College Football Week 7 is upon us, and we're diving deep into what might be the steeliest slate of the season. This isn't about flashy plays or explosive offenses—this week belongs to the teams willing to do the dirty work in the trenches. After walking back through some extra thoughts on Alabama-Mizzou, Ohio State-Illinois and Indiana-Oregon, we get down to business. In this episode, we break down every major matchup and the debates get heated as we disagree on nearly every pick, including whether Oklahoma can shock Texas, if Auburn can pull the upset in Jordan-Hare, and which team controls the trenches in Michigan vs USC. Plus, we preview BYU-Arizona, Iowa State-Colorado, and a loaded slate of under-the-radar games that could shape the playoff picture. Plus, as a special treat, ESPN's Chris Fowler joins us to discuss the season's biggest surprises, why he misses calling games out West, and more. We also get his take on the unpredictability of this college football season and what makes a great broadcast moment. When it comes to money, the issue isn't just budgets or bank accounts—it's identity and ownership. In Christ, we're a new creation and God's dwelling place, which means money is something we manage for the Owner. Today, we'll explore what it looks like to live as God's stewards with Dr. Derwin Gray.Dr. Derwin L. Gray is a former NFL player turned pastor, author, and speaker. He co-founded Transformation Church in South Carolina and is the author of multiple books on faith, discipleship, race, and gospel-centered unity. From Ownership to StewardshipOne of the most significant shifts we can make as followers of Christ is to stop thinking like owners and start thinking like stewards. Scripture makes the point that: “You are not your own, for you were bought with a price” (1 Corinthians 6:19–20).God doesn't want something from us—He wants something for us. He longs for us to share His generous heart, free from the grip of idolatry. When Jesus said in Matthew 6:24, “You cannot serve both God and money,” He drew a line we cannot straddle. Money is a tool to serve God's purposes, not a master to rule our lives.A powerful illustration of this danger can be found in The Lord of the Rings. Smeagol, once a hobbit, discovered a ring of dark power and quickly became consumed by it. Calling it “my precious,” he was slowly deformed—body and soul—by his obsession.Money can do the same thing when it takes God's place in our lives. Instead of being a tool to serve God, it becomes a master that warps our hearts and dehumanizes us. But when grace reshapes our perspective, we see money for what it truly is: not a god to worship, but a resource to manage for God's glory.Generosity Flows from the GospelThe Apostle Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians 8:9, “You know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sake He became poor, so that you by His poverty might become rich.”Generosity is not our idea—it is God's nature. Giving is worship, an overflow of gratitude to the One who gave Himself for us. When we give our first and best to God, we not only honor Him but also discover peace, freedom, and deeper trust. This isn't only about giving. Stewardship encompasses saving, investing, and living debt-free. But generosity is foundational. When we trust God with our finances, we learn to trust Him with every other area of our lives. Our High CallingWe are not owners. We are managers of what the King of kings has placed in our hands. Every dollar entrusted to us is an opportunity to worship Him, serve others, and reflect His generous heart. When we embrace this calling, stewardship stops being a burden and becomes a beautiful privilege. How might God be inviting you to live more fully as His steward today? On Today's Program, Rob Answers Listener Questions:I had to retire early because of health issues for both me and my wife. As a custodian, I wasn't able to save much, and now we're living on about $2,400 a month from Social Security. What's the best way to wisely manage these limited resources?I'm 80 years old and have been taking required minimum distributions from my IRA for about ten years, giving some of those funds to charity each year. On Tuesday's Mark Levin Show, the West is committing suicide through weakness, appeasement, and open borders, allowing a fusion of Marxists and Islamists to exploit democratic systems via immigration. It is very important that we get the hostages out of Gaza, but it's also important that Hamas is destroyed, because they will come back again. It is an ideology that doesn't die, and the West doesn't understand the ideology, or people in the West don't want to deal with it. Anti-Semitism is spreading in Western capitals, including New York. It's a gut cancer and President Trump is the only Western leader fighting it through actions on colleges, funding, and preventing U.S. decline like Britain and France. Also, on the second anniversary of Hamas's October 7 attack Zohran Mamdani accused Prime Minister Netanyahu of launching a genocidal war in Gaza. Mamdani is a Marxist Islamist who camouflages his Hamas-loving