Simplify your wellness by focusing on what works for you and limiting the experts you follow to avoid confusion and decision fatigue. Our bodies are wired to respond to stress as a survival mechanism, but modern-day stressors—like emails and phone notifications—trigger the same physiological response as life-threatening situations. This prolonged fight-or-flight state shuts down essential functions like digestion, immune response, and detoxification, contributing to long-term health issues.Simple actions like deep breathing before meals, movement, quality nutrition, fresh air, and social connection can help regulate stress and improve overall well-being. Prioritizing sleep and establishing consistent routines further support mental and physical health.Supplements can be a powerful tool to add on, but they cannot take the place of other healthy lifestyle choices.QUOTES: (07:48) “No expert knows your body better than you do. It can feel frustrating when you're doing everything right, and you hit a plateau.  Hot flashes, weight gain, and energy issues are massive symptoms.  Menopause is natural. However, suffering is optional.  In a quick window of time, we can feel improvements and feel empowered.  [07:10] The Importance of Maintaining Healthy Ovarian Function   We can restore and keep healthy ovarian function by looking at hormone disrupters and clearing them from our bodies. Plus, we should support the liver and detoxification.  Healthy habits will allow us to have our menstrual cycles for longer - it's a longevity marker. One of the risk factors for diabetes and pre-diabetes is menopause. A higher risk factor is if you've had a hysterectomy. Thirdly, if you've had your ovaries removed, you have a significantly higher risk of diabetes. If you had your ovaries removed, even before 65, your risk of cardiovascular disease is almost double.  The association with diabetes tells how important it is to maintain healthy ovarian function.  [09:10] Why Women Need More Ketones Between The Ages of 35 and 55  During ages 35 - 55, the use of glucose in a women's brain significantly decreases.  Instead, you shift to using ketones for fuel in the brain. Dr. Cabeca emphasizes the importance of greens. Depending on your symptoms, you have to pause greens, or you may have to pause meat.  Sometimes we need to challenge our gut bacteria, and sometimes, we have to support digestive enzymes. It depends on your unique needs.  [14:15] Why You May Want To Consider Using A Progesterone Cream  Dr. Anna Cabeca is a massive fan of progesterone.  There are progesterone receptors in our brain, bones, and breasts. Progesterone supports healthy breast tissue.  Plus, progesterone will support healthy metabolism and healthy neuroendocrine function.  Dr. Cabeca has used progesterone in men for anxiety and insomnia; it is a total game-changer.  Oral progesterone is excellent if you are working on sleep.  Check out Balance if you're looking for a progesterone cream: https://drannacabeca.com/products/pura-balance-ppr-cream. [22:40] Gratitude and Positive Thinking Can Make You Happier  You have to pause negative thinking.  Negative thoughts will predominate our lives if we allow them to.  Try gratitude and praying.  There is always something to be grateful for.  Gratitude is so easy to do, making it easy not to do.  People have 60,000 thoughts per day - most of them are negative. It's time to pause and think about gratitude.  [28:45] Using Mighty Maca To Alkalize The Body and Balance Hormones  Ideally, we're working on restoring our natural ovarian production or natural adrenal production. When Dr. Cabeca looks at fertility, she will look at a 21-day progesterone level.  Mighty Maca is something Dr.Cabeca recommends for adrenal support.  One of Dr. Cabeca's clients used Mighty Maca to fix her progesterone levels and finally get pregnant. Get Mighty Maca here: https://drannacabeca.com/products/mighty-maca [33:10] Unique Plans To Break Through Your Weight Loss Plateau  If you hit a plateau, it's time to pause and try something new. There are five different six-day menu plans.  The gut mucosa regenerates every 72 hours. So a six-day plan will give you two 72 hour cycles.  Here are some of the menu plans: Pausing nightshades Plant-based menu Carnivore menu A cleanse with a gallbladder liver flush Adding healthy carbs AND MUCH MORE! Gina is passionate about all thing's health and wellness which includes moving often and  well.  She believes movement is one of the most powerful medicines we have and by bridging a mind-body connection through finding strength in movement we can therefore balance physical, emotional, and mental well-being. Gina holds a Bachelor of Science degree in physiotherapy from the University of Alberta (2005), in addition to one in Kinesiology from the University of Lethbridge (2000).  Gina focuses on sports therapy, postural and repetitive strain injuries; as well as provides foundational preventative health support for general population looking to change aspects of their life, they may not have thought was possible. She is the founder of Restorative Sports Therapy, a multi-disciplinary health clinic in the Foothills that focuses on bridging collaborative health care between allied health professionals for a true client centered practice. Gina also consults out in the community and provides clinical and professional practice leadership, movement education, and mindset practices. She provides coaching, mentoring and work planning to support various health professionals in their practice.  She also runs various movement and mobility workshops to educate both health professionals, coaches, and athletes on the recognition of mobility and stability issues and how it can alter sport or training performance. Gina is highly disciplined and knows that consistent work and dedication are keys to success. She also values life-long learning and believes a consistent mindset practice can help anyone level up in their life. Her Why:Restorative is more than just physiotherapy.  