Welcome to the Lovecars On The Grid podcast, with our hosts, Tiff Needell and Paul Woodman, who bring us a roundup of motorsport events from around the World. This week, we have news on Formula 1 and Christian Horner, In Formula 1, the rumours surrounding Christian Horner at Red Bull continue, will he leave Red Bull? Who could replace him? We have Gunther Steiner who left Haas under shares within the company, Helmut Marko says he still could give something to the Formula 1 Constructors Championship, who do you think could replace Horner? In NASCAR, we had the most exciting race in Atlanta. With lots of crashes, with just 6 cars not being involved in an accident, with cars up to 4 wide in some of the turns. Reigning Champion Ryan Blaney took second place as Daniel Suárez came through in his Chevrolet to take his second win in 254 starts in NASCAR. The series is off to Las Vegas next! The Bathurst saw Aussie Supercars, where reigning Champion, Brodie Kostecki wasn't racing, as he'd fallen out with is team for unknown reasons in the supercars opening race of the season. World Superbikes also kicked off at Philip Island. Normally, we're used to seeing Alvaro Bautista win in the Superbikes, however his team mate, Andrea Locatelli took his first win in the World Superbikes series. Should we get Tiff Needell to do a series race this year? What race series should Tiff enter? We've seen this season's Formula 1 drivers testing. Will Red Bull continue to dominate the season? Ferrari's drivers of LeClerc and Sainz were fastest, but which team will lead the season this year? Elsewhere in Formula 1 news, there's rumours that Audi are pulling out! Since we've had the news of a new team joining the sport, it looks like there's been a few staff changing, resulting in the team looking for pull out. We have lots of motorsport to look forward to, as Formula 2, Formula 3 and World Endurance Championship all return to racing in the coming weeks. What are you most looking forward to?

Did somebody say Unicorn Chaser? We can't ignore what's happening in Ukraine, especially given F1's connection to Russia. We applaud the strong statement from Sebastian Vettel - that he would not race in Russia if the Russian Grand Prix was held, and also the statement from Max Verstappen that essentially stated that F1 had no business racing in Russia.Formula 1 has stated that “it is impossible to hold the Russian Grand Prix in the current circumstances” to which we and many other interpreted to mean that the 2022 Russian Grand Prix has been cancelled. However, the organizers of the event still think there's a chance that the event could happen.Haas has removed the Uralkali colors and branding from the VF22, the team's gear, their trucks, their website and pretty much anyplace else that it might have appeared. As of when we recorded Nikita Mazepin is still driving for the team, but Gunther Steiner has stated that the team will assess their relationship with Uralkali this week. With Nikita Mazepin's position on the team tied so closely to the Uralkali sponsorship it seems likely that he's not going to retain his seat. Gunther Steiner says that Pietro Fitipaldi is most likely to get the call to replace Nikita. The more we hear about the Andretti Autosport application to start an F1 team the stronger the application sounds. But could the loss of Uralkali trigger a partnership with Haas and Andretti?Toto Wolff and Christian Horner say they are burying the hatchet for 2022.Initial reports are that the new cars can follow closer than before - but we're learning about porpoising and it's a problem for many teams.