agenda under civil liberties rhetoric. Mamdani is silent on Muslim-on-Muslim violence in Syria, Yemen, and Lebanon by groups like Hezbollah. Later Jim Trusty calls in to discuss the lenient 97-month sentence given to Nichola Roske for attempting to assassinate Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh in June 2022. The Biden-appointed Judge Paula Xinis Boardman showed bias by factoring in Roske's transgender identity and leftist politics, imposing a term far below the 360-month-to-life guidelines. This kid glove treatment sets a dangerous precedent that could encourage copycat ideological attacks on constitutional figures. Trusty also criticizes lawfare tactics in Portland, where local officials submit polished affidavits claiming no need for the National Guard amid riots, downplaying issues like lasers and guillotines near ICE headquarters. Finally, Speaker Mike Johnson calls in to explain that the Democrats, led by Chuck Schumer, are using a government shutdown as a distraction and red herring to provide Schumer political cover against potential challenges from figures like AOC. The health care subsidy issue is a fabricated fight, as it was a COVID-era policy set to expire December 31 by Democrats themselves. Learn more about your ad choices. Before Parasite made him a household name, Bong Joon-ho crafted a haunting masterpiece. Memories of Murder (released in 2003) tells the story of two detectives in 1980s rural South Korea hunting the country's first known serial killer...a case that would remain unsolved for over 30 years. Based on the true story of the Hwaseong serial murders, the film is a devastating exploration of incompetence, corruption, and misogyny. Join Lia & Megan as we revisit the muddy fields, cramped interrogation rooms, and that final iconic haunting shot. Note: We recorded this episode in early June right before Lia went to South Korea. This was before we began using video software so please note that component won't be included in this episode. Ready to download your first audiobook? When we think about financial threats, inflation, taxes, and debt are often the first that come to mind. But Scripture tells us there's a deeper, more dangerous threat—covetousness. Left unchecked, it poisons our joy, drives us to make poor financial choices, and blinds us to God's generosity.Covetousness is more than wanting what we don't have. It's a disordered desire that whispers: “I must have that to be happy, safe, or fulfilled.” Paul warns in Colossians 3:5, calling covetousness “idolatry.” Why? Because it dethrones God and places possessions on the throne of our hearts. In our finances, covetousness often manifests subtly—comparing our homes to those of our neighbors, upgrading cars that are still running well, or chasing investments out of envy. These patterns reveal misplaced worship. The Antidote: Contentment in ChristThe opposite of covetousness isn't deprivation—it's contentment. In Philippians 4:11–13, Paul testifies that he has learned contentment in every circumstance through Christ's strength.Contentment doesn't come naturally—it's cultivated. And when we trust in God's abundance, we no longer grasp at what others have. Instead, we rest in His provision. Think of Jesus feeding the 5,000: what looked like scarcity became abundance in His hands.Social media magnifies our envy, turning vacations, houses, and life stages into comparison traps. The tenth commandment—“You shall not covet”—goes straight to the heart, reminding us that God cares not just about our actions but about our desires. If you feel this struggle, take heart—you're not alone. The Spirit empowers us to shift from envy to gratitude, from restless striving to restful trust.Practical Steps to Combat CovetousnessFighting covetousness is not about self-shame—it's about redirecting our worship. Here are three practices rooted in Scripture:Practice Gratitude—1 Thessalonians 5:18 calls us to give thanks in all circumstances. Keeping a daily gratitude list shifts focus from what's missing to what God has given. Budget as Worship—A budget isn't just restrictive—it's a discipleship tool. By directing money toward giving, saving, and wise spending, we declare, “Lord, I want You to guide my resources.” Give Generously—Paul urges believers to “be rich in good works, generous and ready to share” (1 Tim. 6:18). Every gift declares that our identity is not in what we own but in who owns us.Redirecting Desire Toward ChristJesus warns in Luke 12:15: “Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one's life does not consist in the abundance of possessions.” The rich fool who built bigger barns illustrates the danger of letting wealth replace intimacy with God.Covetousness dies when Christ becomes enough. Hebrews 13:5 reminds us: “Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for He has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you.'”At its root, covetousness is a worship issue. We long for what others have because our hearts are restless for the only One who satisfies. St. Augustine put it well: “You have made us for Yourself, O Lord, and our heart is restless