With nearly four decades of experience, Ray continues to drive growth, inspire others, and leave a lasting impact on the franchise industry.Key Insights:Stand out in the market. Identify what makes your business unique and focus on that to differentiate yourself from competitors. Whether it's a unique product, exceptional customer service, or a novel business model, make sure your uniqueness is clear to your customers.Simplify your mission statement. A mission statement should be clear, concise, and actionable. Ray advises that it should be one sentence long and known by every employee. This keeps everyone aligned and focused on the primary goal of the business.Delegate your weaknesses. Recognize areas where you are not strong and hire people who can fill those gaps. This helps your business stay well-rounded and capable of addressing all aspects necessary for success.Adapt quickly. When unexpected challenges arise, be ready to pivot your business model. Identify new needs in the market and adjust your products or services to meet them. Quick adaptation can turn a crisis into a growth opportunity.Set and achieve key milestones. Identify the three most important goals for your business at any given time. Focus your energy and resources on achieving these goals before tackling less critical tasks. Ray's best advice for entrepreneurs:“You gotta know the mission statement. You gotta live the mission statement. It's one sentence.”Get Ray's books: “YOU'RE NOT LISTENING TO ME,” “The Challenge,” “Selling Today,” “Round the Clock,” “Laws of Inevitability,” and “Put a Little JJ In Your Life.” Resources Mentioned:SignaramaFully PromotedTransworld Business AdvisorsAccurate Franchising IncorporatedExit FactorTitus Center for FranchisingProfit FirstStraight-Line LeadershipLincoln on LeadershipThe 6 Types of Working Genius Death by MeetingThe Five Dysfunctions of a TeamBuy then BuildGritThe FounderConnect with Ray Titus:LinkedInWebsiteFollow Beyond 8 Figures:LinkedInXWebsiteAffiliate Disclaimer: Some links in this episode are affiliate links. If starting a lifestyle brand has always been a dream of yours, this episode with Eric Bandholz, founder of Beardbrand, is a real treat. He shares how maintaining full control through bootstrapping allowed him to prioritize ethical sourcing and customer relationships over rapid growth. His story is a real inspiration for anyone who wants to create a business that not only succeeds financially but also supports their quality of life while staying true to their personal values.About Eric BandholzEric Bandholz started Beardbrand in 2012 with a simple goal: to make men feel awesome. From its beginnings as an online community, Beardbrand has grown into a major brand in the $3.2 billion beard care market, now offering a broad range of grooming products and even a brick-and-mortar barbershop in Austin. Eric attributes his success to staying true to his core values, especially freedom, which is grounded in stoic principles of focusing on what you can control. A graduate of the University of South Carolina, Eric left the corporate world behind to create a community-centric brand. Operating as a bootstrap venture, Eric has steered Beardbrand, focusing on sustainable growth and independence, avoiding external investments. He advocates for the lifestyle business model, encouraging a balance between personal well-being and professional success. Key Insights:Incorporate your core values into your business strategy. Core values are much more than psychology mumbo-jumbo; they shape every decision you make in your business. They help to reflect what your company stands for and attract customers who share these beliefs.Enjoy your entrepreneurial journey. Even though everyday tasks might often feel like a drag, finding meaning in them can help to maintain motivation and prevent burnout. And remember that there's always something to celebrate, no matter how small. Leverage bootstrapping for greater control. Using your own money to fund your business can keep you in control and help you make quick decisions that are right for your business without external pressure. Focus on sustainable business growth. Choose growth strategies that fit your goals and business vision. Opting for steady, predictable growth is better than chasing overnight success, as it helps to maintain product quality, protects your reputation, and ensures your business grows in a manageable way.Build and engage your community. Hosting events, starting discussions on social media, creating loyalty programs, featuring spotlight customers, offering behind-the-scenes content… These are just a few ways you can turn your buyers into brand advocates and build a community that supports your growth. Eric's best advice for entrepreneurs:"What matters is that you're enjoying the journey [...] When you can focus on building today and what I'm doing at this moment, then it doesn't really matter where you end up."Get Eric's “Book of Reminders”Connect with Eric Bandholz:LinkedinInstagramXBeardbrandFollow Beyond 8 Figures:LinkedinXWebsite

