In this episode, Daphna sits down with Dr. Joseph Kaempf, neonatologist and Medical Director of Value Research and Innovation at Providence Health System in Oregon, to examine some uncomfortable truths about neonatal quality improvement. Dr. Kaempf shares findings from a study spanning 16 NICUs over 14 years showing that composite morbidity outcomes have remained flat while length of stay has increased. He explores why traditional QI tools like driver diagrams and PDSA cycles may no longer be sufficient, and why augmented intelligence may be the next frontier. The conversation also touches on culture as a driver of NICU performance and the gap between institutional interests and true shared decision-making with families. X2M.255 Quiétude | Stillness and the Super-Conqueror Series: CR20 Place De La Concorde Romans 8:37 does not announce escape from pressure. It names victory inside it: “in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.” This is Quiétude: the stillness after obedience, the confidence before visible result, the refusal to turn victory into spectacle, seizure, or premature motion. Paul's word is ὑπερνικῶμεν: hypernikōmen: we more-than-conquer, overwhelmingly prevail, hyper-conquer.¹ A conqueror defeats the obstacle. A Super-Conqueror remains in Christ until the obstacle itself becomes testimony. Pressure becomes witness. The wound becomes proof. Accusation becomes the place where the blood speaks. Death becomes resurrection ground. But the final clause governs everything: “through Him who loved us.” The victory is not generated by force, intelligence, spiritual rank, charisma, or self-authorizing power. It is received through divine love. The Super-Conqueror is not an independent throne. The Super-Conqueror is a witness of love under pressure. Revelation gives the Lamb-shaped form: they overcome by the blood of the Lamb, by the word of their testimony, and by faithfulness even unto death.² Their testimony does not create Christ's victory. It agrees with what He has already accomplished. The Lamb was slain, yet He stands. The grave received Him, yet could not retain Him. The enemy made the wound, but the enemy does not define the wound. In Qitronix language: Qiₜ overcomes within the bounded field. Qiₜ² preserves the meaning of the whole field. Qavāmium tests whether that preserved meaning can stand. Qiₜ is coherent action under resistance. Qiₜ² is recursive coherence under pressure: testimony, identity, suffering, custody, inheritance, and outcome held together until the hostile condition loses final authority. Quiétude guards the line: Coherence is not permission. Readiness is not authorization. Standing requires measure. Solomon shows the architectural pattern. David fought while the Lord subdued the field. Solomon built only when rest, lawful succession, and the prior word of God converged.³ Victory cleared the field. Authorization built the house. Luke gives the ascension pattern. In Luke 9:51, Jesus sets His face toward Jerusalem: active resolve. In Luke 24:51, He lifts His hands in blessing and is carried upward: rested reception.⁴ Before the cross: set the face. After resurrection: lift the hands and bless. The Super-Conqueror does not climb into glory. The Super-Conqueror is carried by the victory love has already completed. In Place De La Concorde architecture, X2M.255 is the stillness-bound victory event: the battle has lost the right to define the beloved, but the next movement remains under custody. The victory is confessed. The testimony is preserved. The inheritance is held. The house waits for its measured line. Glorification | The Final Frontier Going boldly where the last man has gone before! Decrease time over target: PayPal or Venmo @clastronaut Cash App $clastronaut X2M.255 Quiétude is not passive resignation. It is love-governed hyper-victory held beneath divine timing: pressure becomes testimony, suffering loses final authority, obedience gives way to rested reception, and the Super-Conqueror preserves the victory without seizing the throne. The victory is real. The line must hold. The house may stand only through the One who loved us. Footnotes ¹ Romans 8:37 uses hypernikōmen, from hyper and nikaō: more-than-overcoming. ² Revelation 12:11 grounds overcoming in the Lamb's blood, testimony, and faithful endurance. ³ 1 Kings 5:2–5 distinguishes subdued adversaries from authorized temple-building. ⁴ Luke 9:51 and Luke 24:51 frame resolve before the cross and reception after completion. ⁵ Qiₜ², Super-Conqueror, and Qavāmium are interpretive analogies, not claims of spiritual rank, autonomous authority, or execution permission.

