On Tuesday's Mark Levin Show, the Iranian regime is gearing up for a prolonged showdown with President Trump by keeping their economy functioning just enough to withstand a drawn-out U.S. military campaign. As Gen. Jack Keane says, they think they have the upper hand in the Strait of Hormuz and will become more violent as the midterm elections approach. Keane says using economic levers is good but must also play the military card. But is allowing the regime to stall for time the right play? Why not arm the Iranian people and take out Iran's infrastructure, starting with Kharg Island? This is also playing into the hands of the woke-reich neo-fascist isolationists. By calling for American withdrawal now, they give aid and comfort to the enemy. And letting Iran think they have control over the Strait sends the wrong message to countries like China. What will the U.S. if the Chinese block the South China Sea? Also, why are younger people so drawn to socialism? We've abandoned the great thinkers of the not-so-distant past who explained capitalism and individual freedom: Buckley, Friedman, Sowell. Online influencers are pushing a sort of conservatism-lite, where they call for government intervention and a nationalist, populist form of common-good conservatism. It's actually socialism lite, but younger people don't know that. This is like the old Russian psyop: convince the young to ignore, even condemn, older generations. The young are told they know more than older people, they don't understand what you're doing through. Unfortunately, right now it's working. These pseudo-conservative isolationists sound a lot like Bernie Sanders, Chris Murphy, even Mamdani. Unfortunately, in this day and age, people want to be heard more than they want to learn. Then, Democratic Socialist leader Frances Gill was pressed on the consequences of getting rid of police and prisons. What would happen to rapists, she was asked. Instead of answering the question, Gill said she didn't want to talk "hypotheticals." Well, if a woman is raped, that's not hypothetical: that's real life. What Gill can't say out loud is the real reason DSAs want to eliminate police and prisons: so they can impose their own security services, loyal to their regime. Civil liberties were suspended during COVID in the name of the common good. If DSAs continue to get elected, we know what to expect. Finally, the clown show that is New York: a judge has blocked Mamdani's pied-a'-terre tax after NYC homeowners sued. Here's a guy who's never run a hot dog stand who thinks taxing rich people who provide jobs is a good idea. President Trump ripped Mamdani and NY Governor Kathy Hochul, calling this "amateur hour" and dangerous "experiment" that will destroy what was once a great City and State. Thomas Sowell is one of the thinkers I have recommended for years, particularly for his criticism of simplistic explanations for racial disparities. But I think one of the central arguments in Black Rednecks and White Liberals does not hold up as well as many conservatives assume.In this reaction, I respond to Hunter Matz's discussion of Sowell's thesis on the Joe Rogan Experience and examine the argument that Southern “redneck” culture was largely responsible for the cultural problems of black Americans.I look at the West Indies comparison, the distinction between Appalachian and Southern plantation culture, the influence of the planter class, the history of slavery and Reconstruction, Northern education, Booker T. Washington, the Great Society, and the cultural changes that followed.My argument is not that culture does not matter. Quite the opposite. Culture matters enormously. But history is complicated, and I do not think we can explain modern black American problems by simply pointing to Southern rednecks.As I say toward the end of the video, I have not argued that anything is in anyone's DNA or blamed one group of white people for everything. On Monday's Mark Levin Show, political correctness is running amok in the WNBA. There are two issues facing the WNBA: transgender athletes and racism. A small fraction of athletes - transgenders - are threatening to destroy opportunities for biological women and girls. This is not a civil rights issue. Women have fought for 50 years for equality in sports. That doesn't mean men and women are the same. It means women and girls have the opportunity to flourish in athletics. It's time to make a decision: will a relatively handful of individuals destroy the purpose of a women's sports league? Or will the overwhelmingly biological female athletes compete on a level playing field. The WNBA is a business and the hierarchy and players should treat it as such. The only color that should matter is the color of money: green. Whether it's the men's NBA or the WNBA, people want to see the best athletes, regardless of color. Then, President Trump called out the democratic socialist and jihadist candidates for their radicalism and craziness. They want to eliminate the Senate, Supreme Court, police, military, etc. No other president would talk this way. Also, AOC says she has frozen her eggs. Why the need to announce it? Some things you keep private. She also talked about Francesca Hong, a far-left DSA running for governor of Wisconsin. AOC hedged her bet, saying all politics are local, woke one was crazy she says, and we have to assess what a candidate is saying now. AOC and other leading Democrats aren't endorsing Hong because they think she won't win and want to keep losses to a minimum. As far as Abdul El-Sayed, she's excited, saying it's a time of renewal for the Democratic party. Then, Bernie Sanders knows Hong can't win in Wisconsin. He was asked why he doesn't endorse her if her positions line up with his and he fell back on the old, tired trope: tax the rich.  