Today's episode brings routesetter Ethan Paris to the recording studio. Paris comes from a film and creative background, giving him a unique perspective on how routesetters operate in a space that can be defined half by art and half by design. Hailing from the Northeast, he moved to Colorado in 2024 to set at the Climbing Collective gyms in Longmont, Loveland and Greeley. Paris is a USAC Level 2 routesetter and has set for over 20 local and USAC competitions nationwide. He's also participated in the Setter Showdown in Hawaii, taken setting clinics in London, and hopes to one day set for national-level events. Host Holly Chen talks to Paris about the prevalence of imposter syndrome in the routesetting industry. They explore the origins and characteristics of the phenomenon, from the term's conception in 1978 to how imposter syndrome impacts today's modern routesetting community. They talk about how it manifests across the gender spectrum, and how difficult it can be to overcome. Finally, they discuss how community is often the ticket out. Today, I am blessed to have Dr. David Harper here with me. As an educator, researcher, and health consultant, Dr. David Harper has studied the impact of diet on human health for many years. The culmination of that extensive work is the BioDiet, a well-formulated ketogenic plan that works with the body's natural processes to improve health and reverse decades of damage caused by our collective carbohydrate addiction. Dr. Harper and Dale Drewery adopted the BioDiet in 2012 and the weight loss and health improvements they experienced led him to counsel hundreds of people on the Biodiet with similarly consistent and impressive results. In this episode, we cover everything from the potential benefits of ketogenic diets for metastatic breast cancer patients to the intricate workings of the immune system and the therapeutic potential of dietary interventions. Dr. Harper's insights provide a fascinating journey through the complex interplay between diet, metabolism, and disease, offering hope and new perspectives on health and wellness. Tune in as we chat about how ketogenic diets offer a promising therapeutic approach for cancer treatment and neurological conditions by moderating glucose levels, promoting mitochondrial turnover, and enhancing cellular health through AMPK activation and arachidonic acid modulation. In this solo episode, Alexa dives into the common struggles of imposter syndrome, low confidence, and feeling overwhelmed that many singing teachers face. As an experienced voice instructor and singer herself, Alexa shares personal stories and insights on managing these challenges in your teaching career and life. Learn how to overcome negative self-talk, build your confidence both in and out of the studio, and avoid burnout through self-care and planning.  KEY TAKEAWAYS Imposter syndrome, low confidence, and overwhelm are common among singing teachers. Imposter thoughts prevail due to isolation, comparison, and teaching observations. These feelings stem from self-doubt, fear of judgement, and perfectionism. Strategies like reframing thoughts and celebrating achievements can counter imposter syndrome. Perspective-taking and building a support network are beneficial. Despite accomplishments, imposter syndrome affects individuals across fields, emphasising the importance of sharing experiences for community support. You can build a support network by joining online communities and forums, attending conferences, and seeking mentorship. Forming mastermind groups, scheduling catch-ups, and following inspirational accounts on social media offer additional support. Investing in a coach and being open with students about imposter feelings can also aid in managing challenges. BEST MOMENTS  "100% of them reported having felt imposter syndrome, low confidence and overwhelm." "The most common intrusive thoughts reported include 'Just quit. EDMR, Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing is a psychotherapy treatment that was originally designed to alleviate the distress associated with traumatic memories. Repeated studies show that by using EMDR therapy people can experience the benefits of psychotherapy that once took years to make a difference. It is widely assumed that severe emotional pain requires a long time to heal.  EMDR therapy shows that the mind can in fact heal from psychological trauma much as the body recovers from physical trauma. In this episode we feature expert Marisol Solarte-Erlacher, M.A., LPC. iMarisol Solarte-Erlaches a trauma expert, speaker and trainer specializing in post-traumatic growth and resilience. She is also the creator and host of the podcast Resilience and Resistance, which features successful Black, Indigenous, and Women of Color who have overcome trauma and become resilient. Síndrome da Impostora, você tem psi? A ex-primeira dama dos Estados Unidos, Michelle Obama, tem, será que você também? Este fenômeno foi descrito pela primeira vez em 1978, em um artigo escrito pelas pesquisadoras americanas Pauline R. Clance e Suzanne A. Imes, cujo título é “The Impostor Phenomenon in High Achieving Women: Dynamics and Therapeutic Intervention”.

