Mea Culpa welcomes back to the show our good friend, Norm Eisen. There's pretty much nothing going on in politics today that he doesn't have an opinion about. His recent book, "Overcoming Trumpery” is a great read, especially as we get into the midterms and watch Republican candidates try to mimic Trumpian tactics to get elected. Eisen is a CNN Legal Analyst. And the founder and executive chair of “States United Democracy Center”, a nonpartisan organization advancing free, fair, and secure elections. Eisen served as special counsel to President Barack Obama on ethics and government reform. In that role, he was dubbed “Mr. No” and the “Ethics Czar” because he's well known for his tough anti-corruption approach to governance. Eisen is also active with the Brookings Institute and other groups working to expose the myriad of ways Trump and his cronies broke the law and attempted to overturn the 2020 election. Eisen is also working with the Brookings Institute to help Ukraine recover and progress now and hopefully post Putin's war. As we always say, Eisen is a witness to history. Michael and Norm dig deep into the upcoming midterms, the rise of antisemitism, and Trump's legal woes.

PLUS: Why is Donald Trump averse to listening to his experts when it comes to Iran?Social Circle city officials closed off and locked the newly-purchased DHS warehouse utility box - meaning "no water for ICE," and no access to sewer services, either. [RELATED: Quinnipiac poll: 64% want path to legal status for most undocumented immigrants] Georgia seems to be primed to move back to using hand-marked paper ballots ... by 2028. All this overhauling over one man who couldn't accept the result of one election and none of the others before, that same day, or since. Insane, but at least they're not racing to upend local and state elections' offices before November. Today I provided another reminder that the "Biden-flation" the right keeps pointing back to while shrugging off "affordability" concerns was sparked by a Trump-negotiated deal with OPEC to throttle back oil production for two years. Speaking of mis-applied credit/blame, conservative pols and pundits are breathlessly trying to blame the partial DHS shutdown on Democrats, impacting air travel throughout the country; but Democrats offered a carve-out to fund TSA and the other parts of DHS not named ICE or CBP .That being said, AFGE union leaders are noting the pain. The notable eight-year gap between Trump 1.0 ignoring his secretary of state - who told Congress Iran was 'fundamentally in compliance' with the JCPOA negotiated by President Obama and Iran - and Trump 2.0 ignoring his director of the National Counterterrorism Center has us where we are now: spending $1 billion a day in a war-like "excursion" with Iran that's also spiking oil and gas prices globally - while simultaenously making us less energy independent in shuttering coastal wind farms for no good reason. Also, while Trump boasts he knew the Strait of Hormuz would be choked off, he apparently never planned for it. If you haven't heard much about the plight of Rodney Taylor, my last two segments today will infuriate you. Arrested about fourteen months ago for a crime he'd been pardoned for more than fifteen YEARS ago, Taylor is set to be deported back to Liberia. He came here at age 2 with a medical visa to help his parents provide for him the opportunity overcome being a double amputee. Oh, the pardon? DHS simply chooses not to recognize it, plus he's a man of color so "off he goes!" While detained, he's literally dragging himself through excrement to get a shower (when he even can) and relying on other prisoners for food the days he can't get to the cafeteria to eat. It's disgusting.

