CONTENT WARNING: Child Sexual Abuse Christa Lester‐Pitsch is a survivor of an offshoot of the infamous cult known as The Way. She was born into and escaped the high‐control religious group, River Road Fellowship at the age of 23. Christa's main goal in sharing her story is to help people who might find themselves in similar situations as the one she was in. She runs an Instagram page called The Survivor Experience with the hope that others going through similar situations of escaping control and abuse can know that they are not alone. Despite this experience being a big part of her past, and despite her desire to share it, Christa believes that it is one of the less interesting things about her today, Christa is an artist, a musician, and a mom to a spunky little boy. She resides in Bellingham, Washington with her husband Lucas, her son Mason, and their miniature labradoodle, Shiloh. Christa shares with Rachel the intimate emotional details of her life growing up under the authoritarian control of River Road Fellowship, where she struggled to find the autonomy and freedom other kids often take for granted. She explains her thought process as she began to plan her eventual escape and the complications that arose with her familial relationships in the process of gaining her independence as a young woman. Before You Go: Rachel reflects on the desperate measures members of high-control groups have to take in order to simply survive and maintain their rights and autonomy in the face of oppressive control. In this episode of the @luxuriouslyfiercepodcast, I am so excited to have my friend @fenster19 Angie Fenstermacher on the show! Angie grew up in Maine with her parents and 4 siblings - a small town girl with big feelings and lots of insecurities and doubts, which only led to more confusion, depression, and feeling lost on her journey into adulthood. Becoming a mom brought to light a lot of her own trauma, unhealthy patterns, and realizations that the constructs of her life no longer served her. In 2019, Angie began her spiritual journey - moving through divorce, trauma and a breast cancer diagnosis, learning to trust herself, and lots and lots of inner healing. Now in a beautiful place of acceptance, Angie uses her powerful story, alongside her Akashic gifts, to be the light in the dark for others, bringing awareness through soulful connections, bridging the gap within, and guiding you home to your Self. IN THIS EPISODE: >>shame & guilt >>soul connections & finding your people >>allowing yourself to be lost >>finding safety within >>taking back your personal power … and so much more! My given name - Fenstermacher is German and means window maker. I consider myself the window of opportunity. When inside a house or building, a window let's light shine in and shields the elements out. When outside of that house or building, a window shows you the potential of safety inside and the possibility of darkness within. It's all inclusive. It's neither good nor bad; right nor wrong. It just is. We show up in love, open the window, and let the healing flow. I am the window. Tobi Ewing is an artist, maker, guide, and so much more. Her work flows between several mediums at the intersection of art, design, and wellbeing, including painting, textile and fiber art, interior design, storytelling, meditation, and body care. Tobi is personally inspired by the possibilities of divine beauty, imagination, and intentional care – and she uses her art to express a desire to rethink the wellness industry. Growing up as the oldest of three, born to teenage parents, she had the unique experience of feeling like she grew up alongside her parents, while also feeling somewhat like a parent to her two younger siblings. Because her parents had her at such a young age, Tobi had to battle the stigma of being labeled as someone destined for failure from the beginning. She didn't let outside voices sway her resolve. She opened her first solo gallery, The Reappearing Dream, in 2021, and is now at the helm of her own boutique contemporary studio, Frances Bernice Design Studio. She's obsessed with the concept of “bringing the gallery home” – how we can interact with contemporary fine art outside of galleries or museums. Her dream is to make art more accessible and believes that exposure to art can change the trajectory of our lives. It's a colorful and inspiring conversation that I hope kickstarts your own creative mind into building, writing, painting – making something unique this week. What Brett asks: [00:35] Can you tell me about your upbringing and family dynamics? [16:50] How did your life experience begin to shape who you are as a young adult? [27:30] How did you get clear on what you wanted to create without judgment? [35:45] How have you learned to make a career out of art? [40:11] What does it mean to explore art beyond the gallery? USA Today Bestselling author Sariah Wilson has never jumped out of an airplane, never climbed Mt. Everest, and is not a former CIA operative. She has, however, been madly, passionately in love with her soulmate and is a fervent believer in happily ever afters—which is why she writes romance. She grew up in southern California, graduated from Brigham Young University (go Cougars!) with a semi-useless degree in history, and is the oldest of nine (yes, nine) children. She currently lives with the aforementioned soulmate and their children in Utah, along with cats named Pixel, Callie, and Belle who do not get along. (The cats, not the children. Although the children sometimes have their issues, too.)Sariah's book ROYAL DATE was selected as one of the first winners in Amazon's Kindle Scout program. Her novella ROYAL DESIGN helped launch Amazon Publishing's Kindle in Motion technology, and she had her own Kindle World for THE ROYALS OF MONTERRA. Her books THE FRIEND ZONE and ROOMMAID were selected by Amazon as one of the Best Romances of 2019 and 2020, respectively. She has repeatedly hit Amazon's overall Top 100 (both in and outside the USA) and been a #1 bestseller on Amazon category lists multiple times. Her book ROOMMAID was the most read book from Amazon's website in September 2020.