until it rests in You.”The cure isn't less desire but rightly directed desire—desire fulfilled in Christ. When we practice gratitude, budget as worship, and live generously, we shift our gaze from possessions that perish to a Savior who is more than enough. On Today's Program, Rob Answers Listener Questions:We sold our house after some delays, but in the meantime, I withdrew funds from my IRA, intending to pay them back within 60 days. In America and much of the West, it's become axiomatic to regard colonialism as a stain on human history. The story told in classrooms and popular culture is one of unrelenting exploitation of hapless people of color by white imperialists. And the narrative has contemporary relevance: demands for reparations for the victims of oppression - But is the modern West's history really a litany of crimes against humanity? Should we pay reparations to the victims? On this episode of Free Expression, Gerry Baker explores these themes with Nigel Biggar, author of “Reparations: Slavery and the Tyranny of Imaginary Guilt.” They discuss Lord Biggar's experiences in the “culture wars,” the attempts to silence him, and take a critical look at the belief that a debt needs to be paid to the descendants of slaves. Two years ago today, Hamas perpetrated the worst massacre of Jewish people since the Holocaust. In this episode of WTH Extra! Dany and Marc discuss Dany's article in the WTH Substack, Two years after October 7, there is no path to peace. Following October 7, 2023, the ideological defeat of Hamas has remained paramount to the survival of Israel. Hamas's goal remains the same: the complete destruction of the Jewish State. Dany reminds us that what Western leaders fail to understand is that this fight has never been about land; and for as long as the “Palestinian” idea is built upon the destruction of the Jewish state, there will be no peace. A “yes, but” agreement from Hamas changes nothing. So, what's next? Is the answer a “de-Hamasifaction” like that of post-World War II Germany? And could it extend to both Gaza and the West? Read Dany's article in the WTH Substack here.

In a special bonus episode, author Sally Lloyd-Jones and voice actor Sir David Suchet offer a behind-the-scenes look at their collaboration on “Jesus, Our True Friend.” They delve into their individual approaches to portraying biblical figures, emphasizing the importance of simplifying stories for children without oversimplifying them. The episode also highlights their shared anticipation of hearing Jesus' laugh and their conviction that everything they know about God points to love. Quotes “Sometimes I think in all that we give children, we forget to give them hope, and we are in danger of putting all the emphasis on them and what they're supposed to be doing. And that just leaves you in despair because that's the moral code and we can't live up to it. I just wanted them to have [Jesus, Our True Friend] that would tell them, ‘You have a true friend and He's with you and He loves you.'” - Sally Lloyd-Jones “As a little girl, I had this wrong idea about God. I thought he was hard and cruel and angry and about the rules. And it's so wrong, isn't it? [Jesus, Our True Friend] shows God's heart that we know comes through His son, Jesus.” - Sally Lloyd-Jones “Being simple isn't simplistic. In my writing, I have to distill down, but I must never dumb down. I must always get to the heart of the truth.” - Sally Lloyd-Jones “We're told in the Bible that we see God through Jesus. My goal was to show how kind God the Father is and God the Son. And it's all coming from joy, that's how the world began.” - Sally Lloyd-Jones “It's all love. God is love.” - Sir David Suchet “In the West, we try to be rational and understand everything, and unless something equals something else, we're not content. But with faith, with spirituality, one has to learn to be content living with mystery.” - Sir David Suchet “You have to be known to feel the love, don't you? If He knows you completely and He loves you completely, then there's huge comfort.” - Sally Lloyd-Jones Resources Mentioned in This Episode Jesus, Our True Friend The Jesus Storybook Bible The Story of God's Great Love collection David Suchet Hercule Poirot Madeleine L'Engle Jerusalem Chamber of Westminster Abbey C.S. George Jared : Witches in West Memphis: The West Memphis ThreeThis might be the most unjust prosecution in U.S. legal history. If you think what happened to Steven Avery in the true crime film, Making a Murderer, was shocking you will be completely appalled by what happened to three little boys and three teens in Arkansas in 1993. Three 8-year-old boys vanished from their West Memphis neighborhood one sunny afternoon. A day later their mangled, nude bodies are found in a drainage ditch. Police and prosecutors believe the killings are related to the occult. Three teens are arrested one month later. Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin, and Jessie Misskelley Jr. are convicted. There's only one problem. Overwhelming scientific evidence proves they're innocent and witness after witness has come forward to admit lies were told in court during the original trials. Award-winning journalist George Jared takes readers inside one of the most famous criminal cases in U.S. legal history. Witches in West Memphis gives a comprehensive insiders' view into the West Memphis Three case. No journalist has written more stories about the case than Jared. The author recounts his firsthand court coverage, interviews with witnesses, research, and other information he gathered in the case. Those interviews include a Death Row interview with Damien Echols, interviews with Jason Baldwin, and Jessie Misskelley Jr., and interviews with other suspects, including Terry Hobbs. He's been credited in numerous documentaries including the Academy Award nominated film Paradise Lost III: Purgatory and the New York Times best seller Life After Death. Witches graphically recounts how three Boy Scouts – Stephen “Stevie” Branch, Michael Moore, and Christopher Byers – rode their bikes after school on a bright afternoon. Their bodies are found in a wooded area near their homes the next day. The manner of death and the way they were bound, ankle to wrist, made authorities think Satanists might have sacrificed the children. Echols, a troubled teen with a seedy past, was immediately identified as a possible suspect. His best-friend, Jason Baldwin, and another teen known to them, Jessie Misskelley Jr., are arrested June 3, 1993, and charged with murder. No real evidence tied the teens to the crime, but an error-riddled confession by Misskelley was the proof used to seal the verdicts in the case. Read how they, referred to as the West Memphis Three, toiled in prison for years as their case stagnated in the Arkansas judicial system. As time passed, overwhelming scientific evidence surfaced. Witnesses changed their statements. New suspects rose to the surface. No author, documentary filmmaker, or journalist has had more access in this case. Witches is written in an easy to read, narrative-style form. “For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.” - 2 Timothy 1:7When it comes to investing, wisdom means keeping emotions in check. Fear, greed, overconfidence, and regret can all derail sound decisions. Dr. Art Rainer joins us today to share four ways emotions ruin smart investing—and how you can avoid those traps.Dr. Art Rainer is the founder of the Institute for Christian Financial Health and Christian Money Solutions. He is a regular contributor here at Faith & Finance and the author of Money in the Light of Eternity: What the Bible Says about Your Financial Purpose.Don't Let Emotions Derail Your InvestmentsWhen it comes to investing, emotions can be your worst enemy. Allowing emotions to guide your investment decisions will most likely lead you to buy high and sell low. That's the opposite of building a solid retirement fund.So how can investors avoid the emotional traps that derail wise investing? Here are four common ways emotions can ruin sound investment strategies.1. Focusing on the Present Instead of the FutureThe stock market fluctuates daily, sometimes even hourly. Many investors get caught in the drama of short-term swings. But we must remind ourselves that we're not investing for today, we're investing for the future.Keeping your eyes fixed on long-term goals helps put temporary volatility in perspective. The market may dip, but over time, patience and consistency are what build wealth.2. Letting Fear Take ControlFear often shows up during a market downturn. In 2008, as markets plummeted, many investors panicked and withdrew their money. Later, most admitted that the decision was a mistake. In fact, steady contributions during down markets actually allow for the purchase of more shares at lower prices—a benefit to long-term investors. This is a process called “dollar-cost averaging”. Dollar-cost averaging is an investing strategy where you contribute a fixed amount of money at regular intervals, regardless of market conditions. Over time, this helps reduce the impact of market volatility by buying more shares when prices are low and fewer when prices are high.Fear may feel protective, but it usually leads to missed opportunities.3. Becoming Overconfident in a Rising MarketJust as fear hurts during downturns, overconfidence can be just as dangerous when markets rise. We saw this during the dot-com bubble in 2000 and again in 2020.As stock prices climb, inexperienced investors often rush in, assuming the market is “easy money.” They may chase riskier investments without understanding the dangers, setting themselves up for painful losses when the bubble bursts.4. Dwelling on RegretRegret over past decisions is natural, but it can tempt us to overcorrect. For example, selling too soon because of a bad memory from the last downturn—or holding too long trying to “make up” for past mistakes.Instead of being trapped by regret, let past experiences guide wiser choices without driving reactionary ones. The Bible tells us that saving is wise, but it also cautions against letting fear or greed rule our hearts. Wise investing requires patience, discipline, and trust in God's provision—not reactionary