David Whyte is a poet philosopher, and is the author of twelve books of poetry and five books of prose, including his latest, Consolations II, the Solace, Nourishment and Underlying Meaning of Everyday Words, which further explores what David calls “the conversational nature of reality.” His 2017 TED talk has had over 1.2 million views where with his signature charm and searching insight, he meditates on the frontiers of the past, present and future, sharing two poems inspired by his niece's hike along El Camino de Santiago de Compostela in Spain.  David Whyte's sessions have been woven in to long term executive leadership programs with organisations such as Mattel, Standard Chartered Bank, The Gap, Boeing, AstraZenica, and Novartis, and he is an Associate at the Said Business School.  He draws from hundreds of memorised poems of his own, and other beloved poets and he speaks to his body of work he has developed working with organisations for over 25 years, around Conversational Leadership, speaking to audiences all of the globe with his inimitable gifts. He has also hosted a live online series, Three Sundays, every other month since 2020. David holds a degree in marine zoology and has traveled extensively, including living and working as a naturalist guide in the Galapagos Islands and leading anthropological and natural-history expeditions in the Andes, Amazon, and Himalayas. He is the recipient of two honorary degrees: from Neumann University in Pennsylvania and Royal Roads University in Victoria, British Columbia. David grew up with a strong, imaginative influence from his Irish mother among the hills and valleys of his father's Yorkshire and now makes his home in the Pacific Northwest of the United States.  It was truly an honour to have this conversation with David, coming to us all the way from Costa Rica, as he prepares to visit Australia again. As we commenced the year with tragedy again dominating our screens, and the sense that the ground we're upon just got that little bit shakier, David's wisdom is like a balm. Many people who have had the fortune to be in the same room as David would implore you to take that opportunity if it ever arose – and so do we. His masterful storytelling, poetry and philosophy truly transforms. What up, Beasts? Welcome back to the show. Today I am hanging out with Jonna Rachele Garvin. Jonna is an ordained Baptist minister and a board-certified chaplain with The Association of Professional Chaplains.  She has experience as a healthcare chaplain, serving in both hospital and hospice settings, a therapist, and a pastoral counselor.   She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Physiology from Michigan State University, her Master of Science in Patient Counseling from Virginia Commonwealth University, her Master of Divinity from Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond, and her PhD in Neumann University's Pastoral Counseling program.  Jonna's interests include spirituality, supporting individuals through bereavement, and finding meaningful ways to enhance personal and professional resilience through identifying inner resources and wisdom.   In this episode, I had the privilege of sitting down with Jonna to hear her deeply personal journey into chaplaincy. She shared how the loss of her aunt inspired her path and her passion for helping others navigate life's toughest moments. We talked about the importance of trusting yourself and embracing growth at every stage of life. Together, we explored how generational perspectives shape our views on age, life transitions, and self-discovery. Jonna's insights about anchor people and practices were so meaningful, reminding me how vital it is to have those grounding forces during life's big shifts. We also dove into the ever-present challenge of balancing work and personal life, especially in this always-connected world. Jonna and I reflected on the pressures of "hustle culture" and why prioritizing rest, creativity, and self-care is crucial. We laughed about the different ways we approach transitions in our twenties versus our forties—how we lean on external support when we're younger and rely more on our inner wisdom as we grow. To wrap up, Jonna read Rumi's The Guest House, a beautiful reminder to welcome every experience, even the hard ones, as part of our growth. It left me feeling inspired and reflective—I think it will do the same for you. As always, I hope something lands with you today. I hope something you hear tugs on your heart-strings and/or I hope you laugh. Join me on the Fast Track to Grant Writer: www.teresahuff.com/vip   Tackling Important Issues with Excellence Today I'm excited to introduce you to my good friend and brilliant colleague, Dr. Dan Young. He has years of experience in entrepreneurship, marketing, and nonprofit leadership. He drops so many nuggets of wisdom in this episode! I know you'll find it inspiring.  Dr. Dan and I chat about: Integrating giving into our everyday life and setting an example for others. Creating an attitude of giving that transitions from generation to generation. The disconnect between technology and human connection, and how we can bridge the gap.  How to tap into the human spirit to ignite passion for important causes and needs. The importance of thinking bigger long term.   