Frank Force joins us to talk about how game developers can ship faster, learn better, and avoid getting trapped by perfectionism. He shares lessons from AAA development at studios like Volition, Midway Games, and others including milestone pressure, polish, crunch, and speedrun-style bug hunting on PsiOps. He also breaks down his current push to release Pyroot, a C++/DirectX Metroidvania he started 6–7 years ago, on Steam Early Access. The conversation dives into why Frank believes browser-based development, JavaScript, game jams, and sharing work early can be powerful ways to build skills and a portfolio. He challenges the idea that web development can't produce “real” games and explains why low-friction tools can make it easier to experiment, iterate, and actually finish projects. Frank also gets into sizecoding and creative programming through JS1K, JS13K and Dwitter, the origins and growth of his open-source LittleJS game engine, procedural audio with ZZFX, and the mindset of removing rather than adding. Plus, he shares how AI is already helping game developers find bugs, prototype ideas, and give small teams more leverage, while also discussing his concerns about sunk-cost thinking, exploitative player psychology, and where the industry may be heading. Topics include: • Breaking into game development • Building a portfolio • Shipping games instead of endlessly polishing • JavaScript and browser-based game development • AAA development lessons • Indie game development • Game jams and rapid iteration • Sizecoding, JS1K, JS13K and Dwitter • LittleJS and open-source development • Procedural audio and ZZFX • AI tools for game developers • Going indie full time━━━━━━ TIMESTAMPS ━━━━━━ 00:00 - Career Advice Myth 00:36 - Meet Frank Force 00:56 - Pyroot Early Access 02:53 - AAA Lessons and Crunch 05:12 - Speedrunning for QA 05:43 - JavaScript Game Dev 09:02 - Ship Fast Share Early 12:03 - Advance Inside Studios 14:36 - Breaking In and Portfolios 18:03 - Sunk Cost Trap 19:27 - AI for Game Development 34:33 - Industry Concerns and Hope 38:57 - Size Coding JS1K 41:44 - Recreational Programming 41:57 - Code Golf vs Sizecoding 43:24 - Demo Scene Culture 44:31 - JavaScript Sizecoding Shift 45:26 - Procedural Assets Challenge 46:13 - Remove Not Add Mindset 48:05 - JS13K Sweet Spot 51:27 - Dwitter Raycasting Magic 54:23 - LittleJS Origin Story 57:10 - Open Source Community Growth 58:47 - Driven Wild and Self Promotion 01:00:48 - ZZFX Sound Without Assets 01:03:03 - Optical Illusion Breakthrough 01:06:25 - Make Stuff and Share It 01:09:11 - Going Indie Full Time 01:13:18 - Generative Art NFT Detour 01:17:12 - Monetizing Web Games 01:20:15 - Advice and AI Tools 01:22:47 - Final Thanks ━━━━━━━━━ ABOUT THE GUEST ━━━━━━━━━ Frank Force has been building real-time interactive software for over 25 years, from AAA titles like DOOM and Red Faction: Guerrilla to LittleJS, his open source game engine with over 4,000 stars on GitHub. “Over time, what works is truly showing up in a way where you actually care, you're actually trying to give value.” In a culture that rewards boldness and visibility, quieter voices can be easy to overlook. But Susan Cain, a former Wall Street lawyer, negotiation consultant, and bestselling author of Quiet and Bittersweet, argues that introverts bring powerful strengths to communication and leadership, from deep listening to thoughtful reflection. In this episode of Think Fast, Talk Smart, Cain joins Matt Abrahams to explore how introverts can communicate with confidence without pretending to be extroverts. From overcoming speaking anxiety to embracing quiet leadership, she shares how sincerity and self-awareness can help us show up at our best.Key Takeaways:Introversion is a strength, not a limitation. Deep listening, thoughtful reflection, and strong one-on-one relationships can make quieter communicators highly effective leaders, even when those qualities are less visible.Confidence doesn't require changing who you are. By gradually building comfort in challenging situations and communicating with sincerity, you can become more confident while staying true to your natural communication style.Activity:Redesign a meeting. Choose one recurring meeting and change one element to make space for quieter voices. Try sending questions in advance, adding silent thinking time, or using Susan's think-pair-share approach before opening the discussion to the group. To listen to the extended Deep Thinks version of this episode, please visit FasterSmarter.io/premium.Episode Reference Links:Susan CainSusan's Books: Quiet / BittersweetEp.69 Feeling Nervous? Personal branding, self-promotion, getting noticed. If those phrases make you uncomfortable, you are not alone. Self-promotion is often feels strange, possibly because of others' perceptions of us, fear of rejection, or fear of failure. I know many of you job seekers know the importance of branding. (LinkedIn, resume, how we show up to interviews). The concept is there, but the execution is difficult. My next guest Vanessa