El-Sayed says he differs with Bernie on capitalism, saying we live under "corporatism." El-Sayed is a jihadist, an Islamist, and a bald-faced liar. Finally, in defense of AIPAC: El-Sayed complained they plan to spend $3.8 million against him next week. The Dems are making AIPAC - and Israel - the defining issues of the midterm elections. El-Sayed says the money the U.S. sends to Israel should be spent here on healthcare, etc. Facts: the U.S. spent $7 Trillion last year. Israel received $3.8 billion...in other words, five one-hundredths of 1% of total federal spending. In return, the U.S. gets an indispensable ally. This week Kristin and I sit down with Matthew Zachary and Jen Singer, two cancer survivors who between them have basically seen every corner of the American healthcare system and lived to write a book about it. Matt founded Stupid Cancer, the organization that essentially created the young adult cancer advocacy space out of nothing back in 2007, and I can personally attest to how much that work has meant to people like me. Jen's journey started with her own aggressive lymphoma diagnosis and years of side effects that followed her long after she was declared "cancer-free." Together they wrote We The Patients: Understanding, Navigating, and Surviving America's Healthcare Nightmare, and we get into all of it: the history of how we got here, why claim denials are basically a business model, and why so few people ever bother to appeal. What I loved about this conversation is that it's somehow both infuriating and genuinely funny, which is exactly what Matt and Jen were going for with the book. We talk about the idea of patients organizing as a political voting bloc the way the NRA does, why transparency (or the total lack of it) is doing so much damage, and why blaming doctors is often just a distraction from the real problem upstream. We also cover some lighter stuff, how Matt and Jen actually met, whether writing a book together nearly ended their friendship, and yes, I finally got to answer where the name Jimothy came from.  Takeaways: Matt Zachary founded Stupid Cancer in 2007, effectively creating the young adult cancer advocacy space that didn't exist before him. Only about 2% of insurance claim denials are ever appealed, even though roughly 80% of appeals eventually get overturned. Jen Singer's aggressive lymphoma went undiagnosed for eight months because her symptoms were dismissed as normal fatigue from being a busy mom. Matt and Jen argue that healthcare denial and delay isn't a system failure, it's the business model working exactly as designed. Greg Rauch spent twenty years practicing law in Moscow, Idaho, and nothing in that career resembles what Bryan Kohberger just handed him. Rauch's firm bio covers Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcy, landlord-tenant fights, DUI defense, divorce, child custody, wills, probate, and real estate. It credits him with more than twenty trials. It shows no murder case, no capital case, and no petition remotely like the handwritten one Kohberger filed on July 27, 2026 to undo his guilty plea in the Idaho student murders. The state appointed Rauch on August 3 because the public defender's office had a conflict — Kohberger is accusing his own former lawyers of coercing a false confession and burying evidence, claims no judge has ruled on yet. Hours into the job, Rauch admitted to a reporter that he hadn't read the file and had never spoken to the man he represents. The contrast with what came before is the whole story. Anne Taylor's team carried this case for two and a half years, brought in a genetics-trained DNA specialist from San Francisco, and negotiated the deal that kept Kohberger off death row after prosecutors said his DNA was on the knife sheath. The case cost Idaho taxpayers a reported eight million dollars. Kohberger's petition calls that representation a betrayal, and his reward is a solo general practitioner working three hundred miles from the prison where he sits. If the gamble works, the plea dies and the death penalty returns, exactly the outcome the Goncalves family says it wants. MULTIPLE OIL SPILLS CONTINUE TO SPREAD AROUND PERSIAN GULF AND ARABIAN SEA.// -----BEGIN TEARLINE------International Events-Middle East: Overnight the targeting of merchant shipping continued, with both Iranian and American strikes on commercial vessels. Iran struck an oil tanker sometime over the past 24 hours, which resulted in an oil spill which washed up on the shores of Qeshm island this morning. In the Gulf of Oman, the United States struck a different merchant vessel for violating the American blockade.Analyst Comment: Similarly, a separate oil spill has continued to expand in Omani waters, after unclear circumstances (i.e. some sort of attack) led to an explosion onboard the M/T CAROLINE BEZENGI two months ago. Since that time, this vessel has been adrift until she ran aground in an Omani nature preserve. This morning Oman announced that the subsequent oil spill now covers roughly 150 square miles.Red Sea/HOA: The Houthis struck another vessel in the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait last night.Analyst Comment: Locals claim this vessel was the M/V TIHAMAH a smaller regional containership that the Houthis had suspected of carrying out weapons shipments from Saudi Arabia, to the Saudi-backed Yemeni government. If this is true, this would not be surprising, but every ship that gets struck in this Strait increases apprehension among commercial shipping companies.