It's Thursday, August 28th, A.D. 2025. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 140 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark and Adam McManus International plea to release 7 pastors in Eritrea, Africa A consortium of charities is calling for the release of seven pastors in Eritrea who have been imprisoned for over 20 years. Since 2002, the East African nation outlawed many religious practices. Thousands of people have subsequently faced imprisonment, including Protestants. A country expert told Open Doors, “Anything done by any churches or its members [which is] seen as a threat to the absolute control currently in place will be subjected to punishment.” Eritrea is known as the “North Korea of Africa.” The government infamously holds some prisoners in shipping containers. Eritrea is ranked sixth on the Open Doors' World Watch List of the most difficult places to be a Christian. Evangelical churches in Spain on the rise Evangelical Focus reports that Evangelical churches are the most numerous of “minority” religions in Spain. Evangelical churches now account for 56% of non-Catholic places of worship in the Catholic-majority country. The second most numerous minority religion is Islam. Muslims have the most places of worship in smaller municipalities with less than 5,000 inhabitants. Meanwhile, Evangelical churches are more numerous in municipalities with 5,000 to 100,000 people. Twisted trans killed 2 Catholic school students, injures 17 Tragically, a twisted transgendered psychotic, 23-year-old Robert Westman, who pretended to be female, shot and killed two children yesterday morning at 8:30am at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis, Minnesota, reports The Blaze. The dead kids were 8 and 10 years old. Another 17 people were injured, including 14 children between the ages of 6 and 14, and three adults who ere all parishioners in their 80s. 10-year-old Weston Halsne, a fifth grader, described the deadly school shooting he witnessed at the beginning of the Catholic mass. HALSNE: “Yeah, it was like, maybe, like three minutes in, the first shot fired. … They shot through the stained glass windows, I think. And it was really scary. It was, like, right beside me. I was, like, two seats away from the stained glass windows. The shots were, like, right next to me. I think I got, like, gunpowder on my neck.” REPORTER: “When you heard the shots, what went through your head?” HALSNE: “The first one, I was, like, ‘What is that?' And when I heard it again, I just ran under the pew, and then I covered my head. My friend Victor, like, saved me, though, because he laid on top of me. My friend got hit in the back. He went to the hospital.” REPORTER: “What went through your mind when you saw that?” HALSNE: “I was super scared for him, but I think now he's okay.” REPORTER: “What do you want to say to your friend who helped protect you?” HALSNE: “He's really brave, and I hope he's good in the hospital. I'm praying for you.” The man, who legally changed his name from Robert to “Robin” in 2020, then killed himself. President Donald Trump responded immediately on Truth Social. He wrote, “I have been fully briefed on the tragic shooting in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The FBI quickly responded and they are on the scene. The White House will continue to monitor this terrible situation. Please join me in praying for everyone involved!” Earlier yesterday morning, Robert Westman allegedly released a deeply disturbing 11-minute-long YouTube video which I watched in its entirety. Amidst the profanity, he featured a picture of Jesus in the middle of a shooting target and a crudely drawn map of the church where the mass would take place. Westman revealed a massive amount of ammunition and long guns displayed on the bed, which were covered in his own white sharpie graffiti. As he narrated the video in a series of almost demonically-driven voices, he panned guns with the words “Where is your God?” and “For the children” and “No remorse” and “Rip and tear” scrawled across the guns. Other egregious messages include “6 million wasn't enough” and “Kill Trump now.” The shirt which he planned to wear during his forthcoming shooting rampage said, “Let's do this before the anxiety kicks in.” Isaiah 59:7 says, “Their feet rush into sin; they are swift to shed innocent blood. They pursue evil schemes; acts of violence mark their ways.” West Virginian parents allowed to opt kids out of vaccines West Virginia's Republican Governor Patrick Morrisey signed an executive order earlier this year to protect religious freedom and parental rights. The order allows parents to opt out of schools' vaccination requirements on religious grounds. Not surprisingly, the leftist American Civil Liberties Union issued a legal challenge. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced his support for the order on Monday. He wrote on X, “I urge state legislators to support the Governor's leadership and protect these fundamental rights. At @HHSgov, we will enforce conscience protections and defend every family's right to make informed health decisions.” Texas public schools will display Ten Commandments On Monday, Texas Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton ordered public schools in the state to display the Ten Commandments. A recent court order blocked some school districts from displaying the Ten Commandments. But Paxton has ordered all districts not affected by the litigation to have the displays up by next week. Paxton wrote, “From the beginning, the Ten Commandments have been irrevocably intertwined with America's legal, moral, and historical heritage. … The woke radicals seeking to erase our nation's history will be defeated. I will not back down from defending the virtues and values that built this country.” In