JT's Mix Tape #94 goes straight into one of the strangest technological rabbit holes we've covered yet.Scientists are already combining living human neurons with computer hardware. Biological computers can learn, process information and potentially operate using a fraction of the energy required by traditional computing. So naturally we had to ask the question:Are we accidentally building The Matrix?JT, Brian and Aaron dig into biological computing, AI, advanced robotics, the explosion of data centers, underground infrastructure, virtual worlds, digital consciousness and where all of this could ultimately be heading. We also get into the strange practice of saint relics and veneration, AI companionship, morality in modern entertainment, Hollywood, and—as usual—a few completely unexpected detours. Some of the discussion in this episode is deliberately speculative. We're connecting dots, exploring possibilities and having the conversations you're probably not going to hear anywhere else.Welcome to JT's Mix Tape #94.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/jt-s-mix-tape--6579902/support.Please support our sponsor Modern Roots Life: https://modernrootslife.com/?bg_ref=rVWsBoOfcFPatreon: https://patreon.com/JT_Follows_JC?utm_medium=unknown&utm_source=join_link&utm_campaign=creatorshare_creator&utm_content=copyLinkJESUS SAID THERE WOULD BE HATERS: https://jtfollowsjc.com/product-category/mens-shirts/JT's Hats: https://jtfollowsjc.com/product-category/hats/Coaching Program: https://www.echoesoftruthnetwork.com/joinTelegram Group: https://t.me/jtsmixtapeNew Trucker Hat: https://www.shopmmca.com/shop/p/jt-follows-jc-hat

Theologian and historian Dr. Martin Erdmann explores the concept of Orwellian perpetual war in the modern era. Drawing on the works of George Orwell and historian Harry Elmer Barnes, Erdmann argues that contemporary conflicts like the war in Ukraine are often “phony wars” designed for domestic control rather than military victory. The discussion suggests that global elites use these manufactured tensions to consolidate power, build up technocratic defense industries, and forestall economic collapses through national debt. Erdmann interprets the rise of multipolarity and regional blocs—such as the European Union and Eurasian Union—as strategic steps toward a unified world federation. Ultimately, the conversation frames these geopolitical shifts within a biblical worldview, asserting that the global movement toward a single world government and currency aligns with prophetic history. DNA nanotechnology treats DNA not primarily as a carrier of genetic information, but as a programmable material. Based on the predictability of Watson–Crick base pairing, DNA nanotechnology allows researchers to encode specific structural information. DNA origami, in particular, is an interesting approach for reproducibly folding complex two- and three-dimensional DNA nano-objects. The potential of DNA origami structures shows their versatility, from biosensing and diagnostics to drug delivery, biomaterials, DNA data storage, and computing — even though the field is still at a comparatively early stage, with a number of interesting biotechs emerging. With DNA nanotechnology expert and science writer Marco Lolaico, we discuss the fascinating field of DNA nanotechnology, with structures from DNA smileys to DNA bunnies, to movable DNA machines. We ask Marco how big “huge” is through a nanotech lens, and whether we can expect a Nobel Prize for the technology. Mikel Anderson's father was a chiropractor, stress analyst, acupuncturist, and formulator who treated high-profile clients across Europe and the United States. As a child, Mikel traveled country to country, watching customized formulas built for each individual — athletes, political figures, business leaders. No two solutions were ever the same. That early exposure shaped his worldview: health isn't generic. It's personal. By his early teens, he was already helping friends in the lab. And he never stopped. Over the next five decades, Mikel would go on to create thousands of formulas and hold the largest portfolio of patents in the world on dosing apparatus systems — designing mechanisms that activate nutrients at the moment of use rather than destroying them during mass production His work didn't just serve consumer brands. When asked to help address malaria and diarrheal disease in remote African villages — where refrigeration and stable supply chains didn't exist — he engineered a "Pharma Blast" delivery system that kept lifesaving medications stable until injection, eliminating the need for cold storage. It was a logistical solution to a humanitarian problem. NanoXtreme was born from something even closer to home. When his teenage son qualified for a professional tennis tournament and suffered an injury days before competition, Mikel did what he had watched his father do his entire life: he built a formula for the person in front of him. That moment — not a market study — became the foundation of his