Alan Davies is getting everything out into the open and bringing his new tour to Kiwi stages. The British comedian is best known for his regular spot on the long-running panel show QI and his portrayal of the titular role in Jonathan Creek. And now he's returning to New Zealand's shores for the first time in a decade – with ten performances of his new stand-up show over the span of two weeks. ‘Think Ahead' was written alongside the second volume of his memoir —White Male Stand-Up— which deals with the ongoing impacts of childhood abuse, the death of his mother, and navigating the world of comedy and television. “I started to work up, kind of alongside it, ideas for a stand-up show, and really wanting to talk about all the more difficult things I've experienced in that form,” he told Heather du Plessis-Allan. “Thinking, well, I've been doing this for 35 years, I'm able to turn my hand to it.” Davis knows he's not alone in his experiences, that there are people in the audience who've experienced similar things and are sitting there in silence – just as he did. “Let's get it out in the open.” “I try and be as funny as possible, and present a full version of who I am, really, and it's, I think it's really paying off, the response is really good, it's been very gratifying, I didn't know how it would go,” he told du Plessis-Allan. “I just think it's the best show I've ever done.” LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

On this episode, I really focus my lens on what this theory is and why anyone would want to use it in their life. The five elements are fire, earth, metal, water, and wood. Within each elements we get into the following categories:- Nature and Environment- Sensory and Ascetic- Body and Organs- Mind and EmotionsIf you've ever felt like your body was speaking a language you couldn't quite translate, the Five Element Theory might be the key you didn't know you were looking for. This framework dissolved the illusion of separation I felt between myself and the natural world, helped me feel more connected to the cycles and seasons I'd always lived inside, and gave me the confidence to finally be the authority of my own health. June 2026 Flying Stars: Fire Horse Energy, Visibility, Wealth & Completion

Smashing Secrets Feng Shui

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 5, 2026 21:16

In this episode, Jo shares the June 2026 Flying Stars Feng Shui forecast, beginning from 5 June 2026 at 11:50pm, becoming more noticeable from 6 June onwards. June arrives with exceptionally strong Fire energy. We are already in Period 9, a 20-year Fire period, and 2026 is the Yang Fire Horse year. As we move towards the summer solstice on 21 June, the Fire element becomes even more pronounced. Fire is associated with: Visibility Reputation Fame Recognition Marketing Branding Performance Illumination Exposure Expansion This makes June a powerful month for anyone working with public presence, creativity, performance, media, communication, reputation-building or personal visibility. At the centre of the chart, the Flying Star 4 arrives, bringing themes of popularity, creativity, study, romance, writing, learning and communication. Because the centre influences the whole chart, these themes ripple through the entire month. Jo also revisits the Trilogy of Luck: Heaven Luck — the stars, timing, BaZi and cycles we cannot change, but can read and understand. Earth Luck — the Feng Shui of our homes, rooms, sectors, furniture and physical environment. Man Luck — the choices we make, the actions we take, and how consciously we work with the energy available. The episode then moves through each sector of the home for June 2026. The South contains wealth potential, but also pressure. This sector can support prosperity, especially for those who benefit from Fire energy, but it should be kept peaceful and quiet due to the annual misfortune star. The Southwest brings auspicious energy for new beginnings and longer-term wealth. Spending time here, or sitting with your back to the southwest, can help draw in supportive energy. The West supports success, authority and helpful opportunities. It is a useful sector for increasing recognition and results. The Northwest needs care, as a difficult monthly star brings potential challenges. Avoid renovations, loud noise or heated arguments in this area. The North holds surprising prosperity potential, including unexpected opportunities or windfalls. However, because the annual Six Killings energy is also present, this sector should be used calmly rather than aggressively activated. The Northeast is creative and supportive for study or writing, but may also carry a risk of misunderstanding, gossip, betrayal or unclear intentions. Use