This week on Sent from Disneyland, we're shaking things up with a pair of vintage Disneyland postcards and a look at one of the park's most practical—and collectible—souvenirs: salt and pepper shakers. Our first postcard takes us back to July 1957, with the Santa Fe & Disneyland Railroad arriving at Main Street Station. The postcard sender braved a sweltering day at Disneyland, staying from noon until 10 p.m. Then we head to the Rivers of America in 1969 aboard the Mark Twain, before exploring two early Disneyland salt and pepper shaker sets from my collection. From characters and Main Street imagery to the Mark Twain and Columbia, these little souvenirs offer a fun glimpse into Disneyland merchandise of the 1950s and '60s. We'll also look at the history of novelty shakers and the surprising tradition behind the number of holes in the tops of salt and pepper shakers. The question is whether we let it cool the planet while it does — or keep fighting it until there's nothing left to fight with.Erica Gies is the author of Water Always Wins: Thriving in an Age of Drought and Deluge, and is currently writing her second book, Roots to Sky: How Life and Water Can Help Cool Earth's Climate, due in 2028. She is an environmental journalist who has spent more than a decade travelling the world to document how communities are rebuilding their relationship with water — not by controlling it better, but by understanding what water wants and working with it.The common climate narrative — decarbonise, bring fossil fuel emissions to zero, done — is no longer sufficient on its own. Water vapour accounts for roughly half the greenhouse effect. We've degraded 75% of the earth's land surface, largely by draining it. Pennsylvania's history reaches far beyond the founding of the United States. Long before Europeans arrived, the region was home to the Lenape, Susquehannock, Erie, and other Native peoples. Rivers such as the Delaware, Susquehanna, and Allegheny served as travel routes, hunting grounds, fishing areas, and centers of trade. Dutch, Swedish, Finnish, and English settlers later established communities in portions of the region. In 1681, King Charles II granted the land to William Penn, who planned a colony where Quakers and members of other religious groups could live with greater freedom. The colony eventually attracted German-speaking settlers, Mennonites, Amish families, Scots-Irish immigrants, Welsh Quakers, and people from many other backgrounds. Pennsylvania became the second state to ratify the United States Constitution on December 12, 1787. Its cities, farms, forests, mountains, mines, lakes, and battlefields have since produced an enormous collection of legends. Some Pennsylvania folklore grew from the dangers people faced. Sailors feared sudden storms on Lake Erie. Families remembered soldiers who never returned from war. Old burial grounds inspired stories about spirits guarding the dead. The Final River - Revelation 22:1-5 The rivers flowing out of Eden and the river flowing from the Temple in Ezekiel 47 now lead us to the river flowing from the throne of God and the Lamb in Revelation 22. This river again causes trees of healing and life to grow near it, nourishing the entire Creation eternally. Our job as Christians today is to begin that work of being life giving water to a world that needs it.

Remember how a shady Southern California water agency, the Elsinore Valley Municipal Water District, announced that it wanted to take over the Potter Valley Project on the Eel River, seemingly to thwart dam removal? We have some good news. Earlier this month, the Federal Energy Regulator Commission (FERC) denied the Elsinore Valley Municipal Water District's petition to “intervene” in their proceedings. This means that the Water District would lack “standing” to sue over the final determination by FERC. While welcome news, that doesn't mean that Elsinore is out of tricks it can play. As Rigger put it; “I started getting emails and texts from folks asking if I knew of any rivers without fishing restrictions, so I got a hold of our buddy Garrett Osler in West Yellowstone. Garrett is one of the most knowledgeable anglers in the Yellowstone area as well as across Southern Montana. We knew that Hebgen Lake down that way often has some excellent flyfishing for awesome trout and sure enough Garrett said that the fish in the lake are doing what they call “the Gulp” right now. He said there is all kinds of hatches happening, calabasas, caddis, mayflies, hoppers etc. So, there is lots of things going on in the lake and there are no fishing restrictions!” So that is great news for flyfishing anglers that want to head that way”. Now, here is where things get even better so make sure you watch or listen to this podcast because Garrett also gave a TON of great ideas that the whole family can take part in! Things like the Mountain Man Rendezvous going on in West Yellowstone which is fascinating.
