The discussion also touches on the political landscape, examining how different parties address or fail to address the needs of men today. Ultimately, the conversation seeks to understand the future of masculinity and the importance of community and support in navigating modern relationships. In this conversation, the speakers explore the evolving concept of masculinity, emphasizing the importance of social value and societal frameworks in defining what it means to be a man. They discuss the consequences of a lack of guidance for young men, the need for strong male role models, and the balance between strength and responsibility.TakeawaysThe left has largely undermined the idea of masculinity.Change is inevitable, but growth is optional.Young men often feel pressured to hold onto their youth.Human beings need something to aim for to motivate themselves.Social media influences perceptions of masculinity. There is a lack of viable role models for young men today. The Republican Party offers a traditional view of masculinity.Cultural narratives shape young men's aspirations. The absence of positive male role models creates a vacuum.Navigating modern relationships requires renegotiating traditional roles. There's an appetite for a new model of masculinity.Men must create social value to be considered valuable.Identities are socially constructed and validated.A lack of guidance can lead to self-destructive behavior in men.Men need frameworks to channel their natural capacities.Strength in men should not be feared but guided. The dynamics of masculinity change with societal safety.Men must find purpose in service to their communities.Young men should seek to solve problems in their environment.Community and individual responsibility are intertwined.Connect with Dr Dante BryantWebsite: dbryan30Instagram: a_southernmanFree eBook Here: Mastering Self-Development: Strategies of the New Masculine: https://rebrand.ly/m2ebook⚔️JOIN THE NOBLE KNIGHTS MASTERMIND⚔️https://themodernmanpodcast.com/thenobleknights

Hey mission fam! In this week's episode, 209. The Response Effect,  I'm diving deep into what I call "The Response Effect" - a powerful concept that's been on my mind lately. We're exploring how our responses to situations, mistakes, and challenges matter WAY more than the actual event itself. Whether you're a missionary, preparing to serve, or a returned missionary, this episode is all about understanding how grace, curiosity, and compassion can completely transform your experience. I'll share some personal stories - like the time a scout leader handled a situation with my son, and how my own parents' even-keeled responses shaped my understanding of love and support. We'll talk about why we often have reactive responses (spoiler: it's usually fear-based!), and how shifting to curiosity, acceptance, and unconditional love can create incredible ripple effects in our lives. Most importantly, I want you to understand that how you respond to yourself matters just as much as how you respond to others. This episode is a game-changer for anyone wanting to grow, embrace their mission experience, and learn to love themselves through every twist and turn. If you're ready to transform your perspective and create more compassionate, powerful responses in your life, this episode is for you. Let's do this!  As always, if you found this episode helpful, I want to invite you to subscribe if you aren't already, share this episode with your friends and missionaries you know, and write a review. I know this work will help LDS missionaries around the world and it would mean so much to me if you did. Jerry Takigawa is a rare kind of thinker, someone who approaches the world not just with creativity but with deep awareness, humility, and care. His work as an artist and storyteller explores what it means to carry a legacy, reframe pain into purpose, and make meaning in a world that often feels fragmented. In this episode of Design Of, Jerry shares how his Japanese American heritage, his parents' experience with internment, and his lifelong creative practice have shaped the way he see, and responds to, the world. This is a conversation for leaders, creators, and anyone navigating complexity. Jerry doesn't just talk about ideas, he embodies a way of thinking that invites reflection, connection, and change. You'll hear: + Why embracing uncertainty can lead to more authentic leadership + How silence and heritage shape our voice, and our responsibility vWhat it means to create from both logic and intuition + How storytelling, metaphor, and vulnerability unlock deeper trust + And why making space for meaning is essential to resilience and growth One of the most powerful ideas Jerry shares is this: “Your thinking is genesis, and your actions are contagious. So what is worth doing?” Whether you're building a business, guiding a team, or simply trying to live with more intention, this conversation is a meaningful invitation to pause, look closer, and move forward with greater clarity.