Solving Nonprofit Problems with Proper Support As Dr. Dan says, “It's about leadership. It's about entrepreneurial principles. It's about networking, it's about technology. Let's take a look at what we're doing in all these areas. And just because we got a 25% increase in funding or donations, that's not the point. The point is, the problem is still here. So let's focus on that. And if we do that, everything else gets a little bit more efficient and more effective.” When it comes to nonprofit leaders, Dr. Dan emphasizes, “That type of person should have the most comprehensive leadership training in the world. Because it's unbelievably difficult. And the stakes are unbelievably high. So that's a part of the work that we do, is to put those people in the best possible position for the world's most important job.”   Challenge Question: How will you start to adopt 4-generation thinking rather than 4-quarter thinking?   Meet Dr. Dan Young Dr. Dan Young is the Founding Director of the Wharton-AltFinance Institute at the Wharton School and is the curator of TEDxWilmington, which is in the top 1% of all TEDx franchises in the country with over 550 speakers and 42 million views on YouTube. Dan received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Marketing from the University of Delaware's Honors Program and his Ph.D. in Marketing from Temple University. He has done entrepreneurship and executive leadership programs with the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Oxford. He has been an instructor at GBC, Temple University, West Chester University of Pennsylvania, the University of Delaware, Neumann University and Wilmington University. Dan has served on the Boards of many nonprofit organizations and currently serves as the President of Theatre N at Nemours, President of the Board of Safe Haven Healing, Membership Chairman of the Board of Governors for the University and Whist Club, and an advisory Board Member for the Fresh Start program. The Best of The Rich Zeoli Show 2022: John Paul Mac Isaac—Author of “American Injustice: My Battle to Expose the Truth”—joins The Rich Zeoli to discuss his new book which documents his experience being caught-up in the Hunter Biden laptop scandal. In 2019, Hunter Biden commissioned John Paul's Wilmington, Delaware electronic repair shop to fix his liquid-damaged laptops. John Paul explains, “[c]oncerned that I was sitting on evidence in a criminal investigation, I set out to hand everything over to the FBI" after Biden never returned to collect his property. He continues, “[w]hen the story broke, Big Tech and social and mainstream media blocked the reporting” and “[m]y actions were labeled Russian disinformation.” Despite doing the right thing every step of the way, John Paul unfairly had his character attacked—ultimately, resulting in the forced closure of his business, The Mac Shop. During the interview, John Paul also reacts to Elon Musk's recent releasing of emails confirming that Twitter suppressed the Hunter Biden laptop story at the behest of the Biden campaign team—vindicating John Paul once and for all. His incredible book is available at: https://www.simonandschuster.com/books/American-Injustice/John-Paul-Mac-Isaac/978163758684 New York City is hiring a "Director of Rodent Mitigation" to help address the city's growing rat population. The position reportedly pays $170,000 annually. A woman is suing Kraft Heinz Foods Company for deceptive advertising—claiming Velveeta macaroni and cheese takes longer to make than the three and a half minutes advertised on the products packaging. The lawsuit is for $5 million According to a report from CNBC, just prior to widespread anti-government protests Apple limited its iPhone's AirDrop function in China—restricting the communication methods of protestors taking a stand against totalitarian COVID-19 lockdown procedures that have resulted in numerous deaths. CNBC writes that AirDrop, “relies on wireless connections between phones, rather than internet connectivity, placing it beyond the scope of [China's] internet content moderators.” In recently unearthed audio, Apple CEO Tim Cook praised China's government—particularly their environmental policies. Though, it is worth noting, China is currently the world's largest emitter of carbon, accounting for over 30% of global emissions. Meanwhile, according to Elon Musk, Apple has threatened to remove Twitter from its App Store. If Apple continues to support suppressive governments and acts hostile towards free speech, will consumers abandon the company? Twitter CEO Elon Musk has vowed to create his own smartphone if Apple removes the social media platform from its App Store.  Assistant Producer Daniel reveals that Neumann University recently decided to remove Charlie and the Chocolate Factory from its school's library. Over the past six years in particular, we have learned that FBI officials routinely deceive not only the public but also the institutions designed to protect the public from FBI overreach. Agents lie to supervisors. Supervisors lie to judges. FBI directors mislead Congress. And almost no one is ever punished.” Read more at: https://www.commentary.org/articles/eli-lake/fbi-needs-new-reforms/ Henry attempts to select a film for today's Movie Mystery Clip, but Rich and Matt have never heard of his choice, “My Left Foot"—it's likely no one else on the planet has heard of it either! Rosie Kays joined the Fighting Tiger coaching staff before the start of the 2017 soccer season. In her first three years as the women's soccer head coach, Kays has concentrated on building a solid foundation to ensure long term success through excellent recruiting classes that aren't just talented on the soccer field, but also in the classroom. Besides being the women's soccer head coach, Coach Kays has worn multiple hats around the athletic department. For a short time, she served as the Director of Campus Recreation and had a major hand in jump starting the campuses intramural