Varvara once had a healthy relationship with food, until she moved to the US, where everything changed. Suddenly thrust into the frenzy of American weight-loss culture, she felt like the odd one out in a sea of "lose weight quick" mantras. Varvara found herself in a rut, loathing her reflection in photos and videos. As someone who loves to travel, V was determined to break free from binge eating and reclaim her confidence, and that's when she came across my Nourished & Free program. In this episode, we talk about her wins, struggles, and transformation in her life, career and mind. So, if you're itching to ditch the self-doubt and feel confident in your skin, this episode is a must-listen! TOPICS COVERED

As per usual, all guests were only reflecting their own views. The topic for this panel was transformation when it comes to data and data mesh in general but especially understanding how organizational transformation must play a large part in a data mesh implementation to be successful. And that transformation is not simply making changes, it is making _lasting_ changes. Organizational transformation is a crucial aspect of doing data mesh even if it's not spoken about all that often.Scott note: I wanted to share my takeaways rather than trying to reflect the nuance of the panelists' views individually.Scott's Top Takeaways:Transformation means changing something. We aren't starting from scratch. You have to consider the starting points, not only the target end points - and in data mesh, there isn't really an end. Every organization's transformation starting point, whether a data mesh transformation or otherwise, will be unique so adjust your...

To be clear, she was only representing her own views on the episode. Some key takeaways/thoughts from Iulia's point of view:If you are greatly changing your general approach to something - which data mesh does in many ways - you need to focus some amount on actual transformation. These approaches are not a switch you flip, it takes time and concerted effort to make lasting changes that work well.If an organization hasn't really broadly embraced product thinking, starting with data as a product/product thinking in data can act as a catalyst for other aspects of the business to embrace product thinking. You don't change the organizational mindset through words - you start using new ways of working that change people's mindset as they see the benefit of those ways of working. At the end of the day, talk is cheap. To do data mesh well and have it work for an organization, it's best to tailor to their existing ways of working. Yes, change is necessary but a revolution is far less likely to work than an evolution. How are teams working and where can we make smaller tweaks?Because you need to tailor your implementation to your own organization, any data mesh blueprint that will supposedly work for all organizations is likely to be snake oil at best.?Controversial?: The first two principles of data mesh - domain data ownership and data as a product - have the most impact on the organizational...

Our guest on the podcast this week is Varvara Pakhomenko. Varvara Pakhomenko has been a human rights activist for a very long time. Back in her native Tomsk she was actively involved in human rights activities. Having moved to Moscow, Varvara began working with many human rights activists in the capital, but the geography of her travels remained very wide. Since 2006, Varvara Pakhomenko has worked in conflict zones in the North and South Caucasus: in 2006-2009 at the human rights organization Demos, in 2009-2011 at the Dutch organization Russian Justice Initiative, and since 2011 she has worked as a programme analyst for Europe and Central Asia at the International Crisis Group. When the Russian authorities effectively closed the ICG's Moscow office, Varvara left to work in Ukraine. There she worked first for the UN Development Programme and after that for Geneva Call. A move to Canada seemed to put some distance between her and Europe, but now Varvara Pakhomenko is back again on the old continent. The recording took place on 24 June 2022. This podcast is in Russian. You can also listen to the podcast on our website, SoundCloud, Podcasts.com, Spotify, iTunes, Google Podcasts, Anchor and YouTube. You can also listen to the podcast in full here (see also below): The questions we ask Varvara Pakhomenko include: · How did human rights activism come into your life? · One of Tomsk's leading human rights activists was Boris Maksovich Kreindel. Sergei Nikitin writes on Facebook: “I remember when I was working on South Ossetia in 2010,” Varya Pakhomenko told Simon Cosgrove and I. “I had to make a difficult decision at the time: I did not know what to do. I called Sasha Cherkasov and asked him what to do in this situation. Sasha replied: ‘You know, no one can make this decision better than you right now. Because you know all that's going on there better than anyone.' And at that moment I realized that these fine people had begun to see me as an equal colleague.” In this podcast, Varya Pakhomenko talks about her native Tomsk, about Tomsk human rights activist Boris Kreindel, and about how a student from Siberia became a human rights activist. Varya and I were in South Ossetia together two weeks after the end of the war in 2008, so I had a chance to work with her myself then. After Russia, Varvara Pakhomenko has worked in Ukraine: in the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and, after that, with the Geneva Call organization. It was then that she participated in training the Ukrainian Armed Forces, teaching the Ukrainian military how to comply with international humanitarian norms and protect civilians in armed conflict.

