Åter i Varbergs trivsammaste kök för att, precis som utlovat, prata om några väl valda Lovecraft-adaptioner, nämligen The Resurrected av Dan O'Bannon och The Whisperer in Darkness av Sean Branney. Welcome to the season 3 premiere of Spill Your Guts! I'm your host, Kevin Lane. We've be on hiatus for a couple months while I was attending film festivals near and far and sitting down with some of the genres best to share with all of you in this new season. And if I may so myself, it's sure to be some of our best episodes yet. Some upcoming things to look out for our episodes on the great Fantasia Film Festival in Montreal where we watched some terrifying and crazy new movies and had the opportunity to sit down with the filmmakers and do the SYG thing. We also have a special episode coming up on filmmaker and Stop Motion animation legend David Allen who's Magnum opus “The Primevals” is finally completed and seeing the light of day after 30 years. It's an amazing story about one of the genres great unsung heroes. I should also point out some changes you will notice about the show. We will now be dropping new episodes every other week as opposed to weekly to allow ourselves a little more time to produce each episode. The seasons will be a little longer to make up for it though so you'll still get just as much SYG. Also, we will be dropping more bonus episode and surprise guests. In this episode I am joined by one one of the genres great composers. A composer who has a sound and feel like none other and has brought us equal parts wonder and terror with his score for classics like Re-Animator, Trancers, From Beyond, Ghoulies, Puppet Master and the Pit and the Pendulum. And that's just a small selection from the list of classic movies that have been scored by the one and only, Richard Band. Richard is a true virtuoso! His music has a signature and a life to it that immediately ups the ante of any film privileged enough to have him on board as the composer.Well, that's it, now it's time to get into it.  Oh and just one more thing… we have something very exciting brewing for you all for Halloween. HAPPY FRIDAY THE 13TH and let's spill some guts! ★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★

The Man, The Myth, The Legend: Charles Band Is The Celebrated King of B Horror MoviesIn the world of horror, there are a handful of great showmen whose influence has had such an impact on the world of genre film that they changed the way horror films were made. These are people whose innovation, creativity, business acumen and courage have given of us some of the most influential and iconic genre movies of all time. People who see every obstacle as just another opportunity to show that they will not take “no” for an answer when it comes to getting their vision out in the world. I'm talking about people like Roger Corman, Robert Shaye and Lloyd Kaufman. For us at SYG, and many other fans of the weird and fantastic, there is really only one man who reigns supreme. The King of gonzo filmmaking. The legendary Charles Band. And when we say legendary, it's not an exaggeration. Charles Band's insanely prolific output of horror and sci-fi films is beyond comprehension. Many of them made on a shoestring budget. Many of them great. Most of them weird. All of them, and we're talking nearly 400 films, willed into existence by a man whose infectious positivity and otherworldly talent for creating something that most would think couldn't be done.Whether through his company Empire Pictures, who made classics like Ghoulies, Robot Jox and Trancers, or Full Moon Entertainment - who in the 90's gave us genre classics like the Puppet Master series, Subspecies, Pit and the Pendulum and Demonic Toys - Charles Band continues to be the ultimate showman to this day.Charles and host Kevin Lane talk about his early days on set with his father, Albert Band, how the world of independent genre filmmaking has changed since he began, his love of bringing to life inanimate objects, and what the future holds in store for Full Moon.Kevin adores Charles Band. When he first discovered Full Moon in the early 90's, it was a game changer for him. At the end of every Full Moon movie there was a "making of" segment where Charlie would tell you what was going on with Full Moon and then we'd get to see interviews with the filmmakers and on-set footage of the movies being made. This is WAY before DVD and the idea of special features being a part of your home video experience. Videozone became Kevin's film school and he's sometimes wonder if he would have pursued a career in film if it wasn't for Charles Band giving him that window into the process. This episode is especially exciting as we have permission from the great Richard Band for the special music cues we've used. You'll notice that we've used a modernized version of the classic Puppet Master theme that Richard did for the film “Puppet Master: Axis Termination over Kevin's intro to the episode. We've used the Full Moon's Video Zone theme to transition from Kevin's intro into into the conversation. Videozone was a “making of“ featurette included at the end of all Full Moon movies released during the Paramount eta (early 90's)We've also added the “Full Moon vs Full Moon” main theme from Charles Band‘s hit 1985 film “Ghoulies” which was a surprise success at the box office and has an incredibly famous poster. The film was made under Charles' company Empire Pictures which was a precursor to Full Moon.As always, Charles Band was way ahead of his time. Okay dudes, it is with great pleasure that we present to you the man himself, Charles Band.Get bonus content on Patreon Hosted on Acast. Established by producer and director Charles Band in 1986, Empire Pictures quickly became notorious for the horror-comedy classics made during its brief but legendary lifespan. With wild special effects, outrageous humour and over-the-top horror action Ghoulies, Troll and TerrorVision were three of Empire Pictures finest works, and each movie featured an unforgettable score by Charles' award-winning composer brother Richard Band. Now, these scores have been carefully remastered and are presented for the very first time on half-speed mastered, limited-edition 180g coloured vinyl in stunning packaging with liner notes from the composer. Ghoulies features the full uncut original soundtrack, available for the first time ever, and includes a bonus 7inch featuring Fela Johnson’s "Dancing with a Monster" and "Surrender" as heard in the movie. Troll features the complete soundtrack, and TerrorVision features the special director’s cut soundtrack. Each release is housed in a gatefold sleeve with full movie gallery, OBI belt, and random video store stickers, plus full liner notes by Band. We spoke with Richard Band via Zoom about his career and these amazing reissues.

