Kraus—who won the 2026 Pulitzer Prize in Fiction for his novel Angel Down—developed the story for the film The Shape of Water and co-wrote the novel with Guillermo del Toro. Kraus also recently adapted his hit novel Whalefall into a feature film coming out this October from 20th Century Fox. Orlean—whose book The Orchid Thief lead to the creation of the film Adaptation—is currently at work adapting her bestselling nonfiction book The Library Book for television. This program was part of the 2026 American Writers Festival. Co-hosted by the American Writers Museum and Chicago Public Library, the American Writers Festival is a free literary event featuring in-depth conversations with diverse writers from across genres and backgrounds. Michael KostroffTake a walk with me down Fascination Street as I get to know Michael Kostroff. Michael has been a working actor for several decades and is well known for several roles. In this episode, we chat about some of those roles, some of those shows, and he shares experiences from them. We talk about his breakout role on 'The Wire', his stints as Max Bialystok in SEVEN separate touring productions of the smash hit 'The Producers', and some of his other prominent roles. David Lynch's Wild at Heart  This week we return to a World of Dreams and the Land of Oz through the dark and chaotic eyes of David Lynch (January 20, 1946 - January 16, 2025). A Homage/Love Letter to the classic MGM masterpiece, Lynch's 1990 Wild at Heart is a pulsating cinematic shotgun blast. The story of young lovers breaking parole and crossing the country to find a future that is never clear, Lynch's dark romantic comedy is unlike anything seen before, but inspiring to cinema for decades after. With allusions to Fleming's 1939 Technicolor Classic, as well as nods to Elvis, Americana, and the great tradition of cinematic road trips, Wild at Heart cannot be adequately described, it can only be experienced. This week Mr. Chavez & I describe our relationship to this film (his history with it and my first viewing nearly a decade ago). We discuss our history (and dismissa - minel) of Lynch followed by the embracing of this great American filmmaker (also mine). With particular attention paid to the over the top brilliance of all involved in front of the camera, including: Nicolas Cage, Laura Dern, Diane Ladd, Harry Dean Stanton, Isabella Rosellini, J.E.