I was in a studio session a couple of weeks ago with one of my members, Varvara. We were talking about how distracting it can be when you see the work of others and think 'ooh, I want to make art like that'. We then go on a pursuit to make that type of art and sometimes it works and sometimes it really doesn't. In this week's episode, I talk about why this happens and also how liking our work can change from one week to the next and that's ok! Enjoy
You can help establish safe birthing centers for Ukrainian women.Sunflower Birthing Cirlces: We are grassroots women from around the world, shocked and shaken by the genocide and ecocide, in Ukraine. We saw the image of the pregnant woman on a stretcher coming out of the bombed maternity hospital, in Mariupol where 20,000 civilians at least have died, and hundreds of children have died. We saw Marcus Yam's images of the women in the basements of Kharkiv, going without adequate food, water and medical care for weeks. We watched the images feeling powerless. But then... a seed, a spark, a dream... seemed to touch us all simultaneously.FEEL, THINK, DOLike a river of birds in migration, we were moved to come together in circle one night on Zoom in early March, and share with tears of grief and rage that, which was breaking our hearts. As our hearts opened with compassion, we invited each one to think together creatively about possible ways to collectively act on behalf of our sisters there, especially the late term pregnant ones in dire living situations. Then we all began a miraculous whirl of community development and organizing, meeting and developing relationships with birthworkers across Poland who were touched by Varvara's writing, Asiya's thoughtful planning, and Nadiia's sensitivity in working with women coming from her hometown of war-struck Kharkiv and her desire to bring others out of danger.Find out more and how YOU can help!https://www.sunflowerbirthingcircles.org/solidarityhttps://www.thecore.spacehttp://daleallenproductions.com/index.htmlhttp://www.greententcircle.com

On February 24, 2022, Vladimir Putin launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, under the pretext of defending two unrecognized, Kremlin-backed "republics" in the country's east. Before this, since it began in 2014, the conflict in Ukraine's eastern Donbas region had waxed and waned, resulting in thousands of casualties on both sides. To find out more about life in the Donbas over the past eight years, Meduza turned to human rights and humanitarian law expert Varvara Pakhomenko, who was part of the UN mission in Ukraine from 2016 to 2018, and went on to work as the country director for Ukraine for the humanitarian organization Geneva Call.

