Summary In this episode, Andy talks with Bree Groff, transformation consultant, speaker, and author of Today Was Fun: A Book About Work (Seriously). Bree challenges the idea that work must be draining to be valuable, offering a refreshing and practical vision for how leaders can help teams thrive, and even enjoy, their workdays. They explore how her upbringing shaped her perspective on work, why so many teams normalize burnout and busyness, and how leaders can model a healthier, more joyful approach. Bree introduces rituals, such as user manuals and daily check-ins, that foster trust and psychological safety, and she explains what it means to build “cozy teams” that perform through connection. You'll also hear her take on performative professionalism and how to lead without losing your humanity. If you're looking for ways to lead with more energy, authenticity, and yes, fun, this episode is for you! Sound Bites “Most work, most days, should be fun.” “Being busy is not the same as being brilliant.” “Cozy teams are teams that trust each other enough to tell the truth.” “We've confused being professional with looking professional.” “You can either be consumed by your calendar or create space to consume ideas.” “Even shoveling tough work can be joyful if you like your co-shovelers.” Chapters 00:00 Introduction 02:00 Start of Interview 02:03 Bree's Background and Family Influence 05:47 The Normalization of Burnout 10:54 Optimizing for Good Laughs with Good People 17:50 Performative Professionalism vs. Authenticity 26:26 Creating Fun and Cozy Work Environments 33:08 Building a Trusting and High-Performing Team 34:42 Practical Tools for Team Cohesion 35:15 The User Manual: A Quickstart Guide to Teamwork 37:01 Daily Check-ins: Enhancing Team Communication 38:28 The Fast Food Rule: Effective One-on-One Communication 40:38 Prioritizing Personal Well-being for Better Work 46:24 Milton Glaser: Finding Pleasure in Work 49:45 Applying Team Principles in Family Life 51:39 End of Interview 52:12 Andy Comments After the Interview 56:52 Outtakes Learn More You can learn more about Bree and her work at BreeGroff.com. When your pelvic floor let's you down, it can be easy to reach for your phone to find a kegel gadget or app that will fix it .. but, do we really need another gadget to tell us how our pelvic floor is doing? After an interesting conversation with a colleague, I'm breaking down the rise of pelvic floor tech — from kegel trainers to biofeedback devices — and asking a deeper question: what if the real solution isn't in the tech, but in your own connection with your body? While these devices can have their place, I'm ask you to press pause and consider this:✨ Your body already holds the wisdom (yes, it really does!).✨ You don't need a gadget to earn your connection back (it will only cost money and gather dust).✨ Trust, awareness, and consistency matter more than clever apps and expensive kits. This is a light-hearted but deeply empowering episode for any woman who's ever felt like her body is broken, disconnected, or needs ‘fixing.'

This week, Jake and Bob conclude their series on athletics by welcoming Fr. Burke Masters, the baseball priest, and Trevor Williams, the Washington Nationals pitcher, to the show! Together they discuss finding your identity in Christ when your job is about performing well, evangelizing as a professional athlete, and how sports can aid you in becoming a better Christian. Fr. Burke and Trevor also share how God led them to athletics, the story of how they met, and play a fun game with Jake and Bob at the end of the episode. Key Points: Even when our jobs demand we perform well, our core identity is as beloved children of God, not in what we do or achieve. True humility is revealed in how we respond both to success and to failure, not just in our losses. Integrating faith and sports means living out Christian values and witness in every context, not separating religious life from professional or competitive arenas. Authentic evangelization often emerges through genuine relationships, presence, and consistency of character, more than through words alone. Practice, discipline, and perseverance in sports mirror the virtues needed in the spiritual life. The tension between ambition and surrender is navigated by directing all striving and success toward God's glory rather than personal gain. Regular self-examination and reflection help transform both athletic and spiritual setbacks into opportunities for growth. Balancing vocations—such as career and family—requires intentional boundaries and prioritization of what truly matters. Resources: Grand Slam for God (or on Amazon) Fr. Davon Eldemire grew up in the hood in Bridgeport, Connecticut with no father in the picture, raised by his mom and sisters as the only boy in the house. He had a passion for basketball but eventually got consumed by the street life, giving up his dream. That path led to a robbery where he shot someone and was sentenced to 14 years in prison. In this interview, Davon opens up about what it was like growing up without a father, how the streets pulled him in, and the moment that changed everything and landed him in prison. He shares what the years behind bars taught him about life, the mindset shift that turned his sentence into an opportunity, and how he is now using his experience to mentor the youth and keep them from going down the same path. #RaisedInTheHood #PrisonStories #LockedInPodcast #StreetLife #TrueCrimePodcast #PrisonLife #RedemptionStory #lifeafterprison Thank you to BLUECHEW & PRIZEPICKS for sponsoring this episode: BlueChew: Visit https://bluechew.com/ and use promo code LOCKEDIN at checkout to get your first month of BlueChew FREE & pay five bucks for shipping. Are you exhausted from trying to do all the right things—but still feel like your family life isn't extraordinary? You're not alone. In this BS Free MD “Truth Bomb” rerun, Drs. May and Tim Hindmarsh dive into the messy realities of family planning—and not the kind you're thinking of. They reflect on seasons of life, moving away from family roots, raising kids without nearby relatives, and how family dynamics shift as generations relocate. Tim shares powerful immigrant stories about communities that once moved together as a unit, contrasting that with today's fragmented approach to family and place. Together, they wrestle with whether staying close to family builds stronger bonds—or if leaving is the best way to grow. Their takeaway? Life happens, plans change, and adaptability is key when it comes to family, home, and identity.GET SOCIAL WITH US!

