Trevor McCandless is the Founder and Chief Entrepreneurial Officer at Fusion CPA, a boutique financial advisory firm specializing in tax planning, accounting, and business advisory services for growth-minded entrepreneurs. Under his leadership, Fusion CPA has grown into a dozen-CPA powerhouse, delivering tailored financial strategies through its proven three-step framework — Stabilization, Strategy, and Scaling. Trevor holds a bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Florida and a master's in taxation from Georgia State University. He is a strong advocate for leveraging technology (NetSuite, QuickBooks, AI tools) and the EOS methodology to streamline operations and build high-performing finance functions. In this episode… What if your tax strategy could be so effective that it allowed you to live on a tropical island while building a thriving business? Most people assume financial freedom and lifestyle flexibility are years away — if they're possible at all. But what if the right planning, mindset, and tax approach could make that dream a reality? Trevor McCandless, a CPA and tax strategist, shares how he transformed his childhood lessons, relentless curiosity, and financial savvy into a dynamic career that combines entrepreneurship with lifestyle design. Trevor highlights the value of strategic “laziness,” advocating for hard work early in life to enjoy greater freedom later. He emphasizes building financial resilience, avoiding unnecessary debt, and prioritizing clarity in family-business relationships. His journey — from selling pens in elementary school to launching multiple businesses and relocating to Puerto Rico for tax advantages — offers a blueprint for others looking to structure a life-first business model. Tune in to this episode of the Smart Business Revolution Podcast as John Corcoran interviews Trevor McCandless, Founder and Chief Entrepreneurial Officer at Fusion CPA, about how to minimize taxes, build lasting businesses, and design a meaningful life. Trevor also shares why he moved to Puerto Rico, how he handled burnout during COVID-19, and why he's now championing family-run businesses in his upcoming book.

This lecture discusses key ideas from the ancient Middle Platonist philosopher and biographer Plutarch's essay On Awareness Of Progress In Virtue This episode focuses specifically on his short but rich discussion about how we can tell whether or not we are making progress by looking at the contents of our dreams (or at what we perceive when we are ill). If we have not genuinely succeeded in making the virtues into habits, our dream lives are likely to reflect unvirtuous desires that we have been keeping in check in our waking lives. In this bedtime story, Bernice wakes up unsure if she's still dreaming—after all, her dreams were very silly! "I know there's a lot of benefits to automation, but when it came to [outreach], I felt it was very important for me to send personalized emails to each person in my network to tell them what I was doing and ask if I could help."If you've ever considered leaving a stable corporate career to pursue something more meaningful, Tania Will Jeppesen's story is essential listening. On this week's episode of The Speaker Lab podcast, host Grant Baldwin sits down with Tania—a former operations and HR leader who took the leap from a secure job and steady paycheck to launch her own consulting business, “The Prepared Leader.” It's an episode full of practical advice and heartfelt honesty for anyone wrestling with the tension between comfort and calling. After nearly two decades in the trenches of supply chain and operations, Tania recognized a gap: frontline managers were often overlooked in leadership development. Driven by a blend of professional experience, a supportive family, and her own faith, she finally acted on a decade-old dream. Tania brings listeners behind the scenes of that decision—sharing candidly about the fears of risk, being the main earner, and modeling courage for her daughters. What makes Tania's journey so relatable is her willingness to focus on what she can control: hard work, authenticity, and showing up for others. Rather than trying to appeal to everyone, she leans into her unique strengths, guided by a clear framework and her deep understanding of her niche. Through every challenge, she keeps her priorities in check—aiming for both business impact and quality time at home.Whether you're dreaming of your own entrepreneurial leap or just searching for courage to act, Tania's story is a timely reminder that the most meaningful success is building a life (and business) that's truly yours. You'll learn:Weighing risk aversion against entrepreneurship dreamsDecision-making and positive-outcome mindsetsHelping organizations level up frontline leadersConsulting as a viable career-pathInitial networking stepsIncorporating family into the entrepreneurial journeyMarket validation through direct-network outreachLeveraging industry knowledgeAnd much, much more!"I really wanted to go into [consulting] with a mindset of not what's the worst that could happen, but what's the best that could happen if I do this?"Episode ResourcesTania's WebsiteGet Free Speaker ResourcesBook a Call with The Speaker LabCalculate Your Speaking FeeJoin The Speaker Lab Community on FacebookSubscribe on Apple PodcastsSubscribe on SpotifySee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Welcome to a very special episode of All the Feelings, brought to you by REM sleep, tennis elbow, and the visceral horror of trying to put on socks like you're still in your 30s.This week, Pete and Tommy are pulling a two-for-one special: first, they dive into the dreamscape of adult anxiety—why our nighttime brains love to drop us in college final exams we never studied for and why Tommy keeps losing his car in a parking garage that exists only in the astral plane. Then, they shift to the nighttime betrayals of the body: the mysterious transformation from human being to fragile pile of orthopedic complaints, where simply “sleeping” can result in injuries typically reserved for Olympic gymnastics.Along the way, we get hot tips from Tommy's therapist (shout-out to Bonnie!), dream science from the BBC, and Pete's personal musculoskeletal origin story—which involves surprise vertebra fusion, leg-length inequality, and an orthotic insert named Steve. There's also a powerful case made for the humble foam roller, a pony running off with Tommy's Mazda, and a rare Greek myth about moon-gazing lovers that ends, predictably, in a curse. If you've ever woken up more injured than you were when you went to bed, if you've ever texted your group chat just to be out-sympathied by someone who dislocated their shoulder sneezing, or if you've ever been haunted by the ghost of your own plantar fascia, this one's for you.Support the show at allthefeelings.fun and become a Feeling Friend today—for early episodes, bonus content, and a front-row seat to Pete's ever-expanding sneaker collection.

