Jen Hope is back for round two today, and I can't WAIT for you to hear this one. We're digging into that nebulous idea of "leadership" and why it's not a dealbreaker if you don't feel like a leader most days. Can't-Miss Moments:Jen and I rap on the "unconscious competence" conundrum, and how to see yourself more objectively (and AWESOMELY)Bold claim: resistance is a GOOD thing, and something to lean into instead of avoid. Jen and I have some ideas on how you can use those hard lessons as leverage to get where you want to go... Car singing? Dance parties? We're getting good and ranty on what I do to get myself out of an anxiety spiral and get the energy back up...Among the things we made up as a society: money, rules, deadlines, the way things supposedly work. So why not let Jen and I help you make up a few things that work for YOU?Why Jen and I agree that a top priority of being in business is JOY. Jen's bio:Jen Hope is an executive and leadership coach for startup leaders. With a background as the Vice President of Marketing for multiple high-growth startup companies, Jen understands the complexity of startup leadership. She leverages data and evidence-based tools that accelerate growth and scale individual and collective leadership. A self-kindness and mental health advocate, Jen is passionate about creating safe spaces for women and non-neurotypical leaders in startup and corporate leadership. Clients will tell you that Jen provides systems and habits that improve life and leadership. They love the sharp insights, structure, compassion, and accountability that come from Jen's coaching process. Jen's client list includes Tenable, Oracle, Altana.ai, TOMBOYX, DocuSign, Relayr, BlueJacketeer, and Uplevel. When Jen's not working, you can find her cooing over dogs, running the hills of the PNW, and singing all of the songs that play in her local grocery store and CVS.Resources and links mentioned:Jen's WebsiteJen on InstaJen on LinkedInJen on FacebookJen on TwitterBurnout by Emily Nagosky, PhDMartha Beck's podcast: "There's Less to Do Than You Think"Brian McCarthy Mindset Coaching (Angie's coach!)Support the showLet's collab: Book a Badass Business chat Work with Angie Get the Permission to Kick Ass book Let's connect: Angie's Facebook Page Angie on Insta Angie on YouTube If you dig the show and want to be part of bringing more awesome episodes to the world, consider buying a coffee for the production team!

Today, we have Andrei Ciobotar as our guest, who serves as the Chief Technology Officer at Relayr. Relayr provides comprehensive industrial IoT solutions and data-powered financial services to assist their customers in their transition towards Equipment-as-a-Service. With a decade of experience, Andrei is instrumental in relayr's success across cloud development, edge development, and AI engineering. In this episode, we explored how IoT can facilitate the transition from capital expenditure (CAPEX) to operational expenditure (OPEX) models for industrial equipment suppliers, simultaneously mitigating financial risks for operators. Additionally, we delved into the progression of artificial intelligence within industrial settings, moving away from customized, labor-intensive solutions towards standardized offerings tailored to specific asset categories and application scenarios. Key Discussion Points: What industries are most open to rethinking asset ownership and OEM business models? How do predictive maintenance and simulation work together to reduce downtime, considering the complexity of the predictive maintenance process? Do you see the value of creating simulated data and how generative AI as part of your tech stack? They also discuss an important element of self awareness, listening, and how that is the starting point of acknowledging what we're saying and how we're behaving and how that's impacting and affecting others. Too many of us wind up in leadership positions by default - either because we had the most experience or because we started our own thing and needed to bring on support staff. But truly leading people goes a lot deeper than knowing all the steps and creating the perfect “to do” list. Join us for a fascinating breakdown of human behavior that'll have you embracing your newfound leadership skillz.   Can't-Miss Moments From This Episode:Wanna know the REAL secret sauce to becoming the kind of rockstar leader people willingly follow? Corny as it might sound, it all comes down to L-O-V-E. Jen breaks down how showing your staff (and yourself!) some love will take your team performance to a whole ‘nother level. Uncomfortable truth: sometimes being a leader means stepping out of the spotlight and letting your people shine. Here's why you DON'T actually need to be the “brilliant idea person” all the time (and why putting that pressure on yourself could actually hurt your business)… Ever had one of those days where you stayed in your jammies and worked from bed? Join the club, we have jackets! Jen reveals why turning it up to 11 all the time is counterproductive (woohoo! Finally a reason to embrace your low-energy days)! Tacos and TP: an unexpected turn in the convo turned into an amazing rant about flexible thinking, creative problem solving, and self-awareness. Check out this incredible breakdown about turning it all around when things are most dire (and don't blame me if you start craving tacos)... To melt down or not to melt down? In true Millennial fashion, I rebel against the notion that you have to “leave the problems at the door” when you show up to work. Jen and I reveal the surprising benefits of embracing your human side in all its messy glory…This one is jam-packed full of advice.

IOTtoday

Play Episode Listen Later Dec 22, 2020 4:19

In this episode of the IoT for All Podcast, Guneet Bedi, SVP of Global Sales at Relayr, joins us to talk about how IIoT can help companies undergoing digital transformation to create sustainable, service-based business models. Guneet is a seasoned technology executive with an extensive background in enterprise software, IoT, and computer networking. He’s spanned roles from product management, strategy, business development, and software development at global tech companies including Cisco, Symantec, and Oracle. To start off, Guneet gave us some background on Relayr and how they serve their customers. In the beginning, Guneet said most customers were looking for support developing and deploying IoT solutions, but for the past two years, Relayr has been supporting companies in developing solutions to create new revenue streams that make use of subscription models. Especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, Guneet said that companies are realizing that these models are more resilient. In particular, Guneet said that Relayr has recently integrated financing and insurance elements into their packages with great success, allowing them to support customers in getting up and running while minimizing downtime and increasing overall efficiency to reduce operational costs.“We’ve built some really phenomenal technology,” Guneet said, “but I think we’re beginning to realize that technology is only one of the enablers, not the only enabler. And what really matters is - how do you build new revenue and build tangible outcomes.”Although most people, including Guneet, have historically thought about insurance and accidental and personal claims, insurance companies have been doing risk analysis on industrial equipment for a while. And Guneet said Relayr is bridging that gap through IoT, bringing in the data to make those risk analysis tools much more accurate. The struggle in industrial IoT, according to Guneet, is that it’s all still very new. While companies are now willing to talk about the work to be done in industrial settings, there’s still a great deal of uncertainty and risk involved. And when your potential customer is a market leader who’s been in business for 70 or 80 years, it can be difficult to change that mindset and culture.Changing the conversation toward the IoT ecosystem on the whole, Guneet spoke to the need for partnerships in the IIoT space. In the industrial space, he said, the equipment that they’re working with is expected to last twenty or thirty years, making it a vastly different ecosystem than in the smart home space, where a lightbulb or switch is expected to have a much shorter lifespan. That makes partnerships in the ecosystem, particularly in the supply chain, incredibly important to meet those customer expectations. To round out our discussion, we asked Guneet how he’d seen COVID-19 impacting the industrial IoT space as a whole and what expectations should be as things return to the new normal. Guneet said that, even now, many companies are slowing down and just waiting to see where the shortages will happen. One thing that’s sure, he said, is a greater need for solutions to remotely monitor and track assets, as managers are having to, in some cases, shelter at home and hope that their equipment is doing alright without them. The silver lining, however, is that as C-suite executives are grounded, they have time to think about the future, Guneet said, and that might mean exciting announcements coming on the heels of companies’ plans to reopen.Interested in connecting with Guneet?
