Im Gespräch mit Miriam teilt sie ihre Geschichte vom Burnout zur Balance und zeigt, wie wir alle unseren eigenen Weg zu einem gesünderen Lifestyle finden können - ohne Stress und schlechtes Gewissen.

Malgré les différents arrêtés préfectoraux interdisant notamment la vente, l'utilisation et le transport de ces derniers, l'inquiétude est de mise du côté des urgences et cliniques alsaciennes, qui accueillent lors de chaque soirée du Nouvel an des blessés par pyrotechnie. Quelques consignes de base sont rappelées : ne jamais redéclencher un engin qui n'a pas explosé et ne pas le vérifier, éloigner les mineurs, ou encore respecter la loi en utilisant uniquement les pétards disponibles sur le marché.Toujours dans le cadre de cette soirée du Réveillon, un couvre-feu a aussi été mis en place dans les villes de Strasbourg, Hœnheim, Bischheim, Schiltigheim, Illkirch-Graffenstaden, Lingolsheim et Ostwald. Les mineurs de moins de 16 ans devront être accompagnés de l'un de leurs parents ou d'un représentant de l'autorité parentale jusqu'à demain 06h. Une mesure pour éviter les violences, alors que de nombreux feux de poubelle et de voitures ont déjà été enregistrés lors des dernières semaines.Vers la construction de deux nouveaux périscolaires dans la Communauté de communes du pays de Barr ? Une étude de faisabilité a été approuvée par la collectivité il y a quelques jours. Les communes de Epfig et de Dambach-la-Ville seraient concernées par ces constructions, alors qu'elles accueillent chacune une centaine d'enfants en périscolaires, mais aussi une vingtaine de demandes non satisfaites. Les futurs équipements pourraient alors offrir 160 places à Epfig et 180 à Dambach-la-Ville. De quoi permettre encore d'accueillir les enfants des villages les plus proches : respectivement Reichsfeld, Bernardvillé et Itterswiller, ou encore Nothalten et Blienschwiller. Une ouverture est espérée pour la rentrée 2028-2029.Bien que les marchés de Noël aient fermé leurs portes, la ville de Colmar joue les prolongations avec son marché gourmand. Agrémenté de sa grande roue, il s'agit d'un lieu phare, comme l'explique Eric Straumann, maire de la cité de Bartholdi. Selon Météo Suivi Alsace, le précédent record datait du 24 septembre 2022, alors que la première neige tombe en moyenne le 19 octobre.126 emplois menacés. Le site alsacien de l'équipementier automobile Novares, situé à Ostwald, devrait prochainement fermer. Le taux de mortalité de cette maladie, non transmissible aux humains, est proche de 100%. Hi, Crime Family, thanks for being here this week for this Just One B episode, with solo Beth telling the rough story of the murder of Cammi Leigh Ostwald, who was a 16-year-old Michigander from Clinton Township, which is a suburb of Detroit. She was a pretty typical teenager, but after a fight with her mom about an older boy, Cammi ran away. Cammi's family were frantic to find her and bring her home, but the 19-year-old her 'friend' asked to look after her took that possibility off the table. Her murder was horrific and cruel, and seems likely to have taken place because of a childish fantasy the perpetrator had held in his mind for years. Please hear Cammi's story, and keep in your hearts all the distraught families of runaways. Her family loved her. Her family wanted her home. She really didn't grasp how much she was loved, even though they showed it with the care they tried to give her. This loss was tragic and brutal and devastating. Rest in peace, Cammi. Large heat differences can't be maintained on a small scale. 2. rare materials If a nanobot consists largely of something rare, getting more of that material to replicate is difficult outside controlled environments. Growth of algae and bacteria is often limited by availability of iron, which is more common than most elements. Iron is the active catalytic site of many enzymes, and is needed by all known life. The growth of something made mostly of iron would be far more limited, and other metals have more limited availability than that. 3. metal surfaces Melting material isn't feasible per (1), so material must be built up by adding to the surface. Since that's the case, the inside of structures must be chemically the same as what was the exterior. Metal objects have a protective oxide layer. In an air or water environment, there's no way to add individual (eg) aluminum atoms to a metal surface and end up with metallic aluminum inside; the whole thing will typically be aluminum oxide or hydroxide. Corrosion is also a proportionately bigger problem for smaller objects. A micrometer-scale metal structure will rapidly corrode, perhaps doing some Ostwald ripening. 4. electric motors Normal "electric motors" are all electromagnetic motors, typically using ferromagnetic cores for windings. Bigger is better for those, up to at least the point where you can saturate cores. On a very small scale, it's better to use electrostatic motors, and you can make MEMS electrostatic motors with lithography. (Not just theoretically; people actually do that.) But, per (2) & (3), bulk metals are a problem for a self-replicating system. If you need to have compounds floating around, electrical insulation is also difficult. You also need some way to switch current, and while small semiconductor switches are possible, per (3) building them is difficult. Dans ce nouvel épisode d'Avec mes Sabots, Stéphane vous emmène dans la roulotte d'Anne et Oswald, les têtes de mulets. Roulotte tractée par deux chevaux avec qui les deux voyageurs ont fait un tour des Alpes de deux ans, entre 2014 et 2016.  Installée avec Ostwald dans une maison complètement isolée dans la campagne Héraultaise, Anne, dans ce nouvel épisode d'Avec mes sabots, témoigne avec humour, raconte ce voyage, livre quelques anecdotes...  