EPISODE 356: Your Brand vs Your Product – Are You What People Are Buying? Ever wondered how much your business name really matters? Or whether you're spending too much time branding your business and not enough branding you? In this episode, I dive into a brilliant question I was asked during a recent keynote: “How important is the business name if I am the one clients are buying?” If you're a service-based business – coach, celebrant, photographer, personal trainer, social media manager – this one's for you. Because here's the truth: your clients aren't just buying a product, they're buying you. We'll talk about: Why YOU are your biggest marketing asset The power of personal brand over business name What to post when you feel like you're “too professional” to be personal How to show up more as the expert your audience is already looking for This episode is a mindset shift, a confidence boost, and a nudge to start showing up more as you.
In this no-fluff, insight-packed episode of That Will Nevr Work, Maurice Chism sits down with marketing expert and brand strategist John Watson to tackle a question that frustrates entrepreneurs, content creators, and CEOs alike:Why is marketing so hard—and why doesn't it seem to work?John breaks down the real reasons so many people struggle with marketing—from mindset traps and unrealistic expectations to chasing trends instead of truth. Together, they explore how clarity, consistency, and connection can transform your marketing from a stressor into a strength. This episode is for anyone who's throwing money at ads, spinning wheels on social, or feeling like their message is getting lost. It's time to stop guessing—and start connecting.
In today's episode, I sit down with my right-hand and incredible Director of Operations, Morgan Kirk, for an honest conversation about what it really looks like to grow a business with someone by your side. We dive deep into her incredible transformation from a fifth-grade teacher who wanted to stay completely behind the scenes to the powerhouse leader who now runs our entire done-with-you program. We talk about the hard conversations, how we challenge each other as CEO and operator, and what it really looks like when someone chooses growth over comfort. If you're wondering what it looks like to have that essential right-hand person or you've been playing it safe in your own life, this raw, behind-the-scenes look at our relationship will show you exactly what's possible when you're willing to grow.
One of the most powerful things I learned in sales was the transfer of energy. Now, I didn't start off that way. When I first started cold calling and selling advertising for 918moms.com, I had a script and I awkwardly tried to remember it word for word when I was selling to potential clients. It was brutal and it didn't feel authentic to me. One day I decided to ditch the script and just be myself. Guess what happened? Sales started to close. I got more comfortable and actually started to love talking to new people about their marketing. The key here is TALK vs. SELL. I decided to take the pressure off myself and just walk in and have a conversation about how I could help them solve their marketing problems. That is when I discovered I was able to transfer my ENERGY and passion for marketing onto the prospect and it worked! I love marketing and I have seen time and time again where it can change people's business which often changes their lives if it is done right! I began to get more confident and was able to transfer my energy which closed more deals. Are you selling from a place of fear or pressure to get the deal? That nervousness is probably coming through to the person on the other side turning them off. Check out the latest episode of the DO IT MY WAY Podcast where I share my tips on how to transfer your energy to your team, a potential client, even your spouse!
Episode 162 In this episode, I sit down with Brett from Community Wholesale Lending to dive into one of the most powerful down payment assistance programs available today — the DPA100. We break down what makes this program different, how it's helping more buyers get into homes, and why loan officers across the country are adding it to their toolbox. With no income restrictions, non-occupant co-borrowers allowed, manual underwriting, and no first-time buyer requirement, this program removes the barriers that usually kill a deal. If you're looking for a way to increase closings and serve more clients, you don't want to miss this conversation. In this brand spotlight, Alex Quin explores how Diplo, the world-renowned DJ and producer, created a unique blend of fitness and music with Diplo's Run Club. Starting in Miami after a spontaneous half marathon, the idea grew into a multi-city wellness experience where Diplo both runs a 5K and performs a post-race DJ set. This episode breaks down the branding strategy, community engagement, and logistical challenges behind this innovative concept.Episode Outline[00:00] Intro to the show and episode format[00:52] Diplo's background and the birth of Diplo's Run Club[02:12] 2024 San Francisco debut: 11,000 runners, 14,000 partygoers[03:07] Expansion to 8 cities in 2025–2026 season[03:40] Miami 2026 event preview at Bayfront Park[04:01] 3 brand pillars: authenticity, experience-driven marketing, purposeful scaling[05:22] Challenges: balancing celeb image with runner credibility & managing city-wide events[06:14] Wrap-up and final thoughtsWisdom NuggetsDiplo doesn't just slap his name on the brand—he runs every race. This personal involvement makes the brand feel real to both fans and serious runners. The Run Club is more than a 5K. It's an immersive event with music, recovery booths, and media-friendly moments—marketing built into the experience.Scaling wasn't rushed. Diplo partnered with wellness brands and event experts like PlusOne, Mascot Sports, and Wasserman to keep the mission clear while expanding.Balancing Diplo's celebrity persona with the expectations of authentic runners is tricky. Success lies in walking both lines without alienating either group. The blend of music, movement, and shared post-run celebration creates a lasting impression that fuels loyalty and word-of-mouth.Power Quotes:“Diplo's Run Club expanded to eight major cities in a single season.” – Alex Quin “Scaling with purpose means aligning with the right partners from the start.” – Alex QuinConnect With Diplo Run Club :Website: (https://diplosrunclub.com/)Connect With the Podcast Host Alex Quin:Instagram: (https://www.instagram.com/alexquin)Twitter: (https://twitter.com/mralexquin)LinkedIn: (https://www.linkedin.com/in/mralexquin)Website: (https://alexquin.com)TikTok: (https://www.tiktok.com/@mralexquin)Our CommunityInstagram:(https://www.instagram.com/hustleinspireshustle)Twitter: (https://twitter.com/HustleInspires)LinkedIn: (https://www.linkedin.com/company/hustle-inspires-hustle)Website: (https://hustleinspireshustle.com)*This page may contain affiliate links or sponsored content. We talked about redefining success, releasing the hustle, rekindling intimacy, and what it looks like to be in a season of unknowns. If you've ever questioned what's next after “having it all,” this episode is going to hit home.