emotions.Get Help From a Certified Christian Financial CounselorFor those struggling with debt, budgeting, or saving for the future, Dr. Rainer recommends connecting with a Certified Christian Financial Counselor (CertCFC). These professionals are trained to help individuals and couples align their finances with biblical principles. You can search for a counselor in your area at ChristianFinancialHealth.com.On Today's Program, Rob Answers Listener Questions:I'm trying to help someone who has three credit card debts that have gone to collections. The general consensus seems to be that the Eastern Conference is far better than the West this year. While that may true in terms of depth, the reality is that the top four or five teams in the West can stand toe-to-toe with their Eastern counterparts. To help make that case, we brought back Backheeled.com's Joe Lowery, who also shares some of his early end-of-season award picks. You can support Joe's work as well as ours by upgrading your membership to the Advocate level or above, which includes a complimentary subscription to Backheeled.Sponsor

When it comes to the concept of The West, its scope and principles have been criticized both contemporarily and historically. How did the West emerge as a coherent concept, and what has it meant over time?Georgios Varouxakis is a Professor in the History of Political Thought at Queen Mary University of London, where he is also the Co-director of the Centre for the Study of the History of Political Thought. He is also the author of several books, and his newest book is titled The West: The History of an Idea.Greg and Georgios discuss Giorgios's new book, 'The West: The History of an Idea,' and explore the origins, evolution, and various interpretations of the concept of 'the West.' Their conversation covers some popular misconceptions about the West, reasons behind its historical development, and the roles nations like Greece, Russia, and Ukraine have played in shaping the West's identity. Giorgios emphasizes how the West has been a flexible and evolving idea, open to new members and continuously redefined through history. *unSILOed Podcast is produced by University FM.*Episode Quotes:The two myths of the West's origins03:06: The popular conceptions are that the West must have always existed. People take for granted that at least since the ancient Greeks, there is a West that has resisted the invasion of Asia through the Persian Empire and that in the Battle of Marathon, the West defined itself and defeated. A projection of things that people later imagined. In this sense, ancient Greeks saw themselves as Greeks. They did not see themselves as West or Europe or anything else. The other end of the spectrum is that the West must have begun with a Cold War, that surely the West is a creation of the post–First World War situation where the United States leads a group of peoples versus the Soviet Union, and that is the West. These are the two popular extremes. Popular conceptions that I consider, the two ends of the spectrum. The West as an open-ended idea17:14: The West had inherent from its inception an open-endedness that was not based on just ethnic descent or just religion.Richard Wright: The gadfly of the West37:14: [Richard Wright] says, "I'm Western, but I now realize I'm more Western than the West. I'm more advanced than the West. I believe in the Western principles and values, and constitutional and political and other philosophical ideas. I was taught, I believe in freedom of speech, separation of, and the of. These are not necessarily practiced much of the time by Western governments and elites. So he becomes literally like Socrates was the gadfly of Athenian democracy. Richard Wright becomes the gadfly of the West, saying, 'I'm criticizing you because you're not doing the Western thing. You're not Western enough.' Literally, he says, 'The West is not Western enough.'"Why the West should be improved, not abolished47:48: My argument is peoples and their leaderships make decisions, and they may change allegiances. They may adopt institutions, alliances, and cultural references that their ancestors did not have a century or two ago, come from a country that. An experiment in that these experiments may change. You know, things may change, but I do not think anytime soon Greece will join some Eastern or whatever alliance. So to the extent that what anyone can predict, the attractiveness of the West is exactly this combination of, and an entity. As we keep saying, it should be criticized and improved. So it is not abolishing the West that I would recommend, it is improving the West and making the West live up to more of its aspirations and principles.Show Links:Recommended Resources:John Stuart MillAuguste ComteOttoman EmpirePeter the GreatCatherine the GreatGeorg Wilhelm Friedrich HegelAhmed RızaOliver GoldsmithJean-Jacques RousseauGermaine de StaëlThomas MannFrancis LieberDonald TrumpSteve BannonOswald SpenglerWestern CivilizationWalter LippmannW. There is a hip trend among the degenerate online "Right" to side with Gaza and the Muslim Brotherhood while blaming Israel