(And we talk about the Illinois Democratic Primaries! They were counting votes as we recorded.) Episode 977 examines the 2026 Illinois Democratic primary while dissecting David Axelrod's fantasy that Democrats should rerun the Obama 2008 campaign in 2028, as if the berserk Republican backlash to Obama never happened. Driftglass and Blue Gal discuss how legacy media pundits use lazy abstractions about "the people" and "the voters" while pretending the Republican party didn't become a full-on fascist movement on their watch. The episode introduces "an apple made of razors"—David French's technique of piling up Both Sides turds before one perfunctory paragraph disclaiming what he's obviously doing, the opposite of Brooks's "razor in the apple." It's about false choices, selective memory, and why the #1 priority in 2028 must be tearing out the Republican party root and branch, not another round of bipartisan healing.Stay in Touch! From a surprising Republican resignation over the Iran conflict to a leaky White House, rising gas prices, this doesn't look to be the easy in and out President Sundown promised. Then we blast off into a space-themed discussion inspired by Project Hail Mary, breaking down what makes a great space (and space disaster) movie, whether we prefer our sci-fi grounded in reality or pure escapism, and swapping favorites from Gravity to Star Wars. We also touch on the ever-weird “aliens are real” discourse making headlines after former President Obama baited Trump into making sweeping proclamations about releasing all files related to aliens (but not Epstein). Three weeks into the Trump administration's war with Iran, the path toward a clean victory is looking narrower and narrower. And with an ever-shifting series of objectives, it's not even clear what such a victory would look like. Matt Kibbe is joined by Scott Horton, executive director of the Libertarian Institute, to discuss where the war goes from here and whether there is even a coherent strategy at play. After failing to enact meaningful regime change and with low public approval ratings for this military action, a best-case scenario would probably involve Trump simply declaring victory and bringing our troops home. However, Iran is unlikely to allow that resolution to happen and is likely to keep inflicting pain on American military bases as a deterrent to future bombings. The good news is that, as was demonstrated in 2013 with Barack Obama's abortive strikes on Syria, the American people have the power to influence foreign policy if they make their voices loud enough, especially on the eve of the midterm congressional elections.

For the eleventh episode of “50 Weeks That Shaped America,” we go to the spring of 2008. Barack Obama was largely on path to clinch the Democratic nomination, but he had to navigate one last major controversy. In April, ABC did a report on remarks by his long-time Pastor Jeremiah Wright, and a scandal exploded. In response, Obama delivered a speech entitled “A More Perfect Union,” where he distanced himself from Wright, but also tried to put his pastor and his own life story into the larger context of race relations, anger, and resentment throughout American history. Jody, Niki, and Kellie talk about the speech, but also try to get into what it signaled about how Obama would talk — and not talk — about race throughout hist presidency.Join our America250 newsletter community! Bill discusses the third week of a U.S. and Israel-led war against Iran and Americans' cratering support for Israel, with J Street founder Jeremy Ben-Ami and senior VP Ilan Goldenberg. Ben-Ami calls it Netanyahu's long-sought war, notes the JCPOA(“The Iran Nuclear Deal” under Obama) had effectively constrained Iran's program, and says the current effort lacks clear goals. They highlight polling showing a sharp decline in U.S. support for Israel—especially among 18–34-year-olds—and criticize AIPAC's tactics and funding, urging Democrats to end “blank check” support, emphasize Palestinian rights, and pursue a balanced, pro-diplomacy approach. They also explored why the war began, where it may lead, and its political fallout. Goldenberg argues there was no imminent threat, diplomacy and other alternatives existed, and the U.S. lacked technical negotiators, leaving outcomes likely to resemble a long containment quagmire with higher oil prices and persistent regional instability. Today Bill highlights the work of J Street and suggests you check out their work at JStreet.org.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Tara dives deep into the shocking consequences of Obama-era birthright citizenship policies, including how over a million U.S. citizens raised in communist China could vote in 2030. From birth tourism loopholes to GOP Senate obstruction, the episode covers voter fraud, government mismanagement, and the fight to reclaim American election integrity. Plus, a heartwarming twist: the story of a dog cured of terminal cancer using AI and RNA technology, highlighting how innovation can defy conventional limits.
Tara exposes the controversial legacy of Obama-era policies and how they could lead to over a million U.S. citizens raised in communist China being eligible to vote by 2030. From birth tourism to special visas for Chinese Communist Party members, she breaks down the risks of unchecked birthright citizenship and the GOP's struggle to codify protections. The episode also dives into the internal Republican showdown, the SAFE Act, and how House and Senate dynamics are shaping efforts to reclaim control over election integrity and government appointments.
