Aurion Biotech is a US biotech with a regenerative medicine platform, developing novel therapies to restore vision to millions of people in need. This week on the podcast, we have a conversation with CEO Greg Kunst about Aurion's pipeline, and how the company's treatment could be the first mass-market cell therapy available. The FDA has granted the company BTD and RMAT designations for AURN001 -- the first-ever allogeneic cell therapy candidate in development to restore vision in patients with corneal endothelial disease. This is a condition with around 16 million patients in the US, Japan and Europe alone. The current standard of care is currently transplant surgery.Aurion's proprietary process can turn cells from one donor cornea into more than treatments, with the potential to scale to more than 1,000, closing the gap on the global shortage of donor corneas.Aurion recently completed enrollment of a phase 1/2 trial in the US and Canada.00:43-01:53: About Aurion01:53-03:12: What are allogeneic cell therapies?03:12-04:11: Why is the eye a good target for allogeneic cell therapy?04:11-06:16: What is corneal endothelial disease?06:16-07:18: Is corneal endothelial disease genetic or just age related?07:18-09:22: Is transplant surgery the only option?09:22-10:58: Are other companies working on corneal endothelial disease treatments?10:58-12:26: How does your treatment work?12:26-13:36: Does your treatment alleviate the shortage of corneas?13:36-15:47: How would you get your treatments around the world?15:47-17:02: Could these treatments extend to other diseases?17:02-18:36: What do you need for a mass market treatment?18:36-19:36: Will there always be a need for this treatment?19:36-21:12: Is your treatment easy to administer? 21:12-22:41: What do the FDA designations mean for Aurion?22:41-24:38: Where are you with clinical trials?Interested in being a sponsor of an episode of our podcast? Luc ten Have, private resource investor and Founder of www.GoldDiscovery.com, joins me to review some of the best practices for investing in junior exploration stocks, some lessons he's learned over the years, and which of these companies have his attention at present. We start off looking at the volume and interest coming back into the commodities and into the TSX Venture Exchange, and how he goes about filtering down the large number of companies into the ones that pique his interest for their value proposition. He mentioned Targa Exploration (CSE: TEX) (OTCQB: TRGEF) as a company exploring for lithium, that just made an interesting gold discovery in their till sampling, that caught his attention, but presents an analysis of what are the upsides versus the downsides. This leads into discussions about share structure, the warrants in a deal, and how aligned a company management team is with shareholders based on their stake holding in a company and continued participation during capital raises. We also discuss the nuances around a strategic investor coming into junior resource stocks, and why he liked the setup in Montage Gold (TSXV: MAU) (OTCQX: MAUTF) as an example, where the Lundin family came in as strategic shareholders. Next we talked about opportunities that may get overlooked by the market due to jurisdiction or because there was a period of no news, with a prime example being the Sun Peak Metals (TSXV:PEAK) (OTCQB:SUNPF) story, where they had to pause drilling for a few years in Ethiopia, but now have multiple drill targets on a large project to follow up on, picking up from the knowledge and experience they already had working on this project from before they had to pause operations a few years back. We also circled back around to the ongoing developments with Aurion Resources (TSXV: AU) (OTCQX: AIRRF), where their JV partner B2Gold (TSX: BTO, NYSE: BTG) agreed to accept an offer, from Rupert Resources (TSX: RUP) (OTC: RUPRF) to acquire B2Gold's 70% interest in the joint venture between B2Gold and Aurion, which owns properties located in the Central Lapland Greenstone Belt in northern Finland. Aurion decided not to exercise their Right Of First Refusal (ROFR) on this portion of their JV project, but Luc was keen to point out that the deal is not closed yet between Rupert and B2Gold, and that there still are a few different strategic alternatives and options between Rupert and Aurion that may surface from this deal. It is going to be fascinating to watch how this prospective mineral endowment in Finland will be consolidated over time. Luc also mentioned a few other companies, like Lavras Gold (TSX-V:LGC, OTCQX:LGCFF) and Azimut Exploration (TSXV: AZM) (OTCQX: AZMTF) that are doing compelling drilling on multiple targets, but have a solid management teams that have made him more comfortable with the overall strategy to keep executing on their exploration plans. With all of the companies we discussed, Luc reinforced the idea of serious investors getting to know the management teams and speaking to them periodically to better understand the thinking behind the decisions they were making, and to occasionally challenge the choices made, to see how they respond and if they really have conviction in the path forward. We wrap up with Luc ten Have getting an overview how his platform at Gold Discovery can assist resource investors in their due diligence, as well as some upcoming changes on tap for analyzing opportunities in junior mining stock investing using his platform. https://ceo.ca/@luctenhave https://twitter.com/GoldDiscovery1 https://golddiscovery.com/