Richard Prum really cares about birds. Growing up in rural Vermont, he didn't know anyone else interested in birding his own age. The experience taught him to rely on his own sense of curiosity and importance when deciding what questions and interests are worth studying. As a result, he has pursued many different paths of research in avian biology — such as behavioral evolution, where feathers come from, sexual selection and mate choice — many of which have led to deep implications in the field. In 2017, Tyler agreed with several prominent outlets that Prum's book The Evolution of Beauty was one of the best books of the year, writing that it “offers an excellent and clearly written treatment of the particulars of avian evolution, signaling theory, and aesthetics, bringing together some disparate areas very effectively.” Richard joined Tyler to discuss the infidelity of Australian birds, the debate on the origins of avian flight, how the lack of a penis explains why birds are so beautiful, why albatrosses can afford to take so many years to develop before mating, the game theory of ornithology, how flowers advertise themselves like a can of Coke, how modern technology is revolutionizing bird watching, why he's pro-bird feeders yet anti- outdoor cats, how scarcity predicts territoriality in birds, his favorite bird artist, how Oilbirds got their name, how falcons and cormorants hunt and fish with humans, whether birds exhibit a G factor, why birds have regional accents, whether puffins will perish, why he's not excited about the idea of trying to bring back passenger pigeons, the “dumb question” that marks a talented perspective ornithologist, and more. Can you have a relationship that constantly renews itself with exciting energy of discovery, or are relationships doomed to honeymoon, flatten out, and die or else become living dead negotiated tolerance? Is it just one hot new move that's needed, or a whole change of attitude? ~ These are some of the great questions we'll start listening to here, and let the answers come from... you! (with a few practical suggestions here from me too) Because everyone has within them a world to discover, and hopefully the person we're in relationship with - whatever kind of relationship - we are with not just for convenience or because we have some idea of who we want them to be, but because we love them! we see them, we want to discover them even as they change, and we do that for ourselves too, and they do that for us. ~ It's a simple magic formula that I guarantee you costs nothing and requires no expert other than yourself and them, and can work forever. But, it requires us to be honest, and very open to life. And, it perfectly coexists with the very important healthy narrowings down we have to comfortable routines, a good groove in lovemaking, and elsewhere in the relationship, so we have energy and focus for elsewhere in our lives too. ~ Comments on this podcast and suggestions for future episodes? This week, we’re bringing you a conversation with Helen Simoneau, artistic director and choreographer of Helen Simoneau Danse. As part of our NC Dance Festival activities this season, we hosted a virtual Community Conversation with Helen on October 23, titled “Finding Your Own Way through the Dance Industry.” During this community conversation on Zoom, we discussed Helen’s beginnings in dance, how to create your own opportunities in the dance world, how the pandemic has shifted Helen’s way of working, and the powerful nature of collaborations in the creative process. You’ll hear questions from some of our attendees and Helen’s advice and insight. In the live conversation, we also had the opportunity to view a short excerpt of Helen’s most recent dance, DARLING. You can view an excerpt here. We had such a great time talking with Helen, and wanted to share this conversation more widely. Lag is a Dj and very respected producer, who is strong in creating grooves and rhythms, often offbeat but still dancefloor oriented. His music has made regular appearances on labels such as Mord, Elements, THEM and lately Upperberry, plus a number of remixes on imprints such as Green Fetish Records, Coincidence Records and Metempsychosis Records. Beside being a strong producer and touring DJ, Lag is also