Pourtant, comme elle rappelle, un grave accident a failli remettre complètement en question leur voyage. Mais les deux roulottiers vont s'entêter pour mener à bien leur projet. En effet, ils ont remanié l'équipe complète et c'est avec deux belles juments qu'ils sont partis alors qu'ils envisageait de partir avc deux mulets.  Les deux voyageurs ont d'abord longé les Alpes par le Sud : après la France, l'Italie, la Slovénie, la Hongrie, pour arriver en Roumanie. C'est dans les Carpates qu'ils ont hiverné en partageant la vie des habitants d'un tout petit village. Au printemps, Anne et Oswald ont poursuivi leur boucle cette fois par le Nord : nord de la Hongrie, Slovaquie, Autriche, Bavière, Allemagne et retour en France. Abstract: In natural settings, learning and decision making often takes place under considerable perceptual uncertainty. Here we investigate the computational principles that govern reward-based learning and decision making under perceptual uncertainty about environmental states. Based on an integrated perceptual and economic decision-making task where unobservable states governed the reward contingencies, we analyzed behavioral data of 52 human participants. We formalized perceptual uncertainty with a belief state that expresses the probability of task states based on sensory information. Using several Bayesian and Q-learning agent models, we examined to which degree belief states and categorical-choice biases determine human learning and decision making under perceptual uncertainty. We found that both factors influenced participants' behavior, which was similarly captured in Bayesian-inference and Q-learning models. Therefore, humans dynamically combine uncertain perceptual and reward information during learning and decision making, but categorical choices substantially modulate this integration. The results suggest that categorical commitments to the most likely state of the environment may generally give rise to categorical biases on learning under uncertainty. Abstract: Humans often face sequential decision-making problems, in which information about the environmental reward structure is detached from rewards for a subset of actions. For example, a medicated patient may consider partaking in a clinical trial on the effectiveness of a new drug. Taking part in the trial can provide the patient with information about the personal effectiveness of the new drug and the potential reward of a better treatment. Not taking part in the trial does not provide the patient with this information, but is associated with the reward of a (potentially less) effective treatment. In the current study, we introduce a novel information-selective reversal bandit task to model such situations and obtained choice data on this task from 24 participants. To arbitrate between different decision-making strategies that participants may use on this task, we developed a set of probabilistic agent-based behavioural models, including exploitative and explorative Bayesian agents, as well as heuristic control agents. Upon validating the model and parameter recovery properties of our model set and summarizing the participants' choice data in a descriptive way, we used a maximum likelihood approach to evaluate the participants' choice data from the perspective of our model set. In brief, we provide evidence that participants employ a belief state-based hybrid explorative-exploitative strategy on the information-selective reversal bandit task, lending further support to the finding that humans are guided by their subjective uncertainty when solving exploration-exploitation dilemmas. This week's podcast we dig into one of the six attributes that help to create environments of connection, Human Scale. I interview Thom Grieving, Principal of HKS, about his team's work around a very special project that helps to exemplify what design with human scale for connection looks like at University of California at San Diego, Theater District Living and Learning Neighborhood. For this project, the Dean and leadership of UCSD had thoughtfully embedded considerations around social health and social connection in the original program of spaces and considering community health and wellness were key aims that the project targeted. Spaces designed at a human scale use architectural detailing and variety to create small and intimate environments that are comfortable for people to move through or occupy. These are spaces that meet our basic human needs for comfort, safety, and interest (1), and that feel good to be in for reasons that are often indescribable. City blocks designed at a human scale have been shown to promote more social interactions and lingering (2), whereas research reveals that blocks with large expanses of monotonous storefront elevate stress responses and speed walking (3). This conclusion was tested at a Whole Foods in New York City, where a research team found that despite the store operator’s desire for Whole Foods to feel like a local grocery store and blend with the existing neighborhood, the expansive glass storefront actually repelled passersby, who quickened their pace to get past it (4). This finding echoes a growing body of research in both human and mouse models that show how spaces devoid of ornamentation and variety can elicit a strong stress response (5), believed to be linked to the painful boredom they provoke (6). This week, guest co-host Kirsten Traynor joins us with Madeleine Ostwald. Madeleine studies bees, having worked with both honey bees and carpenter bees. When days get hot, we seek out ways to cool off with water. Beekeepers (and sometimes their neighbors) know that honey bees do the same.  