this area gently and avoid mean-spirited dynamics. The East is one of the more supportive sectors for completion. This is a strong area for finishing projects, meeting deadlines, wrapping things up and seeing earlier work come to fruition. The Southeast brings movement, growth and momentum, but also conflict or impatience. It can help with procrastination, but needs to be handled carefully to avoid arguments or impulsive reactions. Jo then looks at how June 2026 may affect the Chinese zodiac animals. The Rat clashes with the Horse, making June busy, stimulating and potentially demanding — but also lucky for wealth and opportunity. The Ox should be mindful of communication and misunderstandings. The Tiger combines with the Horse, increasing Fire energy, motivation and momentum, but also impatience. The Rabbit benefits from completion energy and may see results from earlier efforts. The Dragon and Snake should avoid drama, politics and unnecessary conflict. The Horse experiences amplified energy and should be mindful of self-penalty, overdoing things or becoming its own obstacle. The Goat is well-supported by the Horse and may enjoy cooperation, visibility and relationship growth. The Monkey benefits from new beginnings and a lift in energy. The Rooster may find June successful, with helpful people and problem-solving opportunities. The Dog combines with the Horse but may face complications, delays or unexpected challenges. The Pig has generally steady energy but should avoid unnecessary risks and protect health and energy levels. Jo closes the episode by inviting listeners to get in touch for Feng Shui, BaZi or Qi Men consultations, and to join the Patreon family for daily Qi updates.

Back in June 2024, we highlighted surprising data from JAMA Network Open regarding adolescent care in the ED. Because many adolescents use the ED as their primary care provider, it's a good opportunity for them to have contraception addressed regardless of why they presented. But that's not what was happening. That publication from two years ago showed significant gaps in addressing contraception in the ED to pregnancy vulnerable young women, mainly teens. We covered those results back then and said that that would be a wonderful QI project for any resident or medical students to work with their hospital ED to improve that. Well, now a similar publication, looking at a different target- STI empiric treatment among pregnant women in the ED, has been published with that same vibe. Yep, there are BIG discrepancies in what pregnant women are given- or in this case, NOT GIVEN, in the ED compared to their nonpregnant peers. This was published in mid-April 2026. Two big questions remain unanswered in this data. Listen in for details. 1. Gottlieb M, Moyer E, Slocum GW, et al. Kevin Mack, the new president of Via Licensing Alliance, joins Eli for the Clause 8 season finale.Kevin talks about Via's plans to build its next patent pools around "de facto" standards — technology the market adopted on its own, with no standards body behind it — which would push collaborative licensing into territory it has never touched. Mack also takes a hard look at the royalty-free models spreading through tech and AI, from AV1 to the new Shared AI License Foundation (SAIL), argues that "free" rarely stays free, and explains why he's optimistic about where the patent system is heading.Kevin and Eli also discuss:*Via's model and the "tipping point" that turns a pool from a few licensors into thousands of licensees*"De facto" standards: pooling patents for technology no standards body ever blessed*Leadership turnover at Via, the HEVC pool's move to Access Advance, and a new strategy-and-growth group*The push into semiconductors, including a new DRAM memory program*AV1, SAIL, and why Mack thinks royalty-free rarely stays free*Whether AI patents are as "foundational" as advertised — and why "AI is not new"*Efficient infringement, patents as property rights, and why companies ultimately take a license*The mood out of Via's Rome summit and a US patent system tilting back toward ownersNotable names, companies & standardsPeople: Kevin Mack (president, Via Licensing Alliance); Heath Hoglund (former Via president); John Amster (Jamster Capital; RPX co-founder)Organizations: Via Licensing Alliance (Via LA), MPEG LA, Dolby, Access Advance, Alliance for Open Media, Shared AI License Foundation (SAIL), WIPO (PatentScope), DOJ, USPTOSAIL founders / board (public): Anthropic, Genentech, IBM, Meta, Microsoft; board observers eBay and TD Bank Group; members include Block and FigmaStandards & technologies: AAC, AVC (H.264), HEVC (H.265), AV1, MPEG-2, Qi wireless charging, DRAM memory, SEP / FRANDDisclaimer This is a public episode.