Once again, lessons pop up when I need them and it's also connected to the fact that I still need to learn (or relearn) these important lessons again. Remember - Lesson repeated, until lesson learned. This teachable moment comes from Reads with Ravi (@readswithravi) “Bigger dreams call for healthier habits and healthier habits require more self discipline.” The reason this spoke right to me was that I was just thinking about this last night. Telling myself (instead of listening to myself), that I needed to get back on track with my habits and that I know I need to tighten up the “self discipline belt” a little bit. Get back to intentionally focusing on the things that I know I need to do and then put the action behind actually doing it!! In fact I will be doing that right after this gets uploaded. Brandon Tierney unleashes a scorching critique of the current Mets lineup, emphatically declaring it far from World Series ready. He dissects the team's offensive struggles, particularly the inconsistent top of the order and the lack of reliable production, arguing that GM David Stearns is making a "massive mistake" if he truly believes the current roster can contend. Tierney's fiery take highlights the stark reality that despite high payroll and talent, the Mets' bats are simply not good enough to secure a championship, urging immediate action before the trade deadline.

In this special episode of Digging Up the Underground, we sit down with Rachel Harney, the powerhouse vocalist and guitarist behind the rising UK alt-rock band Danama. From forming via a Facebook post in 2021 to dropping their bold, emotionally-charged debut album Did You Know?, Danama has emerged as a voice for the unheard—combining indie, pop, and punk rock with deeply personal storytelling about mental health, identity, and empowerment. Rachel opens up about the origin of the band's name, the journey to self-producing their debut under Epictronic Records, and how they bring both high energy and raw vulnerability to the stage. We dive into their creative process, standout tracks like “The Devil in Me” and “On My Skin,” and what it means to lead a female-fronted rock act in today's evolving music scene. This is more than a conversation—it's a deep exploration of music made for those battling their inner critic and ready to scream back.