current work in nano-delivery pain relief. In this episode, Mikel shares how growing up in his father's lab, watching custom formulations for elite clients, inspired his belief that health must be personal, not generic, and led to a lifetime developing thousands of targeted delivery systems — from "Pharma Blast" injections that kept medicines stable in remote African villages without refrigeration to NanoXtreme, a nano-delivery pain cream originally created overnight to help his injured son compete in a professional tennis event, alongside a broader conversation on supplements, gut health, nanotechnology, and the evolving legacy he is now passing to his own son. Quick Summary:The Space Show hosted science journalist Rahul Rao to discuss his new book on nanotechnology, focusing on applications in space and other fields. Rao explained that while humans have been using nanoscale materials for centuries, the field as we know it began developing after World War II, with significant breakthroughs in the 1980s and 1990s including the discovery of carbon nanotubes in 1991. The discussion covered both promising applications like medical nano surgery, spacecraft coatings, and environmental cleanup, as well as current challenges including material defects and scaling issues that limit practical implementation. While some applications like enhanced carbon fibers and aerospace coatings are already happening, more ambitious uses like space elevators remain in the future timeline, with widespread implementation likely in the 2030s rather than the near term. The conversation also addressed potential risks including environmental pollution from nanoparticles and weaponization concerns, though these were deemed less immediate than current technical challenges.SummaryRahul Rao, a science writer and journalist, discussed his focus on nanotechnology and space topics, highlighting the common use of nanomaterials in various scientific and engineering areas. He explained the historical development of nanotechnology, noting its origins in the post-World War II era and significant advancements in the 1980s and 1990s, including the discovery of carbon nanotubes in 1991. Rahul also addressed the current and potential future applications of nanotechnology, including the use of nanomaterials and the possibility of creating molecular-scale machines, though the boundaries of such advancements remain uncertain.David discussed his experience with the space elevator concept, noting its popularity in the early 2000s but questioning its current feasibility. Rahul explained that while carbon nanotubes and graphene are being developed at large scales, the materials remain too defective for a space elevator. The conversation highlighted the distinction between carbon nanotubes and carbon fiber, with Philip clarifying that they are different technologies.Phil explained the differences between carbon nanotubes and carbon fiber, noting that while carbon fiber is widely used in industries like aerospace and sports equipment, carbon nanotubes remain challenging to scale up effectively due to manufacturing limitations. Rahul discussed his interest in nanotechnology, highlighting its diverse applications beyond ambitious concepts like space elevators, including practical innovations like mRNA vaccines and CO2 storage using MOF nanomaterials. When asked about technology readiness levels, Rahul indicated that while the CO2 storage application is still in laboratory stages, similar substances are being tested in pilot projects. Marshall mentioned his interest in 2DPA-1, a two-dimensional polymer with properties similar to steel, though development in the past four years has been limited to improving manufacturing methods.Rahul discussed the timeline challenges with nanotechnology materials, comparing them to historical examples like aluminum, which took decades to develop into widely used materials. He explained current nanotechnology research areas, including nanoparticles for targeting disease pathogens and nanoscale tools for medical applications like cancer treatment. When asked about self-healing cables for space elevators, Rahul was not aware of any proven or published research on this specific technology, though he noted it was mentioned in discussions. David shared information about self-correcting undersea cables from the 1990s that could reroute signals around damage, though these are now losing economic value due to satellite technology like Starlink.Rahul discussed current and future applications of nanotechnology, highlighting medical applications as likely to receive significant attention in the coming years. He mentioned the development of enhanced carbon fibers with carbon nanotubes for use in aircraft and spacecraft coatings, as well as the potential for using carbon nanotubes in small electronics within the next decade. Rahul also explained that quantum dots, another form of nanotechnology, are being used in QLED televisions and discussed the challenges in producing defect-free