As an undergraduate student in Tom Seeley’s lab, Madeleine turned up the heat on a honey bee hive to find out just how they do this. Madeleine observed some bees adapt to heat stress by acting like water storage containers, always ready to chill things down when days get hot. Madeleine now investigates desert carpenter bees in Arizona. Wood is a precious resource in these barren lands, so carpenter bees end up sharing a home. To learn how these large bees shape, modify, and change their nest structures over time, she enlisted the help of a local hospital and their CT-scanner. Abstract: Tracking statistical regularities of the environment is important for shaping human behavior and perception. Evidence suggests that the brain learns environmental dependencies using Bayesian principles. However, much remains unknown about the employed algorithms, for somesthesis in particular. Here, we describe the cortical dynamics of the somatosensory learning system to investigate both the form of the generative model as well as its neural surprise signatures. Specifically, we recorded EEG data from 40 participants subjected to a somatosensory roving-stimulus paradigm and performed single-trial modeling across peri-stimulus time in both sensor and source space. Our Bayesian model selection procedure indicates that evoked potentials are best described by a non-hierarchical learning model that tracks transitions between observations using leaky integration. From around 70ms post-stimulus onset, secondary somatosensory cortices are found to represent confidence-corrected surprise as a measure of model inadequacy. Primary somatosensory cortex is found to encode Bayesian surprise, reflecting model updating, from around 140ms. As such, this dissociation indicates that early surprise signals may control subsequent model update rates. In sum, our findings support the hypothesis that early somatosensory processing reflects Bayesian perceptual learning and contribute to an understanding of its precise mechanisms. Stathis Psillos (Athens) gives a talk at the MCMP Colloquium (13 December, 2012) titled "Making Contact with Molecules: On Perrin's Argument for Realism". Abstract: Between roughly 1908 and 1912, there was a turn in the scientific community in favour of the atomic hypothesis. Jean Perrin’s theoretical and experimental work on the causes of Brownian motion played a major role in this shift. When Perrin received the Nobel Prize for physics in 1926, it was noted in the presentation speech that he “put a definite end to the long struggle regarding the real existence of molecules”. The aim of this talk is to cast light on the reasons that explain the shift of opinion concerning the reality of atoms and molecules in the beginning of the twentieth century. The story told will have some rather interesting repercussions concerning the scientific realism debate. After presenting the philosophical debate concerning the role and status of explanatory hypotheses c.1900, (focusing on the work of Ostwald, Poincaré and Boltzmann), I will examine in detail Perrin’s theoretical account of the molecular origins of Brownian motion and explain the structure and the strength of Perrin’s argument for the reality of molecules.

The yield on Chinese five-year government bonds hit its highest since 2014 on Friday, causing a rarely seen inversion of the yield curve. Hans-Joachim Dahms (Vienna) gives a talk at the MCMP workshop "Influences on the Aufbau" (1-3 July, 2013) titled "Rudolf Carnap and Wilhelm Ostwald". Abstract: When Rudolf Carnap started work on his dissertation Der Raum in Summer 1920 he also hosted a conference with some of his Jena friends in his Buchenbach home about „a system of the sciences“. Carnap proposed as starting point for that discussion a scheme and ideas developed by Wilhelm Ostwald (1853-1932), the nobel-price winning chemist (1909) and monistic philosopher. Ostwald is also men- tioned and discussed in the Aufbau. What Carnap might have attracted to Ostwald’s work, are the fol- lowing items of common interest: (i) the construction of international artificial languages for everyday use (like esperanto), but also for sci-entific purposes, (ii) monism and the unity of the sciences, (iii) theories of colour, and last but not least: (iv) ethics. After a brief discussion of these points I will conclude with a tentative answer to the question why Ost- walds influence on Carnap seems to have diminished in the decade since the Buchenbach conference.

Paul Ziche (Utrecht) gives a talk at the MCMP workshop "Influences on the Aufbau" (1-3 July, 2013) titled "Theories of Order in Carnap's Aufbau". Abstract: "Order" is a key term in debates in, and between, fields such as logic, philosophy of mathemat- ics, theoretical biology and philosophy of science around 1900. In § 3 of the "Aufbau", Carnap refers af- firmatively to a number of relevant authors: Whitehead and Russell, Driesch, Ostwald, Husserl, and many more. This list already indicates how broad and, from today's point of view, internally heterogeneous the discourse on order has been in this period. This paper will motivate why the notion of "order" played such a crucial role around 1900, and what its strategic position in those debates has been: "order" was conceived of as an ultimately abstract and general concept that could, nevertheless, be given content via, among others, mathematical and logical methods, or within fields such as biology. On the other hand, these diverse lines of influence also shaped the status of the field of logic itself. In a second step, it will be asked how Carnap views this discourse on order, and how he reacts to it, and to the broader ideas that form the strategic background of the notion of "order".