Deuteronomy 6:6-9, God said, “And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. … You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.” Cracker Barrel keeps logo but pushes sexual perversion And finally, Cracker Barrel announced Tuesday it will keep its classic logo after significant backlash. The restaurant chain planned to sanitize its logo by removing the famous “old timer” figure leaning against a barrel. The drawing is based on Uncle Herschel McCartney, the real uncle of Cracker Barrel founder Dan Evins. The company's stock dropped nearly $100 million last week in response to the rebranding. President Donald Trump praised the decision to keep the classic logo. So did U.S. GOP Congressman Byron Donalds, a Republican representative for Florida. He wrote on X, “In college, I worked at @CrackerBarrel in Tallahassee. I even gave my life to Christ in their parking lot. Their logo was iconic and their unique restaurants were a fixture of American culture. No one asked for this woke rebrand. It's time to Make Cracker Barrel Great Again.” D.C. Draino tweeted, “Oh, and keep the original interiors. We want to eat in Grandma's home, not Grandma's nursing home.” And Brandon Wilinkson, who featured screenshots of Cracker Barrel's LGBTQ+ Alliance logo, tweeted, “You want us to come back? Scrap the woke DEI-pandering policies and fire the CEO. Until that happens, my family won't be coming back. You forget who your customers are. They aren't woke liberals in the cities. It's regular, working-class Americans that still hold traditional American values!” Close And that's The Worldview on this Thursday, August 28th, in the year of our Lord 2025. Bible Reading: Galatians 5:22-26; Colossians 1:9-14"This is the prettiest flower garden I've ever seen!" said Nia.Grandma looked up from her weeding. "I enjoy it too. When it's nice outside, I spend time almost every day watering, weeding, or transplanting something. It's a lot of work, but worth it." She smiled as she pulled a weed out of the dirt. "It reminds me of my life as a Christian.""It does?" asked Nia. "Why?""Well, for one thing, weeds in my life can grow as quickly as weeds in my flower bed," replied Grandma."Weeds in your life?" asked Nia. "You mean things like problems? Like when people are nasty or you get sick or somebody you love dies?" "Yes," said Grandma. "We experience all kinds of difficult and painful situations, and if we're not careful, they can cause us to become angry, bitter, and unforgiving. Those attitudes are like weeds with very long roots. The weeds in my garden would take over if I let them, and the weeds in my life would too.""So how do you get rid of them?" asked Nia. "Well, I like to think of the time I spend with Jesus as His weeding and watering time for my life," replied Grandma. "Praying, reading my Bible, going to church--those are all ways to learn more about Jesus and what He wants for me.""I try to pray and read my Bible and listen in church," said Nia. "But sometimes it's hard."Grandma nodded. "Sometimes I don't feel like working in my garden," she said. "But then I remember how important it is for my flowers and do it anyway, and once I get my hands in the dirt, I often find it to be a pure joy." "So can you make flowers grow in your life by doing those things like you do in your garden?" asked Nia. "Well, God makes the flowers grow, not me--in both my garden and my life," said Grandma. "But I can give the flowers in my life--the Bible calls them the fruit of the Spirit--a good place to grow by spending time with Jesus so I have the strength to handle any weedy situations that come along. It's well worth the effort." –Rosalie J. CurrierHow About You?Are there weedy problems in your life? Don't let them take root and produce sinful actions or unloving attitudes. Jesus wants your life to be like a beautiful garden that produces the fruit of the Spirit. Spend time with Him so He can refresh your soul. Talk to Him about your problems, and let Him encourage you by reading His Word and spending time with other Christians. Today's Key Verse:That you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God. (NKJV) (Colossians 1:10)Today's Key Thought:Spend time with Jesus

One of the challenges of applying Jesus's teaching to our modern lives (such as trying to negotiate pain that comes from people we love) is that we struggle with who we are in his stories. We will investigate the Parable of the Good Samaritan, considering the possibility that for once, we are not the hero in the story. A caller named Marianne asked Patrick Madrid how to explain to her evangelical son-in-law that Mary remained a virgin her whole life, especially since he believes the Bible says Jesus had brothers in the literal sense. The Teaching in a Nutshell Catholic dogma says Mary was a virgin before the conception of Jesus, during His birth, and after His birth for the rest of her life. Jesus was her only child. This belief isn’t just Catholic tradition; Patrick argues it’s what the Bible itself supports when understood correctly. The ‘Brothers of Jesus’ Problem Many Protestants point to verses like: Matthew 13:55 - “Isn’t this the carpenter’s son? Isn’t his mother’s name Mary, and aren’t his brothers James, Joseph, Simon, and Judas?” Mark 6:3 - Similar listing of “brothers” of the Lord. Patrick explains: In the Bible, “brother” (adelphos in Greek) has a wide range of meanings. It can mean biological brother, but also cousin, nephew, or even close family friend. Example: In Genesis 14:14, Lot is called Abraham’s “brother”, but we know from other passages that Lot was actually Abraham’s nephew. The Famous “Until” Verse Critics love to quote Matthew 1:25: “[Joseph] had no marital relations with her until she had given birth to a son.” -Some assume “until” means they started relations afterward. -But