Abstract: Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a synapse-related disorder that is diagnosed at around 3 years of age. Earlier intervention is desirable for better ASD prognosis; however, there is limited biological literature regarding early-age ASD. This study aimed to assess altered cortical synapses and gene expression in the ASD model marmoset. There were distinct phenotypes in the model animals across the neonate, childhood, and mature stages in the dorsomedial prefrontal cortex (Brodmann area 8b/9). At the neonate stage, synapses were underdeveloped and modulated genes were enriched with synaptogenesis- and ASD-related genes. At the childhood stage, synaptic features and gene expressions associated with experience-dependent circuit remodeling were altered in model animals. At the mature stage, there were synapse overdevelopment and altered gene expression similar to those in human ASD. These early synaptic phenotypes and altered gene expressions could be novel targets of efficient therapy from a young age. Copy rights belong to original authors. Visit the link for more info

The Secret Thoughts of Successful Women: Why Capable People Suffer from the Impostor Syndrome and How to Thrive in Spite of It”.  Si te interesa este tema puedes conseguir mas información acerca de este síndrome en el internet. Today we talk to Dr. Adele Hite about her herculean effort to co-ordinate the compilation of the document outlining Clinical Guidelines for Therapeutic Carbohydrate Restriction for us.  Once we established the panel of advisers she set about creating the draft of the document and then bouncing it off the panel over and over until we were happy that we had it to the point where it could be published.  This is a massive step towards establishing the Standard of Care for the prescription of Carbohydrate Reduction as a Therapeutic Intervention.  That has been our main focus since about April 2018 and this document is a brilliant starting point for the conversations that will eventually lead to a consensus and an SoC for practitioners using this lifestyle intervention in their practice. What's more exciting is that we have been approached by numerous people to translate it into several different languages.  At this time we have published the Clinical Guidelines for Therapeutic Carbohydrate Restriction in German and Portuguese and Spanish, French, Dutch and Indonesian are close behind.  We envisage translation into many other languages in the future. We plan to never insert commercials in our podcasts, but the work we do to put on these educational events, build the community and develop and maintain the Clinical Guidelines is not sustainable without your support.  Please consider becoming a patron.  Even the smallest contribution helps! Show Notes for Genuine Driven Women Episode #14 Don’t Tell Anyone, but I’m in Over my Head! Welcome to the “Genuine Driven Women” podcast, the show where we guide women to reveal their strengths so they believe and can achieve their desired greatness!  Today’s episode is called, Don’t Tell Anyone, but I’m in Over my Head.  We discuss Impostor Syndrome and how to deal with it. MAIN TOPIC To start, I’d like to read a poem, titled Our Deepest Fear, by Marianne Williamson.  Really focus on the words, and if you need to listen again, as I did the first time I heard it – this episode will always be here for you.     Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others. _____________ Have you heard of “Impostor Syndrome”? It is that feeling, that fear, that someone is going to figure out that you are not as smart or as capable as they first thought, even though you have proven to be very successful and capable to this point.   This is VERY common, up to 70% of all women and men deal with it. Today, we give you concrete steps to DEAL WITH IT. You may even have the grades, the awards, the salary, and a long list of accomplishments to back yourself up, but still – that nagging belief that you shouldn’t be where you are, continues to haunt you.   In fact, Impostor syndrome really only occurs in High Achievers.  It is not a problem for Low Achievers. So, if you have been feeling like a fraud, it probably only means you have high standards for yourself. As Marianne Williamson’s poem inferred, you should have high standards for yourself, for you were created to let your own brilliance shine. One of the earliest references to this phenomenon was in 1978, in a Georgia State University research paper titled, The Impostor Phenomenon in High Achieving Women: Dynamics and Therapeutic Intervention, written by Pauline Rose Clance and Suzanne Imes.   In the book, The Confidence Code, written by Katty Kay and Claire Shipman (TV News journalists), They said, “We should star in our own production. Often, women just seem to have the spotlight thing backward. We want to shine a bright light on our faults, insecurities, and the outlandish reasons we will surely fail, but when it comes to taking credit or enjoying our triumphs, we step into the shadows, looking at our accomplishments as though we’ve never seen them before.”     Time Machine:   In this segment each week we will give a few points about women that have accomplished a lot! We also will discuss a bit about what was happening to women during the time periods. Someone we think you would like to know more about is: Malala Yousafzai   Inspirational Quote of the Week: “Try to be a rainbow in someone’s cloud.” -Maya Angelou I really enjoyed this quote when I read it because in many people’s day to day lives we see people that may be sad or they just look like they need a little boost and we can give those people what they need. When I am feeling blue just one nice gesture brightens my mood, even if it is just a “Hi, how are you?”. So I challenge you all this week to be a rainbow to one person who is looking a bit cloudy! Book Review: Genuine driven women read lots of books!  We’ll make sure to recommend a book each week that will inspire you or help you on your journey to success! This week’s book is: The Invisible Leader By Zach Mercurio If you’d like to buy this book in any format, including the audiobook version for less than $10.00, click this link:  https://amzn.to/2DZ4sqD This book discusses why we should leverage the fundamental human search for purpose and meaning, and how that purpose - rather than any one person, is what truly leads and motivates people to do their best.  This book will help today’s leaders, educators, and parents discover, clarify, and deliver their reason for existence―their authentic purpose, and to help those they lead find it for themselves. "The Invisible Leader" is a unique and compelling combination of practical tools, storytelling, research, and case studies which form the basis of a powerful new approach to leadership. This event will explore the areas in which the philosophy of mind and ethics or the philosophy of value come into contact with issues about mental health. Presented by the Faculty of Philosophy and the Department for Continuing Education, this event will explore the areas in which the philosophy of mind and ethics or the philosophy of value come into contact with issues about mental health. Philosophy of psychiatry includes within its ambit questions about the nature of mental disorder as distinct from purely neurological disorder, questions about the psychological conditions required for moral responsibility and legal culpability, and questions about the appropriate kinds of explanations that can be provided for mental disorder. Addressing these questions requires drawing on the resources of many branches of philosophy, including legal philosophy, ethical theory and philosophy of value, philosophy of science, and philosophy of mind and psychology.