for everything. They claim to want to rid ourselves of foreign influence, but they are the ones who are in fact corrupted by the worst forms of foreign influence. On today's special episode with Middle East analyst Jordan Schachtel, we look at the Gaza war two years later and raise concerns about the Trump deal. The objective on the Right was to dial back our focus on the Middle East, but Qatari business interests and influence ops are actually getting us sucked in farther on behalf of the most radical Islamists. Hamas seems to always get a free pass to blow through deadlines. Jordan is also concerned about what this international peace force in Gaza will do and who will be on the ground. Arab influence continues to corrupt the conversation on the Right and create a circle of stupidity whereby people who claim Islam is incompatible with the West have no problem with its influence or even foreign aid to their prerogatives. Conflicted: 7/7 The Inside Story is now live to all our dear listeners! New episodes of this 6 part Conflicted special documentary series will release every Monday. But if you want to listen to them all right now and ad-free, you'll have to sign up to the Conflicted Community. All the information you need to sign up is on this link: https://conflicted.supportingcast.fm/ -- On March 22, 2017, the Westminster Bridge attack killed five people, marking the start of a year which would see five attacks kill dozens of people in the UK. They were all carried out with the most rudimentary means possible, and by singular actors working alone. This fifth episode of Conflicted: 7/7 The Inside Story tells the story of how we got there… By the early 2010s, the relationship between the British state and Muslim communities was strained, with the rise of far right groups becoming an ever more pressing issue. And abroad too, things were becoming ever more precarious. In the wake of war in Syria, the terror group ISIS stepped into the vacuum – hundreds of Europeans went to join their cause. So how would UK counter terrorism respond? Would the Prevent strategy be able to evolve alongside it to stop school children travelling to Syria? And how would this new phenomenon change the nature of terror in the West? We'll hear from victims of terror, academics and more to find out. Conflicted - 7/7 The Inside Story is produced by Message Heard for Wondery. Hosted by Thomas Small. This series was written and produced by Harry Stott and Leo Danczak. Production Coordinator is Kirsty McLean. Sound design and engineering by Alan Leer, Ivan Eastley and Lizzy Andrews. Music by Tom Biddle. Learn more about your ad choices. Send us a textOne of New England's most endearing mysteries, but should we classify it that way? Dorothy had a myriad of problems. She was divorced from a loser who couldn't pay support and was attracted to men with a fast lifestyle and little else to offer. In that spirit a relationship with John F. Bolton, a rough and tumble, stumble bum from Boston's West's End.Bolton had just beaten a life sentence for the murder of a two year old step daughter in 1966, he served under a decade in a plea bargain. He was an abusive two time prison loser and Bolton was confirmed to escape a prison run hospital on an almost nightly basis. Dorothy went missing after a night of drinking at the Penalty Box bar, near Boston Garden. The story gets hazier from there, Bolton actually admitted to arguing with Dorothy, the night she disappeared. Dorothy and her Ford vehicle were never seen again. The case went cold almost immediately. Please call the Boston Police Department at 617-343-4470 X-bcpbeantown Email-barry@bostonconfidential.net

What if rest isn’t a luxury—but essential to your calling? In this episode of the Unhurried Living Podcast, Alan Fadling talks with Travis West, author of The Sabbath Way, about how Sabbath can renew leaders from the inside out. Far from being just a “day off,” Sabbath is a way of living that restores joy, deepens trust in God, and sustains our calling in a productivity-driven culture. We’ll explore why Sabbath is a quiet but powerful form of leadership, how it reshapes our relationship with time, and why it’s key to resisting burnout. Whether you’re a pastor, ministry leader, or simply longing for a more unhurried pace with God, this conversation will inspire you to let grace set the pace. In this episode: Why Sabbath is more than a day of rest How Sabbath restores joy, gratitude, and delight The dangers of “false rest” and how to avoid them Moving from urgency to abundance in leadership Practical steps to start a Sabbath rhythm this week For more help in practicing the Sabbath, visit Travis West’s website for a free resource at https://www.travis-west.com/practices. Health insurance or health cost-sharing—which is the better fit for your family? With open enrollment upon us, it's the perfect moment to explore your choices. Joining me today is Lauren Gajdek to highlight the key differences between health insurance and health cost-sharing.Lauren Gajdek is the Senior Director of External Affairs at Christian Healthcare Ministries (CHM), an