-----END TEARLINE-----Analyst Comments: Overnight, more details were released regarding the security incident affecting Air Force One during President Trump's visit to Turkey last month. At the time, a brief scandal emerged after President Trump switched from the newer Air Force One to the older airframe, due to an unidentified security incident of some kind. More specifically, the threat involved the newer Air Force One airframe allegedly not having sufficient missile defense systems, due to having been pressed into service too quickly for the appropriate countermeasures to be installed.However yesterday, more of the truth came out. President Trump actually pulled a double-switch. Instead of boarding the older legacy Air Force One, the Secret Service used a catering van to covertly move the President to an Air Force C-32A (one of the administrative backups that frequently accompanies AF1). From there, both aircraft flew to the United Kingdom (with President Trump's actual aircraft flying completely blacked out and not emitting any radio signals), where the President transitioned back to the newer Air Force 1 airframe for the trip back to the United States.Many people who are not familiar with the world of counterterrorism may think this is a super cool, James Bond-like operation that fooled those pesky journalists. However, this incident proves that a clear and present danger to the President existed, and was significant enough to warrant extreme measures. At the time, the White House claimed that the switch to a different plane was conducted out of an abundance of caution. Now, we find out that he was actually secretly switched to a third plane, and smuggled into that plane in a catering van. From the perspective of executive security, placing the principle in unorthodox situations like this to ensure security is a last-ditch method...a tactic that is utilized when the danger isreal enough to outweigh any inconvenience to the protectee. The Secret Service resorting to cramming the President in the back of a catering van is a tactic that has been used in the past, but only under extreme circumstances. Bill Clinton allegedly used this trick top avoid the press during the Monica Lewinsky scandal, and Joe Biden was also suspected of having used this tactic when he had trouble climbing the AF1 staircase a few years ago. As it stands, President Trump's use of this technique is one of the first public uses for security reasons. Perhaps the most entertaining aspect to the story is that President Trump left the media on the plane that was threatened with being shot down. Most of these journalists, even in retrospect, don't seem to realize that they were they were bait.More broadly, this incident is yet another peek behind the curtain regarding the shocking levels of security that President Trump is now surrounded by. A few days ago President Trump was spotted playing golf mere feet away from an Avenger Surface-to-Air Missile defense system, which had been set up near the fairway of Trump's golf course in Bedminster while the President played a few rounds. Similarly, a few months ago, the President quietly began having Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) aircraft holding station near him at all times, just in case enemy fighter jets or cruise missiles enter the airspace.To be sure, this security is very likely necessary, but therein lies the problem: If the President now requires a SAM system to be parked mere feet away from him during an ad hoc trip that only takes a few hours...this is indicative of how serious the threats are within the homeland. Even the notoriously paranoid Vladimir Putin, who got his start in the KGB and who's bedroom in the Kremlin has been targeted (so far unsuccessfully) by Ukrainian drones, doesn't travel around with an AWACS aircraft at all times. This is also very unlikely to be a case of President Trump himself being scared, and fortifying his surroundings as his predecessor did. President Trump is not a military man, and he would not have known to ask for a SAM system, and it's highly unlikely that Trump even knows that an AWACS follows him around everywhere now.Unfortunately, all of these extremely substantial security practices are probably not an overreaction, but likely a response to legitimate and very specific threats. What's more, the security practices that we visibly observe are not the countermeasures that would be effective against the standard lone-wolf terrorist or the standard variety of screeching lunatic who might want to target the President. These countermeasures are only for countering nationstate-level threats. In Turkey, for instance, the only entities that could have targeted President Trump's plane are national-level actors. Similarly, the use of an Avenger SAM system implies that the threat might be so quick to materialize, that the standard Combat Air Patrol that is mere minutes away...might not be fast enough of a response. If any other President had been observed chipping the ball onto the green with a SAM system parked in the rough just off the fairway...the American people would be panic buying cases of water and digging a bunker in their back yard by now.But because a level of tension that surpasses the height of the Cold War has become normalized, the general population barely notices.