an active supporter of up and coming producers with a Twitch live stream and series of feedback sessions. In this chat, we go deep into making offbeat music, why this may / may not work for everyone, and we explore the beginnings of ‘broken techno’. We talk about holding contrasting opinions with people and we also touch on the subjects of anxiety and depression. If this wasn’t enough for a single podcast (both Lag and I could talk forever!), we explore the natural narcissism that affects creators and the evergreen topic of finding fulfillment. In all of this, what strikes us is not only Lag’s preparation and strong passion for his craft, but also his capacity of not taking things too seriously. Are you struggling with body issues, or finding that your past body issues may be resurfacing during these triggering times? In today's episode, our guest, content creator Chelsea Culbertson, shares with us about her journey toward self-love + body neutrality. Chelsea has been using her space on the internet as a platform to empower her audience to embrace whatever stage of life they're in and become more neutral about their bodies. Neutral meaning, not putting judgment toward. Our bodies are neither good nor bad, they're just bodies. We also discuss her unconventional parenting journey as a young mom and how she used that experience to learn how to quiet the voices of judgment from others. Over time, she has taught herself how to focus on her own voice and learn how to listen to it. The work is never done, and, as we discuss, the comparison never really goes away, but the effort to focus on and listen to her own voice has made a big difference. ~ We also talk about: + Learning that body size isn't connected to happiness + Embracing every stage + Body neutrality + body confidence + Cultivating self-love + Our mindset is what reflects in the mirror + Embracing our unconventional parenting journey + Setting boundaries between ourselves and other people's opinions about your life choices + Understanding that no one knows what they're doing + Knowing there is no one right way to parent + Trying to quiet the voices of judgment + Learning that the cycle of comparison doesn't end ~ RESOURCES: https://www.instagram.com/choosingchelsea/ https://www.iamchoosingchelsea.com/ JOIN THE PARTY! https://www.facebook.com/groups/perfckedparty/ --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/perfcked-podcast/message

We all tend to learn at a different pace, whether its to walk or read or even ride a bike. Eventually we all get there, but at our own pace. When it comes to education we retain information differently, so one student will have an easier or a tougher time over another. As children we tend to develop our own strategies to cope with certain situations and circumstances- even though we don’t quite know we are doing it at the time. These strategies, good and bad, flow in and out of our lives… As the school year gets into full gear- in addition to the normal trials and tribulations of adolescence throw in stigmas, like ADD, ADHD, intellectual disability, learning disorders, and autism spectrums. Pile on top of that, anxiety, depression, bullying, identity issues and you just want to bubble wrap your kids and protect them from harsh realities. Joining us today is Everett Lawrence Adams a clinical and educational psychologist. EL as he is known, is looking to share ideas, philosophies and methods he is using to help our youth thrive from the most difficult of situations, methods like mental health mood and music. More on his practice http://www.elapsychology.com

Most of us tend to be overpackers. We overpack for work trips. For vacations. A night at a hotel. Our closets are overpacked. Garages, basements, and car trunks…all burdened with the load of things we don’t need to carry. The same is true for our souls. We carry burdens we were never designed to carry. A trunk of guilt. A carry-on of shame. A suitcase of anger. A duffel bag of resentment and bitterness. But God has something different. A different plan. A way of living that isn’t quite so burdensome. Join us for a journey through Psalm 23, take a load off, and learn to live with God at the center of everything. It’s time to leave your baggage behind. Listen and discover how.