Happy Sunday Set Up , Heal Squad! This week, we're coloring outside the lines a little as we dive into life force energy, nervous-system depletion, psychic heaviness, and why so many people today feel emotionally, physically, and spiritually drained. Inspired by a recent biofeedback session, Keven explores what ancient traditions called Qi, Prana, or vital force—and how modern stress, burnout, overgiving, guilt, survival mode, and toxic environments may quietly be crushing it.  We break down the real signs your life force energy may be low: exhaustion that sleep can't fix, emotional numbness, brain fog, hypervigilance, feeling spiritually “dim,” and constantly carrying everyone else's emotions. From nervous-system regulation and breathwork to creativity, purpose, sunlight, boundaries, and peace, we explore what actually restores vitality—and why true healing may be a lot less mystical and a lot more human than we think. We even get a little woo woo. Psychic attack. Emotional contamination. Toxic people, moldy homes. hoarding, dark quarters, demonic energy - oh my!. This Sunday Set Up explores the strange ties to those items and loss of energy. And ultimately? Why opening a window, cleaning a room, speaking truth, setting boundaries, and reclaiming peace might be some of the oldest medicine there is. Remember Heal Squad: the opposite of darkness isn't fear. It's awareness. Breath. Light. Movement. Truth. Open the windows. Protect your peace. And reclaim your life force. In this episode, Dr. K explores the psychological profiles of iconic fictional characters like Eren Yeager and Joe Goldberg before sitting down with an expert for a deep dive into the reality of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD). He examines how trauma, stunted development, and personality disorders manifest in media and what these portrayals can teach us about real-world mental health. What to expect in this episode: Eren Yeager and Moral Injury: An analysis of the trauma of being forced to commit "vile acts" and how dehumanizing others serves as a survival mechanism to avoid falling apart. Joe Goldberg's Limerence: Why the star of You is a terrifying example of limerence (falling in love with a fantasy) combined with sociopathy, leading to a "morality of a pedestal" that ignores actual empathy. Michael Scott's Stunted Development: How the Dunder Mifflin manager acts as an "alien trying to be human" because he lacks a healthy template for relationships despite being world-class at a specific skill like sales. Saul Goodman and the Gambling Brain: A look at why some brilliant individuals fail to learn from their mistakes due to a deficit in counterfactual thinking and a drive to prioritize a "flashy fantasy" of success over actual stability. Levi Ackerman and Clinical Thresholds: Why being obsessively clean does not necessarily mean someone has OCD if they lack impaired function and ritualistic compulsions. Expert Guest Dr. McGrath: Dr. K is joined by Dr. Patrick McGrath, a clinical psychologist with over 26 years of experience specializing in OCD and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) therapy. The Reality of NOCD: An introduction to NOCD, a specialized online platform for OCD treatment that has been vetted by the Healthy Gamer scientific advisory board to provide evidence-based care. The Doubting Disorder: Dr. McGrath explains how OCD attacks the things people value most—such as religion (scrupulosity) or children—by using "what if" scenarios to trap individuals in a loop of searching for answers that don't exist. Living with Uncertainty: Why the gold standard treatment, ERP, focuses on teaching the brain to accept doubt rather than providing logical answers that the "OCD monster" would otherwise "eat for breakfast". What if the key to improving egg quality has less to do with the egg itself, and more to do with the environment it lives in? In this episode, Michelle Oravitz breaks down a landmark study out of UCSF that used cutting-edge 3D imaging to map entire human and mouse ovaries at the cellular level, and what the researchers found is reshaping everything we thought we knew about ovarian health. The study revealed that eggs are not scattered randomly throughout the ovary. They live inside communities made up of blood vessels, nerves, and support cells, and that surrounding environment actively shapes how eggs mature and how long they last. Even more striking, the researchers discovered that sympathetic (fight-or-flight) nerves are woven throughout the ovary and play a direct role in regulating which