QFF: Quick Fire Friday – Your 20-Minute Growth Powerhouse! Welcome to Quick Fire Friday, the Grow A Small Business podcast series that is designed to deliver simple, focused and actionable insights and key takeaways in less than 20 minutes a week. Every Friday, we bring you business owners and experts who share their top strategies for growing yourself, your team and your small business. Get ready for a dose of inspiration, one action you can implement and quotable quotes that will stick with you long after the episode ends! In this episode of Quick Fire Friday, host Michael Denehey interviews Joey Coleman, Chief Experience Composer at Design Symphony, shares insights on how business owners can design their first 100 days to foster momentum, clarity, and joy. He highlights the value of taking extended breaks, recommending at least two weeks to recharge and prevent burnout. Advocating for personal growth, Coleman encourages reading fiction and scheduling time for self-care to prioritize well-being. Additionally, he emphasizes celebrating achievements and maintaining a balance between work and personal life as key strategies for sustaining long-term success. Key Takeaways for Small Business Owners: Design Your Own First 100 Days: Apply the same strategic thinking you use for customers and employees to yourself—plan your first 100 days of any new business phase with intention and clarity. Take True Time Off to Reset: Even a 10+ day break (ideally more) away from work and tech can dramatically reset your energy, creativity, and focus. You're not just resting—you're recharging your leadership capacity. Celebrate Small Wins Regularly: Don't wait for big milestones to celebrate—acknowledge small victories to boost motivation and prevent burnout. Even a solo movie or walk can be a powerful reward. Our hero crafts outstanding reviews following the experience of listening to our special guests. Are you the one we've been waiting for? Grow Yourself, Not Just the Business: Set personal growth goals with the same focus you give business metrics. A stronger, wiser version of you is needed to lead the next stage of your company. Protect Appointments with Yourself: Treat time with yourself as sacred. If you wouldn't cancel a client meeting, don't cancel on yourself. Your well-being directly impacts your business health. Rediscover Joy Through Non-Business Activities: Read fiction, take a dance class, explore hobbies—doing things that have no direct business ROI can reignite creativity and emotional resilience. One action small business owners can take:  According to Joey Coleman, one action a small business owner should take is a 10-day (or longer) true break from work—completely unplugged from emails, calls, and business tasks—to reset, gain clarity, and return with renewed energy. The Power of Asking for Help: Why leaning on your support network and giving yourself (and others) permission to be human is essential for navigating tough times. Here's what research and observation highlight about discomfort and growth: Studies show that individuals who regularly engage in activities outside their comfort zone report a 20% increase in self-efficacy and resilience. Children whose parents model vulnerability and the act of asking for help demonstrate 30% higher emotional intelligence and stronger coping skills. She discusses the importance of community, facing fears, and the pivotal moments that led her to pursue her passion full-time. Judith emphasizes the significance of purpose in creative work and how passion projects can reignite momentum. She also highlights the need for connection and support in the creative industry, encouraging others to bet on themselves and follow their dreams. Judith Hill is a Nashville-based portrait photographer and the founder of Judith Hill Photography. With over 13 years of experience in photography—including 8 years running her business full-time—Judith is known for her ability to empower clients through intimate, meaningful portrait sessions. Her work focuses on helping women rediscover their value and confidence, particularly through projects like her "40 Over 40" campaign. Passionate about purpose-driven creativity, Judith is also launching Judith Hill Academy to coach other creatives in building profitable, fulfilling businesses. Top 3 Key Takeaways 1. Purpose Drives Creative Success Judith emphasizes the importance of being deeply rooted in purpose. Knowing your "why" helps you navigate fear, make aligned decisions, and create work that truly resonates—with yourself and others. 2. Embrace the Pivot (and the Fear That Comes With It) Making a major career change is daunting, but Judith shares that fear is usually a biological response to the unknown. Success comes from acknowledging that fear, betting on yourself, and understanding that creativity often means continually reinventing your identity and business. 