Today's episode is deeply personal. I'm honored to introduce my oldest son, Mike Nicholson, known as Digital Tapestry. At 16, Mike was in a near-fatal car crash. That accident changed everything. He walked away with a halo on his head, but the dream was put on hold. What could have broken him instead ignited something powerful. Mike turned to music and fitness as healing tools, writing songs that come from the most honest, vulnerable places. His journey from trauma to transformation is inspiring. Today, Mike is a finalist in America's Top Hitmaker competition. He's one step away from performing on the same stage as Post Malone, being featured in Rolling Stone, and winning $50,000. This isn't just a story about music; it's about resilience, redemption, and the dream that refused to die. Kelly is the oldest of three siblings. Her own birth was a hospital induction—an experience that led her mother to choose home birth for her subsequent children. The intergenerational thread of trauma from Kelly's birth carried forward into her own experiences with childbirth. With her first two children, she faced intense postpartum periods, and separation from her babies. The birth of Kelly's third child, however, was a transformative home birth. This healing experience not only helped her process the trauma of her previous births but also reached back a generation, bringing healing to her own birth story as well. We all know that dreams can galvanize your creativity. Today in this replay of a popular show from almost two years ago, we speak with Donna Glee Williams, PhD, who has published three dream-inspired fantasy novels which seek to reimagine the hero’s journey. Her latest book is called The Night Field. We also play music by Lynn Morgan Rosser. Donna Glee describes her 17 year mentorship with Jeremy Taylor which began as an exploration of an ongoing dream theme of difficulty getting to water. She also speaks of dreams that are gifts for others and shares that she recently wrote a story based on another’s dream. When published it will have the dreamer as co-author. She describes using dreams to inspire creativity by starting with the question, “If you were to do something to honor this dream, what would it be?” She then speaks about how her books embody a new kind of Hero's Journey more appropriate for a post-patriarchal world than the traditional Joseph Campbell formulation, a new paradigm that gets away from individualism and invites co-heroes. After the break we take a call from John of Santa Cruz who describes research showing that people who play music access different portions of their brain than those who don’t. Our engineer and music-creator Rick adds that music is a high-bandwidth form of transmitting nonverbal information. We then take a call from Lynn Rosser of Asheville of North Carolina who has created music to go with Donna Glee’s new novel. We play part of the piece called Bridges. You can find Lynn at LynnMorganRosser.com and on Spotify and other platforms. Donna Glee suggests that listeners go to ko-fi.com/lynnmorganrosser to support her. We then talking about using fantasy to address real-world issues including addressing problems with pesticides which are portrayed, but never explicitly mentioned, in The Night Field which emerged from her work with the Eco Tipping Points Project which can be found at EcoTippingPoints.org. Donna Glee ends by reading the opening paragraphs from her new novel. BIO: When I first met Jeremy Taylor, I was already a writer but—other than my doctoral dissertation—I'd never written in any long form. During my 17 years of dreamwork with him, I wrote three novels seeded by dreams. His fingerprints are particularly bright on my latest, The Night Field. The 1% in Recovery Successful Gamblers & Alcoholics Stopping Addiction
Text and Be HeardFrom rock bottom to keynote speaker, Ron's remarkable 32-year sobriety journey reveals the transformative power of recovery when proper foundations are laid. After treatment at Carrier Foundation, Ron followed crucial advice that changed everything: attending a meeting his very first day out and never leaving without knowing when his next meeting would be.The magic of recovery lies not just in the program but in human connection. When Ron nervously attended his first meeting, he wasn't bombarded with recovery talk—instead, a member named Jimmy simply chatted with him about the New York Rangers. This moment of normalcy became a lifeline, creating a sense of belonging that's still strong decades later. Through small steps like coffee commitments and gradually sharing his experience, Ron rebuilt his shattered self-esteem, transforming from someone who "couldn't hold a job" into a successful leadership trainer running his own company for over 20 years. What makes Ron's story so powerful is how recovery delivered on its promises. Dreams that seemed impossible during active addiction became beautiful realities—becoming a leadership trainer after admiring his ex-wife's career from the sidelines, enjoying 30 seasons as a Giants ticket holder, and experiencing the majesty of an African sunset with his wife. Standing on stage as a keynote speaker, Ron had a profound realization: none of these achievements would have happened without sobriety. His journey reminds us that recovery isn't just about stopping destructive behaviors—it's about creating a life so rich with meaning that returning to addiction loses all appeal. As Ron said while watching an African sunset with his wife: "It doesn't get better than this."Support the showRecovery is Beautiful. Priyanka Chopra is an award-winning actor, producer, and humanitarian—and