The Bahrain Grand Prix was red-flagged on the first lap after a horrific moment that saw Romain Grosjean's Haas engulfed in a fireball after colliding with the barriers.Grosjean climbed out of the car through the flames and was dragged away from the fire by marshals before being helicoptered to hospital with a suspected broken rib and burns. It was a terrifying moment after the start with all the drivers bunched up.But with some going wide, it appeared as though Grosjean tried to cut through the pack into a gap but came in contact with the wheel of AlphaTauri's Daniil Kvyat, driving straight into the barrier at turn 3, a corner which is taken at approximately 140m/h (225km/h).The car was sliced in half by the barrier with the tail sitting separate from the fire.Haas team principal Gunther Steiner was quick to thank the rescue crews for their reactions, calling the crash "scary".Romain Grosjean's car explodes in fireball after hitting the wall. "I don't want to make a medical comment here but he had light burns on his hands and ankles. He's obviously shaken and for sure is going through all the checks you need to do after an impact like this but he's conscious and he's fine."If you see where the barrier has been torn down, it's unbelievable. I think we were lucky by being unlucky. I prefer that luck than racing luck."Sky Sports' David Croft immediately called the crash "horrendous" as the race was immediately red flagged.Martin Brundle added that it was "so unusual to see a Formula One car with all the safety cells and fuel and what have you immediately go into flames"."The driver is well protected with fire proof clothing, helmet, gloves, boots and everything but that just went straight up," he said. But Brundle said he couldn't remember a time he had seen a car explode like that.Haas driver Romain Grosjean of France is helped by medical staff after he crashed his car during the Formula One race in Bahrain International Circuit. Photo / APGrosjean was taken by the medical staff to an ambulance before being taken by helicopter to hospital.Marshals were lucky as well with two tyres flying off the car, before they rushed to Grosjean's aid."That's a miracle," Brundle said, while Croft added "I've not seen a car like that in my time commentating in Formula One".Brundle continued: "It's pierced the barrier like a tin opener and that's just levered the car apart such was the energy. But full respect to the FIA, and the teams and the designers and all the stress analysis for constantly trying to improve the structural integrity of the survival cell or the chassis. That's just saved his life because that is just extraordinary.""The fact that Romain Grosjean has survived that crash is not only miraculous but quite frankly marvellous as well," Croft said. "That is horrendous."The pit crews were left stunned with many looking on in disbelief.Former F1 champion Damon Hill said it's been a long time since Formula One has seen a crash like that.A part of Haas driver Romain Grosjean's car is taken after the crash at the Formula One Bahrain Grand Prix in Sakhir, Bahrain. Photo / AP"Like everyone, absolute shock and horror," he said of his first reactions to the incident."I was just thinking the drivers going down the straight would have looked in their mirrors and seen the flames. I think it's so long since we've seen anything like that. It's such an unusual sight to see a fuel fire and then to see how he actually impacted the barriers and gone straight through, we can't jump to any conclusions at all but it looks like the halo has saved Romain from worse injury there."The halo is a titanium curved bar structure that sits above the drivers' head to protect them from flying debris and were only made mandatory in 2018...

I just want to stress this: Gunther Steiner lost his entire team. He didn’t lose 20% of his team. He didn’t even lose 50% of his team. He lost his whole team. Look at what it’s done to him. You can see the death in his eyes, but he keeps on going. This is why Haas is one of my favorite teams. We've finally gotten some details on what F1 coverage will look like in the US for 2018 - it'll look a lot like the coverage from Sky Sports - as they'll be supplying the race commentary for ESPN and ABC. It's not clear if we'll be getting the Pre- and Post- race coverage from Sky, and we also don't know what the streaming offering will be either. Hopefully we'll get more details soon.At 10 races this season you might have the chance to ride around the track in an Aston Martin driven by either Max Verstappen or Daniel Ricciardo, or a McLaren 720s driven by either Stoffel Vandoorne, Fernando Alonso, Mika Hakkinen, or Lando Norris.Zak Brown said that McLaren felt that they needed to keep Grand Prix Driver authentic and air the dirty laundry that came up during the filming - and we agree with him and applaud the team for their openness. Zak also says that more sponsors are coming to McLaren soon.Sauber (aka AlFaub or AlFauber) thinks that Ferrari is providing them with the support they need to challenge Force India as the "giant killer" of the series.Valtteri Bottas says that after driving a race distance in the simulator with the halo that it's not too bad.Gene Haas is trying to clarify Gunther Steiner's comments about American drivers..Haas and Williams both revealed their 2018 F1 contenders.IndyCar wants to test the aeroscreen on a street course.Cosworth is interested in returning to IndyCar - with a partner. And WEC promoter the Automobile de l'Ouest is putting LMP1 teams on notice - if they managed to beat the sole manufacturer team left in the sport, Toyota, that penalties will be handed out.
