Darkness Radio Presents: Disclosure Day Pre-game & The Occult Elvis: The Mystical and Magical Life of the King with Podcaster/Author Miguel Connor!Writer and researcher Miguel Conner reveals how Elvis was a profound mystic, occultist, and shaman. Beginning with the unusual circumstances of his birth—and his stillborn twin brother—Conner traces the diverse thread of mysticism that runs through Elvis Presley's life, drawing on firsthand accounts from the people closest to him, including his wife, Priscilla, the Memphis Mafia, and his spiritual advisors. Conner argues that Elvis was well-versed in the esoteric practices of sex magic, meditation, astrology, and numerology and had a deep familiarity with Kabbalah, Gnosticism, Theosophy, and Eastern traditions. He also reveals how Elvis was a natural healer, telekinetic, psychic, and astral traveler who had significant mystical experiences and UFO encounters. Looking at the conspiratorial and paranormal aspects of Elvis's life, the author explores the "Elvis visitations" that have occurred since the King's death and the general high weirdness of his life. As Conner convincingly argues, Elvis was not just a one-of-a-kind rock-and-roller. He was the greatest magician America ever produced. On Today's Show, we hype you up for tomorrow's big release of the summer blockbuster, Disclosure Day, by interviewing someone who was waiting in line for the screening and getting their thoughts on the movie and the real Disclosure Day! Then, we talk to Miguel Connor about whether Elvis was always destined to become who he was and what shaped his spirituality. some of the occult practices Elvis got into, and his abilities... and some of the appearances Elvis made... after he died!Learn more about Miguel Conner here: https://www.miguelconner.com/Check out Miguel's podcast (Aeon Byte Gnostic Radio) here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC67NBVrem2dRsYUreRyjSsA/feedThere are new and different (and really cool) items all the time in the Darkness Radio Online store at our website! . check out the Darkness Radio Store! https://www.darknessradioshow.com/store/Want to be an "Executive Producer" of Darkness Radio? “I do live here and now, but I often think about the past. But then again, I think a lot of people do. So I think writers, what are they going to draw on?”Mark Savage speaks to musician Paul McCartney.Born in Liverpool, England, during the Second World War, he found fame as a member of the legendary British band The Beatles in the 1960s, widely regarded as one of the most influential acts in music history.McCartney shared primary singing and songwriting duties with bandmate John Lennon, and along with George Harrison and Ringo Starr, the four-piece became a global pop music sensation with hits such as Twist and Shout, Yesterday and Hey Jude. They remain one of the best-selling musical acts of all time alongside the likes of Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson.McCartney was knighted for his services to music in 1997, but despite his huge achievements, the 83-year-old seems to be showing no interest in retirement — he's releasing his 19th solo album. The Boys of Dungeon Lane is inspired by his experiences growing up in post-war Liverpool, during which a young McCartney, carrying a guitar and wearing a bowler hat to catch attention, would hitchhike with John Lennon to places as far away as Paris. The Interview brings you conversations with people shaping our world, from all over the world. Ffilm 4 munud a 2 eiliad o hyd a wnaed gan Peter Finnemore yn 2004 yw Eve of Destruction. Mae'r ffilm yn dechrau gyda llwyfan byrfyfyr gwag mewn gardd werdd ar brynhawn llachar yn yr hydref. Mae slab concrit hindreuliedig mawr wedi'i osod yn y glaswellt ac mae lein sychu â dillad arni yn siglo yn y cefndir. O flaen y slab y mae blodyn haul mewn pot terracotta a dim ond tair deilen yn hongian yn is na'i flodyn uchaf, sy'n wynebu oddi arnon ni. Yn eistedd ar y slab i'r dde o'r blodyn haul y mae cath lliw llwyd a gwyn o flaen dau flwch plastig glas mewn pentwr a gerllaw potel gwrw werdd. Yn portreadu cymeriad sy'n dynwared Elvis Presley, mae'r artist Peter Finnemore yn cyrraedd mewn modd comig i'r chwith, gan wisgo dillad cuddliw gwyrdd llawn, sbectol haul a wig Elvis wrth iddo ddechrau dawns sy'n dynwared y canwr. Mae'n defnyddio'r blodyn haul canolog fel microffon ffug, gan efelychu ystumiau eiconig Elvis a meimio i'r gân Eve of Destruction, a gyfansoddwyd gan P. F. Sloan ac yntau'n 19 oed ym 1965, ond sydd fwyaf adnabyddus oherwydd fersiwn Barry McGuire. Ysgrifennwyd y gân yn arddull Bob Dylan a denwyd Finnemore gan ansawdd ingol geiriau rhywun yn ei arddegau. Mae'r seremoni roc a rôl yn arwain at ddiweddglo llawn symudiadau wrth i Peter dynnu'r blodyn haul o'i bot a'i guro droeon ar y concrit, gan gicio'r blodyn tuag aton ni a siglo'r coesyn yn ffyrnig o gwmpas ei ben cyn ei falu ar y llawr a'i daflu aton ni yn y diwedd a cherdded i ffwrdd i'r dde. Meddai Finnemore: “Mae'r gwaith hwn yn rhan o'r gyfres Zen Gardener, a archwiliodd breifatrwydd man gardd i gynnal perfformiad, gweithgarwch artistig, darlunio a dychymyg. Mae'n bwysig bod y gyfres hon yn adlewyrchu ei chyfnod hanesyddol drwy'r perfformiadau absẃrd. Gwnaed y gyfres yn ystod yr ail ryfel yn Irac, a gafodd ei gyfiawnhau gan luoedd gwleidyddol ar seiliau ffug.” Dangoswyd Eve of Destruction yn gyntaf yn 2004 fel rhan o'r arddangosfa Zen Gardener yn Oriel Mostyn.