Annie Riker is an artist and designer who loves exploring mountains, forests, coffee shops, and the unknown. She works from her home studio and lives with her husband and son in beautiful Asheville, NC. For 15 years, she served clients in design firms and ad agencies, and for a big nonprofit in Washington DC. After the birth of her son, she felt a strong desire to spend more time with him—but that meant making the tough decision to leave her big career behind, and it also made her realize how attached she had been to her professional identity. She spent the first year of her son’s life as the primary caretaker while trying to get in a little drawing time during his naps. As much as she adored her new beautiful baby, she felt a loss of identity and missed having time to create. Over time, she gave permission to herself to have both. With dedicated morning time to herself to create art, she feels like a better mother. And having afternoon time to play with her son makes her a better artist. She’s currently working on a personal Asheville illustration project called “100 Reasons I Love Asheville,” which is self-initiated, but in tandem with a global creative movement called “The 100 Day Project.” #The100DayProject is open and free to anyone who wants to create and share something of their own choosing each day for 100 days. Annie loves this 100-day challenge because the energy of knowing so many other people are participating keeps her accountable with a strong reason to follow through (which is hard with self-initiated projects!). While some might see posting daily as a lot of pressure, she feels a release of pressure to make something "perfect" because she just has enough time to keep making and see what happens and maybe edit later. This is Annie’s third year participating in the project. Last year, she created #AnnieChoosesJoy which was an inspirational handlettering project. The year before that, she created #PaintingsOfThingsIKept , a series of watercolor paintings of items that she and her husband kept in their house after going through a 6-month “The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up” decluttering process. YOU’RE NOT LOST. Promise. You, like everyone else, is learning to figure out how to evolve. We talk with the fiery and funny Maxie McCoy, writer and speaker obsessed with giving women the tools they need to believe in themselves. Committed to the global rise of women, she writes weekly inspiration, and packs a punch with her book, You’re Not Lost: An Inspired Action Plan for Finding Your Own Way . . Maxie is a force to be reckoned with (we declare her guest of the year?!) and here’s what we cover in this episode: . 1) What Maxie has learned from interviewing thousands of women (It’ll make you feel so normal.) . 2) Maxie’s candid story of feeling lost and unsure during the release of her book, and how she navigated that challenge. 3) Favorite tools for guidance: surveying closest friends about your capabilities and potential, transcendental meditation, therapy, tuning into the body + so much more 4) #BATSHITGRATEFUL How gratitude can help change your life! Here are some of our favorite quotes from You’re Not Lost… “The highest expression of yourself is doing what you want to do how you want to do it—and being as wildly you as possible while you do.” . . “The goal isn’t to be fearless. The goal is to keep fear from running the show.” . “No matter how many pep talks someone gives you or how much inspiration you read on the internet, there’s only one voice that truly matters: yours. Because no matter what’s happening in your life, the only person in your head is you. There is no one else who can control your thoughts but you. No one else’s positive words matter if you’re regularly and continually ripping yourself apart with negative chatter.” . . “That then will never come. Because there’s absolutely nothing that needs to change about you in order to find your way.” RESOURCES: maxiemccoy.com https://maxiemccoy.com/youre-not-lost/
In this episode: A chat about how there’s nothing "wrong" with feeling lost How to disregard or re-bale your fear Creating a sense of self-belief Listening to your gut Maxie McCoy is a writer and speaker obsessed with giving women the tools they need to believe in themselves. Committed to the global rise of women, she writes weekly inspiration on maxiemccoy.com. She is the author of, "You’re Not Lost: An Inspired Action Plan for Finding Your Own Way". Maxie also specializes in creating meaningful offline experiences that provide practical action in workshop and group formats. She’s worked with top brands, conferences and companies to create original events that engage their target audiences both online and off. Her work has been featured on Good Morning America, TheSkimm, Forbes, Fortune, INC, Bustle, Business Insider, MyDomaine, Women’s Health, Good Housekeeping, Marie Claire, Billboard, CNN and many more as an expert in women’s leadership. Today’s guest is about to blow you away with this topic. I found Maxie because I was searching for books on Audible about feeling lost, or feeling stuck, or feeling imposter syndrome, because of something I was personally experiencing and questions that I get from so many of you. Her book, "You’re Not Lost" is so impactful because we so often create these stories of why we can’t take action, & we get so caught up in our 5-20 year plans, forgetting that the little things we do along the way are going to be the things that get us where we want to be, and Maxie does an amazing job of breaking this down. I can’t wait for you to hear from her & see what you think! Be sure to TAG us both in your IG stories if you vibe with it! “Figure out what energizes you. The things that bring you more joy, more energy, more excitement than not. It does not have to be an end-all-be-all career goal. And ask