As co-founder of the nonprofit organization She Moves Mountains, Lizzy VanPatten aims not only to encourage women to push beyond their limits, but to break the mold and make space for women in the male-dominated industry of guiding. Opening up about her past struggles with depression, she found inspiration through mountaineering that allowed her to face insecurities, overcome fears and emerge stronger than ever before. Her overwhelming sense of empowerment became a newfound passion that changed the course of her life. Confronted by the lack of female representation in rock climbing, Lizzy and her partner sought out to move their own mountains to start a guiding business and mentorship program built to inspire women to discover their untapped strength. Despite the challenges of funding, permits and even a pandemic, Lizzy continues to grow She Moves Mountains into a thriving business. As she pioneers her way through the competitive climbing industry, she learns to take deep breaths when criticism comes her way and continues to challenge the status quo for the sake of all gender minorities. Lizzy encourages aspiring climbers and entrepreneurs to not let the fear of being uncomfortable keep you stagnant, as failure is what sparks the growth that pushes us forward. Ep 015 | Skipping Corporate Life and Being an Entrepreneur (Interview with Ashley Streff) If you've checked out Vogue or follow lululemon LA, then chances are you know my guest's work, but today you are getting the awesome opportunity to hear who Ashley Streff really is and how she became a photographer of celebrities, The Bachelor and much more! Ashley is not only my photographer, but a good friend as well. She knew at age 17 that she wanted to shoot for Vogue and celebrities and set out in the world to make that dream a reality. Fresh out of college, armed with an iPhone and in Paris, she took photos and submitted them to PhotoVogue…and the rest is history! Listen in as we talk life as a true entrepreneur, how much we love The Bachelor, what it takes to truly be an influencer and how you just have to get your feet wet before jumping all the way in. What we're talking about Childhood Dreams Learning Curve Relationships Childhood Dreams Becoming Reality We all had childhood dreams but so often they simply vanish. Ashley's childhood dream is something she was able to live out and not just when she hit middle age, but right out of college. Ashley shares with us how she made her dream come true and has grown into one of the most sought-after photographers in LA. Always Learning You can never know too much and the truth is that you must learn more in order to grow more. Ashley and I discuss how you should always keep learning, whether it's from others, in a class or simply learning from your mistakes. Cultivate Relationships No matter what business you're in, you have and should be building relationships. Cultivating relationships and truly getting to know other people and their needs will put you so much further ahead than if you simply focus on yourself. Forming relationships can be a win-win not only for you personally but for your business as well, afterall, you don't have a business if you don't have clients. Ashley was such a fun guest and I am so happy she shared with you her sage advice for those just starting out but also wisdom for those of you already in business as well. LINKS MENTIONED Ashley Streff Instagram Photographer's Brunch Photography Workshop TIMESTAMPS 40:18 (87 sec - AS) – We did a deep dive, which I think is so important for people if they don't know. That's usually for hours, you're going really deep with someone in your business. A lot of emotional stuff comes up as well, a lot of limiting beliefs. At the end of it you know, she kind of had this spark for me, so many no's have happened, so many struggles have happened that I have these patterns in my body. I'm connected to that struggle. It's always been a struggle for me. Thing have not been an easy road and so when these hits that happen all the time, my body can remember them and my body will consume me and I'm having to train my body that you're not in that place anymore and you're ok and work. And I had this massive sort of in the fall, where everything came crashing and these things happen for entrepreneurs. This always happens a bunch, kind of like not that it goes wrong but kind of goes wrong and then you sort of have a breakthrough and then because you're evolving, so I had that moment in my life all these things changing and it's been kind of an interesting road and since then I've really slowed down and she said to me, she was like “oh I get it now, this is your childhood dream.” QUOTES The tenacity I had…I knew that that company meant something to me. I knew it. It was in my heart of hearts. There was something here, like I'm so f$ing perfect for this company. AS Sometimes you just have to keep learning. AS You were open to continuing to learn. LH If this is in you rheart, tohse no's won't matter and they should propel you. LH I'm like the geriatric bachelorette. LH You cannot succeed without failures. You cannot fall down without getting back up. LH We need to keep learning. We cannot grow without it. LH You have to earn your place in this world and that takes paying your dues, being a reliable citizen and being good at relationships. LH Earn your worth. LH You can't just say namaste and hope it works.