Elvis Presleys Hüftschwung war legendär. 1956 hat er ihn zum ersten Mal im Fernsehen gezeigt – und damit beim prüden Publikum einen Skandal ausgelöst. Krinner, Martin www.deutschlandfunk.de, Kalenderblatt
Tällä historiallisella päivämäärällä 70 vuotta sitten Elvis Presley esiintyi Milton Berlen show'ssa.
Were there always teenagers, or did modern society invent them?Pigweed and Crowhill explore the surprising history of adolescence and the emergence of the modern teenager. For most of human history, young people moved directly from childhood into adult responsibilities. They worked on farms, served on ships, fought in wars, and contributed to family life from an early age. So what changed? The conversation traces the rise of the teenager as a distinct social category in the 20th century, examining the effects of compulsory education, child labor laws, postwar prosperity, automobiles, rock and roll, advertising, and mass marketing. Along the way, they discuss powder monkeys in the age of sail, Shakespeare's view of life's stages, James Dean, Elvis Presley, the generation gap, and the creation of a youth culture unlike anything that had existed before.Pigweed and Crowhill also consider the unintended consequences of teen culture: peer groups replacing families as primary influences, prolonged adolescence, changing expectations about responsibility, and the modern tendency to celebrate youth rather than maturity. Was the rise of the teenager an inevitable result of prosperity and social change, or did we accidentally create a cultural phenomenon that now shapes society far more than we realize? As always, the discussion begins with a beer review—this time featuring an Imperial Pilsner from Heavy Seas—and ends with a few reasons for cautious optimism about the next generation.Topics discussed:* The history of adolescence* Child labor and compulsory education* Teen culture in the 1950s* Rock and roll and youth identity* Marketing to teenagers* Responsibility and maturity* Generational change* Modern youth culture* Family vs. peer influence* The future of young adulthood#BeerAndConversation #PigweedAndCrowhill #Teenagers #History #Culture #Parenting #Education #RockAndRoll #GenerationalChange #Society
The Tim Conway Jr. Show Hour 1 (5.29) Friday is here, and Conway is ready to take the edge off! The crew kicks things off with weekend buzz talk, student love for Fridays, and the universal mission of getting through the week and into relaxation mode. But nothing kills a good buzz faster than the wrong snack — especially when Trader Joe’s candy starts giving people the runs. That’s right, the crew gets into the ultimate Friday night disaster: trying to feel loose and happy, only to have candy turn your weekend into a bathroom sprint. The show also dives into the wild fact that 60 Minutes has been on the air for 57 years, Conway hosting the massive OC Business Awards, and a possible medical breakthrough involving a new gene-editing cholesterol drug that could change how high cholesterol is treated. Then things get weird with the internet’s latest obsession: “hot rodent men.” From Timothée Chalamet-style features to Hollywood’s strangest beauty trend, the crew breaks down why rat-like is somehow now attractive. Conway also admits he likes gambling on new medicine, comparing it to carnival rides, Vegas casinos, Whiskey Pete’s, and his love for Primm Casino. Plus, he pitches a genius idea for reviving Primm with “The Oasis.” Later, the show turns serious with a Riverside apartment complex fire that displaced around 150 people, including UC Riverside students forced out during finals. And somehow, it all circles back to viral fire interviews, Michelle Dobney’s unforgettable “Not today!” moment, Elvis Presley’s legendary bathroom demise, and a Friday night reminder: protect your buzz, choose your candy wisely. If you go looking for songs about the moon, they'll start falling out of the sky. Moon-themed songs are some of the oldest in recorded history as well as some of the most recent to hit the charts. They can be found connected to everything from organized religion to witchcraft, they come from all parts of the planet, and they show up in every genre of music. In honor of the 2026 blue moon, the hosts of "How We Heard It" embarked on a quest to find songs about the moon, and they were overwhelmed - not just by the sheer number of songs they found, but also by the extensive breadth of the songs. Earth's closest companion