Errecarte tells us that self-promotion doesn't have to be stressful, time-consuming, or inauthentic. In fact, she teaches one of the nation's only MBA courses on personal branding and her new book, Valuable & Visible: Redefining Personal Branding by Leading With Impact Over Image, rejects legacy definitions of personal branding focused on self-promotion and instead shows how to build a service-based, credible, and authentic digital reputation that can help you achieve your wildest professional goals.Resources from the show:Order Vanessa's book: https://www.amazon.com/Valuable-Visible-Redefining-Personal-Branding/dp/1394395000?refFree Resume Critique: https://www.letseatgrandma.com Hosted on Acast. Send us Fan MailWe spend billions of dollars each year funding scientific discovery - but what happens if the people making those discoveries can't communicate them? Today we're exploring why communication may be just as important as innovation itself, and why some of the world's brightest scientists never receive the recognition their work deserves.Nancy Ancowitz ( https://www.nancyancowitz.com/ ) is career strategist, executive presentation coach, author, educator, and one of the country's leading experts on helping professionals communicate their expertise with clarity, confidence, and authenticity.Nancy has spent more than two decades teaching communication, presentation skills, and career strategy at New York University ( https://www.sps.nyu.edu/faculty-directory/10734-nancy-h-ancowitz.html ) while coaching everyone from emerging professionals to CEOs on how to translate knowledge into influence. Nancy is the author of the acclaimed Self-Promotion for Introverts® ( https://www.amazon.com/Self-Promotion-Introverts-Quiet-Guide-Getting-ebook/dp/B00394U8DS?ref_=ast_author_dp&th=1&psc=1 ), recognized by Publishers Weekly as one of the year's best business books, as well as Zoom to Success and Business Writing: Say More With Less. Before launching her coaching practice, Nancy spent twelve years on Wall Street, leading marketing communications for multibillion-dollar businesses as a Vice President at JPMorgan Chase and earlier at Citibank, where she was recognized for innovation in global marketing communications. Along the way, her insights have appeared in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and Psychology Today, and she has spoken at organizations ranging from the National Institutes of Health to the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.Today, we're taking Nancy's work in a slightly different direction. Here on Progress, Potential and Possibilities, we spend much of our time with scientists, physicians, engineers, biotech founders, and technology innovators who are developing extraordinary breakthroughs - but often struggle to communicate those breakthroughs beyond their laboratories, companies, and research institutions. In an age where groundbreaking discoveries compete with endless streams of information, social media, and artificial intelligence, is communication becoming just as important as innovation itself? Ep #118 — "Start With What You Have" Denzel Turner on Building Black Fridays PodcastPart of noseyAF's 31 Days of Black Business series
The world tells us that if you want to find satisfaction, you need to promote yourself, protect your own interests, and seek comfort above all else. Yet, in Philippians 2:5-18, the Apostle Paul directly challenges this self-centric mindset by pointing to Jesus as the ultimate counter-cultural model. Jesus possessed all the rights of divinity but willingly laid them aside, humbling Himself to the point of a brutal death on a cross for others. True humility is not just a standard of behavior; it is a foundational shift in mindset that must precede how we behave in our homes, relationships, and workplaces. Our human nature naturally fights against this, looking for personal comfort or validation, but spiritual maturity requires an intentional surrender to God's will. Choosing to view ourselves as servants in a culture obsessed with self-advancement is difficult, but it is precisely how we reflect Christ's light in a fractured world. Living a life modeled after Christ's humility is not passive; it requires deliberate, spiritual effort to resist our default selfishness. There is a profound difference between fleeting happiness, which depends entirely on our external circumstances, and deep Christian joy, which persists even in the midst of trials and suffering. While the culture sells dissatisfaction to encourage continuous consumption and self-care, God uses uncomfortable situations to refine our character and realign our values. To cultivate this inner resilience, we need active engagement in spiritual disciplines like prayer and meditation on scripture, rather than simply expecting spiritual growth to happen automatically. By shifting our daily goal from seeking self-satisfaction to pursuing the glory of God, we find the peace that the world cannot offer and transform how we interact with those around us.