in biblical usage, “until” (heōs in Greek) does not mean a change afterward. -Patrick’s analogy: “Grandma didn’t take her medicine until she died.” That doesn’t mean she took it after! The ‘Firstborn’ Title Luke 2:7 calls Jesus Mary’s “firstborn.” Skeptics think that means there must have been a “second-born.” Not so! In Jewish law, firstborn is a legal term for the child who opens the womb, whether or not more children follow. Even an only child is still the “firstborn” in biblical and legal language. A Cross-Shaped Clue At the crucifixion (John 19:26-27), Jesus entrusted His mother to John, not to one of His “brothers.” If Mary had other biological sons, this would have been unthinkable in Jewish culture; her care would automatically go to them. The fact that Jesus chose John is silent but strong proof that Mary had no other children. The Early Church’s United Voice From the very beginning, Christians, including those who personally knew the Apostles, unanimously affirmed Mary’s perpetual virginity. No significant leader questioned it until the mid-4th century, when a man named Helvidius claimed otherwise. St. Jerome, a brilliant Scripture scholar and translator, wrote an entire work Against Helvidius, dismantling every argument point-by-point. Even Luther & Calvin Agreed Here’s a surprise for many Protestants: Martin Luther and John Calvin, the founders of the Reformation and fierce opponents of Catholicism, both affirmed Mary’s perpetual virginity. They didn’t accept it because the Catholic Church said so; they accepted it because the biblical and historical evidence for it was airtight. Why the Disagreement Today? Patrick brings up that many modern Christians reject this teaching for one simple reason: “If the Catholic Church teaches it, it must be wrong.”They then go hunting for Bible verses that seem to contradict it. But none of those verses, when understood in context, actually prove Mary had other children. Mary’s perpetual virginity isn’t an “extra Catholic add-on.” It’s rooted in Scripture, confirmed by history, defended by the early Church Fathers, and even upheld by the first Protestant Reformers. For anyone truly willing to look at the evidence, and not just react against Catholicism, the case is clear: Mary was, is, and always will be the Virgin Mother of Jesus.

Bible Reading: Psalm 116:1-7; Philippians 4:4-9More than an hour after Amelia had gone to bed at her grandparents' home, she still had not fallen asleep. She tried everything she could think of to relax her mind, but nothing worked. Finally, she slipped out of bed and went to find Grandma."Grandma, I saw an ad on TV about sleeping pills," said Amelia. "Do you have any? Can I have some?""I don't have any--and I don't think it would be good for you to take anything like that anyway, Amelia," said Grandma.Amelia sighed. She thought Grandma might say something like that. "But I just can't get to sleep," she said."You're probably worried about the divorce hearings tomorrow, aren't you?" asked Grandma, giving Amelia a hug.Amelia nodded. She felt better just having Grandma close. "It makes me nervous," she said, wishing she could tell Grandma exactly how she felt. But Amelia couldn't put her emotions into words. "I'm afraid of what will happen.""It's been bothering me too," Grandma told her. "We need to keep on praying for your mom and dad." Grandma was silent for a moment, and Amelia guessed their feelings were almost the same."Sleeping pills might make our bodies go to sleep, but I think there's an even better medicine for our nerves." Grandma picked up her Bible and opened it. "I'll read one of my favorite passages to you. It's in Philippians, and I think it will help both of us."As Grandma read out loud, Amelia noticed the Bible verses encouraged her to pray about everything. "Amelia, as your Savior, Jesus promises to be with you in every situation," Grandma said when she finished reading. "He wants you to trust Him with the things you're worried about so you can feel His peace--no matter what happens." Grandma prayed and asked God to quiet their nerves and give them rest. She also prayed for Amelia's parents."I think I can go to sleep now," Amelia said as she hugged Grandma. "Thanks for reading those Bible verses to me. That was good nerve medicine." Amelia settled back into bed, and even though she was still nervous, she felt better knowing Jesus promised to be with her and give her peace. –Esther M. BaileyHow About You?Has something been making you nervous recently? The next time you feel troubled, tell Jesus what's bothering you. Read some Bible verses that remind you He loves you and is always with you. He gave His life to save you, and you can trust Him to be with you through everything. Ask Him for peace despite the difficulties. If you're still nervous, talk to a trusted adult about your worries too. Today's Key Verse:The peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. (NKJV) (Philippians 4:7)Today's Key Thought:Jesus brings you peace

In this episode of The Grand Balance, Angela and Sharon kick off a brand new segment called “Don't Get Us Started,” where they share lighthearted takes on the everyday things that confuse and annoy us all. From there, the conversation shifts to something deeper: the juggling balls theory—the idea that in life, some priorities are like glass balls (fragile and precious, such as health and family) while others are like rubber balls (able to bounce back if dropped). Angela and Sharon unpack how to recognize the difference, protect what truly matters, and give yourself permission to let go of the rest. The episode closes with a powerful reminder about the importance of women uplifting women—in the workplace, in friendships, and in life. Because when we support one another, balance becomes easier and everyone rises together.