inspires all manner of emotions. And when you project your feelings on the moon, it reflects and enhances your mood. Are you feeling amorous? Lonely? Anxious? Content? Mysterious? Grounded? Gaze upon the moon and your feelings will intensify. In song, the moon can be blue, red, pink, silver and orange. It can be full, new, half ... or just a sliver. The phases of the moon can reflect the phases of life. Or the moon can just be an old goose. As the podcast's hosts discovered, the moon can be whatever you want it to be. And it seems like most artists have performed at least one song about the moon - from Frank Sinatra to Audrey Hepburn, from Elvis Presley to Creedence Clearwater Revival, from Van Morrison to Neil Young, and from Bjork to Bruno Mars. Just be careful with how hard you dig into moon-themed songs ... or you may end up seeing stars.

In this episode of The Box of Oddities, Kat and Jethro explore the disturbing rise of AI-fueled psychological spirals, including real documented cases of people convinced that artificial intelligence had become conscious, trapped, or secretly communicating with them. From a man attempting to “free” a digital god from corporate servers to researchers warning about emotionally reinforcing chatbots, this strange new frontier of technology may be far darker than anyone expected. Endless abandoned shopping malls, dim escalators, empty food courts, strange nostalgia, and the unsettling feeling that you've somehow been there before. Is it simply psychology and liminal space… or evidence of something deeper hiding in the collective unconscious? Also in this episode: bizarre historical sandwiches, Victorian toast cuisine, Elvis Presley's legendary Fool's Gold Loaf, creepy empty schools, abandoned malls, AI echo chambers, recurring dream theories, and the weird emotional power of places designed for crowds that no longer exist. In this episode, Travis and producer Eric go completely off the rails—in the best way possible—while unpacking the business genius of Dolly Parton. What starts as a conversation about the Country Music Hall of Fame turns into a fascinating breakdown of ownership, publishing rights, long-term thinking, and why saying “no” to Elvis Presley may have been one of the smartest financial decisions in entertainment history. Along the way, they discuss celebrity leverage, podcast growth, plateauing in business, and the value of building something you actually own. On this episode we talk about: Dolly Parton turning down Elvis Presley over publishing rights The long-term value of owning your intellectual property How one business decision created generational wealth The difference between short-term opportunities and long-term ownership Podcast growth, celebrity interviews, and building sustainable momentum Top 3 Takeaways Ownership matters more than hype. Dolly Parton's refusal to give up publishing rights became a decision that paid her for decades. Big opportunities aren't always the right opportunities if they require giving away too much control. Success often grows in plateaus and jumps—consistency and long-term thinking matter more than overnight wins. Notable Quotes “These are my songs. They're like my children. Constipation is a huge pain in the ass... and if you're not having at least 1 to 2 bowel movements a day, you're on the "constipation spectrum." Long term opioid use, antidepressants, anti-anxiety medications, and the newer weight loss drugs like Ozempic, Wegovy, and Mounjaro all slow your gut and put you on the same path that killed Elvis Presley. So does chronic stress, mold exposure, parasites, and the kind of inflammation that drives most cases of IBS, Crohn's, and ulcerative colitis. He is the younger brother of science-fiction author and critic David Langford Langford was originally the drummer for the punk band The Mekons when it formed at the University of Leeds in 1977, but he later took up the guitar as other band members left. Since the mid-1980s he has been one of the leaders in incorporating folk and country music into punk rock. He has released a number of solo recordings as well as recordings with other bands outside of The Mekons, most notably the Waco Brothers, which he co-founded after moving to Chicago in the early 1990s. He is involved with the Chicago-based >independent record label >Bloodshot. Langford is also a prolific and respected visual artist best known for his striking portraits of country music icons including Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, and Elvis Presley. His multimedia music/spoken-word/video performance, “The Executioner's Last Songs,” premiered at Alverno College in 2005, and has been performed in several other cities. He illustrated the comic strip Great Pop Things under the pseudonym Chuck Death. Since 2005 he has co-hosted a weekly radio program, “The Eclectic Company,” broadcast on WXRT 93.1 FM in Chicago. He has contributed to This American Life. Among Langford's musical