underwriter of Faith & Finance. The Landscape of Traditional Health InsuranceOpen enrollment season is right around the corner—running from November 1 through January 15, 2026. For most people, that means navigating the world of traditional health insurance. These plans typically require you to select doctors and specialists within a designated provider network, often necessitating referrals or pre-authorization before receiving care. While insurance companies provide coverage, their structure can come at a high cost. Premiums and deductibles are often steep, and because insurers operate for profit, patient care and affordability don't always align. For many families, this creates a significant financial burden. How Health Cost Sharing Is DifferentHealth cost-sharing ministries, such as CHM, offer a unique alternative. The end result is the same—your medical bills are taken care of—but the process looks very different. No provider networks: Members are free to choose their own doctors and hospitals.Nonprofit model: Unlike insurance companies, CHM is a ministry. Members send in a set monthly contribution, which is pooled together to reimburse medical costs.Community approach: Instead of being absorbed into a bureaucratic system, members know that their contributions directly help fellow believers in need.Since its founding, CHM has facilitated over $10 billion in shared medical bills. How Does Health Cost-Sharing Work? Here's how it works for a typical family:Choose your provider. Members can see any doctor or hospital as long as the treatment fits CHM's guidelines.Identify as self-pay. This allows members to receive significant discounts often, sometimes as high as 40%.Submit bills to CHM. The ministry coordinates with providers as needed. In the meantime, members may set up a temporary payment plan until reimbursement arrives. The process is straightforward, designed to give families peace of mind while also offering flexibility and savings. What to Keep in Mind During Open EnrollmentWhen weighing your options, consider more than just the monthly premium. Ask:How much am I actually paying out-of-pocket after deductibles, co-pays, and coinsurance? Will my coverage travel with me if I go out of state—or out of the country? With CHM, members don't face co-pays or coinsurance, and qualifying medical bills are shared 100% according to ministry guidelines. Additionally, portability makes it an appealing option for families who want flexibility, regardless of where life takes them.A Biblical Approach to HealthcareAt its core, CHM is more than a healthcare solution—it's a ministry. Members not only share medical expenses but also pray for one another and receive prayer support in return. Every monthly contribution is a gift that directly helps another member in need.CHM reflects biblical principles of bearing one another's burdens while providing a practical, affordable path to healthcare. To explore whether health cost sharing is right for your family this open enrollment season, visit CHMinistries.org/Faith.On Today's Program, Rob Answers Listener Questions:I'm refinancing my home and am unsure whether I should roll the closing costs into the new loan or pay them from my investments or retirement accounts. Rolling them into the loan would lower my monthly payment, but is that the wisest choice financially—and biblically?Could you explain where the funds actually come from with a reverse mortgage, who technically owns the home in this arrangement, and whether the FHA backs the loan?My wife and I recently took a required minimum distribution from her IRA and made a qualified charitable distribution to our church. They told us it wasn't tax-deductible and wouldn't issue a receipt. Commercial dating agencies that facilitate marriages across national borders comprise a $2.5 billion global industry. Ideas about the industry are rife with stereotypes-younger, more physically attractive brides from non-Western countries being paired with older Western men. These ideas are more myth than fact, Monica Liu finds in Seeking Western Men: Email-Order Brides Under China's Global Rise (Stanford UP, 2022). Her study of China's email-order bride industry offers stories of Chinese women who are primarily middle-aged, divorced, and proactively seeking spouses to fulfill their material and sexual needs. What they seek in their Western partners is tied to what they believe they've lost in the shifting global economy around them. Ranging from multimillionaire entrepreneurs or ex-wives and mistresses of wealthy Chinese businessmen, to contingent sector workers and struggling single mothers, these women, along with their translators and potential husbands from the US, Canada, and Australia, make up the actors in this multifaceted story. Set against the backdrop of China's global economic ascendance and a relative decline of the West, this book asks: How does this reshape Chinese women's perception of Western masculinity? Through the unique window of global internet dating, this book reveals the shifting relationships of race, class, gender, sex, and intimacy across borders. Learn more about