There is no doubt in my mind that we, as a nation (and, across the world) are facing a moral confusion if not a complete moral crisis. And, unless righteous, bold men step up to the plate, we'll continue to see the moral decay of everything we love from our favorite institutions, to our families, and our neighborhoods, and even the threat of losing this great nation. That isn't hyperbole. Today, I am joined by John Lovell, founder of Warrior Poet Society and former Army Ranger to discuss what we as men can do about it. We talk about mercy and justice (and, how to satisfy both), why we should hate injustice, the dangers of communism and socialism, why we must unite behind Truth (with a capital T), why "happiness" is inferior to "joy," and why we should pursue peace if possible but truth at all costs. 00:00 - Introduction & Catching Up 01:20 - Why John Wrote "The Lions of Mercer" 03:49 - Justice, Fiction, and Catharsis 07:15 - The Cry for Justice 08:07 - Modern Culture and Victimhood 08:51 - Loving the Good vs. Hating the Evil 11:44 - Redemption, Failure, and Public Dogpiling 13:01 - Loyalty, Forgiveness, and Standing by Brothers 16:14 - What Is "The Good"? 18:27 - Justice, Mercy, and the Role of Christ 20:15 - Judgement, Hypocrisy, and Accountability 23:07 - Integrity and Personal Alignment 24:39 - Happiness vs. Joy 26:39 - Teaching Discipline and Long-Term Thinking 27:03 - You Can Only Replicate Who You Are 28:22 - Wrestling With Faith and Christianity 29:02 - The Dangers of Atheism & Moral Relativism 31:05 - America's Moral Foundation 32:42 - Who Decides Morality? 34:12 - Rise of Socialism & Cultural Rejection 35:38 - New York, Ideology, and Consequences 36:36 - Unity vs. Compromise 38:41 - What Makes Someone American? 39:58 - Parenting, Boyhood, and Raising Men 40:45 - Why Boyhood Resurrected Was Written 42:38 - Risk, Adventure, and Rite of Passage 46:14 - Finding Balance in Parenting 47:09 - Trust, Risk, and Leadership in Marriage 51:27 - Why Should Your Wife Trust You? 52:21 - Leadership, Submission, and Marriage Dynamics 55:49 - Biblical Structure for Marriage 59:04 - Loving Leadership and Wise Authority 01:00:54 - Closing Thoughts & Transition to IC Segment 01:01:15 - Where to Find John Lovell 01:02:13 - Q&A Teaser Battle Planners: Pick yours up today! Thank you! Today's show is brought to you by Aura Frames. Aura Frames: the gift that brings your favorite holiday traditions and memories to life every day. You know, there are some goodbyes we never quite learn how to say. For those of us in life's later chapters, the love we give — and receive — from our pets often takes on a deeper, quieter meaning. They're not just animals. They're our companions in the long walks, the quiet nights, the joyful mornings. They don't judge our age, our pace, or our past. They just stay, and in so doing they combat our epidemic of loneliness according to the US Surgeon General.   Today, on The Not Old Better Show – Art of Living series, we're joined by someone who recently said goodbye to their beloved dog — a companion who offered years of loyalty, humor, and comfort.   It's a story many of you will know well: the unspoken rituals, the tail thumps that meet you at the door, the warmth of a furry friend who somehow senses what you need before you even speak it. And then, the silence that follows when they're gone.   But this conversation isn't just about grief. It's about gratitude. It's about the meaning of companionship in older age — how a dog can fill a home, heal a heart, and remind us that we are never too old to love deeply, and be loved in return.   In all transparency, I know our guest, Mike Olsen, very well. I know the family. You'll hear me mention Mike's parents, who i know well, and Mike's sons, Mike's wife Sara, all dear friends. We'll talk about Mike's dog, and pets in general.   Stay with us — this one's for every listener who's ever held a paw, shared a look, or whispered goodbye through tears.

If you are interested in the Daily Bible Devotional, you can find it at the links below:Amazon - (paperback, hardcover, and Kindle)YouTube Video Introducing the ContentFeel free to reach out with any questions: emersonk78@me.comII John  John writes to a selected lady and her children, urging them to continue walking in truth and love. He rejoices that some of them are living according to the truth, just as the Father commanded. He reminds them of the old command to love one another and explains that love is demonstrated through obedience to God's commands. John warns against deceivers who do not acknowledge that Jesus Christ came in the flesh. Such individuals are identified as antichrists. He encourages believers to be careful and not lose what they have worked for, but to remain faithful so they may receive a full reward. Anyone who does not remain in the teaching of Christ does not have God. John concludes with hope to visit soon and encourages ongoing fellowship and faithfulness.  We are encouraged to stay grounded in both truth and love. Knowing what is right isn't enough; we are called to live it out each day. Loving one another shows that we belong to God and are walking in His light. At the same time, we must be cautious of false teachings that seek to distort the truth about Jesus. We guard our hearts by holding firmly to the message we first believed and by remaining connected to the teachings of Christ. When we stay faithful, we grow closer to God and help others do the same. Let us commit to living with love, protecting truth, rejecting error, and encouraging one another to remain strong in our faith.  Heavenly Father, thank You for the truth that resides in us and will be with us forever. Help us walk faithfully in love and obedience, just as You have commanded. Grant us wisdom to recognize false teachings and the courage to stand firm in the truth of Christ. Teach us to love others deeply, showing grace and kindness in all that we do. Strengthen our hearts to remain in the teachings of Jesus, so we stay close to You and avoid being led astray. Fill us with joy, peace, and a desire to live in truth each day for Your glory.  Thought Questions: John took great joy in hearing of others walking in the truth. Who are you attached to in Christ, whose faith brings you joy and peace? Which is more important: the truth about Jesus or the love of Jesus within you? How do you make sure to feature both in your life? Who qualifies as an “antichrist”? How have you prepared to respond to someone who denies Jesus Christ as Lord?