Varvara Stepanova was a leader of the constructivist movement and co-author of the constructivist manifesto. Described as “a frenzied artist,” she designed books, magazines, posters, advertisements, as well as textiles, clothing, and costumes. On top of that, she was an author and poet. Her design style and aesthetic was avant garde, modern, and often characterized by simplicity and geometric forms and patterns, but Varvara was never content with stasis. She constantly evolved her style and worked to develop new concepts and ideas. As a co-founder of the Constructivist movement, her work typifies the aesthetic and philosophies of Constructivism. While Varavara worked on many of her own projects, she also did many together with her husband, Alexander Rodchenko, another well-known Constructivist designer. Her work often gets linked to Rodchenko's, and it's Rodchenko who gets mentioned in histories of graphic design and credit for designs that should be attributed to Stepanova as well. At a time when women were largely still expected to be no more than wives and mothers, Stepanova was a woman who made an unmistakable mark on art and design.TIMELINE1894 – b Kovno [now Kaunas, Lithuania]1910-11 – Attended Kazan' School of Art (meets Aleksandr Rodchenko)1913-14 – Attended Stroganov School, studied with Konstantin Yuon & Il'ya Mashkov1920-30 – Taught at the Vkhutemas design school1921 – Work included as part of the 5 x 5 = 25 exhibition1922 – Co-wrote the Constructivist Manifesto with Alexander Rodchenko & Aleksei Gan 1922 – Designed the set and costumes for The Death of Tarelkin1923 – Worked at the First Textile Printing Factory designing fabrics1924 – Vladimir Lenin dies, marks the beginning of the end of the Soviet Avant Garde1925 – Costume designs for the play The Death of Tarelkin were exhibited in the Soviet Pavilion at the International Exhibition of Modern Industrial and Decorative Arts in Paris1932 – Independent artist groups are banned by Josef Stalin1958 – d Moscow, May 20thREFERENCESAdaskina, N. Empowered Relationship Podcast: Your Relationship Resource And Guide
As a practitioner, Varvara originally trained in psychotherapy and spiritual development. Because of her personal journey, she later found out that our fear of relating doesn't necessarily come from our brain, but from our body and the lack of safety we experienced as an infant. This is where her passion for somatic teaching comes from. Varvara joins us in today's episode to explain how developmental trauma can limit intimacy and connection in adult partnership, how our implicit memories can create conflict in our relationships, and how healing can help us take responsibility for our experience and reach out to our partner for support. Varvara Erochina is a somatic teacher and coach dedicated to personal and collective healing. She offers a multi-disciplinary approach to healing, informed by trauma resolution, Gestalt psychotherapy, spirituality, and life coaching. Her popular course 'How to Feel' offers practical education and embodied practice for feeling your feelings. She is the creator of Cards for Self-Care and offers 1-1 and group coaching, workshops, retreats, classes, and more. Check out the transcript to this episode in Dr. Jessica Higgin's website. In this episode: 04:35 The lived experience of each individual comes from the very first relationships we form with ourselves and our caregivers when we were born. It also goes back to how that relationship is built upon memories that form in the body as we grow. 13:51 Talking about trauma can scare and put so many of us into defense. However, it's essential to recognize trauma as a chronic experience of not having our needs met as an infant. 15:44 The habits of blaming our partners or shutting ourselves off emotionally are the wise survival mechanisms we unconsciously developed as infants. Reclaiming those habits as such will help us move into greater self-connectedness. 21:03 Implicit memories, which is a formal term for feeling memories, are the thought patterns developed in response to a feeling we couldn't process as an infant. 23:18 Corrective experience happens when a new neural pathway gets created. This neural pathway gets deepened when we're being honest about how we feel, and when we experience appropriate co-regulation and safe attachment. 27:02 Corrective experience is also one of the best ways to experience a newfound safety, freedom, and possibility in our relationships. In order to access this, we must start by acknowledging our feeling of shame, understanding why it has developed in our younger years, and naming its impact by knowing whether it works in our relational life. 33:20 Whether or not our partner is ready to work with the process, we should always start with ourselves; then we go on and take that as far as we want in our relationship. 37:26 Babies experience chronic stress responses when parents appear frightened or frightening to them. If we have this kind of parenting, our infant implicit memory gets activated when we experience ourselves or our partners being frightened or frightening. Therefore, it's incredibly important to use our sensation and non-verbal clues at that moment to notice and differentiate between our adult selves and that very young response. 42:31 How to get in touch with Varvara Mentioned Be With website Varvara Erochina Instagram Connect with Dr. Jessica Higgins Facebook: facebook.com/EmpoweredRelationship Instagram: instagram.com/drjessicahiggins Podcast: drjessicahiggins.com/podcasts/ Pinterest: pinterest.com/EmpowerRelation LinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/drjessicahiggins Twitter: @DrJessHiggins Website: drjessicahiggins.com Email: jessica@drjessicahiggins.com If you have a topic you would like me to discuss, please contact me by clicking on the “Ask Dr. Jessica Higgins” button here. Blankets Project 2018-2019, Eight felt blankets, screen print, metal hinges. 180cm x 220cm eachThis is the project about migration and borders, belonging and alienation, statelessness and trauma. As part of The Sea is the Limit project I made a series of eight printed felt blankets that reflect on the experience of being a migrant. The blankets are conceived as an interactive installation, where the participants are invited to wear the blankets in the exhibition space as an act of sharing and empathy. Inna's Dream. 2019 Hand tufted Axminster wool carpet objects, digital embroidery on velvet, acrylic and emulsion on wall. 7 m x 5.5 m x 4 m. In 1930 my great uncle, Vadim Borisovitch Shavrov, a well-known Soviet engineer and author, designed and built the first Soviet amphibious plane Sh-2 in his apartment in Petrograd. Between 1934 and 1964 the Sh-2 flying boat was used by the agricultural, medical and military sectors, as well as in exploration of the Arctic. In my recent installation Inna's Dream, I reinterpret the Sh-2 by rendering it in carpet and textiles. This demilitarized and domesticized version of a deflated military machine echoes the collapsed Soviet dreamworld, while the materials I use comment on women's labour. The Palace of the Soviets and King Kong. 2020 Digital knitting, hand stitching and embroidery, wool and synthetic thread. 122cm x 255 cm In these recent works that created during the lockdown, I am questioning the symbols of global power and authority by juxtaposing iconic images from movie stills and archival documents associated with the Communist and the Capitalist empirical architecture, the Palace of the Soviets and the Empire State Building. I employ methodologies of knitting, stitching and embroidery, to physically interlink the historically opponent political narratives that appear uncannily similar.