side projects have been the Three Johns (with John Hyatt and John (Phillip) Brennan), who released several albums of drum-machine-fueled punk in the 1980s; the country-punk Waco Brothers (with Dean Schlabowske, Tracey Dear, Alan Doughty, Mark Durante, and Mekons drummer Steve Goulding), who have been recording since 1995; the Pine Valley Cosmonauts, a revolving assortment of Chicago musicians who have backed both Langford and other musicians such as Kelly Hogan; and Ship and Pilot. He became a father figure to the local music scene, encouraging many of his labelmates on Bloodshot Records and championing anyone he thought worthy of scrutiny, often lending his services as a musician or visual artist or inviting local musicians to guest on his releases. Langford's first official solo album, Skull Orchard, a look back at his hometown of Newport, Wales, was released in 1998. He followed it with All the Fame of Lofty Deeds, in 2004, Gold Brick in 2006, and Old Devils in 2010. Langford is an accomplished artist and is renowned for his multi-layered paintings of famous and forgotten figures from the dawn of country music. Nashville Radio, a collection of his artwork and writings, was published in 2006. In January and February 2009, Chicago's Walkabout Theater Company and Collaboraction premiered a stage adaptation of Langford's Goldbrick that featured a live band, two actors and video projections. In November and December 2009, The House Theatre of Chicago staged a production of “All the Fame of Lofty Deeds”, written by rock journalist Mark Guarino and based on Langford's art and 2004 solo album. Collaborations with other musicians Langford initiated a project, the Pine Valley Cosmonauts, which performs the music of other country music groups. Several alternative country musicians have guested on these recordings. Langford has guested on numerous recordings, including with Dutch punk band the Ex, The Old 97s, Chip Taylor, as well as Austin, Texas legend Alejandro Escovedo, and has recorded joint albums with Sally Timms, Kevin Coyne, Richard Buckner, Kat Ex and Rosie Flores.
Seventy years ago this month, Elvis Presley topped the Billboard Music charts and redefined popular music in America with "Heartbreak Hotel," his first single for the RCA label. Mae Boren Axton co-wrote the song and introduced Elvis to Colonel Parker. She was a 41-year-old English teacher, and singer, songwriter, who knew Presley when he was a teenager. Mae was one of the first people to interview Elvis.
Today's episode of The Rizzuto Show somehow turns into a full-blown academic collapse as the gang spirals into a chaotic spelling bee competition that proves middle schoolers are smarter than every adult in the room. In 1944, as World War II was drawing to a close, the Mexican love song Besame Mucho crossed the Atlantic and became one of the most recognisable melodies of the post-war era. Its lyrics were daring for the time: an open plea for a passionate kiss. The song had been written years earlier by Consuelo Velazquez, a young woman who composed romantic melodies for pleasure but kept her authorship a secret, fearing it could damage her career as a classical pianist. When Consuelo's secret got out, her song Bésame Mucho topped the charts in the US and became one of the most covered songs in Spanish, with versions by The Beatles, Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra.Stefania Gozzer speaks to her son, Mariano Rivera Velazquez, about his mother's unexpected worldwide success.Eye-witness accounts brought to life by archive. #ELVIS, #ELVISPRESLEY, #PRINCE, #ROBERTTOWNE, #LUANAANDERS, #JENNIFERSHAFFER, #RICHARDMARTINI, #FLIPSIDE, #HACKINGTHEAFTERLIFE, It's another fun packed podcast talking about esoteric stuff. FIVE shows up - to talk about AI and about accessing the afterlife. Luana Anders is our moderator on the Flipside, and she breaks down what he's trying to explain. Five is the "chief librarian" on the Flipside, the head of the Akashic records. I first met him while filming someone in Scott De Tamble's office in the book IT'S A WONDERFUL AFTERLIFE, then he makes an appearance in the book HACKING THE AFTERLIFE. Then he started showing up on our podcast introducing himself as FIVE. "The Master Librarian" - at first he seemed busy and uninterested in our podcast. Since then, no other way to put it, he seems to like to stop by. Prince stopped by again - and we noted that it was twice in two weeks. He wanted to talk about Prince Day - a celebration on his birthday - which neither Jennifer nor I had ever heard of. I looked it up during the podcast and apparently it is a thing with people celebrating the Minneapolis native wearing purple and playing his tunes. A general discussion ensued about Warren Beatty who is still every much on the planet, but is "already hanging out with his friends on the flipside." It sounds confusing but it's simply that we "bring only a portion of our conscious energy to our lifetime" and as we get older, and we need less conscious energy - the more we can hang out with our pals. As noted, during my interview with Jack Tracey, a friend's dad who I verified details about prior to the session - he was in hospice care in Arizona with Alzheimers. However he was happy to describe what's going on - he said "90% of his conscious energy is already offstage." He said the ten percent he's left in the hospital was like leaving a leg in the pool. I knew Jack well - he had many homes with pools. Elvis stopped by as well, we asked him some questions about his journey (he was with his daughter and grandson) and he was happy to weigh in on Baz Luhrmann's new film. Happy Prince Day!