carbon nanotubes. When asked about potential “nano nightmares,” Rahul identified environmental pollution and the risk of nanoparticles entering the human respiratory system as significant concerns.Rahul explained that incidental nanomaterials, which naturally exist, pose less immediate hazard than engineered nanomaterials that might escape into the environment. John Hunt raised concerns about potential misuse of nanotechnology for weaponry, though Rahul considered this a less pressing issue than environmental pollution. Marshall inquired about the relationship between nanoparticles and radiation, to which Rahul responded he was not aware of specific issues but acknowledged the potential intersection. Rahul outlined several applications of nanomaterials in space, including thermal insulation, heat shields, and nanoparticle-enhanced propulsion, suggesting these could emerge within the next 5-10 years.Rahul discussed the current state and future potential of nanomaterials, particularly carbon nanotubes and graphene. He explained that while nanomaterials are already being used in aerospace applications and will continue to grow in the next five years, broader applications like those in automotive industries or advanced tires are likely still decades away. Rahul noted that increased private sector interest and startup activity could drive progress, though he expected any impact to be gradual rather than revolutionary. The discussion also covered potential applications in space exploration, environmental engineering, and construction materials, with Rahul emphasizing that while theoretical possibilities exist, practical implementation timelines remain uncertain.Special thanks to our sponsors:American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Helix Space in Luxembourg, Celestis Memorial Spaceflights, Astrox Corporation, Dr. Haym Benaroya of Rutgers University, The Space Settlement Progress Blog by John Jossy, The Atlantis Project, and Artless EntertainmentNo Program for Friday, April 24, 2026 | Friday 24 Apr 2026 930AM PTGuests: Dr. David LivingstonNo Program todayNo program for Sunday, April 26, 2026 | Sunday 26 Apr 2026 1200PM PTGuests: Dr. David LivingstonNo program todayThe program resumes its regular schedule on Friday, May 1, 2026.Our Toll Free Line for Live Broadcasts: 1-866-687-7223 (Not in service at this time)For real time program participation, email Dr. Space at: drspace@thespaceshow.com for instructions and access. The Space Show is a non-profit 501C3 through its parent, One Giant Leap Foundation, Inc. Challenges with International Patients and Systems Difficulties treating patients from Australia and Canada Systemic obstacles to providing care across borders 3. COVID-19 Era Reflections and Medical Discourse Early preparedness with peptide therapies and supportive protocols -- At the pandemic's onset, certain clinicians organized protocols incorporating peptides (e.g., thymosin alpha-1), nicotine, methylene blue, and adjuncts like ivermectin and hydroxychloroquine to support immunity and nutrient delivery, leveraging prior peptide therapy experience. Belief that the pandemic response was misleading and coercive Censorship and platform restrictions -- Recounting bans and throttling on Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook, resorting to coded language (e.g., "cupcake") to avoid content moderation and experiencing extended live bans. 4. Social Media Enforcement and Pharmaceutical Influence Allegation of coordinated reporting by Eli Lilly -- Dr. Rimka says Instagram notified her that Eli Lilly reported her account, coinciding with actions against peers. She speculates that microdosing education threatened sales by reducing dosing volume. Selective enforcement and inconsistent standards -- Frustration is expressed over perceived preferential treatment of similar content by others and retroactive flagging of archived posts, reinforcing a sense of targeted suppression. 5. Regulatory Changes in Peptide Therapy Historical context and global research base Reclassification and access restrictions post-COVID -- Key peptides (e.g., TA1) became difficult to source after regulatory changes limiting compounding pharmacies. Clinicians turned to research-use-only and international sources, creating delays and uncertainty, which Rimka attributes to pharmaceutical efforts to limit widespread peptide use. Shift toward FDA approvals and evolving legal landscape 6. Pharma Influence and COVID-19 Coordination Claims Early warnings from contacts in China -- Dr. Rimka cites late-2019 warnings from contacts in Hong Kong/Shanghai who moved to Singapore and ceased WeChat communications, interpreted as signals of impending danger. Pharma's dominant role over government -- Assertions that pharma influences U.S. policy and suspect foul play in COVID-19's origins, drawing parallels to alleged bioweapon narratives involving Lyme disease and alpha-gal syndrome. 