eggs receive the signal to grow. Michelle also explores how Traditional Chinese Medicine has been describing this exact system for thousands of years through the framework of Kidney Jing, Liver Blood, and Qi flow, and how these ancient concepts map with remarkable precision onto what modern science is now confirming. This episode will shift the way you think about fertility. Your ovarian ecosystem is not fixed. It is alive, responsive, and shaped by how you live every day. Key Takeaways:  Egg quality is shaped not just by the egg itself, but by the entire microenvironment surrounding it, including blood vessels, nerves, and support cells. Fight-or-flight nerves inside the ovary directly regulate which eggs receive the signal to mature. Ovarian blood vessel health is one of the first things to decline with age, reducing the nutrients and signals follicles need even when eggs are still present. The ovarian environment is dynamic and responds to what you eat, how you sleep, how you move, and the state of your nervous system. Traditional Chinese Medicine has described this system for thousands of years through Kidney Jing, Liver Blood, and Liver Qi stagnation, concepts that map directly onto what modern science is now finding. Practical support focuses on improving circulation, nourishing Kidney Jing, regulating the nervous system, and reducing inflammation Disclaimer: The information shared on this podcast is for educational and informational purposes only and is not intended as medical advice. Life updates, hormone wins, and holistic health deep dives — we are back with a raw, real catch-up episode you don't want to miss. In this week's catch-up episode of The Wellness Effect, we share personal health updates that are equal parts exciting and eye-opening. Jensen reveals a potential breakthrough in her menstrual cycle after completing a parasite cleanse — her shortest cycle in three years. Lacey opens up about her first acupuncture experience with a Chinese medicine practitioner on her fertility journey, unpacking what pulse reading, meridians, and liver qi stagnation actually mean for hormone health. Kira gets vulnerable about her emotional thaw after years of fertility struggles, sharing how she's finally reconnecting with the joy of creating holiday memories for her kids. We also get into the dangers of toxic household products like Scentsy and dryer sheets as endocrine disruptors, and Jensen's plans to start making home-cooked, whole-food meals for her dog Stevie, who has been dealing with pancreatitis and GI issues.   Key Takeaways 1. Parasite cleansing may support hormonal and menstrual health. 2. Chinese medicine and acupuncture offer a whole-body lens on fertility. 3. Could the missing piece in your fertility journey have nothing to do with hormones, and everything to do with your nervous system? In this episode, Michelle Oravitz explores the powerful overlap between polyvagal theory (modern neuroscience) and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), revealing why both systems point to the same root cause: a body that doesn't feel safe enough to create life. Michelle breaks down how the three states of the nervous system, ventral vagal (safety), sympathetic (fight-or-flight), and dorsal vagal (shutdown), map directly onto foundational TCM concepts like smooth Qi flow, liver Qi stagnation, and kidney deficiency. She also explores the profound heart-uterus connection, known in TCM as the Bao Mai, and how a settled heart and regulated nervous system create the internal environment most supportive of conception. This isn't about relaxing more. It's about active, body-based regulation, and Michelle shares practical tools including acupuncture, herbal medicine, breathwork, and movement to help you get there. Key Takeaways: Your body will not prioritize reproduction when it feels unsafe, and safety is a biological requirement for conception. Polyvagal theory and Traditional Chinese Medicine map the same nervous system states, just in different languages separated by thousands of years. Both modern science and TCM confirm a direct heart-uterus connection, meaning a settled heart creates a more receptive environment for conception. Regulation is an active, body-based process and not simply relaxation or telling yourself to calm down. A slow, extended exhale is one of the fastest ways to activate the ventral vagal pathway and shift your nervous system state. Your nervous system filters the present through every past experience, including old stories about your body being broken or not enough. I