The Herle Burly was created by Air Quotes Media with support from our presenting sponsor TELUS, as well as CN Rail, and Fidelity.Greetings, you curiouser and curiouser Herle Burly-ites! You know, there's only ONE Provincial Premier in this country that has bucked the electoral trend since Covid – which is to say, NOT lost the election, or eked out a tiny margin of victory, or just managed to retain a majority with a vastly diminished number of seats. That Premier (and former Herle Burly guest) is Tim Houston of Nova Scotia, who, this week, increased his majority from 34 to 43 seats (out of 55). Crushing the Liberals and making the NDP the new official opposition in the process.  Premier Houston is one of one.Today, we're talking to the leaders and architects of the campaign that helped him do it. A dream team victory lap, as it were: Cameron Mackeen, Tara Miller, and James Mitchener join us today.A few, very brief biographical notes:Cameron MacKeen served as Premier Houston's campaign co-chair for both the 2021 and 2024 elections. He's a managing lawyer with Nova Scotia Legal Aid, and a former Leg. Reporter at the Chronicle Herald.Tara Miller served as co-chair for the 2024 election. She's been recognized by Best Lawyers in Canada for 3 years running … and is a partner, and the “M”, in MDW Law. James Mitchener was campaign manager in both 2021 and 2024. He's currently Premier Houston's Director of Operations and Strategic Relations.I'm going to talk to them about the whole, goddamn successful story today:The only incumbent government in Canada to increase their margin of seats and votes in a high inflation period. How did they do it?The risk/reward calculus for going early. The core strategies. The federal Liberal wedge and why it was so effective.Thank you for joining us on #TheHerleBurly podcast. Feeding your new baby can come with its challenges. You may think that breastfeeding your newborn will come naturally, and for some, it does. However, for many others, it isn't so simple. Breastfeeding is a skill that both mother and baby must practice and learn together. Then, once they have figured out their feeding rhythm, it's time to introduce a bottle, and mothers are left unsure how to do it properly so as not to halt their breastfeeding journey. They wonder how they can successfully combine breastfeeding and bottle-feeding to experience both benefits because moms deserve to feed their babies the way that works best for them. Today's guest is sharing all the tips on how to introduce a bottle to baby, how to combine breastfeeding and bottle-feeding, and all the details parents need to know about Emulait and their baby bottle. Who is Madison Blampied? Today's guest is Madison Blampied. Madi is Vice President of Business Development and Strategic Relations at Emulait. With a keen eye for identifying growth opportunities and fostering strategic partnerships, Madi has learned to balance the demands of a high-powered career with the joys of motherhood. She found Emulait when her 2-year-old was only six weeks old and knew she needed to be a part of this revolutionary product. Now, as she eagerly anticipates the arrival of her second child, her outlook on bottles has shifted since her first pregnancy before Emulait existed. She is passionate about empowering women and giving them the tools to choose the outcome of their feeding journey! What Did We Discuss? In this episode, we chat with Madi about combining breastfeeding and bottle-feeding. We want to help parents feel confident in their feeding journey and support them by answering common questions while providing some helpful tips and tricks we have learned from our hands-on experiences as moms and professionals in the baby space. Here are several of the questions that we covered in our conversation: Can you talk about some of the different ways mothers feed their babies and how bottles play a role in these journeys? What should parents consider when looking for a bottle for a breastfed baby? What makes Emulait's bottle unique? Can you elaborate on the development and science behind this unique product? What tips do you have for introducing a bottle to a baby? What are the biggest challenges you see parents facing when transitioning from breastfeeding to bottle feeding? How can they be overcome? You said your outlook on bottles has shifted since your first pregnancy. Can you tell us more about your experience? What are your top bottle-feeding tips and tricks? Support is so important regardless of how you choose to feed your baby. Please tell our listeners more about how Emulait supports all parents on their feeding journeys. What is one piece of advice you would like to give parents about to embark on their feeding journey? Between the laughter and helpful tips, this was one of my favorite episodes! Money is tight right now and tough times call for a renewed focus on how public money is spent. Every year the UK spends £300bn on third party suppliers so it is vital to ensure we are getting the best value from the goods and services we buy. A big part of any public budget is not just the question of what things to buy, but the process of agreeing the terms and procedures for acquiring them.  The technical term is public procurement. So, in this episode we're going to have a brief look at what's happening in the world of public procurement, or smarter spending, and what's being done to not only improve the UK's procurement regime, but also make it more innovation-friendly. We hear from Lucy Sydney, Head of Head of Strategic Relations, Procurement Reform at the Cabinet Office who's working on the UK's Government's new Transforming Public Procurement Bill. We meet Hao Zheng, Co-Founder and CEO of RoboK, a 3C sensing software company at the coalface of innovating in the transport sector. And we also hear from the Catapult's Ecosystem Director for Place Leadership, Sam Markey.   