It started off with a vision to slow down and take more time for people and to meet people where they are at. I've worked for many years in a busy sports practice where you see a patient every 15 minutes.  I understand and get the business/ healthcare model of why it exists and why it did exist for me. I learned a lot and was able to really practice my craft. After 13 years of that style of practice, I think I was looking for something more. I was lucky (along with a lot of hard work, support, and determination) to have had the opportunity to create a space that is built on connection and time, and you feel it as soon as you walk through the Restorative doors.Like anything else, I feel physiotherapy should evolve. What that looked like for me was creating a team that was built on service, knowledge, innovation, and having practitioners who were living their passion and working their passion.  This is what they were meant to do. If you've met our team, you will know they are all like minded and are driven to help and support people in finding true wealth in health- something we call the Restorative Lifestyle.  Placing the importance on moving daily, getting good nutrition, and taking care of yourself so you can live your healthiest life on a physical, mental and emotional level until it becomes a daily practice. Our goal is to empower people to build the best foundation to overall health they could have by mastering the basics.Links:Web:  Restorative Sports TherapyIG:  @restorativesportstherapy.comFB:  Restorative Sports Therapy | Foothills AB | FacebookConnect and tag me at:https://www.instagram.com/realangelabradford/You can subscribe to my YouTube Channel herehttps://www.youtube.com/channel/UCDU9L55higX03TQgq1IT_qQFeel free to leave a review on all major platforms to help get the word out and change more lives!

“When I talk about family history, I tell people to look at the people in their family. See what it is that bothers them. Why is that important? You contain somewhere between 40 to 70% of the genetic material of each of your parents. And it'll be in a different mixture based on the way the good Lord wanted it to come out. But if both of your parents have high blood pressure, and both of your parents have high cholesterol, and both of your parents have had strokes at an early age, and you do the same things that they did, such as eat lots of cholesterol, fried foods, smoke cigarettes, you're probably going to have a stroke as well,” explains Dr. David Chatman. Dr. David Chatman is currently the Medical Director of Focused Claims Review in Vascular and Endovascular Surgery at Optum Health Care following a successful career as vascular surgeon. He talks with host D-Rich about the importance of communicating and understanding your family medical history. They are joined by Dr. Allison Matthews, Executive Director and Research Fellow in Faith and Health, to discuss the stigma surrounding HIV in the Black community.    Historically, the Black community and Black churches have not been very accepting of the LGBTQ community and as such there is a large stigma surrounding HIV. People prefer to act like HIV does not exist and to stay silent. This leads to HIV-positive Black and Brown individuals being uncomfortable with seeking care or even just speaking with their families about their experiences. Talking about HIV status is not the only medical issue that the Black community struggles with. Many adults prefer not to talk about any of their health concerns or medical history with others, even their own children. It is vital that we normalize having these discussions in an understanding and compassionate way because knowing your family medical history could be the difference between life and death in many cases.   It can be difficult to have conversations about medical concerns. Many people delay going to the doctor because they would rather not know something is wrong. By working to remove the stigma surrounding medical conditions, we can make it easier for people to choose to seek out care.    Quotes • “Nationally we don't really have a lot of faith based initiatives around HIV, because of the stigma. A lot of people don't agree with homosexuality in the Black community and in Black churches in particular. Unfortunately, churches have been one of the main sources of stigma around HIV. We were founded in 2021 to coordinate efforts to put money into faith based organizations that are committed to addressing HIV stigma in a responsible and compassionate way.” (5:21-6:02 | Dr. Allison) • “The common thread through faith communities and our families is silence. I think a big reason why HIV has so much stigma is because we like to sweep things under the rug and act like things never happen. But our silence is what's killing us.” (18:44-19:08 | Dr. Allison)  • “The thing that I like to share with the community and people who tend to be in what I call pockets of ignorance is information that's readily available to people who are in higher socioeconomic status, etc. And I like to say that these are situations that we need to talk to each other about. We need to educate each other about in order to fill these gaps.” (37:05-37:39 | Dr. David) • “When I talk about family history, I tell people, look at the people in your family. See what it is that bothers them. Why is that important? You contain somewhere between 40 to 70% of the genetic material of each of your parents. And it'll be in a different mixture based on the way the good Lord wanted it to come out. Or was it something more nefarious? In this episode, you’ll learn about this horribly tragic case from someone who lives in the neighborhood. In this episode, you’ll