Send us a textWondering whether you need to disclose when AI helped you write a blog, email, or proposal? You're not alone—and this episode is your permission slip to stop second-guessing.In this solo milestone episode, I (Kendra Corman) explore one of the most common questions I get from clients and students: “Do I have to cite AI if I used it to write something?”As someone who's been ghostwriting for decades and now leans on AI to streamline my work (without letting it take over), I break down when to cite, when not to, and why the intent behind your prompt matters more than the tool itself. We cover:
When I first started D2 Branding, the #1 thing I was tracking was my revenue! After all, we are in business to make money, which lets us make an impact on those we love. My goal was to reach $100,000 a month and become a MILLION DOLLAR BUSINESS! That sounded so great! Once we hit that goal, I was so excited but also confused on why I didn't have extra money in the account. The problem: my expenses were way too high! Instead of tracking revenue you need to also track net profit, which is your most important number! How much money are you making after all of your expenses are paid? There are also many key KPIs to track like the lifetime value of a customer. How long are your customers staying with you? Do they leave after the first transaction or are you able to retain them for years? This is a big indicator on the return on investment for the cost to acquire them. If you lose money the first month you acquire them but make money over the next 12 months, it is worth it! Check out the latest episode of the DO IT MY WAY Podcast where I share the key performance indicators you should be tracking.
Are you sitting on the dream of starting your jewelry business but waiting until things feel “perfect”? This episode is your sign to just start. I sat down with Alanna Boss, the inspiring founder of Boss Eclectic, who launched her jewelry business less than a year ago and has already landed in retail stores, hosted events, and built a growing brand. What makes Alanna's story so powerful isn't just how far she's come—it's how fast she moved, all while working full-time in a high-pressure legal job. We talk about overcoming fear, getting scrappy, and trusting your instincts. If you're stuck in overthinking mode, this episode will give you the clarity, courage, and conviction to take your first (or next) big step. What You Will Learn in this Episode: Why taking fast, imperfect action beats waiting for the “right time” How to build your business while juggling a full-time job The mindset shifts that helped Alanna get into retail stores within months How community and mentorship can fast-track your growth Topics Discussed: Alanna's decision to start Boss Eclectic Overcoming fear of visibility and selling Juggling entrepreneurship and a full-time legal career Joining the Jewelry Business Academy Building confidence through community The biggest lessons from her first 8 months in business __________________________ Feeling stuck in the corporate grind? We have all been there, you are the founder of your company and sometimes you feel like the only one who can do all of the tasks and the one that cares the most. One of the hardest transitions in my career has been going from a founder to a CEO. Many times as founders we are solopreneurs doing everything for the business until we are able to hire our first team member. It can be hard to transition from doer to thinker! If you do not spend time each week strategically thinking of how to grow and scale your business, it is not going to happen. You don't have time to think about strategy and vision when you are stuck in the day to day tasks. This is where your team comes in! Empower them to do the job and delegate the day to day tasks. I found out once I did this, I had more time to be the visionary in the business and guess what? They were way better at those tasks than me! I tell my team all of the time, if a process in our business involves me, it will probably be messed up! Now is the time to shift from being a founder and start to make decisions as a CEO. Learn from me what to do and more importantly what not to do on the latest episode of the DO IT MY WAY Podcast!
Episode 161 In this episode, I sit down with Steve Kyles to talk about a powerful moment from a recent Loan Officer Breakfast Club call featuring Joanne Johansen. After 30 years in the business, Joanne is having her best months ever—closing over 13 loans a month—and what impressed us most was her mindset. She said she's willing to be coached. That's rare in our industry, especially among seasoned LOs who may believe coaching "doesn't work." But maybe it's not that coaching doesn't work—maybe it just hasn't been the right coaching.
