Welcome back to a revisited edition of Think Thursday from the Alcohol Minimalist Podcast. These Thursday episodes are all about understanding your brain, challenging outdated thought patterns, and using neuroscience to support real, lasting change in your relationship with alcohol. This week, we're bringing back one of the foundational Think Thursday conversations: The Privilege of Self-Improvement. Whether you're hearing it for the first time or coming back for a refresh, this episode is especially relevant as we approach the end of the year and the start of the holiday season. What You'll Learn in This Episode:Why self-improvement isn't a burden, but a privilege uniquely available to humansThe role of your prefrontal cortex in planning, reflection, and long-term behavior changeHow to shift out of the “start over in January” mindset and build momentum nowWhy changing your drinking habits is an act of personal development, not punishmentThe neuroscience behind why your brain can work for you—or against you—and how to make it your allyWhy This Episode Still Matters:Too often, people think change has to wait until a new year, a clean slate, or a big external motivator. But this episode reminds you that the ability to grow, reflect, and choose new actions is one of the most powerful parts of being human. And that process can start today—right where you are.Key Quote:"The very fact that you're capable of imagining a better version of yourself and taking steps to create it is something to celebrate—not dread."Resources:Read the book: Breaking the Bottle Legacy by Molly WattsFree guide: Alcohol Truths — science-based info to guide your choicesLearn about our core programs: Making Peace with Alcohol, Drink-Less Success, and Proof PositiveNew episodes release every Monday and Thursday. Liz Truss is the former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and Leader of the Conservative Party.  Her political career and ideological outlook have had and continue to have a profound impact on contemporary British Conservatism and the western world. Liz Truss was first elected Member of Parliament for Southwest Norfolk and quickly rose through the ranks, holding ministerial posts under David Cameron, Theresa May, and Boris Johnson. Throughout her political career, she consistently advocated for classical liberal and free-market Conservative principles, meaning a smaller state, lower taxes, deregulation, and a belief in the power of individual enterprise to drive economic growth. Her eventual Premiership was shaped by this ideological stance.Liz remains politically active and is a prominent voice among free-market Conservatives both in the UK and abroad.  She recently Co-Founded and Chairs the Verity Alliance Foundation, which champions the fundamental values that have made Europe and the West great, focusing on the power of national sovereignty, the importance of free speech, and the enduring strength of Christian values that have shaped our civilization for centuries.Join us at the great Billy Martin Tavern for great food and a fabulous discussion about her powerful book “Ten Years to Save the West” as well as politics today, music, food of course and so much more!Check us out at www.lunchwithshelley.com or wherever you get your favorite podcasts and in the meantime Peace, Love and Lunch!

Your wealth, identity, and digital assets are all connected — protecting them is as important as managing your investments. Most cyberattacks target individuals, not just corporations. Retirees are prime targets because of their savings, steady income, and tendency to trust legitimate-looking communications. Five essential layers of protection. Multi-factor authentication, long passphrases, regular software updates, secure backups, and professional-grade security tools dramatically reduce your risk. Awareness beats fear. You don't need to be a tech expert — just build consistent habits, question unexpected messages, and know what to do if something feels off. Peace of mind is part of your plan. When Rev. Ron Russell Coons got diagnosed with AIDS he thought a lot about what healing meant when death was certain. He pursued it in his strained and broken family relationships and he preached about it from the pulpit. Though he knew, without a doubt, that he would die from AIDS, Ron claimed that he believed in and had experienced healing. What does healing mean when everybody knows it can't mean survival? Maybe healing is one's biological family and queer kin showing up and reaching for connection across those fractures. The children of God are peacemakers.  A peacemaker is someone who intentionally works to help people reconcile with God and others.  Anyone who does the hard work of peacemaking will be blessed by God.Main Points:1. The word “peace” in Matthew 5:9 combines two Greek words.  Together they mean to bring about wholeness, to bring all the essential parts together in wholeness.2. Peace-making requires God's power.  Real and lasting peace is impossible to create without God's help.  You can't make what you don't have.  The only way to have inner peace is to make peace with God through faith in Jesus Christ.3. Peacemaking is such hard work that it's easier to say…. “I'm staying out it.”  We try and fail and get discouraged, so we give up.  But through the power of the Holy Spirit, we can all work to be peacemakers, and in doing so we are a reflection of God's character.  Today's Scripture Verses:Matthew 5:9 - “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.”Romans 5:1 - “Having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through the Lord Jesus Christ.”2 Corinthians chapter 5:18 -  “God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation.”Quick Links:Donate to support this podcastLeave a review on Apple PodcastsGet a copy of The 5 Minute Discipleship JournalConnect on SocialJoin The 5 Minute Discipleship Facebook Group

One of the most time-tested principles in international affairs is the prescription “If you want peace, prepare for war.”  Since he became Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth has been clear about the most serious threat against which we must prepare – namely, that posed by the Chinese Communist Party.  The long-awaited National Defense Strategy reportedly will emphasize that reality. Secretary Hegseth told senior military leaders recently there would be “no rear areas” in the next war –presumably, because of the large numbers of Chinese soldiers here.  And on Saturday, Secretary Hegseth warned Asian nations of the imperative of improving “threat awareness” and maritime capabilities in the face of China's increasingly “destabilizing” and “coercive” actions in the South China Sea.   If you want “everlasting peace” with China, prepare for war – and help bring down the greatest threat we've ever faced: the Chinese Communist Party. This is Frank Gaffney.