Increased expression of 5-hydroxytryptamine(2A/B) receptors in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis: a rationale for therapeutic intervention

Medizin - Open Access LMU - Teil 17/22

Background Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) has a poor prognosis and limited responsiveness to available treatments. It is characterised by epithelial cell injury, fibroblast activation and proliferation and extracellular matrix deposition. Serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine; 5-HT) induces fibroblast proliferation via the 5-HTR2A and 5-HTR2B receptors, but its pathophysiological role in IPF remains unclear. A study was undertaken to determine the expression of 5-HT receptors in IPF and experimental lung fibrosis and to investigate the effects of therapeutic inhibition of 5-HTR2A/B signalling on lung fibrosis in vivo and in vitro. Methods and results Quantitative RT-PCR showed that the expression of 5-HTR1A/B and 5-HTR2B was significantly increased in the lungs of patients with IPF (n = 12) and in those with non-specific interstitial pneumonia (NSIP, n = 6) compared with transplant donors (n = 12). The expression of 5-HTR2A was increased specifically in IPF lungs but not in NSIP lungs. While 5-HTR2A protein largely localised to fibroblasts, 5-HTR2B localised to the epithelium. To assess the effects of 5HTR(2A/B) inhibition on fibrogenesis in vivo, mice were subjected to bleomycin-induced lung fibrosis and treated with the 5-HTR2A/B antagonist terguride (or vehicle) in a therapeutic approach (days 14-28 after bleomycin). Terguride-treated mice had significantly improved lung function and histology and decreased collagen content compared with vehicle-treated mice. Functional in vitro studies showed that terguride is a potent inhibitor of transforming growth factor beta(1)- or WNT3a-induced collagen production. Conclusion The studies revealed an increased expression of 5-HTR2A specifically in IPF. Blockade of 5-HTR2A/B signalling by terguride reversed lung fibrosis and is thus a promising therapeutic approach for IPF.
