically, you still need to have paid ads. This is especially true on a mobile device where you will not even see the organic results 'above the fold'. There are 4 paid ads that show up before all the organic results show up.Can paid ads actually increase your census today? Yes!You can have Google ads showing in specific locations and after a few days the campaign will be optimized further. It gets smarter and smarter as time goes on. Call Extension Ads - these are Google Ads that go directly to your admissions' phone. This is the hottest lead possible. The person just looked you up online, clicked on your ad and is now calling your phone. You just gotta be sure that someone is really there to answer the phone. You can't afford to miss the call!If you get a contact form, call within 3 minutes because most likely this person filled out the form for other sites as well.