8. Intent Behind Global Response to COVID-19 Population control and compliance -- Mass vaccination and public health measures were designed to control and desensitize populations, testing compliance via mandates and social cues. Desensitization to tracking and bio-integrated technologies -- Warn of normalization of biometrics, implanted chips, and digital credentials, eroding autonomy and reshaping identity. 9. Vaccination Schedules, Immune Claims, and Endocrine Concerns Modern immunization schedules are excessive -- The interlocutors argue current infant vaccine schedules are unprecedentedly large compared to past generations. Rejection of autoimmune disease concept Vaccines and environmental endocrine disruptors -- Vaccine components and environmental chemicals (BPA, phthalates, microplastics) may influence sexuality and identity, citing animal studies and extrapolating to human exposures. 10. Nanotechnology, Frequencies, and Neurofeedback Potential for nano-chips/robots to alter physiology -- Dr. Rimka references public claims of nanotechnology capable of modulating cellular function and suggests undisclosed uses may exist, potentially via injections or environmental exposure. Brain manipulation and external frequency influences -- As a neurofeedback practitioner, Dr. Rimka describes modulating brain states via EEG-guided training and hypothesize that external infrastructures (e.g., 5G towers) could emit localized pulses affecting sleep, fatigue, and headaches. 11. Autism, Vaccine Injury, and Institutional Trust Correlation between vaccines and neurotoxicity -- The conversation frames vaccination as a high risk, referencing vaccine injury claims and the existence of a Vaccine Court, attributing neurotoxic effects to schedule components. CDC and FDA as misinformation sources 12. Personal Safety, Loss, and Public Pressure Denial of suicidality and acknowledgment of pressure -- Dr. Rimka confirms she is not suicidal, reflecting on past fears during heightened public controversy and the burden of advocacy when her child was young. Partner's death and suspected vaccine link Practitioner deaths and mentor loss -- A period of suspicious deaths among functional health practitioners, including her mentor, Dr. John Hicks, amplifying her sense of risk in the field. 13. Vaccine Lot Variability and Experimental Control Claims Variable vaccine lots and possible placebos -- Some vaccine lots may have been placebos, implying controlled experimentation and differential risk among recipients. 14. Peptides and Early Pandemic Protocols TA1, nicotine, methylene blue, ivermectin, and hydroxychloroquine -- Dr. Rimka details clinician-driven "stacking" strategies combining TA1 with nicotine and methylene blue, alongside ivermectin and hydroxychloroquine, to enhance immune support, nutrient delivery, and reduce dosages during shortages. Public awareness of peptides was limited at the time. 15. In this episode of the Crazy Wisdom podcast, host Stewart Alsop sits down with Markus Buehler, the McAfee Professor of Engineering at MIT, to explore how seemingly different systems—from proteins and music to knowledge structures and AI reasoning—share underlying patterns through hierarchy, self-organization, and scale-free networks. The conversation ranges from the limits of current AI interpolation versus true discovery (using the fire-to-fusion example), to the emergence of agent swarms and their non-linear effects, to practical questions about ontologies, knowledge graphs, and whether humans will remain necessary in the creative discovery process. Markus discusses his lab's work automating scientific discovery through AI agents that can generate hypotheses, run simulations, and even retrain themselves, while Stewart shares his own experiences building applications with AI coding agents and grapples with questions about intellectual property, material science constraints, and the future of human creativity in an AI-abundant world.Timestamps00:00 - Introduction to Marcus Buehler's work on knowledge graphs, structural grammar across proteins, music, and AI reasoning05:00 - Discussion of AI discovery versus interpolation, using fire and fusion as examples of fundamental versus incremental innovation10:00 - Language models as connective glue between agents, enabling communication despite imperfect outputs and canonical averaging15:00 - Embodiment and agency in AI systems, creating adversarial agents that challenge theories and expand world models20:00 - Emergent properties in materials and AI, comparing dislocations in metals to behaviors in agent swarms25:00 - Human role-playing and phase separation in society, parallels to composite materials and heterogeneity30:00 - Physical world challenges, atom-by-atom manufacturing at MIT.nano, limitations of lithography machines35:00 - Synthetic biology as alternative to nanotechnology, programming microorganisms for materials discovery40:00 - Intellectual property debates, commodification of AI models, control layers more valuable than model architecture45:00 - Automation of ontologies, agent self-testing, daughter's coding success at age 