Raised in the New York City garment industry, Andrew Rosen learned the tools of the trade from his father, Carl Rosen, the second-generation head of the family-founded business Puritan Fashions Corporation. After his father's untimely death, Andrew became CEO of Puritan at the budding young age of 25. His title changed following the acquisition of Puritan by a well-known, rising star fashion designer and colleague, Calvin Klein. Andrew remained on the executive team and served as president before eventually leaving to take a different CEO position for another well-known designer by the name of Anne Klein—no relation to Calvin. He led that company for six years before getting fired over disagreements in brand strategy. With a little more experience and a lot more clarity of vision, Andrew tested his own mettle by cofounding the company Theory with partner and fashion designer Elie Tahari. In our conversation we discuss the incredible growth of that business, as well as Andrew's subsequent career as an investor and advisor for some of today's leading contemporary brands like Alice + Olivia, rag & bone, Veronica Beard, SKIMS, Good American and many more. We're really happy to call Andrew a friend and super grateful for his knowledge and insights into our business that he's shared over the years. Thanks for tuning in to episode 68. We hope you enjoy it! Did you know that YOU can be on The Nordy Pod? This show isn't just a one-way conversation. We want to hear about what Nordstrom looks like through your eyes. Go see the cute Elie Tahari designer wool top that I found at GoodwillFinds.com on my Instagram HERE!In my opinion, people that have hobbies (especially creative ones!) are the happiest people. We don't need research to tell us that (it's pretty obvious if you're a crafter!), but there was a 2009 study that found that people who had hobbies (for example, hobbies, sports, socializing, or spending time in nature) are more likely to have lower blood pressure, lower levels of cortisol, which is a stress hormone), and lower levels of depression. Individuals who engaged in more frequent enjoyable leisure activities had better psychological and physical functioning. With those kinds of results, why aren't more people engaging in hobbies? It could due to lack of time, health issues, lack of money, etc. But our physical and mental health are dependent on us engaging in some of these fun activities! And some of the best hobbies don't cost very much to get started, if you're strapped financially. Here are some ideas for hobbies to add to your list in 2023!Got a question? We have a great show for you today so, stick around! Judiann Romanello Judiann Romanello is the founder and curator of DamnAged Vintage -a vintage clothing shop located in Cold Spring, NY. Prior to opening her store, she worked in the luxury fashion industry in New York City for world-renown designers such as Ralph Lauren, Elie Tahari and most recently Cartier. As an expert on vintage fashion, she is dedicated to bringing timeless womenswear and accessories to fashion lovers everywhere while educating consumers on the benefits of sustainable fashion Judiann grew up with lots of elders around her, and she loved to rummage through old clothing and accessories, that's where her spark started! Bernadette and Judiann discuss what classifies a piece of clothing as vintage. 30 years prior is considered vintage, and prior to the 1930's is considered antique! Special pieces can be found everywhere! When Judiann buys, she looks for authentic labels, good quality, and authenticity. If you have good taste, you can shop anywhere. Stephanie Toups Stephanie is a consumer advocate professional particularly focused on safety in food and personal care products. She became fascinated with the industry when she was diagnosed with a thyroid autoimmune disorder while pregnant with her second child. Stephanie has always been fascinated with education and holds both an undergraduate and Master’s degree in Accounting and Finance from Texas A&M University. She is a Certified Public Accountant and has owned and operated numerous businesses in the Dallas area. Texas suffered a deadly snow storm and ice storm two weeks ago that claimed 57 lives, mostly from hypothermia. A while ago, Texas separated itself from the rest of the country and made it's own power grid. The reason for this was that Texas is regulated by the state, and the rest of the country is federal. The Texas grid is called ERCOT, and it is run by an agency of the same name — the Electric Reliability Council of Texas. The Texas Interconnected System — which for a long time was actually operated by two discrete entities, one for northern Texas and one for southern Texas — had another priority: staying out of the reach of federal regulators. Inspired by the stylish dinner party and life of socialite Kitty Packard depicted in the 1930s film Dinner at Eight, Richard Mishaan designed a townhouse for Town&Country that gives Art Deco a modern twist. His imaginary client is a couple in their 50s who, like Kitty, are committed to their own perceptions of glamour and chic, and not afraid to push the envelope. The winning result is a downtown duplex with a heavy dose of uptown panache. Visit DesignerVisionsOnline.com for more.