There are lots of new exploration drill results to report today, including the new discovery from Aurion Resources. Arizona Sonoran Copper, Meridian Mining, Li-FT Power and Metals Acquisition all had new results as well. Defense Metals has appointed a new finance advisor. Grassy Mountain in Oregon continues to positively move through the permitting process. We'd like to thank our sponsors: Arizona Sonoran Copper Company (ASCU:TSX) is focused on developing its brownfield copper project on private land in Arizona, a tier 1 location. The Cactus Mine Project is located less than an hour's drive from the Phoenix International airport via highway i-10, and with grid power and the Union Pacific Rail line situated at the base of the Cactus Project main road. With permitted water access, a streamlined permitting framework and infrastructure already in place, ASCU's Cactus Mine Project is a lower risk copper development project in the infrastructure-rich heartland of Arizona. For more information, please visit www.arizonasonoran.com. Fireweed Metals is advancing 3 different projects within the Yukon and Northwest Territories, including the flagship Macmillan Pass Project, a large zinc-lead-silver deposit and the Mactung Project, one of the largest and highest-grade tungsten deposits in the world. Fireweed plans to advance these projects through exploration, resource definition, metallurgy, engineering, economic studies and collaboration with indigenous people on the path to production. For more information please visit fireweedmetals.com. Vizsla Silver is focused on becoming one of the world's largest single-asset silver producers through the exploration and development of the 100% owned Panuco-Copala silver-gold district in Sinaloa, Mexico. The company consolidated this historic district in 2019 and has now completed over 325,000 meters of drilling. The company has the world's largest, undeveloped high-grade silver resource, which will grow with a resource update in early 2024. Learn more at https://vizslasilvercorp.com/ Victoria Gold operates the Eagle Gold Mine within the Dublin Gulch Property. Eagle is the largest gold mine in Yukon's long history of gold production. In addition to the long-life Eagle Gold Mine, the Dublin Gulch property has upsized exploration potential including priority targets Raven and Lynx among others. Luc ten Have, private resource investor and Founder of GoldDiscovery.com, joins me to share his key takeaways from PDAC, and the value of talking directly with company management teams. He we get into a highlighting a recent example from Delta Resources (DLTA.V) (DTARF), where he had initially missed a few key points reviewing the news information and company presentation, but got more context on what some of the new geological interpretation could mean for future drilling after meeting with the company at the PDAC. Next we talked about the big news today from Aurion Resources (AU.V) (AIRRF), where their JV partner B2Gold (BTO.TO) (BTG) provided notice that they have received an offer, from Rupert Resources (RUP.TO) (RUPRF) to acquire B2Gold's 70% interest in the joint venture between B2Gold and Aurion, which owns properties located in the Central Lapland Greenstone Belt in northern Finland. Aurion has 60 days with a Right Of First Refusal (ROFR) on this portion of their JV project, but would need some way of getting the financial backing to make the deal happen. We discuss the different paths forward where another company could come in to help Aurion, such as their 10% stakeholder Kinross (K.TO) (KGC), or possibly Agnico Eagle (AEM.TO) (AEM) that already has a sizeable stake in Rupert, and just recently took out a new stake in the nearby properties of FireFox Gold (FFOX.V) (FFOXF). It is going to be fascinating to watch how this prospective mineral endowment in Finland will be consolidated over time. Next we pivoted over to some of the differences seen in the Australia based resource investors and resource company approaches, versus what we see in the North American markets in Canada and the USA. For the last few years there have been noticeable differences in the liquidity of Aussie stocks versus Canadian or American listed stocks, as well as their makeup and skillsets of management teams, and how these companies approach getting financed. There is also more of a desire to kill or build projects in Australia, versus the typical North American pattern of drilling of resources for marketing purposes or to wait for a takeover offer.