yourself what’s the absolute smallest thing I can do about this thing that lights me up, and then let it be small and just go do it.” -Maxie McCoy PUMP-UP JAM: Radio Ga Ga by Queen Dreams by Fleetwood Mac Quotes: “If you are feeling lost right now, its okay. Its OKAY… the feelings of being lost are actually a really powerful place of presence to be in.” “If you’re doing something for the first time, which all of us at any height of success have done something for the first time, you don’t know what you’re doing.” “What is today giving you that just rocks, and how can you love that?” “If you don’t know where you’re going & you don’t know what to do next, just look at what you’ve done. And somewhere in that is the data of what the next step should be.” “That’s the difference between successful people & non-successful people, are the ones that consistently show up and consistently do something that they haven’t done in the face of the unknown, versus someone who just talks about it & thinks about it.” Resources: Connect with Maxie on Instagram @maxiemccoy Get her book on Amazon: You’re Not Lost Get yourself a Mini Trampoline If we aren't connected yet be sure to come hang with me on Instagram @kaciafitzgerald and @empowerHERpodcast or online at www.kaciafitzgerald.com Topic or speaker suggestions? Welcome to Secrets of Organ Playing Podcast #88! http://www.organduo.lt/podcast Today's guest is Samuel Delaunay who is an organist, a flutist and an amateur composer from France. Professionally, he is a project manager in a big IT company. Alongside his scientific studies, he started playing the organ at the age of 20 as a self-taught musician. He learned improvisation with Henri-Franck Beaupérin. He took several diocesan organ courses in order to master the repertoire, accompaniment and a first approach to musical writing. At the conservatoire of Nantes, he took a course in musical composition from composer Christian Villeneuve and another in analysis from conductor Jenö Rehak. A master class with composer Thierry Escaich was also an important step of this training. Samuel loves to write for the organ, sometimes with the flute as a solo part. Compositions for serpents, orchestras and choirs widen his sound universe. His pieces are often organized as thematic suites, explorations of scientific or poetic themes. Among many other things we talk about the influence of astronomy and architecture on his creative style as well of the importance of finding your own way in organ composition. Enjoy and share your comments below. And don't forget to help spread the word about the SOP Podcast by sharing it with your organist friends. Thanks for caring. Desire To Trade Podcast | Forex Trading Tips & Interviews with Highly Successful Traders
Finding Your Own Way To Trade w/ Dave Floyd In episode 39 of the Desire To Trade Podcast, I interview a stock & Forex trader I really admire named Dave Floyd, the founder and head of trading at Aspen. Dave started trading in college while he was in Boston. He first read Market Wizards, a book showcasing stories of various successful traders (which I highly recommend!). The interviewed covered several topics, but one of them highly resonated with me. It is the idea of finding your own way as a trader. Once you get through the initial phase of trading, you begin to understand that copying others isn't what will help you succeed. Everybody's different and two traders almost cannot trade the exact same way. You must then find your own way as a trader. Cheat Sheet - Dave Floyd Balancing overtrading vs. not trading enough How to go through the hard learning curve of a trader: it is not about learning strategies from others. The transition between day trading and swing trading: that was a natural transition for Dave. Strategy differences between day trading and swing trading: find someone or a group that can help you in hard times and good times. The biggest mistakes for Dave as a trader: hint: the opposite of overtrading... Following your gut instinct is important but it's not necessarily for beginners. The commonalities between traders: many traders have creative endeavours according to Dave. Approaching stock vs. Forex trading: Dave uses fairly similar approaches. Why you MUST develop your own approach What is one thing you are going to implement after listening to this podcast? Leave a comment below, or join me in the Facebook group! The music at the end of the podcast has been produced by Daniel Hoshor. If you want custom & tailor-made music for your business, make sure to check him out at www.thedannyboiexperience.com.
True happiness: deciding for yourself how to do things. Find out why in today's show.
When someone dies, it creates upheaval in the support system, leading to unfamiliar territory in terms of how to help those with different perceptions and expressions of grief such as language, repetitive gestures or patterning, emotional disconnect, and searching behaviors. Although the outward expression of someone’s grief may be difficult to recognize, the need for their grief to be acknowledged and supported is universal. In this episode, Jana talks with Rebecca Hobbs-Lawrence, a staff member at The Dougy Center, about ways to support children and adults with developmental disabilities in their grief Suggestions for supporting children or adults with developmental disabilities in their grief: Acknowledge the loss by being present and responsive to their verbal and behavioral cues. Affirm that they are not alone, name the support people they have. Maintain a consistent routine as much as possible. Give a lot of advanced notice for when their daily routine may change or be unusual. Facilitate activities or rituals that will acknowledge the grief. This can help children and adults to develop coping strategies and find ways to remember the person who died.