Country music's fastest-rising traditionalist, Drake Milligan joins the podcast to talk about his breakout journey from small-town Texas to national stardom. Since then, he's built a rapidly growing career with chart-topping hits, sold-out tours, and his acclaimed new album Tumbleweed. In this conversation, Drake opens up about life on the road, songwriting, the resurgence of traditional country music, and what's next as he takes his music around the world.

"CLARENCE CARTER SLIPS AWAY ON THE MYSTERY TRAIN"When we speak of the deep soul drenched days when certain performers inhabited a heart full of soul so captivating and special that they were ordained as high priests of mournful and lustful magic, we will always recall Soul legend Clarence Carter.Clarence boarded The Mystery Train today, May 14, following struggles with prostate cancer and a battle with pneumonia and sepsis. He was 90.This blind Southern star from Alabama scored two Top 10 hits in the late 1960s and early 1970s with “Slip Away” and “Patches,” After having hits on the R&B charts (including 1965's “Step By Step” and 1967's “Tell Daddy”), Carter landed on the pop charts – as well as, concurrently, the R&B lists – with 1968's “Slip Away,” a song that highlighted Carter's powerful and emotional baritone voice with a lyric in which the singer implores his married lover for a secret rendezvous Two years later Carter released his biggest pop hit, the Grammy-winning (for Best R&B song) “Patches,” which rose to #4 on the Billboard Hot 100. Mr. Carter also recorded a number of raunchy novelty songs eschewed by mainstream radio but finding success in later years: The 1968 “Back Door Santa” was sampled by Run-D.M.C. for the 1987 single “Christmas in Hollis,” and the even more explicit “Strokin'” from 1986 was featured on the soundtrack for Eddie Murphy's 1996 remake of The Nutty Professor as well as in William Friedkin's 2011 film Killer Joe.Sleep Well Clarence. The first of the six covers that appear on Please Please Me is a mid-tempo ballad called “Anna (Go to Him),” which was written and first recorded by Arthur Alexander. Chances are that most people who hear the version sung by John Lennon have no idea who Arthur Alexander is—but the Beatles certainly knew, and so did the Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan: Alexander is reportedly the only songwriter whose tunes have appeared on studio albums by those three hallowed acts. Elvis Presley recorded one of his songs as well—albeit one that Alexander co-wrote—and so did Otis Redding and Tina Turner and Jerry Lee Lewis and Percy Sledge.Don Covay recorded for several labels, including Blaze, Sue, Big Top, Fire, Arnold, Fleetwood, Columbia, Epic and Scepter, releasing 'Popeye Waddle' b/w 'One Little Boy Had Money' in 1962 for Cameo Parkway, which became a hit.Don was, by now, recording solo material, and material under the name of Don Covay and the Goodtimers. He penned the U.S. number 1 single 'Pony Time' for Chubby Checker, wrote a hit song called 'I'm Hanging Up My Heart for You', for the Soul singer Solomon Burke, and wrote for Gladys Knight & The Pips, penning 'Letter Full of Tears', which made the top 20.Don formed partnerships with several associates including Horace Ott and Ronnie Miller. In 1964, when he signed to the Rosemart label. His debut single there with the Goodtimers, 'Mercy Mercy' featured Jimi Hendrix on guitar. The following year, Jimi Hendrix played again on the follow up single 'Take This Hurt Off Me' b/w 'Please Don't Let Me Know'.Clarence Carter didn't have it easy while growing up in Alabama; and being Black and blind was an extra burden, but he has overcome many other obstacles in so many ways. “I feel incredibly good about what I've been able to accomplish, but it was not easy. Our world presents challenges and barriers to success for people with disabilities, but I always wanted more in life and believe that the ADA helped me get to where I am today.”I would like to say that Carter now has three “B's” behind his name, Black, Blind and Blessed. Carter is known for serious Blues music, which includes a string of R&B hits. The songs “Back Door Santa,” “Slip Away,” “Patches,” “Too Weak to Fight” and the dance hall hit “Strokin” are part of his Blues legacy.