Jeff & Shannon expose Trump's ironclad demand for the SAVE America Act plus Merkel's blatant migrant vote bloc against AfD, while dissecting Joe Kent's Iran resignation, St. Patrick's Day bloodlines talk, and NATO freeloading. High-energy truth-seeking on Rumble, YouTube, X and Red State Talk Radio—tune in now! Buckle up, patriots—@intheMatrixxx and @shadygrooove storm into Season 8, Episode 49, “TRUMP DEMANDS SAVE AMERICA ACT; Merkel Weaponizes Migrants vs AfD” with relentless America-First analysis, cutting through the globalist fog on both sides of the Atlantic and beyond. President Trump is hammering the Senate to pass the SAVE America Act immediately—no watered-down version—demanding strict voter ID, proof of citizenship to register, an end to widespread mail-in voting fraud, plus bans on men in women's sports and transgender procedures for minors, declaring he won't sign other bills until it's done and warning it will “guarantee the midterms” for real Americans. Meanwhile, Angela Merkel is openly urging “people with a migration background” to form a voting bloc and stand together against the surging AfD, the party fighting for mass deportations and Germany First—validating the long-predicted playbook of importing permanent left-wing voters to reshape nations. Jeff and Shannon deliver sharp, documented breakdowns: Trump's St. Patrick's Day Oval Office meeting with Irish Taoiseach Micheál Martin highlighting 23 U.S. presidents with Irish bloodlines and questioning Obama-era cash pallets flown to Iran; Joe Kent's sudden resignation from National Counterterrorism Center claiming no Iranian threat despite his own history, met with Caroline Leavitt's firm rebuttal citing compelling evidence of first-strike plans, ballistic missiles, and nuclear ambitions; Trump's strategic precision in Iran operations that wiped out regime military assets while preserving civilian infrastructure and oil facilities for the Iranian people's future; and the embarrassing NATO allies who cheered from the sidelines but refused real support like minesweepers or carriers after years of U.S. trillions spent. They also spotlight patterns around certain media and “dissident” figures pushing coordinated narratives that crumble under scrutiny. The truth is learned, never told. “If we don't fight, then what are we doing?” — Jeff BoydHow do you write fiction about contemporary America when reality itself is stranger than fiction? A country in which “alternative facts” is policy rather than satire. Where “truth” has been nationalized.Jeff Boyd, an acclaimed young American novelist, sees fiction as refuge. For both writer and reader, it gets us inside the heads of people who both inflict and endure pain. And it enables the senseless to make sense. The news cycle can't do that. A novel can.Boyd's second novel, Hard Times, out today, is his latest attempt to make sense of the senseless. No, the title isn't Dickensian — it's from Curtis Mayfield. The song on the 1975 “There's No Place Like America Today” album, with its cover juxtaposing some happy Americans in a car with others waiting miserably in the unemployment line. America might be great — but for whom, exactly? That dichotomy shapes Hard Times, which is set in a school on the South Side of Chicago where an innocent student gets shot and nobody can agree on what happened or why.Is the American Dream over? Boyd isn't quite sure. “As much as it feels impossible,” he says, “some part of me always wants to believe.” His characters fight — backs against the wall, cards stacked against them, but they don't give in. That's what Curtis Mayfield was singing about in 1975 and it's what Jeff Boyd is writing about in 2026. The times are hard. A time, once again, for novelists to seize back reality. Five Takeaways• How Do You Make Stuff Up When Reality Is Already Unbelievable? Boyd admits he sometimes wonders what the point of being a novelist is when the headlines are stranger than fiction. His answer: fiction is a refuge. It lets you get inside the heads of people who inflict pain or endure it, and try to make sense of what in reality remains senseless. The novelist can provide an answer. The news cycle can't.• Not Dickens — Curtis Mayfield: The title comes not from the 1854 novel but from the 1975 song on There's No Place Like America Today. The album cover says it all: happy people in the car, desperate people in the unemployment line. America is great — but great for whom? That dichotomy drives the book.• A Policeman's Son on George Floyd: One of the officers who stood by while George Floyd died was black — a man whose family had been proud of him for getting the job, who went in wanting to do good. Boyd can't write off an entire category of people. His black cop character in Hard Times exists to show the complexity of wanting to do right and getting caught up in wrong.• Fate vs. Agency on the South Side: Boyd's grad school friend — not religious but deterministic — argued you could draw a line from where someone starts to where they'll end up. Boyd's characters fight against that line. A kid from a broken home on food stamps doesn't have to end where you think. The novel asks whether the line holds or breaks.