Ching · Book of Changes · Part 1 of 2 (Hexagrams 1-45) The Book of Changes (Traditional: 易經; Simplified: 易经; Legge: Yî King, Wade-Giles: I Ching; Pīnyīn: Yìjīng; Bopomofo: ㄧˋㄐㄧㄥ; Korean: 역경; Japanese: 易経; Vietnamese: Kinh Dịch) Fúxī (伏羲), King Tāng of Shāng (商湯), King Wén of Zhōu (周文王), his son the Duke of Zhōu (周公旦), and Confucius (孔子) have traditionally been credited as the originators of the trigrams (八卦 bāguà), hexagrams (卦 guà), hexagram statements (彖 tuàn), line statements (爻辭 yáocí), and Ten Wings (十翼) commentaries. "The I Ching does not offer itself with proofs and results; it does not vaunt itself, nor is it easy to approach. Like a part of nature, it waits until it is discovered." — Carl Jung Different combinations of three yang (⚊) and yin (⚋) lines create the eight trigrams, namely: ☰ (乾 Qián Heaven, the sky. S. Untiring strength; power.) or (Father. NW) ☱ (兌 Duì Lake, or marsh. Collected water. SE. Pleasure; complacent satisfaction.) or (Youngest daughter. W) ☲ (離 Lí Fire, as in lightning; the sun. E. Brightness; elegance.) or (Second daughter. S) ☳ (震 Zhèn Thunder. NE. Moving, exciting power.) or (Oldest son. E) ☴ (巽 Xùn Wind; wood. SW. Flexibility; penetration.) or (Oldest daughter. SE) ☵ (坎 Kǎn Water, as in rain, clouds, springs, streams, and defiles. The moon. NW. Peril; difficulty.) or (Second son. N) ☶ (艮 Gèn Hills, or mountains. NW. Resting; the act of arresting.) or (Youngest son. NE) ☷ (坤 Kūn The Earth. N. Capaciousness; submission.) or (Mother. SW) When three lines are added to a trigram the resultant pairs of trigrams constitute the sixty-four hexagrams. The lower trigram is called 'the inner,' and the one above 'the outer.' The lines are numbered from one to six, commencing with the lowest. To denote the number of it and of the sixth line, the terms for 'commencing' and 'topmost' are used. The intermediate lines are simply 'second,' 'third,' &c. As the lines must be either whole or divided, technically called strong and weak, yang and yin, this distinction is indicated by the application to them of the numbers nine and six. All whole lines are nine, all divided lines, six. The Book of Changes is included as one of the Five Classics (五經) of the Confucian canon and Confucius said, "If some years were added to my life, I would give fifty to the study of the Yì, and might then escape falling into great errors." (Analects, VII.16) Scottish translator James Legge was a Hong Kong missionary, Non-Conformist Pastor of the English Union Church, and the first professor of Chinese studies at Oxford University. The original manuscript of his translation was nearly destroyed after being soaked in the Red Sea for a month. The Alphabet as Artifact: How Egyptian Pictograms Became Your ABCs

History Unplugged Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 7, 2026 57:04

The alphabet you're reading right now is a 3,800-year-old archaeological artifact, preserving ancient decisions in plain sight—from the upside-down ox head that became the letter A to the demotion of zeta from sixth position to last place Z by Roman scribes annoyed with Greek letter order. What began around 1800 BC as Phoenician pictograms using the acrophonic principle (a dog picture representing the sound /d/) evolved through Greek vowel additions and Roman reshaping into the 26-letter system we use today, complete with fossils like the silent K in "know" and the orphaned Q that seemingly violates the whole phonemic principle by always needing U. English spelling isn't graphic anarchy—it's a battlefield where too many competing rules from Viking invasions, Norman conquest, Renaissance classicism, and the Great Vowel Shift all clash simultaneously, making "organize vs organise" and "zee vs zed" disputes echoes of ancient transmission routes across the globe. Today's guest is Danny Bate, author of Why Q Needs U: A History of Our Letters and How We Use Them. We discuss how the alphabet's simplicity—expressing phonemes rather than symbolic meanings like Egyptian hieroglyphs' 700 characters—allowed it to outlast more complex writing systems, why the rounded lips of /w/ gradually changed "was" from rhyming with "glass" in Shakespeare's time to "woz" today, and how English doesn't allow /ks/ at the start of syllables, forcing "xylophone" to sound like /z/. Bate also reveals advanced Scrabble wisdom: words like QI, QADI, and FAQIR let you deploy that high-point Q without U, exploiting the Arabic and Chinese loanwords that snuck into English spelling's surplus of competing regularities.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