KeywordsAI-KostenAI-EntlassungenApple GeminiSiriTokenpreiseAI-Kosten 2026 UnternehmenApple Gemini Siri Privatsphäre ForkPerplexity Computer AI OptimierungFirewall Brandschutz Software SchweizQuickfire OnlyFans Creator MonetisierungSubagents AI ArchitekturArbeitnehmerüberlassung Modernisierung HandwerkArbeitgebermarke Handwerk

Tyler Anbinder highlights the upward mobility of Irish artisans and entrepreneurs, showcasing George Fox, a trained tailor who became a successful merchant tailor through aggressive self-promotion and by providing free garments to prominent politicians like Millard Fillmore. The transition from journeyman to master was a critical step for many skilled workers, such as carpenters and masons, who benefited from New York's rapid physical expansion. The Immigrant Savings Bank records track these paths of success, revealing how parents plateauing in artisanal roles focused on ensuring their children could enter professional classes like law and medicine. Should cartoonists hire a social-media manager? Brad and Dave discuss the pros and cons of outsourcing social media and ultimately argue that most creators should handle it themselves. They explain why social media is an extension of a creator's voice, how direct engagement provides invaluable feedback about audience-building and marketing, and why improving your promotional skills makes you a better cartoonist overall. Along the way, they discuss shyness, self-promotion, audience growth, and the dangers of trying to be everywhere at once online. Companies and institutions have mission statements, but when it comes to individuals, it is unfortunately much less common. Maybe it's time to change that narrative. Crafting a personal mission statement takes strategic planning. This means being deliberate about having your behavior reflect what drives you. It entails reflecting on what is important to you and what values should govern your decision making as you forge ahead in your career. Luckily for us, Adam D. Wolfe, MD, PhD, makes his fourth appearance on the Faculty Factory Podcast this week to discuss just that. Everyone wants to save time, and there may not be a better time saver than doing what Dr. Wolfe encourages, which is to revisit your values, personal mission statement and what you want to accomplish in the next year or two. That true north will help you have the confidence to say no, and a well-timed "no," as many of us can painfully attest, can save you significant time, headaches, and stress. About Dr. Wolfe Dr. Wolfe is Associate Professor of Pediatrics and Program Director of the Pediatric Residency Program. He also serves as Assistant Dean of Medical Education and holds the Jann L. Harrison Endowed Chair in Pediatric Graduate Medical Education at Baylor College of Medicine in San Antonio at CHRISTUS Children's. Steph is the host of the Courage and Clarity podcast, a former Director of Sales Training at Groupon, and the founder of Sold Out Group Programs, where she helps entrepreneurs start, sell out, and scale group programs with more courage, clarity, and confidence. In this conversation, Kate and Steph talk about Steph's path from corporate sales to online business, the intentional choices that helped her design a career around her life, and why so many creative, service-driven people feel uncomfortable with selling. They also explore what it means to step away from something that looks successful from the outside, why scaling a business can bring up unexpected fear, and how Steph rebuilt her work in a way that supports her life, her family, and her ambition. Together, they discuss: Why sales feels uncomfortable for so many creatives and entrepreneurs How to reframe selling as service rather than self-promotion What "consultative selling" really means Why life design matters when building a business Steph's experience leaving Groupon and later stepping away from her own business The "scaling scaries" and what it takes to grow sustainably How to identify money-making activities