3. Community Over Competition Building a supportive community, and seeking mentorship, is crucial for creative growth. Isolation can stifle creativity, whereas community helps you stay motivated, share wisdom, and overcome challenges together. Ever wonder how you'll ever stop people-pleasing and say yes to yourself instead? This episode is for you! Set small boundaries first. Start with low-stakes situations to practice saying no or expressing your preferences. For example, choosing the restaurant when asked, or declining a small favor when you're genuinely busy. These smaller moments build your confidence for bigger boundary-setting situations.Pause before automatically agreeing. When someone asks something of you, try responding with "Let me check my schedule and get back to you" or "I need to think about that." This brief delay gives you space to consider what you actually want to do rather than reflexively saying yes to avoid disappointing someone.Remember that disappointment isn't dangerous. People-pleasers often fear others' negative reactions, but someone being temporarily disappointed or mildly upset doesn't mean you've done something wrong or that the relationship is in jeopardy. Most healthy relationships can handle occasional "no" responses, and those that can't may need reevaluation.Notice your internal warning signs. Pay attention to feelings of resentment, exhaustion, or anxiety that often accompany over-committing. These emotions are signals that you're stretching yourself too thin to accommodate others. When you catch these feelings early, you can course-correct before burning out.Practice stating your needs directly. Instead of hinting or hoping others will guess what you want, try expressing yourself clearly. Say "I'd prefer to meet at 2 PM" rather than "Whatever time works for you is fine." Direct communication often leads to better outcomes and reduces the mental energy spent on trying to read between the lines. The key is building these skills gradually. People-pleasing patterns developed over time, so changing them takes patience and consistent practice. Some resources for you:Want to see how you score as a confident communicator? Take The Confidence Cocktail Assessment: https://karenlaos.com/confidence-cocktail-fb/Project more confidence and credibility with my free tips: 9 Words to Avoid & What to Say Instead: https://karenlaos.lpages.co/words-to-avoid/My book “Trust Your Own Voice”: https://karenlaos.com/book/Episodes also available on YouTube:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCEwQoTGdJX5eME0ccBKiKng/videos Karen Laos, Communication Expert and Confidence Cultivator, leverages 25 years in the boardroom and speaking on the world's most coveted stages such as Google and NASA to transform missed opportunities into wins. Send us a text Dr. Holly Catterton Allen reveals that spirituality is crucial to childhood resilience. She explains that children are born as spiritual beings with an inherent capacity for deep relationships with self, others, and God. She challenges traditional approaches to children's faith formation by emphasizing contemplative practices and "wondering questions" instead of formulaic answers.• Children are born spiritual beings, not just physical, emotional, and intellectual ones.• Spirituality encompasses three essential relationships: with self, others, and God.• Research shows spirituality ranks as a key protective factor in childhood resilience.• Creating space for questions without immediate answers builds authentic spiritual growth.• Simple practices like asking "Who are you in the story?" can open meaningful spiritual conversations.• Children don't need all protective factors to be resilient if they have a meaningful connection to God.• Knowing God as present, understanding, and healing provides "the most powerful resilience armor."Try asking the children in your life open-ended "wondering questions" this week, and see how it enriches your conversations and deepens your connections.Visit Dr. Holly Catterton Allen here: InterGenerate ConferenceOrder "Forming Resilient Children."Support the showBegin Your Heartlifter's Journey: Visit and subscribe to Heartlift Central on Substack. Actually, it's necessary. If you've ever downplayed your success, brushed off compliments, or felt awkward about sharing your win, then this one's for you. I share how societal conditioning (and a few saboteurs like the Judge and Pleaser) can mute your confidence and keep you from acknowledging the amazing things you've done. Come on! We want to know! We'll explore the difference between self-assuredness and ego, and why authentic self-celebration is a service. One that is not just to yourself, but to those watching you lead. You'll get practical tools like how to keep an achievement journal, build a “brag buddy” system, and start owning your growth without second-guessing it. If you're ready to replace perfectionism with self-respect and finally embrace the power of your own story, listen in.