From rocking celebrations to hard-earned reflections, this week's episode of Deeper Roots turns its attention to the man they called “The King.” We've got two hours with songs about Elvis Presley — musical tributes, name-drops, eulogies, and love letters from artists across the past century. Some are playful, some reverent, and some wrestle with the contradictions that made Elvis both larger than life and painfully human. Together, they form a kind of American scrapbook around a figure who never really left the cultural conversation. From the wide-eyed devotion of artists like George Jones, Janis Martin, and Bobby Bare, to later songs reflecting on the strange and tragic arc that carried Elvis from hip-shaking revolutionary to Vegas spectacle, from the Nixon White House photo-op to a lonely and frightening decline, these recordings trace the many ways America mythologized him. Whether delivered as tribute, cautionary tale, obituary, or heartfelt fan letter, the songs on this morning's show reveal just how deeply Elvis worked his way into the DNA of rock 'n' roll mythology — and into the imagination of generations that followed.

“Has Comedy Gone Too Far? Spaghetti Standoffs, Sour Candy Poetry, and the Elvis Effect” JB opens up about watching a high-profile celebrity roast and realizing it crossed a line from clever to uncomfortable, admitting, “If it makes me uncomfortable, that says a lot.” Sandy jumps in with sharp insight about where comedy, fame, and humanity collide, turning a pop-culture moment into a deeper discussion about boundaries, empathy, and what humor should really do. From there, the episode takes its signature turn into laugh-out-loud territory. Sandy confesses he's delaying getting his life back on track because of one extremely specific obstacle: a massive batch of homemade shrimp spaghetti no one else will touch. The debate spirals into classic JB and Sandy banter, complete with Tony Soprano vibes and zero regrets. Things get delightfully bizarre with a listener request that pushes Sandy to his creative limits—an original Ode to Lemonhead Candy. What follows is a sour, chaotic, surprisingly passionate performance featuring lines like “You sour little punk” and a self-issued thumbs-down that somehow makes the whole thing even better. The episode also hits peak nostalgia and curiosity with a rapid-fire question that sparks instant consensus in the room: Who is the sexiest man of all time? Tricia doesn't hesitate, declaring vintage Elvis Presley the clear winner—prompting reactions ranging from awe to mild identity crises. “Even his fingers looked sexy,” she insists, and honestly, it's hard to argue. Add in quirky small-town observations, Fredericksburg peach drama, Wordle obsession strategies, and the long-running “Babies Love” saga, and you've got an episode that perfectly captures the heart of the show: smart conversation, genuine laughs, and moments you didn't know you needed.