• The Fight Goes On: Is the American Dream over? Boyd isn't quite sure. His characters have their backs against the wall and the cards stacked against them, but they don't give in. That's what Curtis Mayfield was singing about in 1975. It's what Boyd is writing about in 2026. The times are hard. The fight goes on. About the GuestJeff Boyd is the author of The Weight (Simon & Schuster, 2023) and Hard Times (Flatiron Books, 2026). A former Chicago public school teacher and graduate of the Iowa Writers' Workshop, where he received the Deena Davidson Friedman Prize for Fiction, he lives in Brooklyn with his family.References:• Hard Times: A Novel by Jeff Boyd (Flatiron Books, 2026) — the book under discussion, out today. 1. Author: Victor Davis Hanson. Title: *The Dying Citizen: How Progressive Elites, Tribalism, and Globalization Are Destroying the Idea of America*. Hanson explores the classical importance of the middle class as the bedrock of a stable republic, drawing from Aristotle's view of self-reliant citizens. He argues that the historical strength of the American middle class—rooted in property ownership and autonomy—is being undermined by a "hollowing out" into two classes: the fabulously wealthy and a dependent "peasant" class. Hanson cites the Obama administration's figures "Pajama Boy" and "Julia" as symbols of a new state dependency that replaces Jeffersonian independence. This shift is particularly visible in California, where high taxes and regulations drive out the middle class. (1)1940 LA

In this Sunday Interview, Bradley Onishi sits down with historian Matthew Avery Sutton to discuss his sweeping new book Chosen Land. Sutton argues that from the colonial era onward, Americans have pursued a centuries-long project to transform North America into a “holy land” that could usher in God's millennial kingdom. Paradoxically, the founders' decision to create a secular Constitution and protect religious freedom through the First Amendment helped fuel the explosive growth and innovation of American Christianity. Without a state church, religious leaders became entrepreneurs—competing for followers through media, technology, and spectacle—helping make the United States far more publicly religious than many other Western democracies. The conversation explores how a long-standing Protestant cultural dominance shaped American politics and public life, from Abraham Lincoln navigating religious expectations in the 19th century to Barack Obama confronting controversy over Rev. Jeremiah Wright. Sutton also explains the decline of mainline Protestantism, the rise of evangelical branding, and why the very term “evangelical” is largely a modern reinvention rather than a continuous tradition stretching back to figures like Jonathan Edwards. The episode closes with a look at today's Christian nationalism, culture-war politics, and apocalyptic thinking—from debates about Israel to interpretations of global conflict—asking whether the United States is witnessing the last gasp of white Protestant dominance or simply another revival in a long and turbulent religious history. A headline-friendly story says Iran tried to assassinate Donald Trump. We pull the threads and find a different picture: an FBI-driven sting targeting Asif Merchant, two undercover “hitmen,” no money to fund the job, and no credible evidence that Tehran ordered anything. When prosecutors invoke state secrets and the agents who proposed the idea also control the evidence, it raises a hard question—are we building a case for war on a foundation of sand? From there we widen the lens. Antony Blinken has acknowledged years of Israeli pressure on Washington to strike Iran, and the gap between Obama's resistance and Trump's compliance says a lot about how policy gets made. We explore how the Israel lobby, friendly media, and political figures turned a flimsy plot into a narrative arc: Iran is coming for us, so hit first and ask later. Add Marco Rubio's blunt admission about coordinating with Israel and you see the operational fusion—shared weapons, shared intelligence, shared target sets—that makes de-escalation harder and miscalculation easier. We also unpack the chaotic state of negotiations. Reports that senior envoys entered talks without nuclear experts help explain the constant moving of goalposts: from enrichment levels to ballistic missiles to regional behavior. When your asks keep changing, diplomacy becomes theater and escalation becomes default. Meanwhile, at home, costs mount—rising fuel prices, an affordability crunch, and the chilling reappearance of draft talk framed as “options on the table.” Younger Americans, skeptical of another proxy war, are asking who benefits and who pays. If you care about evidence-based policymaking, media literacy, and avoiding a wider regional conflict, this conversation lays out the signals behind the noise. We separate proof from posture, show where the narrative broke from the record, and highlight the off-ramps still available—if leaders have the courage to take them. If this resonated, tap follow, share it with a friend, and leave a quick review so more people can find the show. Your feedback shapes what we dig into next.