One was a direct-to-video rehash of a fledgling studio's biggest success; the other, was a multimillion dollar behemoth that should have taken the world by storm. How do they compare? This is our first "VERSUS MODE" episode, and we plan to pit more comparable movies against each other in the future. Please let us know what you think! Demonic Toys, released 1992, was shot on a shoestring budget with handpuppets. These puppets would go on to make cameo appearances in The Dollman vs. The Demonic Toys, The Puppet Master vs. The Demonic Toys, Devil Dolls, The Haunted Dollhouse, and Evil Bong and ultimately get their own sequel 18 years later in The Demonic Toys 2: Personal Demons. The puppets were actually referenced in Krampus, with very similar toys, with the same penchant for bloodshed. The film was written by David S. Goyer (Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, Dark City, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Nick Fury: Agent of Shield, Blade, Blade II, Blade Trinity, Jumper, Ghostrider Spirit of Vengeance... are you seeing a theme here?). Goyer's story involves a demon, trapped in a nether realm, trying to possess the unborn, bastard child of a recently widowed police officer. Charles Band, head of Full Moon Films, produced this film, as he had 304 others. If you compiled all the budgets to his films, you still might not even total the budget of its competitor on this episode: Small Soldiers. His brother, Richard Band, did the music. Totally appropriate name, right? Now Small Soldiers had a budget of $40,000,000. It was directed by the prolific Joe Dante (Gremlins, The Howling). Stan Winston (Terminator, Predator, Alien) designed and made the titular Small Soldiers. It had the amazing orchestration of Jerry buttfucking Goldsmith (Star Trek, Jurassic Park, Rambo). The film also spawned a toy line and multiple video games. The film pits the Commando Elite (basically G.I. Joes) against the Gorgonites (kinda think Masters of the Universe... oh, and Frank Langella who played Skeletor plays the Gorgonite leader, Archer!). Blah blah, technobabble, the animatronic toys actually go crazy in an imperialist quest to subjugate and destroy the monster toys, upheaving a suburban town. Sadly, this was Phil Hartman's last film. Aside from being about 30 minutes too long, this was a decent sendoff to a comedy legend. Comedy powerhouses Jay Mohr, David Cross, and Denis Leary create a great backdrop to to a mosaic of special effects and mayhem. As we contrast the two, we discuss special effects, plot/ story, cinematography, acting, directing, music, basically everything that makes a movie not suck. Joel Goldsmith was the eldest son of legendary and Academy Award winning composer, Jerry Goldsmith. He began scoring films in the late seventies and is best known for his work on the Stargate spin-off TV series’ and films. Over the course of his career, Goldsmith created fantastic music for numerous films, TV shows and video games such as LASERBLAST (co-composed with Richard Band), MOON 44, SHILOH, STAR TREK: FIRST CONTACT (written alongside his father), KULL THE CONQUEROR, DIAMONDS, CALL OF DUTY 3 and more. Just in time for Christmas! Welcome back to the Horror 101 podcast! We always say that 1985 was the most entertaining year for horror. And Re-Animator is certainly NO exception. When you have Stuart Gordon directing a Brian Yuzna film starring Jeffrey Combs and Barbara Crampton, you cannot do wrong. Based off a Lovecraft story of science run amok, Re-Animator is a pioneering zany gore flick which has something for everyone. The horror effects are stunning, the acting is excellent. The attention to detail by the crew that made this film was second to none. This was the movie that put Jeffrey Combs on the map. If you've never seen him as Herbert West then you're missing out. We dare you to find another flick made for under a million dollars thats as good as Re-Animator. TerrorVision is an 1986 American science fiction horror comedy that's achieved some notoriety in cult film circles. The film is directed by Ted Nicolaou, produced and written by Albert and Charles Band and composed by Richard Band, all of whom would go on to later found and work with Full Moon Features in 1989. This is a fun one on today's episode of the Really Awful Movies Podcast: A family's new satellite television system starts receiving signals from another planet and picks up a giant, bloated alien with an appetite for garbage. The movie was written and directed by the sound recording guy from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. The subplot: the mother and father are swingers and place an ad in a newspaper to romance another couple and get more than they bargained for. The rebellious teen daughter has a boyfriend, OD, whose fashion sensibilities are Sunset Strip 80s metal through and through. The young kid is an expert marksman and his grandpa is a gun-toting NRA type. TerrorVision was released on DVD with The Video Dead double feature. Find more reviews www.reallyawfulmovies.com

The day they thought would never happen is finally here. The clockwork machinery of the gods themselves rolled away and revealed a blinding light, from which poured a host of a host of creatures both fair and foul. All of that number were beyond mortal understanding, but they all cried out with a single human voice: YOU WERE WRONG. And so it was, that as the seas boiled and the sun and moon reversed their paths through the firmament, did these two Mappers set out to admit this final damning truth, even if the planes be rent asunder forever and all lives both player-driven and peripheral be cast into the deepest of voids.