learn amazing “fun nuggets” that will boost your health and longevity AND get some great tips on writing a book that can build a community to create positive change. Now that is what I call a fun legacy! My guest is Dr. Anna Cabeca, author of The Hormone Fix and the upcoming Keto Green 16. Here are the episode’s “fun nuggets” regarding health and longevity: #1: Healthy hormones are not just about estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone. The master controls are 1) insulin, 2) cortisol, and 3) oxytocin. For an oxytocin hit, try the following: puppy love, kitten love (think any baby animal or snuggly baby in general) laughter, play, intimacy, dancing...the list goes on! #2: Hormones are also critical to our mental clarity (important for writing a book or any focused endeavor) #3: We are (especially women) especially neuro-endocrine vulnerable between the ages of 35 to 55. #4: Memory and mood are strongly impacted by fuel source (the options are either glucose or ketones for the brain; having some ketones as fuel can be excellent for the brain) Here are the “fun nuggets related to the writing and publishing journey: #1: A book can start and build a community (and create a movement) #2: A traditionally published book such as Dr. Anna’s starts with an agent that truly believes in the work, and then moves into the proposal and finally writing stages #3: For writing efficiency, Dr. Anna recommends focus, fasting and an accountability partner #4: For the editing process, be ready to “let go” of much of your content, as the magic can happen in the pruning process (Dr. Anna referred to it as “slash and burn”). In this episode, Gordon speaks with Lindsey Davis about tapping into niches and how therapists can utilize the help of a dietitian. Lindsey explains in what situations would a therapist want to refer to a dietitian and how the two can work together to assist their clients. We also learn the steps a dietician would take to help their clients and then we hear Lindsey's thoughts on fad diets. Later, Gordon gives Lindsey some advice on her web presence and suggests blogging as frequently as possible to assist with search engine optimization. Meet Lindsey Davis Lindsey Davis is a Registered Dietitian and owner of Restorative Health, a nutritional counseling business aimed at transforming a client's diet and lifestyle by helping them embrace a BALANCED view of health and eliminate any weight-related fear, guilt or shame. Lindsey believes that all foods can fit into your meal plan and health-related goals are met by setting a series of small, measurable, realistic goals. She has worked clinically for 6 years and is well versed in chronic disease treatment as well as weight management. She loves the counseling environment as it allows her to develop a relationship with her clients and walk through a season of life with them. She strives to help her clients develop a positive body image while providing education and support to meet their personal, individualized goals. Dietitian Referrals Lindsey reached out to Gordon to educate others on when the therapy community should refer to a dietitian. For instance, people with eating disorders and disordered eating will benefit from having a registered dietitian. The dietitian can walk through with the client how to have a balanced lifestyle with their food choices. Therapists have clients with eating disorders and do not know how to address the food aspect without a dietitian. Lindsey would refer a client immediately the second you know they have an eating disorder so the dietitian and therapist can start working together. Normal Eating Lindsey's work is very individualized because eating disorders are not universal. Typically, Lindsey tries and nail down the negative thought that is running through her client's head. The dietitian would then challenge the thinking and find one that would reflect the truth. Many clients suggest they want to eat like a reasonable person, so Lindsey uses a resource from the Ellen Satter Institute as to what constitutes normal eating. Then, the client will pick which aspects of normal consumption to challenge them the most and Lindsey will work them one at a time with her clients. Fad Diets The reason Lindsey is so passionate about starting her private practice is because of her personal philosophy. Her philosophy is that all foods fit; she does not believe in excluding or restricting entire food groups unless a medical diagnosis requires it. Eating is about moderation and portion size; Lindsey wants to teach others to live a balanced and healthy lifestyle. People go out to eat, go on road trips, and come into contact with fast food. It is essential to learn how to navigate these situations without any fear or guilt. Specialty Pages Specialty pages are useful for SEO and online marketing. For instance, a specialty page will have one page devoted to binge eating and having one page dedicated to weight loss. These pages do not need to be lengthy, but it can be a subset of the services page. The reason for separate pages is that when people search the web for a particular problem, they will type their specific need. If you have addressed this particular need on your webpage, you will be the site that comes up first on Google. Gordon also suggests stepping blogging up to a few times a month if not once a week. Relevant content is essential for search engine optimization. If anyone can connect the dots on women’s health, it’s today’s guest. Dr. Anna Cabeca is a triple-board certified doctor of gynecology and obstetrics who specializes in integrative medicine, anti-aging, and regenerative medicine. When she saw gaps in women’s health care she made it her life’s work to create several highly acclaimed programs with natural solutions for women: Women’s Restorative Health, Sexual CPR, and Magic Menopause.
