On this episode Tim & Josh discuss bluegrass music news, Josh Williams plays an old Gordon Lightfoot song and we have a great conversation with Randall Deaton. Randall Deaton's affinity for making music was apparent from early on, but it was his dedication and devotion that inspired him to form his record label, Lonesome Day Records, and strive to make an indelible mark on the music industry.Randall and Lonesome Day Records have made a triumphant return after a nearly 10 year hiatus. The label's first release since 2015, Silver Bullet Bluegrass is an exceptional tribute to legendary rocker Bob Seger, brought to fruition by an all-star lineup of Bluegrass singers and players. Gary Nichols, Tim Shelton, Shonna Tucker, Bo Bice, Tim Stafford, Bill Taylor, and Larry Cordle are among the artists who contributed vocals to the record. Merging the indelible melodies Bob Seger is famous for with a Bluegrass interpretation is a unique concept, yet both Seger and Bluegrass possess the power of authenticity and inspiring engagement. One might say the two were made for each other.

Inside the Wolf’s Den an Entrepreneurial Journey with Shawn and Joni Wolfswinkel
In this week's fun episode, Shawn and Joni welcome the Inside the Wolf's Den Producers to the podcast to share their true story of entrepreneurial grit. Los Angeles-based filmmaker Dan McMellen sits down with his former business partner Brett Moses, Shawn and Joni's current Director of Marketing, to discuss the successful country music genre independent feature film project the duo spearheaded, wrote, and directed entitled Noble Things. Dan is an Emmy Award-winning television editor helping create such well-known shows as ABC's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, NBC's The Steve Harvey Show, Discovery's Battlebots, and currently, America's Got Talent on NBC. Brett's early acting credits include a stint on the NBC soap opera Passions and Buffy the Vampire Slayer on the WB, Fox's Melrose Place, and popular national campaigns for Pace Picante Sauce and Nissan. The pair share their feelings about going “all-in” with devotion as they invested more than a decade of their lives and overcame tremendous trials and tribulations, creating this gritty independent film. The emotional charged movie stars Ryan Hurst, Michael Parks, Dominique Swain, and Lee Ann Womack. It was a “Top Critics' Pick” at the prestigious Austin Film Festival on its way to an extended run on Showtime and finally debuting on network television as Fox's “Movie of The Week.” The soundtrack for the country music-driven movie was produced by Clay Walker and included notable performances from favorites Mark Chesnutt, Tracy Byrd, Bo Bice, Dob Gray, Tracy Lawrence, and Zona Jones. Now, due to the popularity of the "cowboy" genre niche in today's film and television culture and pandemic-related content supply constraints, the feature film will soon enjoy a second life when it is rereleased on a major streaming platform. Jazz-rock band Blood, Sweat & Tears waited until their second studio album to eponymously name it Blood, Sweat & Tears. This band would defy convention in many ways. It was a large band, boasting nine full-time members, and adding a tenth in trumpet player Alan Rubin for one song. They also played a complex mix of progressive music that would come to be called "jazz-rock." This album would be the first with David Clayton-Thomas on lead vocals, and would spend seven weeks at the top of the album charts. It would also be a critical success, netting the band a Grammy Award for Album of the Year in 1970.Al Kooper, the original band leader and rock legend, started the group. The sound was inspired by the sound of the Buckinghams and Maynard Ferguson. Kooper left after the second album, and David Clayton-Thomas came in as front man. There were over 100 members in Blood, Sweat & Tears over the years, including Bo Bice of "American Idol" fame. The group name came from a Winston Churchill speech.Blood, Sweat & Tears was the number 1 album at the time that the Woodstock music festival was held in August of 1969, and at $15,000 they were the highest paid band to appear at Woodstock behind Jimi Hendrix. For some reason, they decided not to get filmed for the gig, and as a result they are not seen in all the documentaries and retrospectives on that historic concert. It is almost as if Blood, Sweat & Tears were erased from history. On top of that, they didn't get their $15,000 at the end of the concert either!A couple of other factors cause Blood, Sweat & Tears to be overlooked. Their songs tend to be longer during a time when singles were no longer than 3 minutes for radio. They also toured eastern Europe in 1972 to show off rock and roll music, sponsored by the U.S. State Department. The counter culture considered this a sell out, and many of their Vietnam-era protest fans abandoned Blood, Sweat & Tears because of it.Get ready to ride a painted pony and let the spinnin' wheel spin! Smiling PhasesThis very jazzy track is a cover of a song originally done by Steve Winwood and Traffic. The idea is of the song is that you put a smile on no matter what life throws at you. Keep on smiling and moving forward - don't let the obstacles get you down. You've Made Me So Very HappyThis well known track peaked at number 2, and is a cover of a Motown song done originally by Brenda Holloway in 1967. They tried to do this song with Al Kooper on their first album, but Kooper's voice wasn't well-adapted to it. They tried it at a live show with David Clayton-Thomas, and it worked. And When I DieAnother cover that peaked at number 2, this song was written by 17 year-old Laura Nyro and was originally performed by Peter, Paul & Mary. Blood, Sweat & Tears picked up this song when Nyro was dating the bass player. Their cover version went to number 2. It is about recognizing the limited time you have on this earth and making the most of it. That's pretty profound lyrics for a 17 year-old!Spinning WheelThe big single of the album was this well known hit, peaking at - you guessed it - number 2. It compares life to riding on a carousel. Things come and things go, "what goes up must come down." Enjoy the ride. It is known as a novelty act about how the earthquakes in California will cause the whole coast to slide into the Pacific - "you better get ready to tie up the boat in Idaho!" Everyday People by Sly & The Family StoneBrian features a big hit from the fusion group Sly & The Family Stone. Everyone is essentially the same and we need to learn to live together. The group was known for combining musical styles and its members' ethnic diversity during a time of racial tensions. Time of the Season by The ZombiesBruce's staff pick was a surprise hit by the group led by keyboardist Rod Argent and vocalist Colin Blunstone. It took about a year to catch on before hitting number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 in March 1969. It has become sort of a counterculture anthem in pop culture, and is frequently used in Vietnam-era scenes and flashbacks.Rock Me by SteppenwolfWayne's staff pick is a deeper cut, though it hit the charts and peaked at number 10 at the time. Lead singer John Kay wrote this one. It has a deeper meaning as a kind of protest song. Canadian band Steppenwolf was nominated to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2017, though they didn't make it in. INSTRUMENTAL TRACK:Variations On a Theme by Erik Satie (1st Movement) by Blood, Sweat & TearsWe're once again double dipping on our featured album. Blood, Sweat & Tears had a number of instrumental pieces on their albums, and this one is the opening track.