1. No Endless War or Ground Occupation Strong emphasis that this is not Iraq or Afghanistan: No large ground invasion No nation-building No long-term occupation Military strategy described as rapid, overwhelming, air-dominant action. Confidence that U.S. casualties will be minimal and duration short. 2. Military Action Against Iran Is Justified as Self-Defense The conflict is framed as a response to 47 years of Iranian aggression, including: Sponsorship of terrorism Killing nearly a thousand Americans Attempted assassinations of U.S. officials Iran is described as an irrational, theocratic death cult, making deterrence unreliable. Nuclear capability in Iran is portrayed as an existential threat to U.S. cities. 3. This Is “America First,” Not a War for Israel Repeated rejection of claims that the war is driven by Israel or Jewish influence. Such claims are labeled dishonest, antisemitic, and propaganda. The stated motivation: protecting American lives and national security. 4. Gas Prices Are a Short-Term Political Weapon Gas price increases are framed as temporary and expected due to Middle East conflict. Democrats are accused of exploiting gas prices the same way they previously focused on egg prices. The speaker argues prices are still lower than under Biden, despite rising from recent lows. Long-term expectation: Iran’s collapse would lower global gas prices. 5. Strong Leadership vs. Weak Appeasement Trump is decisive and feared by adversaries. Obama and Biden are criticized for appeasement and failed nuclear deals. Past diplomatic failures (North Korea, Iran nuclear deal) are cited as evidence diplomacy failed. 6. Harsh Criticism of Tucker Carlson and Isolationists Tucker Carlson is accused of: Spreading anti-American propaganda Echoing Islamist narratives Undermining U.S. troops His statements about unconditional surrender and nuclear escalation are called: False Dangerous Morally grotesque Isolationist conservatives are grouped with progressive Democrats as a shared threat to U.S. foreign policy. 7. Iranian Regime Change Is Seen as Necessary The appointment of a new Iranian leader (son of the former Ayatollah) is rejected. Any continuation of clerical Islamist rule is deemed unacceptable. Regime collapse is framed as the only path to lasting security. 8. Deterrence Fails with Religious Extremism Comparison between North Korea and Iran: North Korea: dangerous but rational Iran: irrational due to religious ideology Argument: Traditional nuclear deterrence does not work with actors who glorify martyrdom. 9. Public Opinion Depends on Duration and Casualties Acknowledgment that support would collapse if: War drags on for years U.S. casualties rise significantly Confidence expressed that this outcome is “near zero.” 10. Closing Shift to Religion and AI Ends with an unexpected, uplifting segment: An AI-generated Christian apologetic is quoted at length. The response argues Christianity is intellectually compelling, historically grounded, and uniquely truthful. The Democratic primary for US Senate in Illinois is a bit quiet, according to our guest. But underneath the surface, one candidate has a VERY interesting way of getting attention...and voters are starting to notice. David Axelrod, former adviser to President Obama, joins the show to discuss this Chicago-style Senate race.