leagues. Now, one of the hats she wears within the athletic department is the Student-Athlete Affairs Administrator. As an administrator, she oversees all the members of our Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), ensuring that student-athletes have a voice on important topics and that their voices are heard. She is also Cobleskill's Summer Camp Coordinator for all Fighting Tiger camps. On the soccer field, Coach Kays has experienced one of the best turnarounds in the country. After going 0-17 during the 2017 season, she brought in her first recruiting class and saw an instant change. The next season they improved their win total by six games and went 6-11 on the year. On top of having one of the best turnarounds at the Division III level, she also had three players named to the Third Team All-Conference team. Kays came to Cobleskill in 2017 after spending two seasons as an assistant coach at her alma mater Neumann University. In 2016, she helped the Knights post a 9-9-1 overall record including a 6-4-1 mark in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play, a significant improvement over the 2015 campaign that saw the team finish 3-13-1 with a 3-8 conference record. During her coaching career, Kays has also served as Big East Conference member Villanova University's Director of Soccer Operations during 2016. Before pursuing a coaching career, Kays earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Sport & Entertainment Management from Neumann University. While she was there, she was a four-year member of the women's soccer team and a four-time selection to the CSAC All-Academic Team during her playing career. She later earned her Master of Science Degree in Sport Business from Temple University while serving as Neumann's volunteer assistant coach. She was later promoted and named the first assistant for her excellent work. Kays also has her United States Soccer Federation (USSF) Class D, E and F coaching licenses. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/athleteevolved/support

Thanks for joining us for Brewing Faith, where we bring the hard questions to the table as we talk about the future of our Church. In this episode we will be sharing stories and conversation about sports and spirituality. I will be sitting down with Xavier, a sophomore communications major at Neumann University, and Sr. Alice Klein, whose incredible story you will hear in just a moment. Sr. Alice was on her way to fame and fortune; however, after only two years of playing ball semi-professionally for Mr. Martin, of Lockheed Martin, she left it all. Alice now resides at Assisi House, the retirement convent of the Sisters of St. Francis. As you see, Alice left it all to enter the convent. So, grab your coffee or tea, whatever you like to brew, enjoy this episode.

Imagine a school community in which EVERY interaction is supportive and positive! At the end of each interaction, both sides walk away feeling cared for and respected, and with a clear understanding of the next step. We know a way that you can get there. Here's what we are doing in Upper Darby SD to create this. We have been collaborating with the Center for Supportive Relationships since 2014 to provide relational skills coaching to our classroom teachers.  During a 20 minute real-time session, a Center coach uses a tablet to provide praise, compliments and suggestions to the teacher via a smart watch. The feedback is based only on relational skills. The goal is to support teachers as they build stronger relationships with their students. The Center coaches model strong relational skills with the teachers and then give suggestions on how teachers can model those behaviors with the students.  Currently, the Center is training internal UDSD staff to become expert coaches in order to sustain the initiative after the end of the 2018-2019 school year. Also, the Center and Neumann University have collaborated to incorporate a relational skills component into Neumann's first-year teacher preparation program. UDSD staff have served as guest lecturers in these sessions. Feedback from UDSD teachers in the fall 2016 coaching cohort: 78% reported that they would recommend the coaching program to a colleague 73% reported that the coaching helped them strengthen relationships with students 65% reported that the coaching helped make their work more satisfying A Word From Our Fake Sponsors: 1979 Twix Candy Bar Article Review on Gratitude and Paying It Forward Woman Raises Over $300K for Homeless Man Who Helped Her by Sara Boboltz, @sara_bee.

GO STAND UPON THE ROCK (2014) is a deeply moving Civil War-era novel based on stories handed down by Sam Lemon's grandmother about the lives of her grandparents who were once runaway slaves from Virginia. It is a tale of unsettling plantation life, courageous women, dramatic Civil War battles, heroes, hoodoo, and the indomitable strength of the human spirit. The book is supported by historical and genealogical research, photographs, and documents from his doctoral dissertation. This is a compelling and emotionally engaging history that comes alive through the lives of real people and events.  Dr. Sam Lemon grew up in Media, Pennsylvania, where his maternal great-great grandparents arrived as runaway slaves during the Civil War. Given refuge and support by local Quakers, his ancestors prospered and became prominent members of the community. He is currently an assistant professor and the director of a graduate program at Neumann University in Pennsylvania, and formerly worked in the fields of social services, education, and public television at WHYY in Philadelphia.