Theme music on this episode is by Phill Ward Music (www.phillward.com) Show notes: Our Smarter Spending Hub has a range of case studies, playbooks for professionals, and an e-learning module that we've produced in collaboration with Open and Agile Smart Cities. You can also learn about the work of the Innovation Procurement Empowerment Centre (IPEC), a new partnership created to inspire, upskill and empower public authorities in innovation-friendly procurement procedures. You can also learn more about what the UK Government is doing to improve our publice procurement regime by visiting the Transforming Public Procurement landing page where you can find webinars, factsheets, summary guides and even a checklist to help prepare for when the new rules come into force. Stephen and Erin Mote talk about creating expertise throughout organizations by including diverse leaders in discussions, giving and receiving social capital to uplift others, and finding the 80% that we have in common to move missions forward without getting stuck on trying to agree 100%. Erin Mote is the Executive Director and Co-Founder of InnovateEDU. In this role, Erin leads the organization and its major projects including technology product development, work on data interoperability and data systems, and an urban education Fellowship for new educators. She leads the organization's work on creating uncommon alliances to create systems change - in special education, talent development, and data modernization. An enterprise architect, she created, alongside her team, two of InnovateEDU's signature technology products - Cortex, a next-generation personalized learning platform, and Landing Zone - a cutting-edge infrastructure as a service data product. Erin is also the co-founder of Brooklyn Laboratory Charter School with her husband Dr. Eric Tucker. She is a recognized leader in technology, mobile, and broadband and has spent much of her career focused on expanding access to technology in the US and abroad. She has led ground-breaking initiatives, including scaling wireless communications to the developing world, developing global and national strategic technology plans, and working with the country's leading technology companies. Erin has served in an advisory capacity to the White House/OSTP's US Ignite Initiative, the Obama Administration's Global Development Innovation Policy, the State Department's TechCamp program, and the Obama Administration's intra-agency process for Rio 2.0 and Rio+20. Erin served as the founding Chief of Party for the USAID Global Broadband and Innovations Alliance – a $19.5 million global technology expansion project. Erin has served in senior positions with CHF International and Coulter Companies after starting her career as the Director of External and Strategic Relations for Arizona State University. A recognized leader in alliance building, Erin serves in an advisory capacity for several leading international organizations including Digital Promise, SXSWedu Launch, XPrize, and the Barbara Bush Foundation. She is an Aspen Institute Socrates scholar and a proud alumnus of the University of Michigan. Erin Mote on creating expertise throughout organizations: We also believe it's really important to create expertise. Oftentimes one of the things that we'll do is sponsor other leaders to be able to participate in conversations so that it's not always the CEO of an organization that we're inviting to the table. We might invite somebody who's more junior or somebody who hasn't yet had that opportunity to share their voice. This particularly impacts women and people of color. One of the things that we do is stipend folks to participate in some of our projects where we'll be working on large scale infrastructure. We provide a stipend because usually they can only get permission to participate because they're bringing revenue into the organization. It's important for us to always be asking, "how do we expand the social circle we operate in to further increase our alliance building work?" Today, Mayans make up about 42% of the 17 million inhabitants of Guatemala. The aftermath of genocide and civil rights abuses still impact the country. 80 percent of Guatemalan Mayans live in poverty today. 33% cannot read or write and about 8 of 10 children do not graduate from High school.A non-profit called Common Hope seeks to break the cycle of poverty with a wholistic approach to education. Our mission is to enable business owners and HR professionals to attract the right talent by showcasing their company culture. About Us The world of recruiting has changed. Job seekers are no longer looking for just a desk and a paycheck; they want to work for an employer who aligns with their lifestyle and values. They’re looking for a place to belong, to feel respected and to contribute. At WorkScene, we envision a world in which companies move away from traditional job sites toward a more cost-effective, inbound recruiting strategy, one that showcases culture and the qualities job seekers are looking for in an employer. We believe that your culture and employer brand are the most important tools for attracting the right talent. But let’s face it, only candidates who interview in-person can see what makes your company a great place to work. We have found a way to bottle that greatness so it can be shared and used to bring the right talent to your doorstep. WorkScene is the new standard in best recruiting practices. After decades of recruiting, and numerous failed attempts at social recruiting, our founder assembled a team of corporate recruiters, employer branding experts and digital marketing professionals to develop a social media platform designed for recruiting. They evaluated the pro and cons of top social media platforms and job sites to create WorkScene. With a WorkScene Page, you can attract the right talent, build and maintain genuine relationships with the members of your Private Talent Community and, over time, convert job seekers into hires—all while eliminating the need for paid job listings. Give passive and active job seekers a look behind the scenes. Job seekers want to understand your employer value proposition. They want to know all about you, right upfront, and they’re researching your company before they apply. But while they can gather information, they have no way of seeing what it’s really like to work for you until they come in for a job interview. A WorkScene Page gives your business a central place to show job seekers why they should work for you. Sign up now for a FREE 12-month Charter Pro Membership to try WorkScene.com. The newest social media platform designed for recruiting, sourcing, employer branding and showcasing your company's culture.  Just go to www.workscene.com/charter and enter in the guest code FREE2019 A dedicated customer success manager will contact you to answer questions and provide assistance.  https://workscene.com https://twitter.com/WorkSceneHQ https://www.facebook.com/WorkSceneHQ