There are many aspects of The Path to Enlightenment that one would need to learn and practice with guidance from a Teacher, however, Loving-kindness Meditation should be among the top priorities for any Practitioner aspiring to attain Enlightenment. The goal of Loving-kindness Meditation is to eliminate anger, hatred, ill will, resentment, negative self talk, and other discontent feelings associated with the unEnlightened mind.In this Podcast, David will guide you in a Loving-kindness Meditation session and will accept questions from Students to help you develop your meditation practice and progress forward on The Path to Enlightenment.——-Daily Wisdom - Walking The Path with The BuddhaDedicated to the education of Gotama Buddha's Teachings to attain Enlightenment.https://www.BuddhaDailyWisdom.com(See our website for online learning, courses, and retreats.)Group Learning Program - LIVE Interactive Online Classes, Book, Audiobook, Videos, Podcast and Personal Guidancehttps://mailchi.mp/f958c59262eb/buddhadailywisdomThe Words of The Buddha - Pali Canon in English Study Grouphttps://mailchi.mp/6bb4fdf2b6e0/palicanonstudyprogramFREE Book - Developing a Life Practice: The Path That Leads to Enlightenmenthttps://www.buddhadailywisdom.com/freebuddhabooksFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/DailyWisdom999YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@DailyWisdom999Podcast: https://creators.spotify.com/pod/profile/buddhadailywisdom/Support our efforts to share The Teachings of Gotama Buddha with you and worldwide for all people using this link.https://www.buddhadailywisdom.com/supportbuddha#buddhism #learnbuddhism #enlightenment #dhamma #dharma #buddha #meditation #meditationretreat #meditationcourse

Finn's spirit calls to her, weaving a tale of love intertwined with BDSM and longing that transcends the physical realm. In a journey filled with tearjerking revelations and tantalizing encounters, Tess must confront the truth of Finn's demise and the powerful connection that binds them—one that could either set her free or drown her in desire forever. Join Tess as she navigates the stormy waters of love, loss, and the supernatural, discovering that some ties can never be severed, and the heart's deepest yearnings can lead to the most unexpected places. Will she find closure, or will she drown in the depths of her desire?