Sharing stories is one of the best ways to motivate, inspire, and compel change. And one of the best ways to share these stories is through film. No other medium can provide a more complete experience. At least so far. In part two of my interview, Bert Hesse shares not only the compelling stories they are currently producing but how all these stories will be shared and experienced in the future. From short-form episodic content specifically designed for our phones to the immersive experience that is the future of virtual reality, part 2 of our conversation discusses what all this will look like in the future and how entrepreneurs who are paying attention can take advantage. Learn how to manage high-level negotiation and hang out with an American idol in the rest of my conversation with Bert Hesse.

On January 20, 2017, we will celebrate a new day in America as Donald J. Trump and Michael R. Pence are sworn in as President and Vice President of the United States of America at the 58th Presidential Inauguration, once again establishing a government of, by and for the people, as we, the people, Make AmeriKKKa Great Again! This week in “reverse racism” news, former American Idol contestant Bo Bice is outraged after being referred to as a “white boy” at a Popeye’s restaurant. Bice, who competed on Season 4 of “American Idol,” complained about the service he received at a Popeye’s in the Hartsfield–Jackson Airport on Monday. In a deleted Facebook post, Bice claimed that he was the victim of “racist behavior” because one female employee said to another, “He’s already got his [order], that white boy over there.” Bice threatened legal action against Popeye’s, and also called out Facebook for allegedly deleting his initial post about the incident. In an interview with Fox 5 news on Tuesday, Bice tearfully recounted his story, saying: “If the tables had been turned and I had used something...and been as insensitive as to say something like that, I would be boycotted. There would be people not buying my albums, there would be people coming and picketing at my shows, and everything else.” Bice, who hasn’t released an album since “3” in 2010 (it sold 11,000 copies), received backlash after the Fox 5 video started making the rounds on social media:
This week we're thrilled to welcome our good friend Tracy Lee Quinn back to the show! We also say goodbye to the Obamas, discuss the Golden Globes, and open the library to read this week's butt-hurt white boy Bo Bice. Plus we answer listener questions about Coachella and closeted friends, share our beverage profiles, chat about the hanky code and recite some amazing poetry from the past, present & future. Enjoy!

We're joined again today by everyone's favorite jar, Franqi French (@FranqiFrench). We start this episode with Andy telling the story of an odd bathroom design he encountered last weekend. Then, we discuss one of Trump's latest questionable cabinet picks. After that, we try to find out why Bo Bice is so sad. Next, we talk about the value of doing comedy in black rooms. And we close out with some thoughts on Bobby Bowden's feelings toward football players who are raised by women, and a tweet that got Steve Martin in trouble.