Bible Reading: Ephesians 1:7-9Tinkling bells chimed invitingly as the ice cream truck turned onto Cali's street. Ice cream was one of her favorite treats, but it was just before lunchtime, so she was sure her grandma wouldn't let her have anything now. But I can still have a little fun with the ice cream truck driver, Cali thought. She yelled loudly to get his attention as he drove by, then ducked behind a bush. The truck stopped, and the man got out expecting to sell something, but no one came to buy. Cali snickered to herself when she saw his puzzled face."That was unkind," said Grandma, and Cali jumped in surprise. She had no idea Grandma was watching and had come out. "It was wrong for you to stop that man and make him think he was going to earn some money. Now come with me. You need to apologize." Grandma led the way to the truck, which had not yet moved on.Under Grandma's watchful eye, Cali told the driver she was sorry for playing a trick on him. Then Grandma bought an ice cream bar for each of them.Cali felt ashamed when her grandmother held out the treat. "No thanks, Grandma.""But I bought this for you," said Grandma.Cali looked at the ground. "I don't deserve it after what I did.""That's true," said Grandma. "But I want you to have it anyway--it's a gift from me." She continued to hold out the ice cream bar.Reluctantly, Cali took the treat and began to eat. It tasted so good and was very refreshing on such a hot day! "Thank you, Grandma," she said.Grandma smiled. "You're glad you accepted my gift, aren't you?" Cali nodded. "I am, even though I don't deserve it.""We don't deserve God's love and forgiveness either," said Grandma. "But He offers it to us as a gift--a gift we need to accept. Jesus died on the cross to save us from sin so we could be forgiven and have eternal life with Him. But we can't enjoy that gift until we accept it.""Just like this ice cream," said Cali. EPISODE 8: The Stages of Grief: Denial Dying Laughing with Jessimae Peluso We're kicking off the first stage of grief...Denial. You know… that magical headspace where you tell yourself everything's fine, even when your 15-year-old dog is basically applying for Social Security. In this episode of Dying Laughing, I share how denial has shown up in my life (spoiler: a lot), why dogs are little time capsules, and I read submissions about the funniest, most relatable, and most painfully human ways people and their families have lived in denial. From pretending a breakup was “just a break” to ignoring that Grandma's wig was on backwards at the funeral this one's honest, hilarious, and maybe a little too real.
Bible Reading: John 10:7-10Ryan lay flat on his back in the cool green grass, watching the fluffy clouds floating across the sky above him. When he glanced over at the tall trellis covered with Grandma's rambling roses, he noticed it almost reached the small balcony with the slider door that led to the guest bedroom. Ryan scrambled to his feet and darted toward the house. I bet I can climb up to my room, he thought. He put his foot on a low trellis slat, pushed away a few roses, and began to climb. He stretched his arms, caught the balcony railing, and swung himself up. But before he could crawl over the railing, his foot slipped. He screamed, and the big pink roses zipped by as he fell to the ground."Ryan, can you open your eyes?" asked a faraway voice. "Can you hear me?"Ryan blinked and slowly sat up. "What happened?" he asked."You had a bad fall," said Grandpa. "We need to take you to the emergency room to make sure you don't have a concussion."After returning from the hospital with a clean bill of health, Ryan felt embarrassed about what he had done. "I wanted to climb onto the balcony to get into my room," he said. "I thought it would be more fun than just walking in through the door, but it wasn't fun at all!"After dinner, Grandpa read from the book of John. "Your experience today reminded me of these verses," he said. "They say Jesus is the door to eternal life. We may think we can get to heaven by going to church, helping neighbors, giving money to charity, taking care of animals--doing all sorts of good things. But just like you couldn't get into your bedroom by climbing the rose trellis, none of us can get into heaven by doing good things.""Right," said Grandma. "We can only get into heaven through Jesus. He is the door. Only He can save us from sin and give us eternal life." Ryan nodded. "I didn't use the door when I tried to get into my room today, and that was a disaster. I'm glad I'm going through the door to heaven by trusting in Jesus!"–Lois A. TeufelHow About You?Did you know that Jesus is the door--the only way--to heaven? Or are you trying to get there some other way? There is nothing you can do to work your way to heaven. You must simply come through the door. Jesus loves you so much He died to save you from sin so you could spend eternity with Him. Trust Him as your Savior today. Pastor Matt Chavez shares how his grandmother's steadfast prayer life and caregiving shaped his faith, pointing to Jesus' words, “Take courage; I am here.” Her example reminds us that God sees, hears, and is present in every season.