The war with Iran has already killed more than a thousand Iranians, including 175 people killed at an elementary school on February 28th. Remember America First? That swath of the MAGA movement that purportedly wanted to stay out of foreign entanglements and wars to focus on problems that Americans were facing right here at home? Today, the same GOP that called Kamala Harris a warmonger is giving the war with Iran two thumbs up. And while some notable anti-war figures on the right have been speaking out against the conflict, Trump and the Republican Party are full speed ahead despite struggling to justify their actions. Tommy Vietor, co-host of Crooked Media's Pod Save the World and former spokesperson for the National Security Council in the Obama administration, joins to discuss the American First presidency that isn't.And in headlines, the Senate passes a housing bill with overwhelming bipartisan support but House GOP members are unlikely to get on board, Department of Homeland Security funding talks continue to stall, and the White House is keeping busy posting tasteless memes about the war.Show Notes: Check out Pod Save The World – https://tinyurl.com/4n6y99mu Call Congress – 202-224-3121 Subscribe to the What A Day Newsletter – https://tinyurl.com/y4y2e9jy What A Day – YouTube – https://www.youtube.com/@whatadaypodcast Follow us on Instagram – https://www.instagram.com/crookedmedia/ For a transcript of this episode, please visit crooked.com/whataday

On tonight's live episode, Andy & DJ break down the arrest of two suspects in the alleged NYC bomb plot who launched a series of ISIS-inspired threats and slogans after being taken into custody. They also cover Anthropic's lawsuit against the Trump administration over being blacklisted following a clash about the use of AI for surveillance, and Jesse Jackson Jr.'s sharp rebuke of Obama, Clinton, and Biden during a memorial service, claiming they never truly understood his father.
Jesse Kelly joins the show and they talk about how his stern father prepared him well for his military training. They break down Obama's hatred for America and the hypocrisy of people who claim to love this country while raging against its foundational principles. Jesse then talks about how communist takeovers always involve ridding a country of its most prevalent religion and they wrap up by breaking down Charlize Theron's insane quotes about her gay and black children. 1. U.S. Military Success Against Iran (“Operation Epic Fury”) The U.S. has massively reduced Iran’s missile and drone launch capacity over eight days. U.S. forces allegedly destroyed air defenses, missile sites (including mobile launchers), drone infrastructure, and naval capabilities. They argue the U.S. now holds air and naval superiority, enabling cheaper munitions and sustained operations. 2. Global Oil Strategy and Potential Seizure of Kharg Island Discussion of Iran’s dependency on Kharg Island as its primary oil export hub (≈90%). Suggestion that the U.S. may be positioning itself to seize or control this strategic point. This would cripple Iran financially, control the Strait of Hormuz, and create major leverage over China’s energy supply. 3. Domestic Terror Concerns Several incidents referenced (NYC explosive scare, Austin attack, embassy explosion in Norway). Such threats are not caused by the Iran conflict but by long-standing extremist ideology. Strong accusations that open border policies increased vulnerability to terrorism. 4. DHS Funding Fight in Congress Democrats are accused of keeping parts of DHS unfunded (Coast Guard, TSA, FEMA) while ICE remains funded due to earlier legislation. The speakers assert this creates risk to national security during a heightened terror threat environment. Claim: Democrats are doing this to appeal to their base who oppose ICE and strict immigration enforcement. 5. Global Reactions and Rising Islamist Activity Some Islamist groups allegedly responding violently worldwide due to Iran’s conflict and loss of funding. Concern raised that DHS funding issues undermine the U.S.’s ability to defend against these threats. 6. Criticism of Democrat Positions on Iran Senator Chris Murphy is specifically criticized for defending the Obama-era Iran nuclear deal. The deal never provided real inspection rights and would have allowed Iran to eventually obtain nuclear weapons. Trump pulling out of the deal and attacking Iranian facilities set Iran’s program back significantly. 7. Tucker Carlson Controversy “Unconditional surrender” leads to U.S. soldiers committing atrocities. The U.S. might require nuclear weapons to force Iranian surrender. These statements are anti-American, extremist, and helpful to Islamist propaganda. Claims that Iranian state media and the Muslim Brotherhood promote Carlson’s segments. 8. New Iranian Leadership Iran allegedly names the son of the previous Ayatollah as its new leader. Speakers argue any continuation of clerical rule is unacceptable for U.S. security. They describe Iran’s leadership as religious extremists who cannot be deterred like other states. 9. Airport Security Incidents and Public Anxiety Several recent flight diversions and security scares are mentioned. Reduced DHS staffing (due to the funding dispute) worsens risks and delays.