1150:00 - Graph theory for knowledge compression, neurosymbolic approaches combining symbolic and neural methods55:00 - Nonlinear acceleration in AI, emergence from accumulated innovations, restaurant owner embracing AI01:00:00 - Future generations possibly rejecting AI, democratization of knowledge, social media as real-time scientific discourseKey Insights1. Universal Patterns Across Disciplines: Seemingly different systems in nature—proteins, music, social networks, and knowledge itself—share fundamental structural patterns including hierarchy, self-organization, and scale-free networks. This commonality allows creative thinkers to draw insights across disciplines, applying principles from one domain to solve problems in another. As an engineer and materials scientist, Buehler has leveraged these isomorphisms to advance scientific understanding by mapping the "plumbing" of different systems onto each other, revealing hidden relationships that enable extrapolation beyond what's observable in any single domain.2. The Discovery Versus Interpolation Problem: Current AI systems, particularly large language models, excel at interpolation—recombining existing knowledge in new ways—but struggle with genuine discovery that requires fundamental rewiring of world models. Using the example of fire versus fusion, Buehler explains that an AI trained on combustion chemistry would propose bigger fires or new fuels, but couldn't conceive of fusion because that requires stepping back to more fundamental physics. True discovery demands the ability to recognize when existing theories have boundaries and to develop entirely new frameworks, something current AI architectures aren't designed to achieve due to their training objective of predicting the most likely outcome.3. The Role of Ontologies and Knowledge Graphs: While some AI researchers argue that ontologies are unnecessary because models form internal representations, Buehler advocates for explicit knowledge graphs as essential discovery tools. External ontologies provide sharp, analytical, symbolic representations that complement the fuzzy internal representations of neural networks. They enable verification of rare connections—like obscure papers that might hold key insights—which would be averaged away in standard AI training. This neurosymbolic approach combines the generalization capabilities of neural networks with the precision of formal knowledge structures, creating more powerful discovery systems.4. Emergent Properties and Agent Swarms: Just as materials science shows that collections of atoms exhibit properties impossible to predict from individual components, AI agent swarms demonstrate emergent behaviors beyond single models. When agents are incentivized not just to answer questions but to challenge each other adversarially, propose theories, and test hypotheses, they can spawn new copies of themselves and evolve understanding beyond their initial programming. This emergence isn't surprising from a materials science perspective—dislocations, grain boundaries, and other collective phenomena only appear at scale, fundamentally determining material behavior in ways unpredictable from studying just a few atoms.5. The Commoditization of Intelligence: The fundamental AI models themselves are becoming commodities, as evidenced by events like the Moldbug phenomenon where people built agents using various providers interchangeably. The real value is shifting from who has the smartest model to how models are orchestrated, integrated, and deployed. This parallels historical technology adoption patterns—just as we moved past debating who makes the best electricity to focusing on applications, AI is transitioning from a horse race over model capabilities to questions of infrastructure, energy, access speed, and agent coordination at the systems level.6. Human-AI Collaboration and Creative Control: Rather than wholesale replacement, AI enables humans to operate in an intensely creative space as orchestrators sampling from vast possibility spaces. Similar to how Buehler's 11-year-old daughter now builds sophisticated applications that would have required professional developers years ago, AI democratizes access to capabilities while humans retain the creative judgment about direction and meaning. The human role becomes curating emergence, finding rare connections, playing at the edges of knowledge, and exercising the kind of curiosity-driven exploration that AI systems lack without embodied stakes in their own survival and continuation.7. Technology as Evolutionary Inevitability: The development of AI represents not an unnatural threat but the next stage of human evolution—an extension of our innate drive to build models of ourselves and our world. From cave paintings to partial differential equations to artificial intelligence, humans continuously create increasingly sophisticated representations and tools. Attempting to stop this technological evolution is futile; instead, the focus should be on steering it ...