one of the most recognizable faces in the world. In this 2021 conversation, she reflects on her memoir Unfinished, sharing her journey from India to the U.S. and the lessons she's learned about identity, ambition, and reinvention. Priyanka talks about the power of perseverance, trusting your instincts, and embracing failure as part of success. She reminds us that it's never too late to start again—and you're always allowed to say yes to your dreams. Thought-provoking Quotes: “There is something profoundly wonderful about blooming a little later in your story. It's never too late. Everything you've done is a foundation for what you'll do next. It might not come up for a couple of years, but you will find out eventually, that made my life richer. This made my skillset better. Like nothing is ever wasted if you're doing something you're passionate about.” – Jen Hatmaker “I am at a much more confident place that the insecurities of my past don't affect me anymore.” – Priyanka Chopra “Anything is a possibility. You can make a career out of anything. When I was growing up, there were like five career options – you could become a doctor, or an engineer, or a lawyer, or an accountant… But now, it's endless. It's such a great time for all of us with ambition and desire, no matter where you are, or what your circumstances are, to invest in your dreams.” – Priyanka Chopra Jonas “My feminism is equal-opportunity, the freedom to make the choices I want to make for my individual life, just the way men have enjoyed for such a long time. That's why its so important for us as women to talk about and normalize ambition for girls.” – Priyanka Chopra Jonas “I truly believe that today is my investment for tomorrow. I hope with all of the decisions that I'm taking now, and will take in the next ten years, the girl I am at that time will be happy. That's really my quest in my life, is the pursuit of happiness. I feel joy in my job, I feel joy in home, I feel joy in my family. I feel joy in being able to create. And I just look at it as, if you're not happy, don't do it. Step away from it.” – Priyanka Chopra Jonas Resources Mentioned in This Episode: Ambition is a Girl's Best Friend: Priyanka Chopra on Reconnecting with Our Dreams - https://jenhatmaker.com/podcasts/series-32/ambition-is-a-girls-best-friend-priyanka-chopra-jonas-on-reconnecting-with-our-dreams/ Unfinished by Priyanka Chopra Jonas - https://amzn.to/2Zf5ps8 73 Questions with Priyanka Chopra, Vogue - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dOUV2rwMr1g Priyanka Chopra on the For the Love podcast (Youtube) - https://youtu.be/G1k83Tx6U34 It's Okay To Be a Late Bloomer: Forbes Magazine's Rich Karlgaard - https://jenhatmaker.com/podcasts/series-17/its-okay-to-be-a-late-bloomer-forbes-magazines-rich-karlgaard/ Late Bloomers: The Power of Patience in a World Obsessed with Early Achievement by Rich Karlgaard - https://amzn.to/4kvW1IC Miss World 2000 - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miss_World_2000 Guest's Links: Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/priyankachopra/ Twitter - https://x.com/priyankachopra Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/priyankachopra Youtube - https://www.youtube.com/user/PriyankaChopraLive TikTok - https://www.tiktok.com/@priyankachopra.fp Connect with Jen!Jen's Website - https://jenhatmaker.com/ Jen's Instagram - https://instagram.com/jenhatmakerJen's Twitter - https://twitter.com/jenHatmaker/ Jen's Facebook - https://facebook.com/jenhatmakerJen's YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/user/JenHatmaker The For the Love Podcast is presented by Audacy. #626: A software programmer and an accountant walk into retirement planning. Are they being creative? Dr. Zorana Ivcevic Pringle, a senior research scientist at Yale University's Center for Emotional Intelligence, says absolutely. Pringle defines creativity as something that's both original and effective, whether you're solving an accounting problem or planning an unconventional retirement. We explore the gap between having ideas and actually implementing them. You have this brilliant vision for starting a business, changing careers, or retiring early, but somehow you never take the first step. Pringle calls this the implementation gap, and she explains why it happens. The conversation centers on a hypothetical couple: both 55 years old, one a programmer, the other in middle management. They want to retire at 57 and travel the world. Pringle uses this example to illustrate how creative problem-solving works in real life. She explains that creativity requires comfort with uncertainty. When you're doing something new, you don't have a blueprint or checklist. There's always the risk that your early retirement plan could fail spectacularly — imagine having to return to work at 59 after the market tanks and your portfolio gets crushed. Here's the key insight: you don't need full confidence to start. Pringle compares creative confidence to fuel in a car. You don't need a full tank — you can start with just a quarter tank and refuel along the way. Each small success builds more confidence for the next step. The bottom line? Innovation happens through constant iteration. Your final destination might change throughout your career and retirement, and that's completely normal. www.patreon.com/dopeypodcastThis week on Dopey! It's ChrisMiss Time Again - and we remember Chris and think about what we've lost in our latest ChrisMiss episode. We are joined by Ted and Colin—two of Chris's closest friends—for a long, emotional, laugh filled but ultimately tragic journey through grief, memory, relapse, recovery