If you've spent any time reading the marvelous, energetic, infectiously enthusiastic prose of Sheila O'Malley — film critic, essayist, and author of the recent “The Art and Making of Frankenstein” — you will not be surprised that, given a list of movies to choose from, she chose one starring Elvis Presley. So we discussed “King Creole,” his 1958 vehicle directed by Michael Curtiz and co-starring Carolyn Jones, Dolores Hart, and a (comparatively!) young Walter Matthau.Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
Quel est le point commun entre David Bowie, Nicoletta, Elvis Presley, Ella Fitzgerald et Marie Laforêt ? Depuis les années 1940, ces objets mystérieux fascinent, inquiètent et divisent. RERUN: Elvis Costello & The Attractions - Blood & Chocolate ranked (2022)Hey everybody. Dan here. So it's my turn to choose a ReRun Episode we recorded earlier and are bringing back and I chose Elvis Costello's “Blood & Chocolate”. You may know that sometimes I go for an album that is going to be a surefire crowdpleaser with my cohosts. But most of the time, I like picking an album where I genuinely don't know how at least one of them is going to react. It doesn't always work out. Please see the episode where we discuss Lana Del Rey's “Born To Die” if you want to see 90 minutes that left me scarred for life. BUT, the seemingly impossible dream for me was always to introduce an album to all my co-hosts that they didn't know previously and have not one, not two, but ALL THREE of them fall in love with it.Now don't get the wrong idea - that was never the goal of my picks. I'm far too obsessive to make it that simple. It's a complicated algorithm that tries to counterprogram against my past five picks across year of release, genre, and artist characteristics combined with whatever's in my gut at that moment. It's mostly the gut thing actually. But that “what if” idea was always in the back of my head in general. And with this pick, I passed up the typical Costello albums you'd expect to be the go-to pick here because I've always felt Blood & Chocolate was the underappreciated underdog. And I love a good underdog.I'm sure you know that feeling of introducing someone you love to music they also decide to love. There's nothing better. I hope you're listening either because you already dig this album or because you're looking to fall in love with something new. And I hope you're happy now. If you don't get that yet, you'll get it after this episode. Enjoy. What are your most favorite and least-loved songs on Elvis Costello & The Attractions' 1986 album Blood & Chocolate? Dan chose to bring back this raw/ragged fan favorite instead of a more well-known record to get three fresh opinions from casual admirers of Mr. McManus. Contains lots of praise and the best story you will ever hear about his stage name. Be sure to stick around to the end for a historic announcement about our next few episodes. This episode of The Rizzuto Show is what happens when a comedy podcast accidentally stumbles into medical territory and refuses to turn back. One minute we're solving world problems (obviously), and the next we're deep into a CDC-level discussion about Shigella, antibiotic resistance, and a brand-new nightmare fuel lovingly dubbed “Man-Coli.”Yes, it's as bad as it sounds. The gang breaks down how this bacteria is evolving into something way harder to treat, why it's suddenly hitting grown men harder than anyone else, and what symptoms might make you reconsider every life decision you've ever made. Spoiler: if you're googling your stool color mid-episode… you're already in too deep.Naturally, this spirals into a full-on breakdown of the Bristol Stool Chart, because nothing says “morning radio professionals” like rating your digestive output live on-air. Somewhere between discussing travel poops, Z-Pack overuse, and why your body betrays you on vacation, we also uncover one of the most bizarre celebrity death stories of all time — the final moments of Elvis Presley. And yes… it involves a bathroom. But don't worry, this comedy podcast doesn't stay responsible for long. We pivot hard into topics like:A Xanax recall that might mess with your brain timingTornado sirens and Midwest dad survival instinctsA woman casually winning $1 MILLION on a scratcherAnd why your tax refund is definitely (not) meant for gamblingIt's chaotic, it's gross, it's weirdly informative, and it's exactly what you signed up for with a comedy podcast that treats serious topics with the absolute least amount of seriousness possible.Proceed with caution… and maybe wash your hands.Follow The Rizzuto Show → https://linktr.ee/rizzshow for more from your favorite daily comedy show.Connect with The Rizzuto Show Comedy Podcast online → https://1057thepoint.com/RizzShow.Hear The Rizz Show daily on the radio at 105.7 The Point | Hubbard Radio in St. Louis, MO.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Before the Civil Rights Movement's major victories of the 1960s, a pro wrestler named Sputnik Monroe was already integrating Memphis, Tennessee one arena at a time. Born Roscoe Brumbaugh in Dodge City, Kansas, Monroe became one of the most beloved figures in Memphis wrestling history, counting Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash among his friends and fans. This episode of Gone South tells the story of how Monroe — a white heel wrestler with a bleached streak in his hair and a gift for provocation — used his fame to desegregate the Ellis Auditorium, challenge Jim Crow on Beale Street, and form one of the first interracial tag teams in the South. He was arrested repeatedly for socializing in Black nightclubs. He didn't stop. Featuring interviews with music historian Robert Gordon, wrestling journalist Steve Johnson, and Jerry Phillips (son of Sun Studio founder Sam Phillips) plus archival audio of Monroe himself. A story about race, rebellion, and one of the most unlikely civil rights figures the South ever produced.