in your business Why boundaries with your phone and attention matter more than we think What it means to thrive while still wanting to grow If you have something valuable to offer but struggle to share it, or if you are trying to build work that supports your life instead of consuming it, this conversation will give you a fresh perspective on sales, courage, and sustainable success. As author of Bragging Rights and a former broadcast journalist, Lisa knows both sides of the visibility equation—she used to decide who got airtime and who stayed unknown. That experience taught her something crucial: the best don't win. The visible do. Her research across 23 countries confirms what executive teams already suspect: 85% of professionals struggle to communicate their value. That recognition gap costs trillions in lost deals, misallocated talent, and strategic opportunities that close before you're in the room. Lisa's frameworks give organizations and their people the language to compete on visibility, not just capability. Her clients include BMO (6+ years), Salesforce, ServiceNow, GE Vernova, and 50+ other organizations where invisible expertise means lost competitive advantage.CONVERSATION HIGHLIGHTSThe importance of articulating your value in today's competitive landscapeOvercoming cultural and societal barriers to self-promotionThe psychology and sociology behind why many avoid bragging and how to reframe itStrategies for leaders to recognize and promote their team members' strengthsThe role of humility, gratitude, and acknowledgment in effective self-promotionHow to craft a personal and professional brand that is visible and authenticThe evolution of the media industry, from broadcast journalism to digital entrepreneurshipFuture trends including the impact of AI on visibility and brandingPractical tools: journaling successes, giving and receiving feedback, and amplifying others' brillianceThe power of strategic self-promotion for career advancement and organizational buildingThe MAIN QUESTION underlying my conversation with Lisa is, How do you take full advantage of the right kind of bragging to show others who you really are and what you bring to the table?FIND LISAWebsite: https://www.lisabragg.com/LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/lisabraggInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/thatlisabraggEmail: Hello@LisaBragg.comLinkedIn - Full Podcast Article: CHAPTERS00:00 - The Book Leads Podcast - Lisa Bragg00:23- Introduction & Bio02:47 - Overabundance With Others06:32 - Who are you today? It is his third time on our show, and we could not be happier to have him back for an important chat on peer mentoring. This week on History's Greatest Idiots (Featuring Peter of In The Wheels), we explore two Scottish success stories: cyclist David Millar's fall from grace and redemption, and comic writer Mark Millar's controversial rise to Hollywood riches.Born 4th January 1977 in Malta, David Millar burst onto cycling's scene in 2000, winning the Tour de France prologue and wearing the yellow jersey. He won four Tour stages and became the first British rider to wear the leader's jersey in all three Grand Tours. On 23rd June 2004, whilst dining in Biarritz, French police arrested Millar. They found empty EPO phials and syringes. Millar confessed to doping in 2001 and 2003. He was banned for two years, stripped of his 2003 World Championship, and fired by Cofidis.Returning in 2006, Millar transformed into cycling's most vocal anti-doping advocate. He served on WADA's Athlete Committee, became peloton spokesperson during Operación Puerto, and proved he could win clean with stages in the Vuelta, Giro, and a 2012 Tour victory. He achieved almost identical results in both halves of his career, retiring in 2014.Born 24th December 1969 in Coatbridge, Mark Millar became one of comics' most successful and divisive figures. After The Authority and The Ultimates (Time's "comic book of the decade"), Millar created Millarworld, designing properties to