An unexpected event occurred early on Saturday as Sony's PlayStation Network went down for around 18 hours leaving many without the ability to play even their single-player games unless they'd remembered to set their PS5 or PS4 as their primary console beforehand. The inability to read licenses essentially left anyone wanting to play digital games twiddling their thumbs. Should everyone be singing the praises of physical media now? Or could this make Sony further lessen the PSN requirement for PC games? Do you fear the all-digital future? At least Sony seems to be taking down a lot of the Spam games. David Brevik, formerly lead programmer on Diablo II, says modern Action RPG's reward players too quickly thus "cheapening the experience" and ruining the journey. Is he correct? Or is this quickening of everything just a sign of the times? Müssen es denn unbedingt so viele wippende Brüste sein, fragen die einen. Haben die etwa unsere wippenden Brüste zensiert, brüllen die anderen. Die Rede ist von Stellar Blade, einem Soulslite (Modernsprech für: ein bisschen wie Dark Souls und Co., aber lange nicht so schwierig) aus Südkorea, das zu Release gleich für mehrere Stürme im Wasserglas sorgte. Und das noch dazu ein überraschend kompetentes Action-RPGS ist, das glatt eine Empfehlung wert sein könnte. Unter anderem auch deshalb, weil man, wenn man sich dem Spiel ohne Schaum vor dem Mund und mit ein bisschen journalistischer Neugier auf das Herkunftsland nähert, einen spannenden Kommentar auf die politische und gesellschaftliche Lage in Südkorea erkennen kann. Aber ach, so was interessiert Spielekritiker ja nicht. Also anderswo. Uns interessiert das natürlich brennend. Finden Sie‘s raus! The whispers are back baby! FF7 Rebirth is the followup to the beloved FF Remake which preceded the disappointing FF7 Ever Crisis, the sequel to the much maligned FF7: Dirge of Cerberus which continued building on the world established by the pretty awesome FF7: Crisis Core that chronologically came before FF7: Before Crisis on mobile phones that was released after FF7 Advent Children which brought the team back together from the original FF7 for the PS1. This series has become an unwieldy beast with MCU levels of world building, sometimes to its detriment. But my brothers and sisters in Jenova, this game fucks. Most players clock in around 100 hours of game time with a plethora of side content, great character interactions, and the possibly the greatest Action RPG battle system yet devised. Here is a game that I played as a child, but always held a place in my heart, Secret of Mana.  An Action RPG that did something unique on the SNES, gave us a 3 player RPG.  Its a one of kind.  Also was the first game titled Mana that we got here in the west.  I am joined by a few friends who also love this title.  We reflect on memory lane as we dive deep into Secret of Mana, come listen to what we thought. House House describes the game as a “Cooperative Online Walker-Talker” Set out with your friends through a wide-open world full of challenges, puzzles, and discoveries. You'll need to work together to find your way around, stay in contact using an assortment of tools and toys, and figure out new ways to communicate when you suddenly find yourself speechless. Adventuring aside, there's plenty of time to just hang out. Sit and watch the sunset, or steal your friend's binoculars and kick them into the ocean. Spending time with friends is the best part of a big walk. A link to the Steam version is here. Lightspeed Studios showed off their project LAST SENTINEL. Set in dystopian Tokyo, this is an open-world action game with a seriously cool trailer. While we don't know much about the game, and haven't seen any gameplay, the trailer sure does look good! What would any game show be without a few Warhammer 40k games? How about the long-awaited Space Marine 2? The game looks awesome from what we've seen so far, and if the first game is any indicator, we'll be romping around in powersuits draining the blood of our foes in religious fervor come Sept, 9th 2024!  Mecha Break is another in a series of new mech games we've been seeing lately. It looks faster-paced than Armored Core IV: Fires of Rubicon, and may be exactly what some mecha lovers need! There was plenty more shown at The Game Awards this year! Can every game be an RPG or is the term being over used? With a game like Baldur's Gate 3 gunning for GOTY 2023 and games like Starfield and Final Fantasy 16 also releasing, it's a good time for RPG games. But some feel the term is being over used when a game like Horizon Forbidden West is classified as an "Action RPG". But what about games like Marvel's Spider-Man 2 or Star Wars Jedi Survivor where clear RPG elements exist but the focus is more on action and adventure. Todd Howard recently commented on the idea that anything can be an RPG and I want to discuss if the term is being over used or if people are gatekeeping something they feel they need to protect. The definition of an RPG game: A role-playing game is a game in which players assume the roles of characters in a fictional setting. Players take responsibility for acting out these roles within a narrative, either through literal acting or through a process of structured decision-making regarding character development.