You Deserve Flowers with Devon Blow In this episode, host Adina Oberman interviews Devon Blow, a dynamic artist and illustrator from Los Angeles who specializes in illustration, design, writing, and social justice advocacy. Devon discusses her debut book "You Deserve Flowers," a pocket-sized collection of affirmations and poetry that originated from a therapy assignment focused on self-affirmation. The conversation explores Devon's creative process, her passion for representing diversity and marginalized communities in her work, and her upcoming projects with Familius, including "Life's Best Bits" and a picture book. Throughout the discussion, Devon emphasizes how her art is deeply connected to social justice work and her desire to bring hope and encouragement to people from all walks of life. Episode Highlights 00:00:10: Adina Oberman introduces the Helping Families Be Happy Podcast and welcomes guest Devon Blow, describing her impressive background as an artist working with major clients like Netflix, Oprah's Book Club, and the United Nations. 00:01:42: Devon thanks Adina for having her on the podcast and the conversation begins. 00:01:44: Adina expresses excitement about discussing Devon's new book and their working relationship. 00:01:59: Devon introduces "You Deserve Flowers" as a pocket-sized book of affirmations and poetry designed to provide encouragement whenever readers need it. 00:02:27: Adina asks Devon to share the inspiration behind the book and her creative process. 00:02:37: Devon reveals the book originated from a therapy assignment where she was asked to write affirmations for herself as if speaking to others, since she found it easier to affirm others than herself. 00:03:26: Adina shares several affirming messages from the book, including "Loving yourself isn't arrogance, it's survival" and discusses the beautiful artwork. 00:04:16: Devon identifies the rain/puddles page as one of her favorites from the book. 00:04:19: Adina highlights Devon's artistic signature of including little hearts on characters' cheeks throughout the book. 00:05:14: Devon explains that people and diversity inspire her creative work, and she finds beauty in everyone's unique features and cultural backgrounds. 00:06:00: Adina asks Devon to elaborate on how her work connects to her passion for social justice. 00:06:18: Devon discusses how community and hope are central to her social justice work, citing influences like James Baldwin and bell Hooks, and emphasizing the importance of embracing differences. 00:07:28: Adina asks Devon to share information about her upcoming projects. 00:07:47: Devon announces her second book with Mamis titled "Life's Best Bits" featuring over 190 illustrations about simple joys, plus a picture book project and a middle-grade fiction book she's currently writing. 00:08:41: Adina expresses excitement about Devon's upcoming work and asks where listeners can find her online. 00:09:00: Devon directs listeners to her website and social media at @DevthePineapple across all platforms. 00:09:12: Adina thanks Devon for joining the podcast. 00:09:14: Adina concludes the episode by thanking Familius for their support and encouraging listeners to subscribe and leave reviews. Key Takeaways Self-affirmation can be challenging even for those who naturally affirm others, and therapeutic exercises like writing affirmations can be transformative creative outlets. Art can serve as a powerful tool for social justice advocacy by representing diverse communities and providing hope during difficult times. Small, accessible formats like pocket-sized books of affirmations can provide encouragement and support in everyday moments. Embracing and celebrating differences in people's backgrounds, cultures, and appearances is essential to moving forward as a society. Creative work that centers love, community, and inclusivity can have meaningful impact beyond aesthetic value. Finding inspiration in the beauty of everyday people and their unique features can fuel authentic and representative artistic expression. Quotable Moments "Loving yourself isn't arrogance, it's survival" - From Devon's book "You Deserve Flowers" "This rain won't stop you. The puddles remind you, you survived" - From Devon's book "You Deserve Flowers." "Trust your feelings, but don't forget to let the joy in" - From Devon's book "You Deserve Flowers." "I think if we can inspire each other and just be kind to one another, which sounds really cliche, but it's true" - Devon Blow on her approach to social justice work. "I think embracing all of our differences is what will push us forward" - Devon Blow on diversity and community. "I love affirming others, but I struggle with affirming myself" - Devon Blow on the origins of her book. "I think all of our unique features and things makes us really beautiful" - Devon Blow on her artistic inspiration.

Navigating the complexities of family dynamics can sometimes feel like walking a tightrope—especially when relationships between parents and adult children become strained or even break down completely. Family estrangement is an increasingly common challenge that can leave everyone involved feeling isolated, misunderstood, and in deep pain. When communication falters and generational differences collide, how do we find a path toward empathy, healing, and growth? In this episode, listeners are invited into a heartfelt exploration of adult child-parent estrangement, its underlying causes, and the impact it has on both individuals and entire families. The conversation offers practical insights on healing old wounds, understanding the spiritual and psychological dynamics at play, and tools for fostering compassion—even when distance or conflict seems insurmountable. With stories, expert reflections, and actionable guidance, this discussion aims to support anyone facing the difficult terrain of family disconnection, offering hope and concrete steps toward greater understanding and unity. Dr. Rachel Glik is a licensed professional counselor with 30+ years as a couples, individual and family therapist in private practice. Since 2014, she has been a regular feature on the Fox 2 AM show in St. Louis as a relationship and mental health expert. Rachel appeared on NBC News Daily at the launch of her book, A Soulful Marriage: Healing Your Relationship with Responsibility, Growth, Priority, and Purpose. She is a writer for The Wall Street Journal, CNBC Make It, Psychology Today, and MindBodyGreen. Rachel teaches and gives seminars for organizations such as The Kabbalah Centre and Young Presidents Organization (YPO). She lives in St. Louis with her husband and large extended family.   Episode Highlights 03:40 Exploring why parent–child estrangement is becoming more common. 09:04 Considering how distance can sometimes support healing and growth. 12:35 The power of early repair before patterns set in. 15:03 Understanding the emotional complexity of parenting adult children. 16:31 Shifting into a new parental role as boundaries and autonomy evolve. 21:35 Recognizing the grief and self-validation needed as relationships change. 24:26 Reflecting on how to hold a compassionate space for an adult child's experience. 26:09 Learning to move beyond defensiveness and listen with openness. 29:38 Embracing generational differences with curiosity rather than fear. 32:56 Navigating how estrangement affects couples and their parenting alignment. 37:56 Prioritizing self-compassion in the midst of relational hardship. 40:43 Practicing accountability and authentic repair within the family and partnership.   Your Check List of Actions to Take Take a moment to ground yourself with a deep breath before engaging in challenging family conversations to increase presence and calm. Aim to respond with supportive, non-judgmental language, empowering your adult child to make their own decisions. Listen deeply to your child's experiences and feelings, holding space for their emotions without jumping into explanations or defense. Find the balance between support and over-giving, maintain your wellbeing, and be mindful of your energy. Ask permission before sharing concerns or advice, acknowledging you're entering your adult child's "lane." Recognize the pain and complexity of estrangement, and give yourself grace throughout the healing process.