sell to Hollywood. Wanted, Kick-Ass, and Kingsman became films before issues appeared. Netflix purchased Millarworld in 2017.Critical reception has been harsh. Old Man Logan was called "grotesque" and "without substance", Kick-Ass criticised for undermining its premise, Nemesis dismissed as shock value. When asked about using assaults as a plot device, Millar said: "The ultimate act that would be the taboo, to show how bad some villain is..."Politically, Millar supported Brexit as a path to Scottish independence, then resigned from Labour in 2025, calling Keir Starmer's government "nightmarish, totalitarian."Two Millars. One rebuilt his reputation through honesty. The other built a Hollywood empire on controversy.David Millar: From Yellow Jersey to Prison CellMark Millar: Comics, Controversy and Self-Promotionhttps://www.patreon.com/HistorysGreatestIdiotshttps://www.instagram.com/historysgreatestidiotshttps://buymeacoffee.com/historysgreatestidiotsArtist: Sarah Cheyhttps://www.fiverr.com/sarahchey

How can you advocate for yourself when you're operating in a broken system? We're gearing up to face even more unprecedented times in 2026. And recent research shows, unsurprisingly, that inclusive and DEIB policies continue to be phased out while hostile work environments expand. Many of us are all too familiar with the lack of resources out there to help us cope with all this, especially options specific to Black women and Women of Color, who face the brunt of this ongoing shift. That's the landscape that prompted Sarah Boyd to found The Formation, an app that serves up “real talk, real resources, and real tight-knit community” for Black women navigating the realities of corporate America. She joins me to break down her evidence-backed recommendations for how we should protect ourselves while we fight the bigger fight of fixing our broken systems.Start documenting everything and finding your career clarity as we cover:How corporate changes are impacting Black women and Women of Color; Why you need to keep your work receipts—all of them; How to frame your stretch work and find your ideal audience; The innate gap-filling gift so many women have, and how to maximize it.Related Links:Connect with Sarah on LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/sarahwilliamsboyd/The Formation community - https://www.weareyourformation.com/The DISRUPT program - https://www.weareyourformation.com/our-programWomen in the Workplace 2025 - https://www.mckinsey.com/capabilities/people-and-organizational-performance/our-insights/women-in-the-workplaceLanguage Bias in Performance Feedback 2024, Textio - https://textio.com/feedback-bias-2024“Get Unstuck: Make a Plan to Move Your Career Forward”, LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/learning/get-unstuck-make-a-plan-to-move-your-career-forwardBossed Up Courage Community - https://www.facebook.com/groups/927776673968737/Bossed Up LinkedIn Group - https://www.linkedin.com/groups/7071888/ Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. If you want more visibility and authority as a coach, but the idea of constant self-promotion makes you cringe, this episode is for you. Many thoughtful, highly capable coaches want to be trusted leaders in their niche without being loud, flashy, or constantly talking about themselves. In this episode of She Coaches Coaches, we explore why running a survey can be one of the most aligned authority-building strategies for quiet achievers and introverted coaches. You'll learn:• why surveys shift the focus away from you and toward your audience• how listening builds trust faster than endless content• why insight creates visibility without performance• how surveys position you as a thoughtful guide and leader• how this approach helps you speak with confidence and clarity• why this strategy attracts clients who value depth over noiseIf traditional marketing feels draining or misaligned, this episode offers a different way. One rooted in curiosity, insight, and grounded leadership.