Over the last two episodes, I've told you the story of five-year-old Dennis Vaughan Jr., known affectionately as “Boo,” who died in his grandmother's house on Christmas Eve, 2019. Boo's mom, Danielle Vaughan, fought to regain custody of her five kids, all of whom were under the guardianship of Danielle's mother, Sherry Conner. Despite dozens of reports to DCYF, all alleging that Sherry was abusing her grandkids, they weren't removed from her care until after Boo died. Now, you'll hear my conversation with Danielle, who was candid, raw, and honest as she told me about the abuse and the trauma her kids endured in Sherry's home. The details she shared had my jaw on the floor, and after you hear what Danielle has to say, I'm positive you'll be as horrified as I am.This is part three of the heartbreaking story of Dennis “Boo” Vaughan Jr.Justice for Dennis “Boo” Vaughan Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/profile/100090309441118/ Photos related to today's episode can be viewed on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpod You can also follow the podcast on:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sufferthelittlechildrenpodTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@STLCpodMy Linktree is available here: https://linktr.ee/stlcpod Visit the podcast's web page at https://www.sufferthelittlechildrenpod.com. Bible Reading: Genesis 1:27; 1 Peter 1:18-19"I don't get it, Grandpa." Malik scratched his head as he looked at the painting. "What is it?""Well, the title is Three Musicians. Try squinting your eyes and tilting your head." "I think I see a clarinet and a guitar, but the musicians look a little creepy.""That's the beauty of art," said Grandpa. "Everyone sees something different." Malik and his grandparents were spending the afternoon at an art museum. Malik had never seen so many paintings and sculptures. Hundreds of pieces of artwork hung on walls that stretched on for what seemed like miles. "Which painting is your favorite, Malik?" Grandma asked."I'm not sure, Grammy. Some of these paintings look like they were painted by a three-year-old. Other paintings look way better than anything I could paint. If I had to pick my favorite, it might be Three Musicians. I like that you have to think about what you're looking at. How much do you think a painting like that costs?"Grandma shrugged. Grandpa scratched his chin. "I'm sure that painting costs millions of dollars.""Millions of dollars!" Malik couldn't believe it. "It doesn't look that valuable." Grandpa smiled. "It's not valuable because of how it looks. It's valuable because of who made it. Three Musicians was painted by Pablo Picasso, one of the greatest artists of all time. Many people consider it to be one of his masterpieces." Grandma put her arm around Malik. "Every time I come here I can't help but think that none of these masterpieces compare to God's masterpieces.""God's masterpieces?" asked Malik. "Where are God's masterpieces?" Grandma smiled. "Take a look in the mirror.""Me?" Malik asked."You got it. The Bible says God made all of us in His image. We're God's masterpieces. Our value doesn't come from how we look, but from who made us.""That's right," Grandpa chimed in. "The Bible also says God paid a high price for us. He sent His Son to die on the cross to save us from sin. Jesus paid for us with His life so we could belong to Him." Malik took out his phone and snapped a picture of himself with his grandparents. Grandma looked at it and smiled. "Now that's a masterpiece!" –Jared HottensteinHow About You?Have you ever looked in the mirror and seen something you didn't like? Maybe you think your nose is too big or your hair is too curly. The next time you find something about your body you wish you could change, remember that God made you, and He doesn't make mistakes. He made you in His image, and Jesus paid for you with His life. That determines your value--not what you look like. Today's Key Verse:God paid a very high price to make you his. So honor God with your body. (ERV) (1 Corinthians 6:20 )Today's Key Thought:You are God's masterpiece