Zach sits down with Greg and Rachel Denning, parents of seven, world travelers, authors, and coaches who have built a marriage around adventure and intentional living. They share how their story began with adoption, grew through unexpected pregnancies, and expanded into a lifestyle of global travel and immersion experiences for their kids. From living on a shoestring in Nicaragua with six children to now leading retreats, writing books, and running The Extraordinary Family Life Podcast, Greg and Rachel open up about the lessons they've learned through risk, resilience, and imagination. With candor and humor, they reflect on the importance of listening, navigating differences in intimacy, and approaching both marriage and travel as a hero's journey, one that transforms you with every challenge and every chapter. Key Takeaways Adventure as a family philosophy – Travel and immersion became their way to educate, bond, and expand imagination. Cycles and chapters – They've lived their marriage in 1–3 year “chapters” of babies, moves, and big shifts, embracing change as part of the design. Rock bottom became a turning point – Running out of money in Nicaragua forced them to commit fully to creating their own path forward. Focus creates reality – Greg learned that “where the head goes, the body follows”, what you focus on is what you feel and create. Listening transforms intimacy – Rachel taught Greg how to listen without fixing, which became a cornerstone of their connection. Balancing needs in sex and love – Rachel reframed physical intimacy as a reciprocal need, equal to emotional connection, deepening their bond. Marriage as a hero's journey – Just like travel, marriage is an adventure through unknowns, challenges, and transformation. In this episode of The Leader's Notebook, I explore how the Holy Spirit transforms our relationships—marriage, family, work—through one powerful principle: mutual submission. Too often, Ephesians 5:22 gets pulled out like a rulebook verse, stripped of its context. But Paul's real key is found just before it—“Submit to one another in the fear of God.” I share some humorous and real-life stories (including Braves baseball, a kitchen standoff, and a priceless vase) to show how Spirit-filled living is not about control, but about giving. Whether it's a husband laying down his desires, a wife responding with grace, a parent leading with tenderness, or an employee working with integrity, the essence is the same—choosing to outgive each other. When we live this way, the Holy Spirit fills our homes, heals our wounds, and draws us closer together. — Dr. Mark Rutland Chapters (00:00:03) - The Leaders Notebook(00:00:25) - Power of the Holy Spirit in Family Life(00:01:27) - Ephesians 5:18(00:08:54) - Wives, submit yourselves unto your husbands as unto the Lord(00:14:05) - Submission in the Bible(00:19:44) - The Appeal of Looking At Your Husband(00:22:33) - The Real Deal(00:28:28) - Give generously, not arrogantly
A recent study by the Pew Research Center shared statistics that Latter-day Saint women are top of the charts when it comes to experiencing “a deep sense of spiritual peace and well-being on a weekly basis.” We also report the “highest rate of being very happy.” To someone only paying attention to what media and popular culture might say, these statistics might be surprising. But we know why these numbers ring true: we live our faith daily and it really does bring us greater peace and happiness. Dr. Jenet Erickson, a fellow of the Wheatley Institute and a professor in the School of Family Life at Brigham Young University, recently dove into these findings and is here to share what she learned. The real stories of Latter-day Saint women are ones of peace, power, and strength that shine brighter than any viral trend. We are women of conviction who love and serve God and each other with all of our hearts.