Send us a textWhere's the healthy line between sharing your work and chasing the spotlight? We dive into the messy middle ground of self-promotion in ministry and music, exploring how to be visible without making yourself the point. Our conversation gets honest about motives, calling, and the practical realities of discoverability—because doors don't open if no one knows you exist, yet hype alone can corrode the heart. We unpack the difference between God opening doors and our responsibility to show up: posting worship sets or sermon clips, keeping language centered on service, and building a public record of faithfulness. We talk about denominational names and livestreams as forms of branding, why that isn't automatically vanity, and how intent shapes impact. We also tackle the frustration of being overlooked while louder voices get booked, and map a path that blends craft, consistency, and humility.A major theme is platforming others. From “up and comers” speaking slots to inviting musicians and teachers to share the stage, we show how leaders can turn gatekeeping into discipleship. Calling becomes our guardrail—knowing whether you're built to teach, preach, lead worship, or support—and we celebrate the strength of small churches: intimacy, accountability, and real growth. The takeaway is simple but demanding: be faithful where you are, share your work without centering yourself, and trust that the right doors will open in the right time.If this resonates, follow the show, share this episode with a friend who's wrestling with visibility, and leave a quick review to help more people find these conversations. In this conversation, Laura welcomes Dr. Lakila Bowden to explore the transformative practice of self-celebration and the role it plays in helping Black women reclaim agency, joy, and permission to lead from a place of fullness. Drawing from key concepts in her book, The Sho'Nuff Principle, Lakila lays out a liberatory framework for centering ourselves without guilt, raising our expectations, and giving ourselves the recognition we often withhold. Laura and Lakila unpack the guilt, shame, and cultural conditioning that often arise when Black women center themselves, and what it looks like to begin shifting that mindset with compassion. Additionally, Lakila explains why self-celebration is not "extra," but essential. She explores the emotional and psychological roots of celebration, encouraging Black women to "brag more," and teaching how celebration functions as a mirror, an amplifier, and a motivator. Whether you've avoided attention, minimized your accomplishments, or struggled with self-recognition, Lakila offers accessible starting points to begin turning up your self- celebration. About Dr. Lakila Dr. Lakila Bowden is the charismatic voice high-achieving women didn't know they were missing. A visionary speaker, company founder, and unapologetic rest advocate, she's the COO of iSee Technologies and author of The Sho' Nuff Principle: A High Achieving Woman's Guide to Self-Care, Self-Promotion, & Self-Celebration. Lakila embraces a multi-hyphenate lifestyle which aligns with her personal ethos to operate in flow vs force in wealth creation and living life in celebratory fashion. Patrick Syms started work trying to be a screenwriter, and he got ever so close, before life got in the way. He took a job in advertising, which became a 25 year long career in communications. In 2020, he gave it up to write again. This time, he took it seriously. Being accepted in to the Curtis Brown 'Writing Your Novel' course, he's just finished 'Am I The Asshole?', which is out to query as I type. It's all about entrepreneur Richard Whitecross, who invents what he thinks is a piece of world-changing technology. But when it malfunctions and he becomes the target of a social media pile-on, he must learn to face all the facts of his situation, not just the convenient ones, before he loses his family, his livelihood and his sanity. It was inspired by an interview Patrick saw with a celebrity on TV, and being dumbfounded by the terrible way they were presenting themselves. As the manuscript goes out to agents, Patrick has taken some unique steps of his own... and is releasing a limited batch of books, in order to spread the word and make some noise. He's printed a select set of white label books, inspired by independent record companies. He runs through the process of making that work - what's gone well and what's been trickier than imagined. You can hear what he felt when he was trying too hard to make a point with his prose, also why he's always playing catch up, and the 5 questions that he asks in every scene. You can find out more at patricksyms.com, and find his instagram in the show notes. If you're getting a book for christmas, think about doing it on our Bookshop.org page - uk.bookshop.org/shop/writersroutineSupport the show -patreon.com/writersroutineko-fi.com/writersroutine@writerspodwritersroutine.com Hosted on Acast. In Keeping Your Integrity Intact, Dr. Michael Youssef warns that the pursuit of popularity is a dangerous trap that leads to compromise and spiritual ruin. Preaching from Acts 14, he contrasts the fleeting praise of the crowd with the steadfast character of Paul and Barnabas—men who refused to be worshiped and remained faithful to the Gospel even when the same crowd turned violent. With bold clarity, Dr. Youssef calls believers to reject the applause of man and live for the glory of Christ alone. In a world obsessed with fame and self-promotion, this message anchors us in the unchanging Truth of Scripture and urges us to guard our integrity, pursue repentance, and walk in obedience to the Lord who never changes.