Former American Idol singer Bo bice was racially profiled by employees at a Popeyes Fried Chicken restaurant at the Atlanta airprot. He was very emotional about it , penned a diatribe on facebook, and even cried on the TV news. Meanwhile, in Chicago, another racially motivated crime, the kidnapping and torture of a young white man, was streamed live on Facebook. the perps keep yelling expletives about Donald Trump which denotes a political motive as well.

Just got off the phone will Bo Bice...from American Idol, now with Blood Sweet and Tears. He's going to celebrate that group's 50 anniversary in 2017. And then, maybe in 2018 he'll get back to his solo stuff. While he loves "going where they point", this father of 4 is always ready to head home to his wife and family. Sweet guy. Bo Bice, who is now performing with Blood Sweat & Tears, chats with us about how it's an incredible feather in his cap to be doing this show.
In all honesty, I didn’t know much about Harvey Citron before our interview. I had met him at a few random events in Woodstock, NY, but we never had an opportunity to get to know each other. And, I knew nothing about his guitars or basses. As I prepped to sit down with him, I quickly picked-up on the care, precision, and thought that he brings to each instrument and to each new design endeavor that he approaches. We had an opportunity to meet at his home, and later, I got to strum a few of Harvey’s guitars. Needless to say, I am now a huge fan! Harvey has been building guitars, basses, and pickups since 1974. In 1975, he co-founded Veillette-Citron, and was a frequent reviewer for Guitar Player, Bass Player, and Guitar World magazines. These are just a few of the players that use Harvey's instruments: Jimmy Vivino, Donovan, John Sebastian, Steve Swallow, and Bo Bice, to name a few.
While suffering from a broken foot, Paul checks in with his old friend Ryan Brown - drummer extraordinaire and current skin beater for Dweezil Zappa's band (the name of which we're not actually printing here because there's some controversy about it - check out the WTF episode with Dweezil for details). Cance is a very scary word in the English language but it is even scarier when your 10-month old child has it. That's what happened to Corey Frizzell when his baby girl was diagnosed with cancer so Corey got together with a few of his friends to create "Lyrics for Lyric" The benefit started out as a way to help cover medical expenses but with the help of artist like Bo Bice, Micheal Peterson and Vince Gill is has grown tremedously.

Rock On Request Magazine interviews Bo Bice. We have wanted to talk with the former American Idol runner up for a long time, and it was well worth the wait. Great interview, talented artist and by far the nicest person we've ever spoken with. Bo fans will love this one.
We covered The 2009 CMA Music Fest, Music of course is the engine that drives the CMA Week downtown however… many other stars get in on the action in other ways too. In this segment we will get started with Jimmy Wayne as he took timeout of his schedule to help collect used instruments to help keep the music playing in Nashville schools. We also catch up with Joey and Rory as they co-hosted a cooking show. Then we meet up with Michael Peterson as he challenged a few of his friends to a celebrity tractor ride. All of this action around town is incredible, but we need to keep in mind the reason the CMA Music Fest started was to give the fans a chance to interact with the stars so we headed over to the Rutledge to Bo Bice’s Fan Club Party.

The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet launched on CBS October 8, 1944, making a mid-season switch to NBC in 1949. The final years of the radio series were on ABC (the former NBC Blue Network) from October 14, 1949, to June 18, 1954. In an arrangement that amplified the growing pains of American broadcasting, as radio "grew up" into television (as George Burns once phrased it), the Nelsons' deal with ABC gave the network itself the right to move the show to television whenever it wanted to do it---they wanted, according to the Museum of Broadcast Communications, to have talent in the bullpen and ready to pitch, so to say, on their own network, rather than risk it defecting to CBS (where the Nelsons began) or NBC. Their sons, David and Ricky, did not join the cast until five years after the radio series began. The two boys felt frustrated at hearing themselves played by actors and continually requested they be allowed to portray themselves. Prior to April 1949, the role of David was played by Joel Davis (1944-45) and Tommy Bernard, and Henry Blair appeared as Ricky. Since Ricky was only nine years old when he began on the show, his enthusiasm outstripped his ability at script reading, and at least once he jumped a cue, prompting Harriet to say, "Not now, Ricky." Other cast members included John Brown as Syd "Thorny" Thornberry, Lurene Tuttle as Harriet's mother, Bea Benaderet as Gloria, Janet Waldo as Emmy Lou, and Dick Trout as Roger. Vocalists included Harriet Nelson, the King Sisters, and Ozzie Nelson. The announcers were Jack Bailey and Verne Smith. The music was by Billy May and Ozzie Nelson. The producers were Dave Elton and Ozzie Nelson. [1]
