Send me a text!Cultivating an intentional community is a powerful and critical antidote to the disconnection fed by our current societal structures and now is the time to cultivate. I say that because we're living in a time where those structures are breaking down. Our individualistic, hierarchical culture is hitting its limits, and it feels rather like it's composting itself. But compost makes great soil, and with intention, we can use that breakdown to grow something new.In this episode of Unlimited, I invited sisters Nancy and Amy Harrington to join me in a conversation about cultivating intentional community and the shifts that support connection, collaboration, and care. Some of what we talk about in this episode includes:Rebuilding trust in relationships with other womenRedefining leadership—from hierarchy to a circle of self and co-leadershipDeveloping community agreements rooted in consent, care, and shared responsibilityPracticing the power of asking, receiving, and mutual supportThrough this episode, you'll gain inspiration and ideas for building community rooted in belonging, consent, and care. Day 6 of 90 - People Over Profit Exodus 18:1-24 I wonder if we rush into the purpose room without asking a pivotal question; that question being-who are my people? Who are the people I am called to help? Who are the people I am called to lead? Who will help me accomplish this goal? And who will I help accomplish their goal(s)? Each question is important. Mutual Support & Purposeful Collaboration - Who in your life has helped you accomplish a goal in a way that you couldn't have done it alone? What are some ways we can redefine success to align with a “People Over Profit” mindset?

Read OnlineJohn said to Jesus, “Teacher, we saw someone driving out demons in your name, and we tried to prevent him because he does not follow us.” Jesus replied, “Do not prevent him…” Mark 9:38–39Why would John and the other disciples try to stop someone from driving out demons? To understand this, imagine the scene. John and the other disciples had come to believe that Jesus was the Christ, the Messiah of God. They witnessed Him perform many miracles and change many lives. As a result, they no doubt wanted everyone to discover Who Jesus was and come to faith in Him. But then they encountered someone they did not know, who was driving out demons in Jesus' name, and they tried to stop him.Just prior to this passage, we read the story of a man who had brought his possessed son to Jesus' disciples and asked them to cure the boy, but they were unable to do so. Perhaps the disciples were a bit humbled by their inability to cast out the demon, and then they witnessed another person, not of their company, who was able to cast out demons in Jesus' name. This might have added to their feelings of weakness and humiliation, and perhaps that is part of their motivation for trying to stop the man from exercising authority in Jesus' name. One common temptation that the evil one issues upon the members of the Church is that of internal division. As followers of Christ, we are all entrusted with the same mission, in different ways. We are called to become instruments of God's grace for the salvation of souls and the glory of God. But sometimes we fail to act in unison and, instead, see our co-workers as our opponents.Within our Church today, there are plenty of internal divisions that must cease. Perhaps the best way to accomplish this is to make it a priority to focus upon mutual support. Instead of allowing pride to create jealousy toward those who perform “mighty deeds” by the grace of God, we must work to rejoice in every good that we see. This seems like an obvious statement, but pride and feelings of inadequacy are real temptations that lead us to look down upon those who accomplish the will of God in powerful ways. When we see someone doing something good, we often immediately think about ourselves, wishing we were the ones doing the good work. And when God uses another in a powerful way, we can easily be tempted to see our own inadequacies and failings, rather than glorifying God for the good deeds done by another.Reflect, today, upon the simple truth that every Christian is on the same spiritual team. We are all called to work toward the goals of the glory of God and the salvation of souls. Try to humbly think about those in your life who do this well and consider your attitude toward them. If you see any form of jealousy, envy or criticism, commit to dispel those attitudes. Instead, seek to have gratitude as you rejoice in the many ways that God uses others for His purpose.Lord of power and might, You accomplish countless good through the generosity and fidelity of Your people. You constantly use all who follow You to bring forth Your will. Please use me, dear Lord, as an instrument of Your will, and help me to always rejoice in the ways that You bring Your grace forth through others. Jesus, I trust in You.Source of content: catholic-daily-reflections.comCopyright © 2025 My Catholic Life! Inc. All rights reserved. IN THIS SERMON, REVEREND GERALD SPEAKS ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF INTERDEPENDENCE-THE IDEA THAT WE ARE ALL INTERCONNECTED AND RELY ON EACH OTHER FOR SUPPORT. HE REFLECTS ON HOW COMMUNITY BUILDING, WHETHER IN CHURCH, IN TIMES OF CRISIS, OR IN EVERYDAY LIFE, IS ESSENTIAL FOR COLLECTIVE STRENGTH AND SALVATION. DRAWING FROM HIS EXPERIENCES, SUCH AS SEEKING HELP DURING A CRISIS AT HIS CHURCH, HE EMPHASIZES THAT INTERDEPENDENCE ISNT JUST ABOUT RELYING ON OTHERS BUT ALSO BEING WILLING TO ASK FOR HELP WHEN NEEDED. REVEREND GERALD STRESSES THAT TRUE COMMUNITY IS BUILT ON MUTUAL RELIANCE, COMPASSION AND COLLECTIVE EFFORT, WHICH LEADS TO HEALING AND PROGRESS, EVEN IN DIFFICULT TIMES.