Last week I launched my NEW virtual emotional eating support program, The Break Free Method, which teaches a whole new way of looking at and managing emotional eating. One of the strategies I discuss in great depth in the course is the importance of learning how to sit with uncomfortable emotions, rather than flee them by turning to food. It's something we aren't really taught as kids. Fast forward to adulthood, and we're thrown into a society filled with stressors and varying emotions left, right and centre without any idea as to how to cope or deal with them. Enter: Varvara Erochina; coach, teacher and lifelong student of embodiment. Varvara is formally trained in experiential psychotherapy, spiritual care and coaching. Varvara has spent the last thirteen years offering embodied emotional and spiritual support through one on one and group work, writing, teaching, ritual and facilitation. In this episode we discuss: The fear of sitting with emotions Reframing emotions and feelings How our emotions can be here for us The influence white supremacy, race and gender have on our emotions The intensity of emotions lasting 90 seconds Hot seat coaching: processing anger Learning to sit with emotions to manage emotional eating How parents can positively support their kids in embracing their emotions Nudity and embodiment THANKS FOR LISTENING! Resonance #140 w/ Varvara (21.04.2018) by Nikita Zabelin
Producent: Susanne Skog Musik: Jesper Norda

If not, why?" USAG: USA Gymnastics makes reports to law enforcement/child protection services consistent with its legal obligations, as well as to the U.S. Center for SafeSport. FEEDBACK Body Hair and Male Hugs Double Don't Square the E Score: Hey guys, this is Evan the engineer. I just wanted to comment on the mathematical implications of the notion Jessica has suggested several times in the past about E-score deductions being squared. I agree that something needs to be done to increase the impact the execution score has on the final score relative to that of the D score; especially on vault, I think a fall should be something like a 3-point deduction, but that’s just me editorializing. I absolutely appreciate Jessica’s sentiment here, but I think a more mathematically-sound approach would be for deductions to be scaled geometrically, i.e., multiplied by some common factor across the board, like doubling all deductions (incidentally, halving the D score and keeping the deductions the same would have the same effect mathematically, which if I’m not mistaken I believe Bruno Grandi actually suggested doing himself), or multiplying by some other specified factor. The problem with squaring E-score deductions is that the increase in a gymnast’s deductions becomes de-linearized relative to the scores of other gymnasts; that is, the amount the deductions are increased varies relative to the magnitude of the deductions themselves, rather than by some fixed factor, which would be more fair. For instance, consider a geometric scaling up of deductions (what I think is fair) by a factor of 2. Gymnast A originally receives an E score of 8.5 (1.5 in deductions) while gymnast B receives an E score of 8.0 (2.0 in deductions); if these deductions were each scaled upward by a factor of 2 gymnast A would receive an E score of 7.0 (3.0 in deductions) while gymnast B would receive an E score of 6.0 (4.0 in deductions). Relative fairness is preserved because though both gymnasts are deducted more harshly, Gymnast B still receives 133% the deductions of gymnast A in each case (2/1.5=4/3=1.33), and ultimately because of this the weight of the D-scores would be reduced. However, squaring deductions sacrifices this deduction-increase relativity; using this approach gymnast A would receive an E score of 7.75 (1.5^2=2.25 in deductions), while gymnast B would receive an E score of 6.0 (2.0^2=4.0 in deductions). Here gymnast B receives 178% of the deductions of gymnast A [note gymnast A’s score increases under this system while gymnast B’s remains the same]; effectively, gymnast B is deducted more for being deducted more in the first place. Perhaps paradoxically, because power series converge with a base value below 1, if a gymnast C originally receives an E-score of 9.3 (0.7 in deductions), under the squaring system their E-score would actually increase to 9.51 (0.7^2=0.49 in deductions). For these reasons, I think elevating the importance of execution could be best achieved by scaling the E-score deductions up by some factor geometrically rather than squaring, or, novel concept, if judges actually took the deductions they could/should/need to at all times. Because, math. Thanks for reading. SUPPORT THE SHOW Join Club Gym Nerd here. Buy one of our awesome shirts here. Eesti Ekspressi podcasti kuuendas saates on külas ajakir…, ptüi, poliitik Viktoria Ladõnskaja, kes räägib, mida tema arvates politsei Varvara juhtumi puhul valesti tegi. Samuti on stuudios Jakob Rosin, kes jagab pimedana reisimise kogemusi. Tänases Eesti Ekspressis kirjutas Viktoria Ladõnskaja, et politsei kolistas Varvara juhtumi lõpetamisel ämbritega. Endise ajakirjanikuna tõi ta välja just venekeelse elanikkonna korralikult informeerimata jätmise, mistõttu levivad nüüd Narvas umbusust nõretavad meeleolud. Jakob Rosin kirjutas lehes enda kogemusi reisil Birminghami. Sünnist saati pime Jakob kirjeldab podcastis, kuidas üldse pime reisib, mida vaatab ja kas ka tema masside saatel ikka Eiffeli torni Pariisis ära külastab. Saate lõpetab Jakobi enda loodud laul Veetilgad. Saadet juhivad Eesti Ekspressi ajakirjanikud Dannar Leitmaa ja Toomas „Vabakäik“ Vabamäe.