and death. They recount wild and deeply human stories of Chris: his powerful magnetism, his “whatevs” persona, and the time he hugged a drunk driver who had just killed someone. Then, we go deep into Chris's relapse, the shame that may have surrounded it, and the fear of losing connection. From Mountainside to Katz's Deli, from a poetry slam to the drunk tank, from legacy to myth to bionic legs traded for heroin—this episode is everything that made Chris unforgettable. PLUS: a classic Dopey voicemail from Tim in Philly involving coke, Cookie, and crackhouse head, and a replay of Episode 71 with Chris. It all ends with the classic version of “Bad Card” and a full-circle Dave and Chris musical outro. Stay strong Dopey Nation, and fucking toodles for Chris.Opening:Dave recalls Dave Marshall, the first Dopey community member to die. Dave, Chris, and Dave Marshall once recorded a now-lost episode that ended in a bizarre fight—possibly because Chris was trying to impress Marshall.Talking Grief:Dave asks Colin and Ted how they grieve Chris. Colin mentions laughing at dumb things and feeling like Chris is still there. Ted recalls vivid dreams where Chris walks him through his relationship with his wife, like a ghostly Scrooge-style guide. The dream was so powerful he woke up crying.Dreams of Chris:Dave shares that Chris is always dead in his dreams, and that he recently had one with both Chris and his mother (also deceased). Chris always knows he's gone in the dream—making them painful but powerful.Trend of Death:The conversation shifts to the changing trends of death in recovery: less overdoses, more suicides, including people they knew.Settlers of Catan:Chris's obsession with the Settlers board game—cheating newbies, logging fake wins on a wooden log, and playing alone while stacking stats. The actual Settlers Log might be lost.Connection & Community:Colin reflects on connection as the heart of Dopey and recovery. Chris embodied that connection for many. Why Did Chris Relapse? They dive into theories around Chris's relapse:He was doing well—finished his master's, in a stable relationship, BTN job picking up.Dave wonders if Chris thought the promises of recovery would be better high.Colin and Ted say Chris might've feared losing relationships if he admitted he was using.Shame and stigma—not about being an addict, but about breaking the recovery identity—were likely massive.Chris's Persona:“Whatevs” was Chris's favorite line, but everyone agrees—he actually cared a lot. He just didn't want people to know.Origin Story:Chris and Dave met at Mountainside, where Chris became Dave's “Eskimo”, showing him that 12-step worked.Chris used to visit Katz's Deli to impress Dave and his girlfriends. They texted or talked every single day from 2015 to the day Chris died. The Fatal Crash Story:Ted and Chris are en route to a poetry slam when they stumble on a deadly car crash—they are first on scene.Ted goes into shock.Chris takes action—calls 911, finds a guy with smashed legs, then chases the drunk driver into the woods. The driver is blackout drunk, crying, and doesn't know what happened.Chris hugs the man, tells him he killed someone, and holds him as he cries.Later, Chris keeps in touch with the man, who is sentenced to 30 years in prison. It was his seventh DUI.Synchronicity:A year later, Chris relapsed. Ted and Colin had to call the cops on him.The same officer from the crash scene showed up to arrest Chris and put him in the drunk tank.Chris's Duality:Dave sums it up: “We're the same people who kill people. We're the same people who help people. And we can turn up totally wasted again at the drop of a dime.”Recovery Today:Ted no longer goes to meetings. He stays clean through fatherhood, meditation, self-help, spirituality, and service.Colin is still active in both 12-step and Dharma recovery, running meetings and staying connected. The Island & The Source:They call the Berkshires “The Source” (or “the island from Lost”) and reflect that Chris might have needed to stay there.Dopey Origins:Ted recalls Chris calling Dave from their house, excited about starting something. They joke about Ted's long resistance to appearing on Dopey, and how his job working with kids made him hesitant to be publicly associated with drug stories. He recently shared his full story with his students.Legacy of Chris & Dopey Growth:Dave reflects on how Chris's death helped grow the show in ways that feel bittersweet.Ted and Colin say they thought Dopey was “so dumb” when it started but now are blown away by what Dave's done with it.Robot Legs Story:Ted shares a picture of Chris's titanium leg braces, used to treat ankle issues from drinking.Chris once tried to trade the $5,000 robotic legs for heroin—the dealer said no.Cookie & Classic Dopey Returns:Dave plays a classic voicemail from Tim in Philly:Shoots coke in KensingtonReggie and Cookie join himReggie says Cookie gives “the best head”Tim says no, but once the coke hits—he caves instantlyThey do the drugs in Reggie's mom's house, possiblyClassic filthy, funny, dark Dopey stuffThrowback to Dopey Episode 71:Dave plays a full classic Chris segment:Shooting cokeEuphoric recallLego hot dog standsMeeting speakers“Built-in forgetters”Chris's obsession with scale, smell, and push“Favorite part was waiting for the rush before it hit”Final Thoughts:Dave shares how much he misses Chris.Notes the podcast would not exist without him.Chris is still part of it every week.Reflects on his old sponsor telling him “you have to step over bodies,” which he rejected.Chris's death has saved lives.Dopey grew because of him—but Dave would trade it all to have him back.