Sara and her boyfriend, Joe, went with another friend on a 12-day trek in the High Sierra. While there, friends kept asking “how's it going?” “Will your relationship survive this?” Sara realized we have a tendency to bolt when things get tough, especially when our history has had trust- breaking trauma. We are scared to be in that situation again. We often decide we rather be single and independent forever. This journey actually made Sara realize that if you allow yourself to trust, to be dependent in the good ways, the results are the most beautiful. So Sara, now back, thought a lot about what she and Joe went through. Tough hiking, fearful moments, deep emotional reactions, tackling the elements, being with just the 3 of them for 12 days in the wilderness with no other distractions but the beauty around them, and forging their way forward. Sara realized that actually going through hard times and challenges actually deepens the relationship, and isn't something to run from, but rather let yourself go through it and come out stronger on the other side, which they definitely did. She shares her reasons why it's good to go through challenges together and what it can do for a relationship. Listen to each item in depth in this podcast: 1 Shared experiences 2.Trust and Dependence 3.Improves communication 4.Heightens Empathy and compassion 5.Mutual Support and Growth 6. Strengthens the commitment 7.Allows for more gratitude and appreciation The most beautiful outcome for two people who were afraid to allow themselves to be vulnerable again, is that they know they are not doing this alone anymore. They have each others' backs, will support each other through highs and lows, and can communicate how they are truly feeling about fears, but also gratitude and appreciation. In this enriching episode of the "Father and Joe" podcast, hosts Joe Rockey and Father Boniface Hicks delve into the vital importance of asking for help and recognizing the profound relational dynamics it creates. From the moment we are born, asking for help is an intrinsic part of our human experience. As Joe articulates, "Every time that we're trying to accomplish something that we're not doing entirely by ourselves, we are asking for help." This episode explores the multifaceted ways in which we ask for and give help, often without recognizing the deeper implications of these exchanges.Father Boniface expands on this concept by introducing the "logic of the gift," a term from John Paul II's theology of the body. He explains, "I don't even know fully the gift that I am until I give myself and someone receives the gift and I see the gift that I am through how they receive it." This perspective shifts our understanding from transactional interactions to relational exchanges where each act of giving and receiving help strengthens our communal bonds.Through real-life examples and philosophical insights, this episode encourages listeners to appreciate the relational value in every act of help. Joe highlights the often overlooked appreciation for those who help, stating, "The chemist who figured out how to make your Lucky Charms taste amazing? No one gives any love to. But it's why you buy it every day, because it tastes awesome, it makes you feel happy." This recognition is crucial, not only for maintaining morale but for fostering a deeper sense of community.Father Boniface shares personal anecdotes and historical perspectives, emphasizing the importance of relationships over mere transactions. He reflects on his father's unwavering dedication to caring for a difficult family member, illustrating a cultural shift from the inherent duty to care for others to the more transactional nature of modern relationships. As they discuss the challenges and rewards of giving and receiving help, the conversation shifts to practical advice on how to build stronger relationships through these acts. Joe and Father Boniface stress the necessity of explicitly articulating our needs and appreciation, avoiding assumptions that can lead to misunderstandings and relational strain.Father Boniface poignantly concludes, "The better that we collaborate, the better we deepen the relationships, the better that we learn ourselves and grow in virtue and do things together. The more beauty, the more goodness we bring into the world in a lasting way."Join us in this insightful discussion and discover how the simple act of asking for help can transform your relationships and enrich your life. John said to Jesus, “Teacher, we saw someone driving out demons in your name, and we tried to prevent him because he does not follow us.” Jesus replied, “Do not prevent him…” Mark 9:38–39Why would John and the other disciples try to stop someone from driving out demons? And when God uses another in a powerful way, we can easily be tempted to see our own inadequacies and failings, rather than glorifying God for the good deeds done by another. Reflect, today, upon the simple truth that every Christian is on the same spiritual team. We are all called to work toward the goals of the glory of God and the salvation of souls. Try to humbly think about those in your life who do this well and consider your attitude toward them. If you see any form