your ad choices. Drones have been in the headlines a lot lately. On Friday, we reported that Munich saw the latest in a string of airport closures after drones were detected in European airspace. These drones are different from the ones that were in use even a decade ago, as the capabilities of even the cheapest drones have evolved on the battlefields of Ukraine and Russia. And the West is falling behind, something the Trump administration is seeking to address with a potential deal that would give the U.S. access to Ukraine's battle-hardened drone tech. Alistair MacDonald, who covers Ukraine and the defense industry for the Journal, discusses the big business of drones, how Ukraine became a leader in the industry and how the West could catch up. Across the world, belief in God continues to be widespread and, among philosophers, has long been considered one solution to the problems of the world's origin, fine-tuned nature, and purpose. However, in the West, very few people have considered alternative concepts of God credible. That, though, may be beginning to change. One such alternative – pantheism – tells us that the universe and God are one and the same thing. It challenges conventional ideas about divine agency and the coherence of traditional theism, and invites us to reconsider what we mean when we speak of ‘God'. To explore God's nature, in this special episode, I'll be joined by two guests: Tim Mawson and Asha Lancaster-Thomas. Dr Mawson is Edgar Jones Fellow and Tutor in Philosophy at St Peter's College, University of Oxford. He has published five books and over fifty papers in the philosophy of religion. Dr Lancaster-Thomas is Teacher of Philosophy at Atlanta Classical Academy, USA, and has published widely on the philosophy of religion – most recently exploring alternative concepts of God, including the one we'll be debating today. Tim Mawson will be arguing in favour of traditional theism – the view that God and the world are not identical. Asha Lancaster-Thomas will be defending pantheism – the view that they are. What are the implications of identifying God with the universe? Can such a view still provide the kind of moral and metaphysical grounding traditionally associated with belief in a transcendent creator? Or – by dragging God down from the heaven's – do we diminish the divine and its explanatory power? After escaping one ambush in their hotel room and a second aboard the Buzzard Black, the crew of the Little Snail is finally preparing themselves for their climactic showdown with the deadly hitman, Genuine Sincere. They'll need the right location, the right gear, and the right magical protection. And then, of course, they'll need a little luck. This week on Perpetua: Sizzling Rivalry, Crashing Waves! 04 Perpetua Guide [In Progress v.04] NPCs & Monsters [PNMS] Genuine Sincere [NMGNS] Traits: Cold-Blooded, Bought, Veteran. Eagle-eyed Stats: DEX 10, INS 6, MIG 8, WLP 6 Attacks: Ancient Passikan Rifle Shot, Suppressive FIRE, COLD Snap, LIGHTNING Strikes Twice, A Shot in the DARK Special Abilities: Countershot, Reinforcements, Take to the Sky (Crisis!) In-Game Description: Former colleague of Uncle Nicky. Veteran hitman in the service of.... As far as I'm concerned, this is the first real boss fight of the game, even if you're jumping between both West and East campaigns. The Kalsi fight has a potential “hard mode,” but you can stop it from even happening at all based on your choices. Genuine Sincere, on the other hand, will keep sniping at you until you finally fight him. (Though I am curious if the game ever forces a traditional fight with him, or if you can complete the whole campaign with him occasionally taking a potshot through your window. Anyone test this out yet?) All of that is to say: Come in prepared! First of all, keep any elemental weaknesses in mind (like Elena's weakness to bolt) because four out of the five attacks Genuine has are elemental in nature. Worse: He's the first enemy who can actively MAKE YOU WEAK to an element. He can also debuff you in a number of different ways, so bring enough IP to Tonic your way through the fight if you need to. On top of all that he's a Villain and a Champion class enemy, so even if you try to grind to beat him, he's going to end up with a lot more HP than any one of your party members. Yikes. Oh, and did I mention, he isn't even alone? He starts the fight with a Hoodlum Mechanic [NMHMC] and a Gangster Killer [NMGKL] on his side, plus a (de)Activated BuilderBot [NMABB] that can be used against you if the Mechanic can get control of it. DON'T LET THAT HAPPEN. Starter Tip: As far as I can tell, you have three places you can confront Genuine in the city: The clock tower where he snipes you from as you enter (and when you're in the hotel.) The beach at Rose Shore (which is definitely the hardest, because of some enemies that can join from the sea). And one of the industrial buildings in Highrail. That last one is the hardest to setup, but BY FAR the easiest to win at. ESPECIALLY if you can manage to stop his “Reinforcements” ability to continually give him more Mechanics and Killers on his side!