Dave Lotan, President of LHI, a strategic resource investor in small cap commodities companies, and Non-Executive Chairman of Aurion Resources (TAX.V:AU – OTCQX:AIRRF), joins me for a wide-ranging discussion on the macro drivers for commodities, tips for investing in critical minerals and precious metals resource companies, and some of the key trends he is paying attention to. We start off reviewing the recent move to new highs in gold, followed by the retreat back lower again over the last week, how the gold equities responded, and the continued muted sentiment by investors in this sector. Dave brings up the importance he sees in the prior Evergrande real estate debacle in China, and how Eastern investors liquidated gold to shore up other falling investments, which had an reverberations within the precious metals sector the last few years. Ultimately Dave feels we need to see generalist investors switch from the “buy the dip” mode in US equities to more of a safe haven defensive posture when they become more cognizant of the economic weakness to come and possibly another corrective move in the stock markets. Next we dug into the critical mineral sector, where he is most bullish on the longer-term value proposition that copper and copper stocks offer, and notes a few of the glaring mismatches in political agendas versus the reality with regards to permitting and approvals of large copper projects to bring on more production. Dave also illustrates the pent up interest in new discoveries from investors highlights the recent movements in 3 junior stocks (2 of them being copper stocks) that put out encouraging drill results: Hercules Silver (BIG.V) (BADEF), Lavras Gold Corp. (LGC.V) (LGCFF), and Aston Bay (BAY.V) (ATBHF). With regards to nickel stocks, he finds it more challenging top pick juniors, and sticks to the bigger names like Vale (VALE) or in a secondary manner through Altius Minerals (ALS.TO) (ATUSF) nickel-copper-cobalt royalty stream on Voisey's Bay. With regards to the lithium stocks, he notes that it's been a mixed bag with companies like Sayona Mining (SYA.AX) (SYAXF) struggling, but companies like Pilbara Minerals (PLS.AX) (PILBF), Patriot Battery Metals (PMET.V) (PMETF), and Brunswick Exploration (BRW.V) (BRWXF) having attracted a large amount of investor interest this year. The discussion loops back around to Barrick Gold (ABX.TO) (GOLD) recently taking out a large stake in Hercules Silver, and this moves us to look into some past and present larger companies taking strategic stakes in junior companies. Dave fields the question about how large strategic positions so ideally be without it discouraging potential future merger or acquisition deals from other companies. He noted that companies like Liontown Resource (LTR.AX) (LINRF) and Azure Minerals (AZS.AX) (AZRMF), that allowed in strategic positions larger than 10% to upwards of 19.9% stakes, just saw recent takeover bids from Albemarle (ALB) and Sociedad Química y Minera de Chile S.A. (SQM) respectively sterilized. We get into some of the nuances in bringing in larger partners, and why he is focused on the investors rights agreement during these partnerships, and how they structured things when Kinross Gold (K.TO) (KGC) wanted to get positioned in Aurion Resources. Dave wraps us up with some of the key milestones and work strategy at Aurion's JV project and 100% owned projects during 2023, and then looks ahead to what he's excited about in 2024. https://aurionresources.com/corporate/management-board/board-of-directors/david-lotan/

The exploration team has hit gold mineralization in 17 out of the 18 step out holes in the winter drilling program and 5 of the scout holes, with ongoing drilling and more results to report as the year progresses. The budget has also been increased to $3.5 million to continue expanding the exploration work at Helmi. Next we touched on the news announced August 8th on the transaction with Tertiary Minerals Plc to acquire and cancel royalties on the Kaaresselkä (Risti, 100% Aurion) and Kiekerömaa (B2Gold JV) gold prospects for a total consideration of CAD$200,000 and 83,333 Aurion common shares. It is advantageous for the company to have removed the royalties from both projects, and to have brought on a new stakeholder in Tertiary Minerals. We wrap up outlining the upcoming summer dill season that will proceed through the end of the year at the 100% owned Risiti property, testing for extensions of gold mineralization at the Aamurusko Area, and scout drilling to test regional targets such as base of till anomalies and geophysical features. If you have any follow up questions for Matti on Aurion Resources, then please email us at either Fleck@kereport.com or Shad@kereport.com.

VIII secolo a. Brookago goes international this week with an exclusive interview with the head of Kiro'o games, Madiba Olivier, and We talk about Kiro'o's upcoming game Aurion, The Legacy of Kori-Odan! All this globe trotting wouldn't be possible without our Minister of No-Finance, Shareef Jackson, so we bring him in to talk about whether Phil Spencer has waved the white flag on the console war, what it's like to fight on Hoth, and so much more.
It seems only natural that a game like Bloodborne could spur our longest podcast to date. Come watch us argue over just what exactly it gets right and wrong. We also spend some time this week talking about Aurion, Square Enix's shame, and of course Mountain Dew flavors.