Dr. Sonia Contera is an Associate Professor of Biological Physics at the University of Oxford Physics Department, and a Research Fellow of Green Templeton College. She is also the author of the recently released book Nano comes to Life. Sonia is a physicist who is interested in biology and the mechanics of biology across different space and time scales. She develops experiments and techniques to understand the physics that allow biological systems to build nano-scale molecules into cells, organs, tissues, and organisms. Projects in Sonia's lab include studying and treating pancreatic tumors, understanding heart arrhythmias, and investigating the physics of plant growth. When she's not doing science, Sonia likes to relax and do nothing. She also enjoys spending time with people she loves, talking to people, cycling, walking, exploring art, and learning new languages. Sonia received her bachelor's degree in physics from the Autonomous University of Madrid. She attended graduate school at Beijing Languages and Culture University and subsequently worked as a researcher at the Czech Academy of Sciences. Sonia was then awarded a Japanese Government Monbushō scholarship to attend Osaka University where she received her PhD in Applied Physics. Next, Sonia was awarded an E.U. Fellowship to Japan at the Institute of Scientific and Industrial Research SANKEN at Osaka University. Prior to coming to Oxford in 2003, she served as a Research Assistant Professor at the Interdisciplinary Nanoscience Centre at the University of Aarhus in Denmark. In 2008, Sonia founded the Oxford Martin Institute of Nanoscience for Medicine at the Oxford Martin School. In our interview, Sonia shares more about her life and science.

Plant Growth Regulators (PGRs) with Gunther Kreps of AgXplore. As farmers look for new ways to protect yield and stretch every input dollar, PGRs are rising to the top of the conversation — but what exactly are they, and how do they work?Gunther kicks things off with a clear breakdown of the science behind PGRs — from naturally occurring hormones like auxins and gibberellins to advanced synthetic formulations used in modern ag. We explore how PGRs stimulate or suppress specific plant responses, helping crops manage stress, increase tillering, strengthen stalks, improve root mass, and ultimately perform better under pressure. The conversation gets practical as Gunther shares when and how to apply PGRs, which crops respond best, and how to maximize synergy by tank-mixing with fungicides, foliar feeds, or herbicides. He also addresses timing, weather influence, and why not all PGRs are created equal — pointing out the key signs of a high-quality product versus one that might just be snake oil.We then dive into the evolving PGR landscape, including advancements in targeted formulations, compatibility with precision ag, and what's on the horizon — like AI-powered prescriptions and biostimulant hybrids. Melvyn Bragg and guests discuss the decisive role of one of the great 20th Century physicists in solving the question of nuclear fission. It is said that Meitner (1878-1968) made this breakthrough over Christmas 1938 while she was sitting on a log in Sweden during a snowy walk with her nephew Otto Frisch (1904-79). Both were Jewish-Austrian refugees who had only recently escaped from Nazi Germany. Others had already broken uranium into the smaller atom barium, but could not explain what they found; was the larger atom bursting, or the smaller atom being chipped off or was something else happening? They turned to Meitner. She, with Frisch, deduced the nucleus really was splitting like a drop of water into a dumbbell shape, with the electrical charges at each end forcing the divide, something previously thought impossible, and they named this ‘fission'. This was a crucial breakthrough for which Meitner was eventually widely recognised if not at first.WithJess Wade A Royal Society University Research Fellow and Lecturer in Functional Materials at Imperial College, LondonFrank Close Professor Emeritus of Theoretical Physics and Fellow Emeritus at Exeter College, University of OxfordAnd Steven Bramwell Director of the London Centre for Nanotechnology and Professor of Physics at University College LondonProducer: Simon TillotsonReading list:Frank Close, Destroyer of Worlds: The Deep History of the Nuclear Age, 1895-1965 (Allen Lane, 2025)Ruth Lewin Sime, Lise Meitner: A Life in Physics (University of California Press, 1996)Marissa Moss, The Woman Who Split the Atom: The Life of Lise Meitner (Abrams Books, 2022)Patricia Rife, Lise Meitner and the Dawn of the Nuclear Age (Birkhauser Verlag, 1999) In Our Time is a BBC Studios Audio Production