of jealousy, envy or criticism, commit to dispel those attitudes. Instead, seek to have gratitude as you rejoice in the many ways that God uses others for His purpose. Lord of power and might, You accomplish countless good through the generosity and fidelity of Your people. You constantly use all who follow You to bring forth Your will. Please use me, dear Lord, as an instrument of Your will, and help me to always rejoice in the ways that You bring Your grace forth through others. Jesus, I trust in You.Source of content: catholic-daily-reflections.comCopyright © 2024 My Catholic Life! Inc. All rights reserved. Ever felt a twinge of envy? Have you ever been labelled as jealous when all you did was desire someone's achievements or possessions? Let's pull back the curtain on envy, an emotion often misunderstood and maligned, yet so deeply intertwined with the human condition. I'm turning this conversation on its head, not just acknowledging envy, but reclaiming it as a mirror reflecting our deepest desires. I explore the societal narratives that paint women as rivals and discuss how envy plays a pivotal role in these portrayals. It's time to transform this negative emotion into an empowering tool for self-awareness and self-improvement. Now, let's talk about Schadenfreude - that umbrella term for the complex mix of emotions centred around envy. The satisfaction you feel when someone who seems to have it all stumbles. A destructive force in our relationships and communities, I explore how to recognize its influence, challenge it, and redirect the focus to building genuine connections. I'm also touching upon competition - how men and women perceive it differently and how we can break free from the cycle of envy and Schadenfreude. As I conclude, let's remember the power of supportive communities. Let's cheer for each other's successes, offer a hand when someone stumbles, and celebrate the beauty of genuine connections. Together, we can bridge the gap and cultivate a community rooted in understanding and support. Chapter Summaries: Reclaiming Envy (0:00:04) Exploring envy's roots, distinguishing between envy and jealousy, and reclaiming it to benefit us. Navigating Envy, Schadenfreude, and Competition (0:15:44) Schadenfreude is rooted in envy, affects relationships and communities, and can be challenged by focusing on mutual support and celebration. Celebrating and Supporting One Another (0:33:48) Let's celebrate successes, offer support, and build a community of understanding. "Embrace envy as a guiding light, transforming it from a negative force into a powerful compass that leads you to your true desires and aspirations." - Elizabeth Sherman Get full show notes and more information here: https://elizabethsherman.com/podcast/144

On this episode of Broker to Broker, host Marc Summers is joined by Broker Owner of Green Haven Capital, Kevin Oto. Kevin is a master of setting up a system that works. From starting with a few staff members working out of a bedroom, to a prominent broker owner in one of the most lucrative markets in the country, Kevin has established his presence in the market by creating a consumer experience like no other; supported by the automations and dependable processes he's put in place. Kevin notes to “stay humble, stay hungry” in this industry, and he lives and operates by those words. He shares the way he's able to systematically keep in touch with clients, stay on top of processes, and continually generate new business leads. He notes that supporting his real estate agents' events, and coming to them as a resource to have their problems solved and questions answered has led to mutual support in kind. Kevin shares his strategies for making new real estate connections: “Every purchase I get is basically an audition. I need to wow this listing agent. What can I do differently to get this listing agent's business? Then as I grew, this came through education. I would target small teams. There's a lot of realtor groups that have teams of like five or ten. So, I would target the teams, go to the founder of that team, say, “Can I just come by your office and give a presentation? I think I can add value to your agents. What would they like to learn about?” So it's just going in there, presenting and showing them what we do differently, then educating them about the market. We cover how to get their offers accepted, how are we different, and differentiate ourselves from the competition. And that works. Every time I do a presentation, I have at least one or two people come back with questions. And then it's really just building relationships with these people. It's just staying in front of them, building relationships, supporting their events, having outings together, just building that bond and then the business will eventually go both ways. Just focus on the relationship, and make sure you're educating these people.” Key Points: 1:34 Getting Started, Rebuilding after the 2008 Crash 4:39 From The Beginning: Automations & Procedures for the Best Client Experience 8:57 Educating Borrowers and the Urgency of Pre-Approval 16:14 Establishing Real Estate Partnerships 19:32 Being Consistent: Mortgage Marketing in 2023 This episode is sponsored by PRMG
